Hej !
Hope this question was not already post, but I saw nothing, in case, sorry !
So, after flash the nightly for mako, I can't boot, I stay on the boot logo Google, I try to wait to see but change nothing :/
I asked on the google+ community and someone talk to me about themuppets that block the boot but I don't know what it is. I search but I found nothing else than a programming line ^^"
I add that to flash the build, I wipe system, data, cache, dalvik, flash the build, wipe dalvik & cache, flash SuperSU and Gapps ^^
any idea ? ^^

I know there's a lot of info on this subject, but im still confused about a few things related to simply updating to a new version of same rom.
some says i have to wipe all, clear cache and dalvik cache every time, others talk about dirty updating which i guess is without wipe, but do i still need to clear cache and dalvik, or just dalvik cache?, and do i have to flash gapps every time i just upgrade same rom?
like going from 2.50 > the latest 2.52, what i did was:
1. downloaded both pa_grouper-2.52-27OCT2012-190304.zip, and gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and put them in root of my nexus 7
2. went to goomanager and clicked "flash ROMs", where i selected my grouper-2.52-27OCT2012-190304.zip, clicked "Order and flash selected" and on next screen checkmarked "Wipe cache/dalvik cache partition"
3. clicked flash, and waited..
4. did same procedure (step 2 and 3) with the gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and now im not sure if that all i needed to do, or if there's something i don't have to do next time there a minor update.. or can i skip wipe cache?, or skip flashing gapps (unless there's a newer version of gapps)?
thanks for any answers

but i still wonder if it's needed to wipe cache/dalvik because it seems to remove some login info fx. in gmail, wallpaper and such, and if it's not needed, then i might as well not do that

If you dont wipe them, it can cause troubles.
Also, it shouldnt affect anything, doesnt for me
Edit: Gapps must be flashed everytime for PA. Forgot to mention that

Found this thread by searching.
I have a question. When you upgrade the ROM, and do all the steps listed above, does this also save the installed apps on the device?

Yes. Flashing the rom, then gapps, wiping cache and dalvik doesnt wipe any apps or apps data

MOD: can you move this to correct place?
This is probably the wrong forum for your question but you did not perform a full wipe before installing. You should try wiping data, cache, dalvik, factory data reset, and format /system and then install again. Also, please state what phone you are using.
Do you we need to wipe vendor before installing custom rom?
I always wipe system, dalvik, cache and data.
You should not wipe data folder. You will lose your app data. Wipe system, cache, dalvik and vendor.
So yes, you need to wipe vendor before instaling.
Also, do you have to start a new thread for this question? It will just spam people.

Wiping vender might give into bootloops some times. And wiping data is always a good practice when ur switching ROMs.
So I'd say , take back up , wipe syst, caches , dalvik , data !
I know the topic is old, but it might help somebody in the future.
I have a Xiaomi Mi6, and in Miui 10, I got microphone bug, sometimes microphone worked, sometimes not, and also hang up sometimes out of nowhere.
I was pointed out that the reason may have been to just have given a wype system, dalvik, and date chache, but have not given a wype vendor.
So in doubt, because of bug, good give a wipe vendor.
i always suggest to wipe vendor, I've never faced any problem
What is reason ppl wipe vendor anyways?
Last time when I wiped vendor, it only start in download mode and forgot how to get out. It wasn't fun. And I never wipe vendor before flashing ROM, so I would say no don't wipe vendor.
I was using PE rom and I flashed a kernel and wiped cache and dalvik, after rebooting i couldn't turn on my mobile data for some reason. I went back to orange fox recovery and wiped system, cache, data, dalvik, vendor. Then i tried rebooting but it says no os installed. I used my other phone to download the latest PE rom and saved it on my sd card so i can flash it on my phone. I wiped cache, data, system, dalvik and vendor again before flashing the PE rom. After i flashed the rom im stuck on the boot image of PE i dont know why. Anyone knows how to fix this?
Is bc i wiped my phone's firmware too and thats the reason why my phone wont boot completely?
My device is redmi note 7. Thank u in advance

OMG!
1. You should never wipe system or vendor.
2. You should never wipe the firmware. Why on earth would you want to do that?
3. Format the data partition; reboot the recovery; flash a working firmware image (if you did indeed wipe the firmware); flash PE; hope for the best

Hi,
I have been using Derpfest on my Redmi Note 6 Pro for a long time. To flash the latest version, I wiped cache, dalvik cache and data (as per their instructions) and then flashed the full zip. For some reason, the phone does not boot anymore, it goes into Mi logo, reboots, and then boots into recovery.
I have tried clearing data, dalvik, cache, system and internal storage and then flashing two different custom ROMs (Derpfest and HavocOS) but it still does not work.
Can someone please help me recover my phone?
Thanks

This worked, thank you so much. It's so bad I wasted whole day on this .-.
Flash the last miui rom. Recovery Edition. https://c.mi.com/thread-2959490-1-0.html?t=1585141449432&utm_source=share
Boot up and than install the rom you want.

The latest Derpfest uses a new kind of encryption (FBE). This requires formatting data if you were on an earlier version (or any other ROM) with FDE. This really should have been stated clearly in the Derpfest instructions and changelog (perhaps it was - I don't know). If you were using OrangeFox Recovery, you might have seen something (in red) about Android Rescue Party, advising clean-flashing the ROM.
