Hey all, I'm having a bit of trouble rooting my Neuxs 4 with the latest version of Kit Kat installed. I was previously able to get it working on 4.2.2 and 4.3, however for some reason I keep getting the same error message regardless of Supersu version. Please see video for how I went about attempting to root and the results: I'm unable to post a link, so navigate to youtube and use watch?v=TSuTYOu7YwI after the "/". It's a little hard to tell on the video, but I'm installing the latest version of Supersu, v1.75.
Any suggestions? It's pretty strange, can't seem to figure it out :crying: Thanks in advance!
Try latest twrp.
That worked for me

Thanks a ton, worked perfectly! I had been using CWM but switched to the newest TWRP at your suggestion.

hey guys, thanks for all the info you post however I have an issue with the newest Franco kernel. I installed the latest release and after reboot my root access is gone. I tried reinstalling Super SU, but even when doing it through TWRP it doesn’t install. The kernel is R75 the latest available through the Franco App. This is my first time using a kernel, is this normal? What do I need to do to get rooted again?
Thanks for everyone's contributions on the forum, you have helped me tremendously in the past just from reading posts and thanks for any help with this issue.

The only thing lately I notice lately is flashing some 4.3 roms you loose root. Easy to get back just use the below tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
I also had the same problem when i flashed franco kernel #75 over PA #3.91 and it broke the root.
I also searched for superuser patch but could not find any updates.

So is there currently no fix for this then? I think I'd rather go with Stock Kernel than lose all of my root exclusive apps.
BTW I don't think I mentioned it before, I am using a Nexus 7 (orig).
Edit:
I just found this
Just auto-flash the r75-nightly with FKU on my stock-4.3 nexus 7 16GB.
After re-boot, the supersu poped up a notification that "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!".
This issue is solved after I re-flash the current latest UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip with CWM.

If i read correctly, something in the latest CM 10.2 ramdisk released recently broke root. The next update to all of the kernels will see it fixed.

if you use the SuperSU link I provided you can re-root with the latest franco kernel running.
SuperSu worked!!!

No problem, glad to contribute to the forum!
lose root after installing FKR75 with FK updater
I tried flashing the latest super su 1.65 zip but TWRP said it couldn't open the zip file. I had to reflash the stock ROM to get back root.
I have followed this thread but found no answer.

Is your tablet encrypted? The same happened to me on my encrypted N4 and the only option was to go back to stock kernel.
Hello all, last night 5.1 factory image was released. Right now am at 5.0.1, stock and rooted with few mods.
I didn't want to sideload OTA, because its pain in the ass when you're rooted and I don't like OTA.
I'm gonna do fresh install, I find it better and easier.
So my questions are:
How do I root it on 5.1, the same way as I rooted on 5.0.1?
I used Nexus Root Toolkit, but I know how to do a lot of stuff using the adb commands so that's not a problem for me.
I don't want to use NRT this time.
Can I obtain root this way:
I flash 5.1, then TWRP then just flash flashable SuperSU zip?
Will I be able to flash TWRP 2.8.6.0 onto 5.1, and same goes for SuperSU,
can I flash TWRP/SuperSU regarding which android version I have?
The main reason for using TWRP now, is so when Xposed becomes beta/stable I can flash it.
Thanks
Yes to all your questions. You have the process down..

Thank you for fast reply and help
Hello, today i received the 5.1 ota for my nexus 4 (android 5.0.1 rooted/stock kernel/twrp recovery)
But update.zip cannot be flashed and i get an error telling me: Package expects build fingerprint of google occam mako 5.0.1 or 5.1 user/release-keys. This device has occam/mako 4.3.
I dont want to flash 5.1 manually (i know how to do it).
Thanks in advance

This is because you are using a custom recovery. OTA update will never work if you are using a custom recovery. Meaning you have to be completely stock to receive the ota update.
I downloaded and flashed stock recovery. I ll try again.
It still gives me an error.

You have to be 100% stock system, kernel and recovery. Are you?

Check out this, for me did the trick: aaronhastings.me/updating-to-android-5-1-0-on-rooted-nexus-5
I hope it will help you, too.
Regards.
Thank you guys for your advices. Yes i was completely stock and rooted. I flashed 5.1 using pc because i couldn't find what was going on.
I updated today from COS 12.1 -YOGPAS1N0 using TWRP to cm-13.0-ZNH0EAS2JK-bacon-signed-fastboot-2d1a3b8dca.zip.
Now I keep on getting error message stating that I do not have SIM and the phone is acting sluggish.
What do I need to do to fix this please?
I am rooted and running TWRP 3.0.2
Thanks in advance.
I'm guessing it's because of the version of TWRP you used. Try going back to 2.6, or the modified version of 2.7 floating around. Other versions don't flash the modem correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I did a deep clean and installed it again using TWRP 2.8 but for some reason I lost my root. It kept TWRP though. Any idea to get back the root?

Why don't you try flashing a rooted rom to get root? I know there are other ways to attain root, but this would be the easiest, imo, given you have root.

Just flash latest supersu and you're done. Root will always be lost by doing a clean flash

Thank you, I got it fixed by flashing superSU 2.65.
The problem I had was I was flashing the Beta 2.74. By flashing the 2.65 it rooted my phone back.
I did root by following instructions from this thread.
I just noticed that Netflix is no longer working.
I was wondering if anyone has successfully installed Magisk on the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900V) or any other suggestions to get apps like Netflix to work properly.
first off what rom are you on? and or android version. 2nd are you using the latest version of Netflix? third what is the exact issue you are having with Netflix? (errors, etc..)

Netflix blocks rooted devices now. Apparently you have to run something to hide the fact that you are rooted.
I have heard you can do this with Magisk
I am really thinking about unrooting now but i don't know how.
also, i accidentally posted this under general and should have posted it under Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

magisk has an uninstaller zip you flash via twrp however im not 100% sure if it works correctly due to odexed rom as xposed has this issue as far as installing or uninstalling.
you could try this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-netflix-enabler-enable-netflix-t3708126 might help.

assuming you have not tried to install magisk:
if you have the bootloader unlocked and are on lollipop or below bootloader (in case it relocks doubt that it will) and not just safe strapped and have TWRP or a custom recovery installed i'd say make a full backup via recovery and then attempt to install magisk the usual way and if you hit a snag or bootloop restore the backup and reach out to the official magisk thread for getting it installed..magisk thread: "Magisk" best i can suggest as it seems these threads are like a ghost town a lot of the time. lol
I am rooted have been for years, Netflix works fine.
