I used to be able to install non-market apps that I had downloaded on the internet. I have checked in allow unknown sources app to be installed. The only major thing I've done since I was ABLE TO INSTALL NON-MARKET APPS IS: I INSTALLED Liquid Smooth Rom (Sorry caps got locked.) and mess around with a lot of settings; but I can find anything I did wrong. Yes I checked and Unchecked and then check again allow installations of unknown sources. Please help. Not a Nobie. thanks in advance.

Sweet Thank you I figure out how to disable Halo and Installed Free Riptide GP and Playing sweet. Why does it do that? Is it because is still on Beta phase and it has a bug or what?

It's a security feature built into android that prevents overlays from installing apps.
Thank You. Could you please explain It's a security feature built into android that prevents overlays from installing apps. I'm an Eager Beaver to learn.
overlays have more access to your systen than typical apps. its a security feature so that a malicious overlay doesnt install other malicious apps into your device without you knowing about it.
Hi, I just got a nexus4 and would like to keep it stock (have a sgs2 that I use for trying roms out on) but I would like to something that gives me a bit more control over how apps use my info. On my sgs2 I love openpdroid and I almost considered LBE (don't like that it doesn't allow spoofing) but seems that its been having alot of issues so that doesn't seem like a great idea. I could have sworn that I had seen one or two threads before where some devs were working on some things similar to pdroid that were also a bit simpler to install and seemed like they might install on stock roms but can't find these threads. Does anyone have any suggestions for other apps that would give a bit more control over how user info is managed? Thx in advance!

I've been meaning to check out XPosed, I keep seeing it everywhere.
I guess I have one main question related to Xposed then, for the Nexus 4, as I am trying to keep it as-stock-as-possible would the XPosed framework interfere or break the "stockness" (forgive me with the terminology) of the stock rom? That is, will it continue to update when google pushes out new updates like 4.4.3, 4.4.4, and so on? Regardless I am going to look into it for my sgs2 as I am more tolerant of tinkering but the Nexus4 is not for me and they (sig other) just wants a no-fuss phone and I want them to have a no-fuss phone with a reasonable level of privacy (always a balance )

Absolutely not, your "stockiness" will not break, as one of the main features of the xposed framework is allowing mods without flashing files and/or modifying system files. You will still receive OTAs, but to install them you'll have to uninstall The framework. (It's just a button press in the xposed app and 2 seconds of waiting) you can reinstall xposed after the OTA.

when google pushes a new update(as so called OTA or Over The Air)your phone will display the update info. however when installing it will fail since one of the files in the system is modified(the app_process in /system/bin). then you go to the Xposed app. and unninstall de framework. or use any root explorer(since u will need to have root to install xposed) and delete app_process in /system/bin and rename the app_process.bak to just app_process(in same dir).
thats what he meant.
Edit:
you will loose all configurations, sdcard contents, downloaded apps, etc.... . if u still didnt unlock your bootloader(witch looks like no),because u will need to root your phone.

You will not have any problem if youre already rooted. When an OTA comes, just Open the Xposed app and press the button to uninstall the framework. Your OTA Will work just fine.
After the OTA, just click the insatll button to re install Xposed. Really simple, really. And since youre gonna install Xposed, I suggest you try out GravityBox too, its ****ing awesome.

I think I have you a "thank" click but wanted to come back to the post and thank you again, Xposed is impressive but XPrivacy is overwhelming, in an awesome way, and I thought PDroid covered alot. I've got some reading/re-reading to do but just wanted to say thanks cause i don't think I would have come across it otherwise. much appreciated! (and yeah, gravbox pretty damn nice too)
Please note that this write up is based on the assumption that you have a rooted after updating firmware to 7.1.1 and also unlocked bootloader
On several ocassions I was tempted to take firmware upgrade to Anroid 7.1.1 but thinking of missing xposed, I was delaying it. Finally I decided to take the firmware update mainly because of several goodness packed in Android 7.1.1. Finally I updated my device with Android 7.1.1 and took following alternatives to enjoy the benefits that I was enjoying with xposed.
1. I hate softkeys and also wanting to always keep status bar immersive. Xposed immersive module was doing the job. I achieved the same wihtout xposed as below,
Added a line in build.prop qemu.hw.mainkeys=1, and restart phone hides navbar permenantly. Installed Tile Root to hide status bar and the good thing about this this app is that it doesn't loose notification pull down option. Once installed it will be seen in Quick settings as it doesn't have launcher. Using Quick settings edit, you can being the immersive button and use it to go immersive. We need Pie Control to manage the absence of navbar.[/URL]
2. YouTube background playback was possible with the help of xposed module. I managed the same screen off playback as below,
Installed OG YouTube which is a moded version of official YouTube. This has the ability to play YouTube in the background. You can search yourself to find this modded app
3. Magisk work for 7.1.1 hence if anyone wants to use Android Pay it is still possible
If anyone wants to find alternative for the xposed module that were in use until MM, please post here. We can collectively find a best possible options.

YouTube ads can be filtered using xposed module YouTube Adaway. I am Adguard to do this job and selected HTTPS filtering instead of VPN option. It works better now. I can enjoy YouTube videos without ads which use to appear every 15min.
I miss some module that allowed to swipe up and down in the official youtube app for changing volume

Well, I'm officially getting old I guess...
Was hoping to see if root cloak works and I see that hasn't been supported for a while. So, I went ahead and uninstalled using the uninstaller.zip arm64 for sdk 24, most recent version.
Anyone wondering;
Uninstalling, for me, went just as easy as installing.
Sounds like everything, for 7.0+ is still in beta/testing by rovo so do all this at your own risk.

I don't see the point in uninstalling because root clock doesn't work though, eitherway you can't use Knox or SafetyNet so might as well have Xposed.
Also there is another module called No Device Check which lets you use simpler apps like Snapchat, Mario Run, Pokemon GO etc... no Android Pay though.

If you wanted to. Just a suggestion, because a lot of people will ask what works and what doesn't unless there is a list already. Thanks for the information. !

Doesn't look like viper works for oreo either? So what yall do on oreo after rooting?
Tasker, adaway, root Explorer and deleting unnecessary apps?
There are a lot of needs...
And viper4android. But unfortunately I didn't install it (I'm used to use the Magisk module)
Anybody is running viper?
What are folks using for advanced power menu on oreo?
I was rooted on 7.1.1 for Substratum. I am on 8.0 and unrooted since Substratum works without root on Oreo.
Oreo, rooted.
•Magisk + testing Magisk modules that might work with Oreo
•RootExplorer
•Android pay
•Titainium Backup
•Light Flow + Light Flow legacy
•Substratum (legacy)
•Kernel Auditor
•Waiting on a working TWRP doesn't absolutely need root, but an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and root seems to go together.
And whatever else fun I find to mess around with.
Root is a must for me. I like the full control of the device I own. And again, it's fun!

Yeah... I was going to say. Why root at this point? The only thing I can think of is doing a Titanium Backup so I can backup the apps WITH the data. I don't know of any app that can backup the apps with data of an unrooted phone, do you? Other than that... I dunno. What you think?

I don't want a phone that the vendor or carrier control.
I own it and I scold be able to do what I want.
The only thing on a phone that should ever be locked it the radio partition so they can control how the device accesses the network.
Other than that, leave my phone alone.
Greenify's best battery-saving features require both root and Xposed.
I also really like the GMS Doze Magisk module for battery savings.
And I never want to do without the ability to use EX Kernel Manager or Kernel Adiutor to squeeze some more battery and performance out of my device via scheduler and governor options. Some of the options for this phone (hexacore mode, adaptive low-memory killer) are pretty intriguing and can't be edited otherwise.

Your philosophy is flawed...
Xposed just being installed is an enormous battery drain in it's current incarnation...
You're better off without Xposed if you're looking for battery
