Hi,
Just bought my note 3 as an upgrade to my note 2.
Decided that rooting would be a good option for both at this time as it meant I could use titanium backup pro to transfer all my data and apps over using my 64gb memory card.
Both phones rooted fine via ODIN.
Backup up fine and apparently restored fine but now when I go into settings and then notification panel (either via the settings menu or the shortcut in the home pull down) it immediately says
'Unfortunately, settings has stopped'
What I have noticed is that the notification drop down menus are now in the same order/layout as my note 2.
What I don't know is how to clear whatever cache or program is stopping me from opening to rearrange it now.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
I have the same problem with my rooted Note 3. I have seen other threads that got the same message but in other areas of settings, and they suggested to Factory Reset the phone. I don't want to do that. I'm hoping someone has a different solution.
hey,
my solution:
-) download the original rom
-) flash with odin
-) you will got the same problem again: unfortunately settings has stopped (its okay)
-) go in samsung ORIGINAL "recovery-mode" IMPORTANT
-) do all wipes
-)enjoy
after that you are on original samusng rom (if u use4.3 rom you will get knox! it is better to use 4.2.1 (if u can))
now you can start all from new, root, cwm, rom...
i got a note 2..
EASY
Sure 4.2.1 in a note 3 - seems legit

As legit as mine running Froyo!
Regards to OP - Unroot your phone via SuperSU, reflash Stock ROM. That will fix your settings has stopped issue. -- As for using N2 stuff on an N3 from a backup, You may have to read up a bit more, it's not as simple as one might think I'm afraid.
Mine runs iOS 7 with iH8Sn0w Jailbreak *lol*

Using titanium can give these errors. I stopped using it a while back. Use Google to back up your apps and Samsung to backup calls sms etc.
Flash your phone with all the wipes and sign in to your Google account and it will restore your apps and then sign in to your Samsung account and restore and should have all stuff back and a fully functional phone

I did this and it did not fix the issue with settings has stopped. Guess I'll have to do a wipe.

No problem. I'll do it again and wipe cache and see what happens. It's late here, so I'll do it tomorrow.
OK, let us know how you do :good:
Everything is good now. No "Unfortunately setting has stopped" messages.
This is what I did:
- Unrooted via SuperSU
- Reflashed Stock ROM via Odin (ROM downloaded from SamMobile)
- Booted into Recovery Mode and did wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset
- Rooted
- Reinstalled all apps via AppBrain
- Spent 2 days reconfiguring my apps.
I didn't do any restores with Titanium Backup. That may have been the cause of the original problem.
Thanks everybody for your help
Glad you got sorted, reconfiguration of apps is a nightmare! - just done it myself with that new kitkat launcher on the play store. Took forever.

I got your solution for you! I have the same problem on my non rooted Verizon Galaxy Note Pro. As an attempt to work around it, I installed "Galaxy S4 Style Settings", and sure enough, I got to my settings. What surprised me though, is that after running that app once, the regular settings UI works properly.
I'm holding on to the app incase the error comes back. I haven't had a chance to dig up why this fixed it.

"Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" won't stop popping up. So frustrating.
The phone is brand new, I just got it in yesterday and had it only for a day.
I was using swype, and just uninstalled it, and when I rebooted the phone, that error keeps popping up and won't go away, making it unable for me to use the phone.

I guess that's my last resort. Damn
Edit: How would I even factory reset it? I literally can't use the phone. It's bricked. And in the recovery mode menu there is no option to factory reset. (tried pressing power and volume up)
If your phone is still locked, save the data (if needed) via adb and unlock it. But there could be easier way.

go to gmail account settings and sync everything. Google play will have your apps backup but not app data. Save all music, pics and files that you dont want to lose to your computer. Then just go to backup and reset in your settings menu and select Factory Data reset.
if that doesnt solve your problem you might have to use fastboot to reinstall the Jellybean.

I've had something similar to this on my G2x at one point; Android keeps popping up with errors and you can't do a single thing but reboot...which ends up erroring the same way when you're back in in an endless loop.
OP, you'll have to wipe and reinstall. If you've rooted it and enabled USB debugging then you're golden. If not, you'll have to go through several hoops to flash a factory image.
This link should help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016395

I am having this situation right now for my Nexus 4 (running stock 4.2.2 and installed Quick Settings mod from kevdliu, use the ROM for a long time and one day want to wipe all, after wiping, and reboot system I got this) and I think I figured out the solution: Wait until the battery is exhausted and automatically turned off, then put it into the charger for some time. Then pull it out of the charger, press volume up + down + power to get into fastboot. From here, we can wipe all and flash a new rom, or restore to stock rom, or do anything fastboot can do.

you haven't used stock 4.2.2 have you? Its quick settings is so frustrating, it always takes me to Settings to turn on or off Wifi. I want a quick Settings that takes only one click to turn on or off Wifi, so I have to install that mod. Btw, I'm still waiting for the battery to die

hey i know this thread was already answered but i found that this messaged popped up after changing some settings for the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. i didnt want it on my screen because i kept clicking either the back button or the home button which was very frustrating. so i tried to turn it off..that didnt work so instead i set all of the buttons to empty and the visibility to 0% and only after tracing back the steps i took (having to click the ok button for the stupid message about 80 times) i finally managed to find out that the navigation bar was the problem. hope you guys are able to fix your problem as simply as i did without doing anything drastic.

I recently had this issue and determined also that it must be something with my status/notification bar as it seemed to resize the screen to show the bar and then immediately resized it again as it displayed the System UI message. I use both Wanam and XBlast and disabled those as well as all Xposed modules. I also disabled Nova Launcher as default and rebooted. Re-enabled all and rebooted again and problem was resolved. Hopefully this will help others as well.

Hi I have huawei ascend y511 and after disabling google keyboard i turned off phone and put it back on. This happened. Help me please, How do I get it back to normal? If I factory reset, will it work? Or should I let the battery drain out and do something. I can't do anything on my phone now because I can't even press anything because of the really frequent pop out of "system ui has stopped" . Help please.
Hello Guys,
At first i just flashed a N900 Pre-Root Deodex file using Odin, but after reboot a window popped out displaying," Unfortunately, Direct pen input has stopped." And it happened all the time as it keeps freezing my note 3 with all these windows & notice over & over again.
I really don't know how did i go wrong. So I tried to do factory reset, wipe cache & dalvik cache using CWM Recovery 6.0.3.8 but to no avail. The problems worsened as now multiple windows starts to freeze the screen with different notice such as now:
1. Unfortunately, Direct pen input has stopped
2. Unfortunately, Samsung keyboard has stopped
3. Unfortunately, Internet has stopped
4. Process system isn't responding
Do you want to close it
I checked into my download mode, it displayed CURRENT BINARY CUSTOM and SYSTEM STATUS CUSTOM ???
Please kindly advise, thanks in advance

Hello, Can you elaborate further what exactly did you do? I got the same problem now on my Note 3
Thanks in advance!
Check logcat for crashes!
I disabled / uninstalled as many system apps that appeared in my drawer as I could. One too many it seems and Messaging would crash each time I got a text.
Re-installed the app from backup and just hid it in my app draw (ADW Launcher EX)
The remedy is simply flash your original firmware using odin, then for rooting process i just flashed using CF-Auto Root File with same method

At my point of trouble that time, it was totally chaotic as the phone kept freezing with multiple error windows, and i could neither use the keyboard nor using the phone normally at all. It was quite relieving to know that i could still reboot into download mode that time, otherwise i would be stressful in vain till now.

I ran into this issue as well, when I started carelessly turning off all the services on my GN3 to free up memory. I narrowed down the issue to the process/service called "MyScript ResourceManager." If this is disabled/removed, you will get the Direct Pen input error. Make sure you don't disable/remove this process!!

Not sure what you mean by this. I'm having the same issue now. I tried to root using this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg82AWA_lmI having no luck and failing on the first part. After that the phone wanted to be fixed via kies firmware; tried that with no success. I then tried these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525279 to recover. While in Odin, I was given a success message ONLY with the PIT. Everything else during, before and after fails. This results in me having to re-PIT every time.
So now the phone, even after a factory reset, is still showing the message

Your solution is the usual error/solution for most. I just found out that if you are using xposed - xprivacy module to limit permissions that when I recently installed samsung's "Watchon" TV and its helper app Media that I recieved a popup from xposed XPrivacy to set my policy on something of a long winded name like "1000 ANT HAL Service, Android System, Application installer, Assistant menu, BluetoothTest, Camera Test, Color adjustment, DgitalPenSdK, Direct pen input, EasyOneHand, Enterprise Sim Pin Service...." and it goes on and on. Apparently it's one of those deep shared system identifiers that the new apps added themselves to so when I took my usually cautious approach to limit some of the permissions I didn't have any errors immediately but upon reboot it all began. I naturally did a search and found your solution is the most common but seeing as it wasn't a solution for myself I had to dig deeper. Anyhow, if anybody else is in my position with that particular error and it relates to xprivacy just know that you can begin releasing permissions rather than unrestricted for that mass identifier, or just use "clear" so that it is totally unchecked and the FC of Direct Pen Input will go away immediately.
Not working

Backup all important data and do a factory reset. This will restore some important hidden system files that could be corrupt. It should fix all your problems. I had a similar issue for awhile. It may also be beneficial to look into reflashing MJ7/MJE tar depending on what version if factory reset doesn't fix it.

Do a factory reset before flashing, you can find the option in Settings > Security. It's different from reflashing a tar.

Well when I did that, I now get the Unfortunately, Samsung Hub has stopped working. It literally pops up again once I hit OK. It is making my phone completely unusable. I believe I may need to re-flash my binaries but I am not 100% sure. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!! :crying:

I believe I may need to re-flash my binaries but I am not 100% sure. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!! :crying:

I have the same problem and it is extremely frustrating because the popup never goes away, it keeps popping back up making the phone useless. I managed to get it to quit by rebooting several times but eventually it comes back. I have rooted the phone with Towelroot but I don't think that is the problem. I have not changed any of the factory apps but I did install and then uninstall a couple of apps that I didn't want. I've read about this problem on other forums so I know others are also experiencing this problem. Hopefully someone with come up with a solution soon.

Thanks JD,
I've thought about ODIN but not sure what to do with it.
A little tutoring would help.

You'll want to flash the nb1 tar file in Odin. Some of this will help

I think I found an easier way using Titanium Backup. I found Samsung Hub in the list, clicked on it and then hit the highlighted Restore button. It is probably too early to tell if that fixed the problem. If it comes back I will post here.

Since I started having the Samsung Hub problem, my screen does not rotate. I've looked at everything I can think of to change that back to auto rotate. No luck and I'm assuming it is related to the Samsung Hub problem. Restoring Samsung Hub with Titanium Backup did not fix the problem. So either the auto rotate problem is not related or restore did not work. Anybody know how to get my phone to Auto-Rotate again?

Ok the problem is back.
I tried to uninstall SoftCard and the instant it started uninstalling that app, the "Unfortunately Samsung..etc." came back with continuous loops. I rebooted and now Softcard in downloading from play store??? And the Samsung loops are continuing. I am going to take the battery out and see if that will stop the looping. That worked in the past. This is getting frustrating
I know im kind of late but I figured it out. I updated my Samsung Hub app and it fixed that issue. Unfortantly my phone stopped reconizing my gmail aka i could not use my play store. It kept saying that I needed to check with AT&T to add data to my account, although I know for a fact I have data( I am on the unlomited data plan). Even connected to wi-fi I recived this error. To fix that issue I re-flashed my stock binaries. VHOLA!! All of my headachs were gone.

Just for future reference and my 2¢, I personally think restoring apps is bad practice. For the exact reason you had to reflash. Especially ones that you can just download again, then change a few settings.
Thanks for the info. I've restored the Samsung Hub app a couple of times now and I don't seem to be having anymore problems. If it happens again I will update the app from Play Store
Hey my s5 s health app stopped counting my steps, last recorts of it logs are from 30.11.2014.
I did try to get ps4 remote play to work and that involved removing superSU, could that be the reason why it stopped or what.
I tried to restore factory settings from settings, but only thing that it did was removing all my apps BUT it didn't even wipe my root?
I'm on latest stock rom with root and my knox **** is still on 0x0 state, that's why I haven't just install twrp or cwm recovery and restore my nandroid backup already.
How I can get that counter to work again? Weirdest thing is that s health seems to work, I can get my pulse and all other things too BUT not my steps.
All things that I managed to fish out of google was cases when that app was stopped completely, not like mine where everything seems to work but it doesn't count my steps at all.
Lockscreen and s health app both shows just 0 steps.

Sadly no, i had to reflash that stock rom again and do a full wipe of phone memory.
At least when i re rooted i could use titanium backup so it wasn't that painful experience, and I didn't need to format my internal or external sd-cards.
so after all that hassle only data loss that I had where those steps that it didn't counted, as for what caused this? Your guess is as good as mine.
Hey,
Thanks for responding. I actually resolved this. I ended up clearing all the data for both s health and s apps, updating both, and signing up with samsung for an account and poof, it started working.

Ok your solution seems to be better, my solution is like using nukes for mosquitos as it is bit aggressive for one app.
I have to remember your solution if this ever happens again.
