My N7 with KitKat doesn't have the "Tap & pay" option under settings but my N4 does. Is that normal?
I guess is not normal to use a 9"ish device as a wallet

I agree. Just want to make sure my KitKat update is completed successfully.

I received the OTA earlier this afternoon. N7 2013 WiFi. I do have the tap to pay option under settings.
Don't have it on my unrooted n7 2012

Maybe you must setup a creditcard first?

I do have credit cards setup in my Google Wallet. I think N7 2012 doesn't have the option but 2013 does. Guess that's normal.

This is for 2012 Nexus 7 WiFi model - updated to KRT16S stock rom & kernel, rooted.
Go to Settings - Wireless & networks: check to make sure NFC is checked & Android Beam is on.
(Google) Wallet should be one of the installed Apps (if not, download from Play Store) - set it up correctly including PIN.
It will confirmed successful setup, ready for Tap & Play. Email will follow shortly.
Next, open "Wallet" and your linked CC should be shown, below it "Change tap and pay settings" On the upper corner, press the 3 dots - and read the info about "How to use T&P"
Enjoy - Wallet, Tap & Pay are for US only per my understanding at this time, not available in other countries.

So I received my Nexus 10 Today and have been playing with it for about an hour and a much as I love it, I have a weird issue.
When I try to send something, a picture or contact for example, by NFC, it opens the play store and fails to receive!
Any ideas?

The phone I am sending from is an S3.
The Nexus will receive webpages and YouTube links but when I send a picture, it opens up the play app store.
Confused!!

From settings turn off the S3 / Samsungs own version of photo sharing and turn on the standard android version. Sorry I can't remember exact names but I know the Samsung/Android versions of NFC Direct are different.

S-beam I think
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Yep, S-Beam uses wifi direct, while standard NFC is Bluetooth.
I have tried that.
Unfortunately the S3 gives me the message "S Beam is off. Turn on S Beam and try again". The Nexus still opens up the play store!
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
I have just found a link on another site that says that because the S3 uses Wi-Fi direct and standard Android uses Bluetooth, it can cause a major headache! Does anyone know any way to permanently disable the S3 S Beam?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
On my S3 I have the option to disable S Bean. Enable NFC and enable Android Beam. I would imagine this would enable it to work. Will have my Nexus 10 today but for now I'm just advising without any experience.

It would never come to Canada. Rbc, CIBC and Rogers have started their own NFC payment service
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
Well, I'm with Desjardins. I guess it will never show either.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I was also excited for the Google wallet but the fact that it's not gonna come to Canada (at least it seems) really makes me sad. Most annoying part about this is I'm with td and I'm not with Rogers...

By the end of 2014 we should see a large number of NFC payment services in Canada. I was using sure tapp app on my galaxy nexus which allowed me to make NFC purchases at McDonalds and whole green foods. I think they stopped that service ttoo, as they could not get Tim Horton's and other gift cards
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
With the new Nexus 5 and Android factory image coming with "tap to pay" in the menu settings, surely NFC/Google Wallet in Canada must be getting closer?
Looks like it will be on the basis of individual financial institutions and by carrier. At least at the start.

Hi, why is't the Nexus 7 2013 wifi isn't supported for Google Wallet Tap & Pay? is there any work around? I'm running stock 4.4 . Thanks

Also I just noticed the version of Google keyboard on Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7 is different.... Also there is no option for Nexus 7 "Vibrate on Keypress" meanwhile Nexus 5 does have. I can't even uninstall it.

aw....i just hate the sound it makes....lol. Any suggestions? Hoping we can get a work around for Tap & Pay feature... I was really looking forward to it..since the 4.4 update. I don't understand why Google can't make it open to any handset that has NFC capabilities? right? sigh... hehehe
Turn on NFC first, then the menu will show up.

Is the issue that the Tap & Pay menu doesn't appear in Settings or does the functionality not work? I have never used it but I just turned on NFC to check and once I do, tap&pay appears in settings. Wi-fi N7 here.

Tap & pay will only show up after NFC is enabled (Kit Kat only, NOT Jelly Bean for you n00bs out there).
However, even after I reverted to stock unrooted jelly bean, oem locked, sideloaded the update, & reinstalled Wallet....Wallet STILL does not show up in the Tap & Pay app list. So I don't know what else to do.

The secure NFC chip isn't needed for tap and pay starting with KitKat. That's why they added it at the OS level.
Tap and Pay is indeed present on the 2013 Nexus 7. I just enabled NFC to confirm that the menu shows up in Settings and it does.
Tap and Pay is present that's correct but Wallet isn't there yet. More talk about it here

Tap & Pay now works for Google Wallet for N7 Kit Kat.....IF you get the Nexus 5 version of Wallet!
Which you can find on Phandroid here
Instructions for n00bs: To install, download the .apk file at the webpage link above. MAKE SURE UNKNOWN SOURCES IS CHECKED IN YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS prior to download.
Then run the app and follow the directions in the app to setup Tap & Pay.
Make sure NFC is enabled and you have an internet connection when attempting payment (have the Wallet app showing when you are ready for payment.)
I just bought McDonald's with it....using their WiFi!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
thanks and yes, after installing that apk and setting it up, Wallet does now appear in tap & pay. I'll try it out. Thanks
I seem to remember a blog post and thread here how NFC could not work with Wallet on the new N7. I disagreed because the hardware is there and the security can be emulated in software. This workaround proves it. I'm going to McDonald's tonight .
Thanks

How can you make a payment without an Internet connection? :what: If that was the case, you make a payment offline, factory reset your tablet before it connects again. In theory, you won't get charged then, right?

No. Your device communicates your payment data via NFC. The element receiving that data actually executes the charge. Your device doesn't need to connect to the internet anymore than your credit cards need to connect to the internet.

...thought the app told me to have an internet connection. How else does the app retrieve your credit card info?
Granted, it COULD be stored directly in the app...but then that poses a security risk, I would think

Almost as risky as storing your credit card info on a plastic card in your billfold. Someone nips that and they have all they need to charge your account!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Guys you CAN pay without an internet connection. The Nexus 7 2013 works the same as the Nexus 5, using HCE instead of a secure element. I tried my N5 in airplane mode (with NFC switched back on) a couple days ago at CVS and it worked fine. As soon as I turned off airplane mode the transaction details downloaded.
Now while the transaction will work without internet Wallet now requires an internet connection to PIN unlock! So if there is no service in the store unlock it before going in. If you're feeling more daring you can use 1 day or no PIN timeout for wallet and not have to worry about internet connectivity.

One of the new features in KitKat is 'virtual smart cards' which allows them to take the credit card information and essentially create a virtual card that has the same content as your real card. It's protected the same way as your credit card does it. Tap and Pay is actually identical to "chip and pin" just done over NFC. So this duplicates the 'chip' part.
Any way to make this work outside the USA without any crazy hacks?
Are the only lollipop devices that use tap and go the nexus? I just picked up a note 4 and wanted to just tap and go on initial setup with my nexus 6 but it never asked me. Is this because of touchwiz and samsung or did i just skip past it without realizing it?
