Hello,
I would like to port the i9500 miui v5 rom for i9505 ( dev seemed to be stopped for that rom/device, but ?I am not sure...)
even if I am developer, I don't know, today, how to fully configure my linux and how to build a complete rom.
so, I was thinking by starting to port something working, done for a device not so far like the i9500.
- do you think it is possible ? or there si too many difference hidden, between the 2 device ?
- if yes, is it "just" changing things like :
kernel, low level to communicate with radio ( i thing that i9500 don't have LTE or 4G), and ???
from an external view, except radio and processor all the other hardware item should be the same, no ?
thanks for any advice, or help.
Olivier
the base rom of MIUI V5 for i9500 is a stock rom while the i9505 MIUI port is based on CM i think so its indeed a BIG difference
thank for your feedback.
I don't have the same info. let me explain what I was understanding with reading in various forum :
I was thinking that:
miui rom is a fork of CM, with new launcher, some special apps, and some special parameter / mods. etc.
done by xiaomi to have a special package with its phone MI-2, MI-3 etc.
and I was thinking that miui i9500 rom was official rom, because it is done by a team member of miui dev,
instead of miui i9505 which is a port because done by a not officla dev, nor a dev of the miui team.
note : i9505 is not sold in China so the official dev team can have access easily only to i9500.
in this case, we have to do port for i9505, it will be never official rom.
so, conclusion :
are you sure that the i9500 is a rom which is not based on CM ?
in this case, you are right, I will have difficulties to do a port
thanks
Olivier

The AOSP and cyanogen Roms which are available all of them have camera issues and other bugs. Why is it so?
Is it impossible to run AOSP on s4 i9500? If yes, then why so?
Is it because developers are slacking and just dont want to make a AOSP custom rom for s4 i9500 or there is something which limits developer from making AOSP avialable for s4 i9500. maybe samsung hasnt given tools or drivers to developers.
All the custom roms available for s4 i9500 . They all have written at the end of the thread that The rom is based on Stock firmware.
What is a firmware? Isnt it same as kernel?
Yeah I know I am total noob.

Don't panic, I can see ROMs based on AOSP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9500-develop
I have personally never seen a i9500 so I beleive they are just not that common or shipped to countries where there is a lack of devs. How about cooking your own? I've started to develop my own ROM which I'm using right now.
Firmware is a full system
The kernel also partly firmware
The kernel is the core of android
If no kernel will not boot
Note: sorry if i am wrong
I9500 has an exynos chipset which had been looked down by Samsung. This has been the case since the Galaxy S2. AOSP Roms exist for the i9500 but they won't be the most stable things you will try, so you are better off staying with the original software or a rom based on the original software.

Developing your own ROM is cool thing. That's what I will be doing after my next month exams.. I dont actually own a s4 i9500 but my cousin has it. I have xolo a500s. It's pretty looking device. I would like to port 4.4 kitkat AOSP rom on it.. :victory:

Thanks for replying. I think you are right. Firmware = rom + kernel.

Yeah that's it. Samsung doesn't share the full source code of it's exynos chip. half of the sourcecode is closed source. They just don't give the full source code to the developers. That's why developers fail to make custom kernels and roms.
But now I wonder why do samsung do this? Maybe they dont want other phone makers to know their unique performance tweaks which they have put in sourcecode.
Lesson learnt never buy Exynos powered device. Always try to get snapdragon powered device.
My feeling is
that almost Cyanogenmod roms actually
are very easy to flash by newbies
because CM Developers make
that lot of operations
are performed automatically(by default)
Like dirty & clean installations, wipes or choice of
android version & choice,format of partitions f2fs or ext4 ,etc ...
We get rarely bootloop or issues ( less < 10 % )
My experience is based on Samsung devices
Like : i9003 i9100 i9300 i 9500 i 9505 s5300 ...
Of course i succeed on Sony xperia x10 & jailbreak iPhone 4s.
In your opinion , Is it true ?
Share with us ur Xperience & Know How
Or suggest us other roms easier than CM.....
This Is not case of exynos model like g900h
Developers fevax & all his teamhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-0-galaxy-t3158414 work very hard to build CM rom for sg5 model G900H
Keenly CyanogenMod Os sizzle ?
Your idea, thanks in advance.
Hello everyone
I have a I9500 with Exynos processor running android 5.0.1, Baseband- I9500DDUHOA1, Build number- XXUHOF3.
I was generally happy with My phone but all hell broke lose after last update. Battery life doesnt last more than 2-3 hours. GPS doesnt lock at all. The phone hangs too much. Wifi signal is poor.
I can factory reset the phone (Since I didnt do it since several OTA updates) but I am wondering even that might not solve the problem and I should flash some good and stable ROM.
My issue is I Dont Know which one is a good and stable ROM. There are so many options and I feel very lost. Therefore I would be thankful if anyone can guide Me to which ROM should I install. My goal is simple- a fast working stable phone. Nothing fancy required.
I have flashed ROMS on My earlier phone Galaxy S (I9000) so I am not a novice and can do it if instructions are provided in the thread.
Thanks in advance.
Fast shouldn't be an issue, since practically any custom rom is faster than touchwiz.
I don't know much about the I9500 roms since I, myself, haven an I9505. But there is a rom called ressurection remix which seems to be available for both devices. I'm running it now and its fast and stable so far.
I'm using slimkat ASOP rom and it's nice and stable
Thanks for the replies. How is the default Cynagonmod? Any good?
Cm 12.1
Default Cm is maintained by Alberto with someone else .
If you want best cm experience use his own Gearcm 11,12,12.1 builds .
They are currently at a more advanced level of development than his own official Cm builds .
All are good . Look it up in original android i9500 forum .
Try gearcm 12.1 optimized by alberto96. It is rock stable, performance is also good. U can find it in i9500 original android development. Enjoy
And also for TW based rom halcyon rom is very much popular, u can find it in i9500 android development.
Thanks a lot for replies. Would it be possible to point Me to a link for downloading and installing this. I guess I should try with Gear CM 12.1?
Hows the gps and battery life on that?

Look here on xda we expect you to find it yourself. There is an entire section dedicated to custom roms.
If possible tell why
Of course AOSP or RR with android 6.0, but it is to hard at now, can it be aosp 5.1.1? becouse tank0412 aosp 5.1.0 has audio issues, if port the 5.1.1 and try to fix audio I will use it
[english is not my native language, but I will try]
My vote: surprise us! My only request is a rom a bit different than cm or aosp rom, they are very simple and equal. It's great if zenfone 5 can get some new experiences. Maybe a rom with Layers support? Or a rom with more tons of personalization like rr?
Examples of roms:
crDroid
AICP 10
MoKee
MIUI (Why note? A completely new experience)
Anyway, waiting
EDIT: I can't post as a answer -.-'
I Like Cyanogenmod also SlimRoms . Seems Like Devs started fighting again over there ego problems. I am Good with Cm12.1 right now accept a bug that doesn't allow me for wcdma only mode.
XenonHD ROM
http://www.xenonhd.com/
Zenfone 2 is having so many roms right now, can we get them for our Z5 and Z6?
Well, MIUI never worked before but I can try ...
6.0 I am already trying to over a week but still could not make it work c
I'm not even there to little fight, I'm here to help the community.
As they are slimroms has versions for kitkat.
And if it works for Zenfone 2 has a good chance to run for Zenfone 5
PS: I found it easier to answer all in a so response
Look I even try, but if I did would fall on saying it was another copy of the build so I prefer roms that have not yet any available version to avoid confusion
Which version of CM 12.1 are you using?
I love MIUI,it is a great looking rom,i remember when i flashed MIUI on my old S3 mini
MIUI is only one example, but I don't think is a good rom for all, because still in android kitkat. AICP and others like RR are good
@TecnoTailsPlays Tank already working in it. C'mon, roms different than aosp/cm! (with audio lag fixed)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-asus-zenfone-5-t3252789
I tried code *#*#4636#*#* for wcdma only mode but menu is unselectable, I replaced settings.apk from tank build then code and wcdma only mode works but settings gives force close so still in middle of mess.. :/ o guess sources are old of this rom. If u could then please find a fix even changing dalvik value doesn't work.
http://www.xenonhd.com/
I want Flyme or MIUI
@XHook please let me know if you find any solution for this.
*#0808#
vibeui is similar to miui ...maybe dev can port k900 rom which use intel cpu into zenfone
A Stable CM11 or AOSP Kitkat. That would be so great.
a decent lite kitkat rom will be awesome along with all the lollipop based rom,
BlissPop maybe.
I Know this is a little bit weird and i'm asking this on the right page , can someone make a custom ROM based on stock rom 6.0 or ZenUI 3.0 ?
What i'm asking is not mod because it'll be based on stock ROM Lollipop , what i'm asking is legit Custom ROM based on Stock ROM Marshmallow , sorry for asking such a thing
Who knows GPS and FM Radio Works on Stock ROM MM ( even though there's no chance to work on it ) ?
(I'm just asking please don't take it seriously)
Regards
This... won't work, I don't think we can port stock marshmallow from zenfone 2, and we don't have the source, GPS will probally never work, unless asus change her mind and release the gps code for us
