Hello everyone
I have a I9500 with Exynos processor running android 5.0.1, Baseband- I9500DDUHOA1, Build number- XXUHOF3.
I was generally happy with My phone but all hell broke lose after last update. Battery life doesnt last more than 2-3 hours. GPS doesnt lock at all. The phone hangs too much. Wifi signal is poor.
I can factory reset the phone (Since I didnt do it since several OTA updates) but I am wondering even that might not solve the problem and I should flash some good and stable ROM.
My issue is I Dont Know which one is a good and stable ROM. There are so many options and I feel very lost. Therefore I would be thankful if anyone can guide Me to which ROM should I install. My goal is simple- a fast working stable phone. Nothing fancy required.
I have flashed ROMS on My earlier phone Galaxy S (I9000) so I am not a novice and can do it if instructions are provided in the thread.
Thanks in advance.
Fast shouldn't be an issue, since practically any custom rom is faster than touchwiz.
I don't know much about the I9500 roms since I, myself, haven an I9505. But there is a rom called ressurection remix which seems to be available for both devices. I'm running it now and its fast and stable so far.
I'm using slimkat ASOP rom and it's nice and stable
Thanks for the replies. How is the default Cynagonmod? Any good?
Cm 12.1
Default Cm is maintained by Alberto with someone else .
If you want best cm experience use his own Gearcm 11,12,12.1 builds .
They are currently at a more advanced level of development than his own official Cm builds .
All are good . Look it up in original android i9500 forum .
Try gearcm 12.1 optimized by alberto96. It is rock stable, performance is also good. U can find it in i9500 original android development. Enjoy
And also for TW based rom halcyon rom is very much popular, u can find it in i9500 android development.
Thanks a lot for replies. Would it be possible to point Me to a link for downloading and installing this. I guess I should try with Gear CM 12.1?
Hows the gps and battery life on that?

Hi All,
I have had my Galaxy S 4 (I9505) for a while now but it is still running android 4.3.
I was hoping to update it to 5.0.1 but when I plugged it into my PC, Kies said 'This device is unsupported'
I want to flash a new rom onto it (I have done this in the past with a samsung tablet)
I was just wanting some feedback as to what is regarded as a good rom for it these days. Should I go a standard stock rom from sammobile or are there custom roms out there that perform better?
Thanks for any help and advice.
Daniel
Custom roms give you more performance. Stock roms tend to lag here and there, from what I saw in rom reviews.
If you want a minimalist rom, go for CM12 or Slim roms. They have very few features.
If you want lots of features, go for AICP or Resurrection Remix. These two combine the most popular features from other roms (I personally use Resurrection Remix).
And there are the GPE roms. I don't know how GPE 5.1 is, but on 5.0 the rom was rock solid and everything worked.
I can't say anythinv about stock touchwiz because, since I changed I never went back

Try a custom S6 Touchwiz ROM for your phone model - you'll be pleasantly surprised by the new look, feel and performance. I know I am!
I tried CM but not such a big fan... Experiment a bit until you find what you were ALWAYS looking for!
You try to consider CM 12.1 or GPE Roms. The major disadvantage is the camera quality and some multitasking features on TW, but it's hella fast and smooth.

Roms
I would recommend Cyanogenmod but sometimes it comes with some problems. Check out first which is the stable version for s4.
Also, I would recommend the WickedRom which is great and great performance. And the WanamLite Rom is amazing if you would like to tune your mobile , for example gpu or cpu in higher frequencies or even set custom gestures and etc.( but remember to be careful with those why you might break your phone

it's like you have already a custom rom, or a rooted & modified stock rom !.

go for Resurrection Remix like said: GDReaper, or may be BlissPOP ( with terrible battery drain for me).
I tried just the straight CM 12 rom and it was okay, but once I put on the one of the Optimized CM 12.1 roms I got better battery life and faster performance, but also lost a few features, got a few bugs, but so far so good. It really depends what you want.
If you are willing to have a few crashes, bugs you can put on the newest rom builds, but if you want stable, then going for the older well established ones may be a better option.

I have to correct you here buddy It's almost always better to pick the latest CM build. Because it's a work in progress, every new build has a lot fixes.
I'm curious though to what bugs you are referring to. I used it pretty long and I found it almost to be bugfree. Besides the obvious difficulty's with bluetooth.

Hey Lenny, the official CM builds I have never had an issue with (except nightlies of course) however when we get into the custom ROM world such as Slimroms, modified CM builds etc I do tend to hit a few bugs, such as crashes of apps, however often those builds then become stable.
Hope that makes more sense?
The only good advice is to just use stock roms. It's stable, no bugs, no issues. The only thing that pisses you off is the laggggggg!
Hello, I got my cousin's Redmi 2, so I was hoping to put Custom ROMs. I've been searching around, but didn't seem to find the best stable ROM. I need a daily driver, and it doesn't need to be Marshmallow, but an upgrade from KitKat would be nice. I love the Lollipop UI. But still, I give my preference to the most stable ROM, since I don't want juggle around every single custom ROM available.
Thank You!
UPDATE 21/03.
Thank you guys for the poll! MIUI was getting all RAM sucky so I needed to get a Custom ROM. I've tried Nexus Experience, Resurrection Remix, HTC Remix, and Kuma's CyanogenMod 13.
Nexus Experience: It has same user interface you get from Nexus, but it lacks multitasking capabilities. Besides most of the ROMs in stock looks like this, so I wouldn't recommend this. Link to Download, Credits:Nexus Exp. team
HTC Remix: This ROM is bulky in size, I've waited for 3-4 hrs for it to complete the download, and when I installed, the recovery ended with an error. But from the reviews, it said it has some camera bugs with the stock cam but Snapdragon cam is working. It didn't have the HTC Dialer also. If you switched from an HTC and want the HTC UI, you should take this. Link to Download, Credits:(--light--)
Resurrection Remix: This ROM was good, but compared to CM13, this ROM sucked battery more and at the first boot, the status bar had some lag issues, but after one or two reboots, it was working perfect. Besides that, no problem, this is the second best ROM. Link to Download, Credits:nick37332001
Kumajaya's CM13: This is by far the best ROM I've tried. Battery is the best, considerable less lag while multi-tasking, good gaming performance, and the basic MM UI. I didn't find any bugs at all. If you're looking for the best ROM, this is the one. Link to Download Credits:ketut.kumajaya
I've also found that, newbies to ROM flashing tend to think Official ROMs and Builds are better than Unofficial ones. This is a wrong perception. Kuma's build's are unofficial, but it had a much better performance compared to Nexus Experience. What counts is how much work the devs put into this.
Hope this thread becomes helpful to both users as well as developers. Great work, devs. Hope you keep up the good work.
Hello Venkatesh, Im using 2014818 too. Can you tell me which ROM are you using? Also, even after I flashed Custom recovery, I still see stock recovery, but from there Im able to access TWRP. is this expected behavior? Please tell stable roms for Redmi 2 2014818

Blisspop ROM
I have flashed Blisspop ROM, run smoothly until now ( more than 2 days)
Kumajaya's Marshmellow as daily driver. Using since last december, never crash-rebooted and rare bugs. Battery could have been better. And camera, obviously you can't beat MIUI's stock camera but it's all right.
cm 13 by kuma is already stable because basic functionality of redmi 2 is now working been using till now
Thanks guys! I've updated my OP, with reviews.
@rohitaar I'm too on cm 13 its smooth stable, but have you tried aosp caf,if yes how's it? I like idea of pure aosp ROM on which I could use xposed if I want any feature. Please review it if you can
I must add the (at least) here, none of the MM ROMs has a working adb, and some of has GPS issues

Do not believe this guy, I've been using ADB for like every ROM to batch install the APKs which I've backed up from the Stock MIUI.
ADB works perfectly. Also, I love Here Maps more than Google Maps, and it has no problems at all. Brother, if you have any issues with your phone, you should check it with the manufacturers, or at least other users, see if they have any issues.

@rohitsonone No.. I had a look at it, but the UI seemed too Ice-Sandwich type! You see the screenshots! Guess I'm happy with CM13! You can use xposed in CM 13, no problems, although I don't want any tweaks.
I dont think kuma's cm13 ROM has best battery. I mean it is not to hurt him, but the marshmallow changes which forces us to enable gps for wifi functionality is the thief. It sucks battery like hell. But cm13 of kuma had awesome camera and it had no lags at all !! Very clean and smooth UI. As the kernel source has been released for redmi 2 we will have wait for some good battery management tweaks. PS: I am using kuma's cm12.1 as my daily driver and it has no problem at all except camera quality and the battery management(better than cm13 but still . . .)
can anyone help me with the audio bug? {audio playing with speaker and headphones.} the roms i used tends to work normally for 10 reboots. but after some reboots the audio bug kicks in. audio playing with speaker and headphones. hope thats the bug with roms. I have used Ressurection Remix both 5.1 and 6.0.
Hi all,
I'm new on the S4.. I currently use the optimized CM version based on 5.1.1 but I'm not happy with it.. Too many bugs.. I just want to ask you which is currently the best stable rom for my device.. Of course I know that Marshmallow isn't stable.. So I'm looking for a good 5.X rom..
Thanks!
[jflte] gpe 5.0
Does it have a good battery drain? I don't find anything about it in the thread ..
I'm using AOSP 6.0.1 from JDCTeam and I'm absolutely happy with it. I never had any problem with it. Before I used various 5.x ROMS and had problems over problems.
Hope I could help you (even if it's not 5.x)
Both CM 12.1 snapshot and current CM13 nightly are quite stable. So if your phone has bugs running these ROMs, chances are you did something wrong or it is hardware problem.
Optimised CM by JDC is a great rom but since there are too many tweaks / mods in this rom, stability is quite subjective. If you want stable rom, go for stock CM.

The link provided by 3mel is correct. That's the ROM I'm currently using.
(I don't have enough posts yet to post links, otherwise I'd have posted it for you).
Hey guys!
As the s4 is not my device and I've don´t any clou about it's roms, i have to ask you.
The s4 of my gf is getting slower and slower, so I decided to put a new rom on it. I thought, that it would be cm 12.1, but I read about problems in every rom I saw.
So what is the most stable and fluid running rom out there in your opinion? It doesn't matter how many features there are included in the rom or how many updates will be coming in future. But i think 5.1.1 is a must-have.
Is it a clean stock install? Please help me

I Think Alucard's optimized cm12.1/cm13 is the best rom for i9505
Oh, didn't find the other thread from 23rd march the first time.. sorry guys!
There are so many Marshmallow rom available as of now for i9100. Opinion is invited from users/devlopers regarding the best MM rom in terms of performance, snappyness, bug free, features and off course battery back up.
I personally feel that it is very difficult to measure the performance of a rom even after trying individually unless the user try it for a reasonable time. Means one has to flash each and every rom for having experience. It is further very difficult to understand why mod/devlopers do take part of developing more than one rom thereby confusing users which rom of his favourite dev/mod to be used??
Please post your comment and help users selecting best Rom.
i own Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S4
both are use Resurection Remix M now
i used to install Tipsy ROM in S2, its great though for daily use but i cant stand the UI color
Nobody seems interested........assuming all roms are great!!
SlimLP for me!
You need to try it yourself. It's the best method. Try every ROM you've listed, maybe you'll like my AOKP... Nobody knows good luck finding your perfection!
