Anyone notice that after updated to MJ7, battery drain faster than previous firmware?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
yes iam N900 ,i updated to MJ7 in 3 days old mobile , now i can see quick battery drain than b4
Quite a few threads about this around the forum, It has shown it is different for every person. I myself have had great battery out of MJ7, however I think you are suffering the Google play services drain issue.
two fixes -
Clean the cache and/or uninstall the googleplay update.
or
Turn location services off.
Both have worked for people and the second option worked for me.
Just do a hard reset after updated to MJ7

I've also the same problem.. don't know to fix it...
After updating from MJ4 to MJ7, it happen the same to me. So i done a factory reset via recovery mode and solved the problem. My battery life improved a lot! So my recommendation is to do a factory reset in recovery mode.
Same here went from MJ3 to MJ7 and the battery doesn't even come close to what it was.
Will try some of the tips mentioned in this thread thank you.

Had the same problem solved with a hard reset. Definitively ? Not so sure...
Also had this problem over a week ago but solved it with a soft reset (switch off your phone, take out battery for a minute, do a cache wipe, reboot).
I'd try this first before performing a factory reset.

Wipe cache with the power cord plugged in and the battery out?
Sent from my SM-N9005
I wouldn't plug in the power cord when you remove the battery and do a cache wipe afterwards. Part of the reset is to have your phone without power for a while.

Tried all that! Tried calibration, tried full wipe even wiping internal sd (factory state/hard reset). NOTHING works.

Yh mate. I'm tired of people saying that it is normal. Because it isn't. This is like my 8th phone in just over a year which included S2, S3 and S4. No issues then and initially on note 3. No issues.

I was on MJ3 when I got the phone and the battery was no less than awesome.
I really could feel like I was holding the absolute best phone I have ever had or tried and I work testing software on phones part time and have had many many phones over the last few years.
The update which I really regret turned it into a completely different phone...
I could have lived with the delay in the power button and the brighter theme in the keyboard and stuff.
Hopefully Kitkat will make it better...

He said he used to go 3 days before charging the phone and now it's almost dead after a day.

Is anybody else getting their S4 i9500 to shut down at random?
Two main things that happened to my device:
1. Dropped from 4-5 feet onto concrete :crying:
2. Rooted and installed WanamLite ROM v1.1
Now I would sometimes pick up my phone and find it has been switched off when I don't remember ever switching it off. Battery wasn't anywhere near out in each case.
I'll take this to mean this has only ever happened to me? It'sonly happened two or three times in a week but still worrying...

No its not just you. I never dropped my device or anything. Even on stock rom ME1. I had device shutdowns twice in two weeks.
One more thing about the shutdown bissue is that when the device is turned on again, its battery gets a big jump of 10 to 15 percent less. You will be able to see it through the battery percentage graph in settings.

Besides the overheating and camera making my phone to restart..... i do not have this kind of issue. Hopefully the latest update gets rid of it.
To everyone suffering from this issue:
Guys, update your firmware to either MEA or the newer ones. I had this exact issue before the update but have no such issues now. The update will fix the issue 100%.
Have fun with your S4s

Hi there.
I own my stock Galaxy S4 i9505 for 2 months now, and since a week or 2 it started to act strange.
The phone turned always around 20% battery off, and started to freeze sometimes in normal use.
I did today a factory reset, since then it turns off around 63% battery.
Ill try to charge it for 100% and let it charge for some more hours, and do another factory reset then, but i doubt its a battery calibration problem.
Do you guys have any tip that could help me, or should i just return it to seller?
Thanks in advance!
Don't know if this will work but factory reset the phone then use until battery dies then charge whilst off untill 100% may be battery calibration issue.
Let me know how u get on mate

It's definitely not a calibration issue as that has no correlation to battery life. Thee OP is facing a hardware issue- either a defective battery or PMIC.

I'm facing similar problems. sometimes it last for a day and dies at 10% but sometimes it dies after a few hours with still 30 to 40 % battery left. After the phone switches off automaticaly i'm not able to restart unless i plug him in.
I tried a lot of things like flashing custom roms, factory reset, flash stock rom with odin with factory reset afterwards.
All with no luck.
It all started after flashing I9505XXUBMGA-PRE-ROOTED
Currently i'm on an older version suited for my region but the problem is still there.
I'm considering to buy a new battery. Can anybode help me please?
You are not alone. Many people report that problem with the original battery.Have a look at your battery if it is/gets fatter.
Buy a new one or go to the shop where you bought the phone, maybe they give you a new one.
phone gets red hot to touch just sitting idle on table its to hot to have in a pocket you can feel the burn im going back to previous version
Which version are you referring to

Try a factory reset. What you're describing isn't normal and probably not because of the new firmware. My phone works very well on 17.1.1.A.0.402.

ALways whenever we buy a new phone or flash a new ROM or upgrade, we need to reboot a few times, 3-4times and that solves all the problems.

Please find that once you update to another android platform specially. Your device needs to settle down a bit. During this time it's rebuilding dalvik cache etc which was wiped during the installation process. So give it a 3 more charging cycles and see if anything changes.

Same thing happend to me today when i flashed .402 on my device. I didn't use the mobile for one hour because it was too hot. After one hour, i started playing with it and it is fine now. I think it is just settling issue, takes some time and then fine.
This happens whenever a new rom is install or after a full wipe and android system is trying to read the sd card for media files and also sync info from accts.
It isnt new.

Hello guys!
I have a problem with my note 4, and don't know what to do, so i ask you.
My phone is rebooting continuously after lets say 40% of battery, not all time same battery percentage.
It only boots normaly when i plug the charger in.
Tried any roms even original ones, and the problem persists.
Tried with a new battery, same problem.
Please help me.
Same issue here. Any charge in the battery after 6.0.1.
Do a factory reset. If that and a new known good battery doesn't fix it... well, I'm in about the same boat, so my Note 7 arrives tomorrow.

Yes. Factory reset works in many cases. It worked for me the first time my Note 4 went wonky. It didn't help this time, and I wanted to upgrade anyhow. I reinstalled everything before even really testing, as I had no patience to determine if some update was causing the issue.
Obviously, backup first.

Today i was at 60% and wanted to install facebook and the phone suddenly restarted. So, i pluged in the charger for it to work and surprise 4% battery. Any ideeas? Maybe the motherboard?

Indeed you are right.
I had reflashed with Odin and the problem continues.
Buying a new battery solved the problem.
Interesting enough, I have it since November 2014 and I am always careful to recharge before 15%, but these 21 months seems to be its life time limit.
On the side note, a 100% charge at noon dropped to 92% at 7pm with the new battery.

I had this same problem. However a new battery solved for me.
Even applications closure are gone with the new battery.
I had noticed the drop in the battery indicator too. Even in the offline charging. The battery was 100% and sometimes when plugged in it showed 67%, 40% and 0%.
I first though it was a calibration problem after marshmallow and was about to root it in order to try to hard fix it.
Notice that when the phone is off, the % charging indication has to be right with the battery (no droppings).
If it shows a big drop (from 100% to e.g. 67%), the new battery might not be good.
Same problem with my phone I change battery my problem solved

Hi guys, really need some help on this.
After upgrading to nougat on my Su edge intl ver (exynos) SM-G935FD.
The battery has been horrible. From what I see in BBS it's always awake and running on max CPU state. Attached the ss... Please help me.
I've tried the following:
Clear cache using recovery mode
Cleared permissions
Disable Google play services (causing many other Google apps to fail so I enabled it)
Turning off wifi and location
Using data saver
Using battery optimisation
Using greenify
Tried the above methods solo, or a combination, all which failed to help.
From what I see Samsung pay is causing the problem. How do I solve this? It's an integral part of my life (really convenient). Thanks all in advance!

I have tried disabling apps like Facebook, messenger, Instagram, etc but no avail. Permissions method also tried. Reset all settings tried too.
I'm only left with factory data reset which I'm unwilling becaue Samsung cloud doesn't seem to be working properly.
I have the same problem too. I noticed that after the Nougat update my phone started to live twice shorter after recharging (1 day instead of 2). Couple of days ago I installed AccuBattery app which shows me that my phone lost almost 25% of its battery capacity :/ Don't know what to do. I am curious if I can ask for a battery replacement from Samsung service (warranty) or not.

Well I haven't tried any of the battery monitoring apps, but after the Nougat update my S7E shows me 15 hours and 5 minutes remaining right after unplugging from a wall charger.
well batterys have a capacity, there are number of charge cycle after which the battery doesnt stay healthy and the backup gets short..... It is possible, but might interfere with the rom's cache data and i don't think it will perform better because of that. So a factory reset is usually needed when reverting.
