Hi, I'm running a stock 4.3 rom with twrp recovery. I initially had the Franco kernel for my phone, but when I encountered recurrent errors when trying to install the 4.4 update I reverted to stock kernel, but I still have the same issues
Whenever I try to flash the update, whether installing directly or through add sideload, I get an error saying 'system/lib/hw/power.msm8690 contains unexpected content,
Error executing updater binary'
And the install fails. Reverting to the stock kernel hasn't helped and neither had updating twrp.
I'm a n00b, so now I'm stuck, hoping someone here can help me out, cheers

Instead of using the OTA package, you should flash the full 4.4 rom instead, flashing in recovery won't wipe your data. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527295
Flashing OTA packages using custom recoveries on a modified rom will undoubtly give you issues.

I'm trying to install 4.2.1 just because the update message is getting annoying. I tried flashing the stock recovery and using rootkeeper to back-up root. Once I temp un-root, I go into fastboot, then stock recovery. I try to sideload the 4.2.1 zip with ADB, however it fails when verifying the system (looked to be related to build.prop.) I also flashed the stock boot.img due to using Franco's kernel but it still gives this error.
So I was running Nexus4 with Paranoid Android ROM with TWRP recovery till now. PA was giving me many problems so I rolled back to stock from TWRP nandroid backup. Now phone is stock with SU and of course custom recovery.
I got the 4.3 OTA and is downloaded. AFAIK, after these customizations the OTA doesn't work and you have to manually flash the update with fastboot. Or a custom ROM with custom recovery.
Am I correct or I can go ahead and install the OTA which is already downloaded in my phone. Would that work or failure chances are more?

Hello,
I have nexus 10, rooted with custom recovery, it says clockworkmod recovery v6.0.1.6. Anyhow, when Google send the update for 4.4 it doesn't get installed when i click on it, the device restarts and goes into recovery and the installation is aborted.
I tried finding the solution some said i could directly flash the update through custom recovery. Can I though. I am really not good at all this, i rooted it a long ago.
Thanks.
OTA won't work on a custom recovery. You will have to be 100% stock to take the update or you can get the stock rooted version here at XDA in the development forums.
So I rooted, unlock the bootloader, and installed a custom ROM. I used the toolkit to revert back to stock. Tried to get the marshmallow update, and it fails to install. I try to go into recovery and it says no command. Are these related? And what do I need to do to receive the update?

You don't see the twrp recovery because you reverted completely back to stock. That is the stock recovery that you are seeing. Be patient and you will get the update or you can flash twrp again and update manually
I already got the update but when installing it stops about half way and gives an error message
I had this issue as well and found no solution other than flashing a pre-rooted 6.0 image.
Even after I went to 5.1 stock the OTA failed with no clear error.
That's the problem with toolkits.
Hi all,
I am using XT1643 indian version. I have successfully rooted it using TWRP recovery. However, I haven't changed the rom. Today, it is showing OTA update of security fixes. Should I update it or is there any particular method for updating or should I ignore the update.
Thanks.

flash stock recovery and then update
FlashFire
or Just use Flashfire A handy Application for updating rooted phone. but remember one thing always keep backup and stock rom file to your pc if something goes wrong you can easily re flash your stock rom.
Both options doesn't work.
With FlashFire, it is impossible to find the update file, and with stock recovery, its gives an error when updating
If FlashFire doesn't work, you should first unroot your device, uninstall xposed if you already installed it, also remember to use stock kernal after that.. flash stock recovery than update via ota. Let us update what happen
Edit :- I tried my self
1. unistalled xposed
2. un rooted
3. wiped all data, dalvik cache, and other stuf..exclude system
4. rebooted
5. flashed stock recovery
6. reboot again
7. download ota
8. device reboot again in stock recovery
9. And failed to update
10. So we cant update our phone unless new updated stock images available...
