So I was running Nexus4 with Paranoid Android ROM with TWRP recovery till now. PA was giving me many problems so I rolled back to stock from TWRP nandroid backup. Now phone is stock with SU and of course custom recovery.
I got the 4.3 OTA and is downloaded. AFAIK, after these customizations the OTA doesn't work and you have to manually flash the update with fastboot. Or a custom ROM with custom recovery.
Am I correct or I can go ahead and install the OTA which is already downloaded in my phone. Would that work or failure chances are more?

Hi,
I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I'm rooted, have CWM regular recovery installed, and on Franco's r72 kernel.
My phone says it has downloaded the 4.2.2 update.
so now if I want to update, what should I do?
I have found a "stock recovery enabler" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995440
Questions:
- Do I need to flash a stock kernel BEFORE I install the above revert zip to stock recovery? Or is it ok to be on Franco kernel throughout the update process and stock recovery?
- Would I lost root if I update?
- Because of my current configuration, would I lose any data if Install an OTA update?
TIA.

Read this thread about OTA installlations http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848.
Installation will abort, just flash a custom rom..
I'll give you a nickel for your pickle
I have the Verizon G2 and I was so excited to root and get custom recovery that I forgot to see if I was on the latest update... and I'm not. So of course I can't take the OTA with a custom recovery. So is there a way to get to the latest firmware with TWRP? Or a way to install stock recovery? Either of those would work I suppose.
Hi, I'm running a stock 4.3 rom with twrp recovery. I initially had the Franco kernel for my phone, but when I encountered recurrent errors when trying to install the 4.4 update I reverted to stock kernel, but I still have the same issues
Whenever I try to flash the update, whether installing directly or through add sideload, I get an error saying 'system/lib/hw/power.msm8690 contains unexpected content,
Error executing updater binary'
And the install fails. Reverting to the stock kernel hasn't helped and neither had updating twrp.
I'm a n00b, so now I'm stuck, hoping someone here can help me out, cheers

Instead of using the OTA package, you should flash the full 4.4 rom instead, flashing in recovery won't wipe your data. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527295
Flashing OTA packages using custom recoveries on a modified rom will undoubtly give you issues.
Hi,
i have a rooted nexus 4 with TWRP installed.
I got an OTA update on the phone which says TAP to Install Android 4.4, when i click that , it restarts the phone into TWRP and thats it....no update.
when i reboot y phone back to normal, its still on 4.3.
I want to install 4.4.2 without loosing my data. Is it possible, else i will have to install the 4.4.2 via TWRP , but install everything all over again, which i dont want to do.
i just want to install the OTA update.
Thanks.
Just flash the stock rom there's a few floating around here and you won't need to wipe data

OTA updates require a stock recovery and a stock rom.
Good morning, I wanted to know if I can upgrade to Android 7.1.2 beta with root and custom recovery installed. Do I have to remove them before upgrading or the upgrade will remove them automatically ? Will my device even boot if I update with root and custom recovery?
Thanks
Nope. Cant with custom recovery..

Your phone will boot loop if you don't go back to stock recovery first. I tried just to see what would happen and that's what happened. People who tried to flash it with Flashify reported no success.

Stock ROM? Important information you omitted. From a guy who always runs the latest stock ROM rooted and custom recovery here's how you do it: You do not have to remove them first, and although they (SU & kernel) will be overwritten with the new boot.img, it is very easy and straightforward. You need the TWRP flashable (beta) OTA zip file, in the OP here. Put the latest SU and your custom kernel on the device root, or wherever. (should already be there) and then reboot to TWRP recovery. Select "Install" and then select the OTA you downloaded above, and tap "Add more zips". Next you want to add the latest SU zip (2.79 SR3) and last add your kernel. Mine is EX. Once you have queued all 3 zips, in less than a minute you will be back up and running 7.1.2 , rooted and with kernel. Even if you flash each file individually you will still be ok. (OTA, SU, Kernel). See the same thread further down... Credit for the TWRP flashable OTA goes to @Displax.
