Moto Assist update in play store - Moto X General

Looks like Moto Assist was just updated in the Play store - I believe have read about various little bugs related to kit kat and/or the google hangouts sms feature, hopefully this update takes care of those issues.

So am I imagining this, or did the "Resume Music Play" feature while driving sneak in the "over bluetooth or headphone jack" option in this update? I had to turn that feature off because my phone kept playing music over the speaker when I was riding in a car (not driving). Hopefully they solved that annoying little problem.

http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-connect-hits-play-store-well-compatible-moto-s-kitkat-devices
they also updated the motorola connect, for the sms issues.
i tried updating the moto assist but it says my phone isnt compatible, maybe its just for kitkat

They definitely added support for hangouts with the Moto Assist update. Im very glad. They also added the ability to customize the text it sends.

Did they add support for hangouts IMs or just SMS?

[Q] Partial Skype possibilty?

One ideal Skype use is to be able to communicate via WiFI in any country. However, there appears there is yet no way to send voice into the nook, either Bluetooth or USB headset.
There are reports of folks being to hear but not send.
For travelers, would it be possible to send tones to a voice connection that would provide access to voice mail which could be listened to???
Any thoughts appreciated.
If i remember correctly all voice drivers were removed and the headphone slit in the nook does not support voice input either
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
Audio is not supported. Understood.
The query is whether touch-tones can be digital generated to operate devices or VM remotely using Skype. The connection is complete, all that is needed are the tones.
Add on to skype question
I'd like to add on to the previous skype question about the nook color. Even though there is no camera, and no microphone, is there a way to still receive calls(video and/or audio). I've done some testing and it seems I can't receive calls or my friends video because it won't pick up a cam or mic from the nook color.
A suggestion to what I'm asking is to find a way to simulate or make a fake virtual camera that's blank so that skype will think there is a camera, and receive video from the other end of the call.
Any help is appreciated

Skype does have a dialpad built into it. If you click on the little bubble with the plus on it, there should be an option. I tried it with mute on, though, and it didn't play the DTMF tones. I wasn't sure if you tried that already or not. Surely there is a way to do this.

I'm not sure if I fully understand. If audio maybe the issue, is video a viewable possibility for skype calls? If so, any ways to accomplish that?

If you still need Skype with dialpad (removed in latest version) you can use the 2.9.0.315 version. Download it from androiddrawer.com

Suggest me Smartwatch

Hello, I would like to buy a smart watch for my phone. My first requorement is that I want silent my phone with it. In class I usually find it troublesome to make it silent. Second I want to check my Facebook notification and see who is calling, accept or reject calls. Which smart watch would allow this?
Sony smartwatch 2 will do as I know
Sent from my GT-I9295 using Tapatalk
X2, I have the motoactv, metawatch, and Sony smartwatch 2.
They will all do what you want but the smartwatch 2 has been the most minimal cost/headache. I did have to get a paid app to get my sms working but now that I've hammered out the issues I'm pretty happy.
The downside is the smartwatch 2, is the hardest and most non-hackable watch out right now.
I use my smartwatch 2 to monitor my phone, switch, ringer/vibrate/silent, turn Bluetooth/Wifi on and off, and notifications.
You could wait a little longer as the google/apple/qualicom watches should be announced or out very soon.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
May also want to keep an eye on the SmartQ Z Watch.
I have smartq z watch for 4 days, I like that it can get ALLLL the notifications if you wanted, from every app on your phone, .. it basically takes everything comes to your notification bar in your android device and show it in your smartwatch, and by anything I mean ANYTHING! FB, Whatsapp, BBM,SMS, Hangouts ... etc you dont need special app to get notifications.
If there are more than one notification of same app, they will be grouped, you will get like "2 Whatsapp messages" instead of the content, .. but thats how android notification bar works by default you have to expand to see more info, wish you could expand content from watch, Also, just like normal android notifications in your phone, if you dismissed the notifications in your watch after seeing them you will not be able to retrieve it from watch
You can decide what apps you want push notifications for. there is a list of userapps and system apps in the sync app you tick / untick apps that you want to push the notification
I find that having bluetooth headset connected to your phone + z watch connected to your phone is ideal.
when a call comes, the caller id and picture appears in your watch, and you can answer and reject, .. if you answer you can directly use your bluetooth headset to talk and receive voice without even lifting your phone
The watch also has 3.5 headphone jack and a microphone, .. so technically you can do calling **** tracy style lol, .. but if you have a bluetooth headset it would be a lot more ideal IMO.
for SMS you can reply using pre-defined templates (you can customize those from the sync app)
seems smartq z watch is a good choice.

Moto Connect doesn't have Chrome Extension

Is it just my device? I have tried uninstalling updates and re-installing them. yet, no luck.
I have been using Moto X 2013 since Oct 2013 and this is one of the features I really like as I have my phone completely muted when I'm home.
Doesn't work for me either.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
I am very disappointed that this feature is not currently working as well. I use MightyText but i was looking forward to using an official moto app.
According to Matt on the support forum, Motorola has no plans to update the app to support the Chrome extension either.

That bites! I was looking forward to this since it is the only Chrome texting app I can get to work at my office.
Can I ask, what exactly was / is the Moto Chrome extension you're talking about? It sounds like it could be useful. I'm at my computer a LOT and was using a Google Voice number integrated into Hangouts on the desktop but Google Voice has been quirky lately so I'm switching back to using just my cell number from now on.
I have the Moto Surround and it's nice with Connect, and I would consider the Moto 360 but that stupid flat black sensor bar at the bottom... If Huawei can do a full circle display with the same sensors the Moto 360 has... why is Motorola incapable of going with a full circle display too? Ugh.
I may be returning the phone then, I have come to like this feature on both my X1 and X2. I also don't like the fact there is no email app either, it's on x2 which is running 5.1
ERROR!
Got this in my email today:

Two Things :
1. For texting from your desktop, I'd recommend PushBullet (https://www.pushbullet.com/). Android app, Chrome extension, does what you want it to do and more. I did hte same thing with Hangout / Google Voice but Voice just has so many quirks (esp iwth MMS and group messages) that it was untenable.
2. The Huwai watch does NOT have all the sensors that the 360 has -- in particular, no ambient light sensor. I notice the flat tire precisely zero percent of the time i'm using my watch. (I notice the ****ty battery life quite a bit, tho... )

Yeah but I cannot get pushbullet to be reliable for sending text. Sometimes when sending a new text it just sits there "sending..." then the message just disappears as if I never typed it. I am ok because Verizon has a desktop app that allows the texting from my PCs and it is a really good program. I am disappointed that Moto is spamming me with this feature from my phone (see my previous post), yet it is not there at all.
Got the same email and the same empty feeling when I tried to connect. And for the next person that says; "just use pushbullet". I would if I could, but it doesn't work at my office and this one has in the past, that is why I am on this thread.
Ah, sorry, didn't know people had issues with PushBullet.
If Motorola updates their Connect App to support the Moto X Pure, that'll be a nice solution for all of us without having to go 3rd party and possibly deal with additional battery draining.
Pushbullet is working ok for me.

Always on display with a music player control?

Is there any music app that can take advantage of the always on display?

No
I have wondered about this, too. In fact, it seems to me that Samsung's always on display (AOD) feature is quite severely limited, to the point that I question it has value that exceeds its cost in battery life.
I like my S7 Edge device very much, but I also own a Droid Turbo 2 (basically the same device as the Motorola Moto X Force), and having become accustomed to the exceptionally useful features of its version of an AOD (called Moto Display), I can scarcely believe Samsung's engineers weren't embarrassed to release their flagship's analogous feature, having surely seen their competitor's version.
On the Motorola device, the Moto Display screen only comes on when you look at it or it detects activity in front of the screen.
Unlike Samsung's implementation, Moto Display reacts fully to touch, allowing the following interactions:
* initiate a screen unlock
* view icons of apps that have unseen notifications
* touch an icon to see a preview of the app's notifications
* drag an icon to a notification to initiate an interaction with the notification
It may not seem clear how this works, so here is an example of a frequent use case for me:
We frequently binge-watch various Netflix series on TV via a Chromecast, using my phone as the Netflix controller. When credits roll on an episode, I reach for the device and the Moto Display comes on. One of the icons will be a black and white version of the Netflix icon. I touch the icon, and a Netflix play-control appears at the top of the screen. I drag the Netflix icon to the forward-arrow ("next episode") on the Netflix control. The next episode instantly queues and begins to play on the TV. I move my hand away from the phone and its screen returns to the off state.
This whole process takes about 3 seconds, and is accomplished in a single smooth motion from start to finish. The first time I did it, I instantly appreciated how well thought out this particular user interface design was.
Another way in which the Moto feature excels is that third party app support is pretty much indistinguishable from first party apps, unlike Samsung, where some of the AOD and Edge features are limited to Samsung and affiliate apps.
I really hope Samsung doesn't rest on their laurels here, and continues to improve the Touchwiz AOD experience. They have a long way to go to match their competitor's similar feature, in my opinion.

I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for a more robust implementation at some point. If people go online and post about what they like and don't like, hopefully it is helpful for manufacturers and developers to gauge the demand for things they may be working on or thinking about developing in the future.
And I'm not at all sure I share your opinion about what Samsung intends as the ultimate boundaries and limitations of their always on display feature. Maybe they just ran out of time and had to settle for something less than they would eventually like to offer.

Also the default musicplayer shows up when playing a song and waking up the phone, not like spotify where u directly see the lockscreen. Is there at least a way to make this possible for spotify?

Try XTouchwiz or Physical Button Music Control.
The first should work in theory if you freeze stock music app, and the second used to allow (it's been a couple months since I used it) to select which app would the "next/prev" action be directed to.

I know it's not the best nor ideal, but since I'm stock I'm currently using Samsung Music player and the latest update offered a new feature when not fully unlocking the device but just waking it up shows a full screen cover art with tags and the option to either Skip tracks and Play/pause, not much but better than unlocking the phone whilst driving lol.

you need to double tap.

Please like the video if you find it helpful:angel:
^^^ You are on Nougat though. Many people aren't, and without Nougat and the updated AOD, you can't control the music player from the AOD screen. It is actually a Grace UI AOD thing, but Grace UI is not on the S7E unless you have Nougat of course. My N7 has Grace UI and it has the much better AOD options you just showed.
Using the device almost a year and never heard of it before. I wonder what else I haven't explored yet

Samsung Gear Sport (or S3) compatibility with 6t

I have a 6t and love it and looking to add a smart watch . I really a leaning towards the Samsung Gear Sport (or possibly an s3) over a Wear OS watch. I'm concerned over compatibility with it being a non Samsung phone and certain functionality not working . The main things i'm wondering about is SMS messages, Call info, email coming to the watch. The compatibility page for the Sport shows not compatible with non-samsung android for messaging specifically but i've read others say they had luck w/ it. (although i'm not certain if thats w/ the S3 or Sport). I'm curious if anyone w/ a 6 or 6t has had any experience w/ the Gear Sport (or s3) w/ those features specifically.
Beyond that the big things i am wanting to use is standalone GPS and offline music but dont think i'd have an issue w/ that
any feedback would be awesome! thank you!
i have 6t and gear s3. it works like any other android phones.
havent had any issue yet.
Awesome thank you. So if you get a text or email can you read it on the watch and reply? Incoming call info good too? I wonder if the same works on the sport too since it shows slightly different info on it's compatibility chart compared to the s3

yes, yes and yes
everything works as it should. I have S3 and absolutely no problems pairing and using it with 6T
Everything works as expected
I changed my S8 for an 6T and I don't have any problems with my Gear Sport. If you didn't bought a watch yet, I would suggest to go for S3, as Gear Sport doesn't have a mic and a speaker. Not heaving a speaker means that the watch will not ring on i coming calls and messages, it will only vibrate.
thank you both for your input on this! so i was partially hopeful that this would all work w/ the S3 since that compatibility chart shows "limited availability" for non samsung android for messaging and the Sport chart shows "not supported". so maybe its just an outdated chart or we're just getting lucky i guess. Support told me yesterday that w/ a non samsung android and the Gear Sport you'd get a notification that you have a SMS but you wouldnt be able to see who it was from or read it. hoping what you guys reported is the actual norm though! w/ SMS can you read the whole string of text convo or just the new message that arrived? not a big deal but was curious. I like the look of the S3 better but really like the waterproof part of the Sport. i'm not sure the speaker/mic is a big thing for me or not as i'd be fine w/ just vibration (as long as its sufficient)
I'm using Gear sport with OP6T and I don't have any issue.
I have the Gear S3 and everything works fine, but I should mention that I use Textra for SMS, not the crap default messaging app. I can read the full message and reply with quick replies or voice to text.

I got my Gear Sport and working great with my 6t! one thing missing is the Messenger app on the watch. I do get notifications for new texts and i can reply but cannot see past messages or the whole thread like it supposedly let you do w/ the messenger app. From what i gathered a lot of others are having the same issue and they used to have it sounds like. I'd bet its because its not a samsung phone so they stripped that feature from non -samsung which is super lame. is everyone else seeing the same thing?

Do you use Android Auto in your vehicle? Sometimes when I receive a call, my Gear s3 will take the call instead of my vehicle. Then in the speaker menu I can only see Bluetooth of my Gear s3, but does not show more that one Bluetooth option. It's frustrating. If I turn my watch off, it goes back to my vehicle. Once in a while it works fine, but I can't rely on it working.
