[Q] Root with ART - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Can someone tell me how to maintain root capabilities after the switch to the ART runtime.
I cannot see the "supersu" app and all the application that requires root access, wont work.
I flashed the zip file from this thread.
Noone seems to have this problem, is it possible?
Thanks.

Switch back to dalvik, apply root, switch to art???

I definitely don't have that issue.. did you root it correctly, or was it with those 1 click root programs..?

They'll download, but a custom recovery will prevent them from installing.
Thanks. That is what I thought.

And your going to unroot to get ota's? Why bother? You will find a rooted rom here within a few hours after a new version goes ota!
I was running 4.1 on my galaxy nexus the day after the Google i/o showcase...thank God for development
No, I will not unroot. I will wait for the ROM to be posted here.

But flashing new rooted ota will it delete the tablet data? So will I do a factory reset from custom recovery before I apply it or I can flash new ota on old one without losing data?

More likely you will lose your data if done that way so do a nandroid backup first if possible .

[Q] Block files access in custom recovery - is it possible?

is it possible to block adb access to phone while it is in recovery?
I mean, we've got PIN/password to protect phone, but if a hypothetical high-tech thief access recovery, he can have all files via adb, right?
Any way to block that while in a custom recovery?
Just encrypt your phone, use a different key for encryption and lockscreen and your data is safe

just bought Joeykrim's app and works great. Thanks for the hint.
Already keeping recovery.img and twrp.img in /sdcard so when needed I just flash twrp's.
I believe this is easier than having to encrypt all phone :good:

[QUESTION] Root Nexus 4 (JB 4.3) with USB broken.

Hi,
I somehow broke my Nexus 4 motherboard in a way which I won't be able to use my usb for debugging anymore.
I have been looking for a solution and I thought about enabling ADB over wifi, but for that I need either connecting it to my PC (what I obviously can't because of what I already explained) or to having root.
So, can you please guys help me? I saw there is "framaroot" to root android devices from a single click in the device, but it is not working for 4.3 yet. Any other idea? Any suggestion? Do you think that at some point of time from now it will be supported 4.3 on "framaroot" ?
I a little desperate on this, so any idea is welcome
Thanks guys, YOU are the best!

Of course! If you have a recovery installed, you can flash files from it, right?
Just download this zip and flash in recovery. If the recovery asks you to fix anything say NO.
That way you will have rooted 4.3
