Why is it suddenly draining? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As you can see I've got hardly any screen on time. Location services, GPS, sync and everything were off. Data off. WiFi on but had strong signal entire day. Battery saver on. Not rooted, full stock. Any ideas on why it suddenly started draining? I've been getting much better life than this. After 18 hours of this kind of usage I usually have 50+ percent left.

CarrierIQ! You probably have it enabled. Given that your screenshots say AT&T, this is most likely the culprit. Disable it and your battery issues should go away.

I've read people across devices have been getting drain from Google Play Services. Seems it would show up though, it's the 2nd thing in mine next to screen...

I don't have that issue. My Google Play Services only takes up 2% of my battery. But its a known issue that if you have an AT&T phone, chances are you accepted everything when you first setup the phone and opted into CarrierIQ.
For the OP, his screenshots don't see Google Play Services as a battery drainer. I am pretty sure it is CarrierIQ draining his battery especially if he has GPS enabled all the time.

Battery usage was included in screenshots.
Carrier IQ uses that much battery? User has to opt in to it?
Guess an FDR is in order to opt out this time. Save you stuff to your PC or cloud first.

User opts in when they have a pop up window asking if they can collect locations statistics and send it back to Google or whatever for assisting in resolving issues. I don't have AT&T so I don't have the exact popup handy. I just know that Tmobile has an setting in Options to disable CarrierIQ.

I don't have GPS on ever. And I can't find carrierIQ anywhere. I'm not familiar with it.

Wouldnt that be a wakelock issue? look his cell standby takes up the most of his battery... check out GASM battery so you can know what to disable to save battery

Google Play Services has been killing me over the past few days and there have been a LOT of reports of others having the same issue across multiple devices. Today Google Play Services has taken up 37% with 14 hours of wakelock. Absolutely ridiculous.
No one has been able to figure out why.

I have an ATT D800 and just started experiencing this in the last few days. I already had disabled CIQ (checker says it exists but is disabled).
It may be the google play services issue and I just finished disabling those and charging to 100%. We shall see.

I took these things off, and got great batterylife after that:good: It should help for google play services battery drain..but report back if it works or not.
Settings -> Location access -> Off
Google Settings ->Location -> Location Reporting Off, Location History Off

All location settings are off. I've been with android since 2010. I've always kept location everything off.

I think there's an issue with WiFi on the D800. If I leave my setup the same as when on LTE, but turn on WiFi instead, I get a nice steady battery drain. I have compared BBS stats to when I'm on LTE and I don't see anything different. No wakelock keeping the phone on. Deep sleep is similar, etc.

Found the culprit. Battle Dragons, a game, was keeping the phone awake. Better battery stats showed it was never letting the phone sleep. Getting normal life now that I've uninstalled BD. No clue why it was waking it though, I stopped the app.

I am also experiencing the same thing.
Mine started with this and from next day onwards it is getting over heated and now currently heating issues and crashing
Do what spaceman said your phone isn't sleeping. One hour+ of staying awake.
Also, go into Google maps into settings into location settings and disable automatic location reporting and uncheck the other things.

I think it means that it prevents your phone from going into deep sleep.
Not entirely sure though, you might want to wait for someone to confirm what I said or tell you what it really means.
Regarding your question in post #1:
What have you been doing on your phone (i.e. playing games, phone calls, watching videos)? Do you have GPS and Bluetooth on? WiFi? 3G? How many (and which) widgets do you use?
Wakelocks stop your phone from entering deep sleep which therefore causes battey drain. The app will tell you what is causing the wakelocks so you know what is draining your battery and can deal with it. However, it might just be that your phone usage is causing the battery drain e.g 3G and GPS always on as the battery life isn't exactly amazing on the nexus 4

Battery Life is absolutely horrible

Ive been using an iphone 5 and Optimus G Pro for the past 8 months waiting for the new androids to come out this fall and I am quite disappointed. I have the ATT version, i have wifi, gps, bluetooth all off, never had to do that on the iphone. I close out all the apps and clear the ram, and I went through 30% overnight while I was sleeping. My Optimus G Pro was far better on battery and that seems kinda backwards?
Is there like a break in period or something, what is the deal here

You have to figure out what application is causing the "wake lock"
What a wake lock is; Its something running in the background that is not letting the phone "sleep" or otherwise go idle. Meaning your phone is running full speed ahead while you are sleeping.
It could be all sorts of things causing a wake-lock. I had one guy on my ROM have a wakelock because his internet connection was so poor the phone just kept searching and he was draining about what you are draining everynight.
Another thing I would look at are your location settings, not just GPS. The new Google settings Icon has a bunch of crap that it syncs and tracks you via all sorts of stuff. Go in there and make sure nothing is turned on you dont need...
And lastly, like the other guy said, check for a battery stat app. They can show you what app is not sleeping or why your phone is not sleeping like it should.
Facebook is a notorious offender. With refresh off I would get over 140 wakelocks in a 7 hour period.

mine is way better now, after being off the charger for 3 hours I'm at 94% where as yesterday I was probably at like 70% at this point.
Don't forget most android handsets need a 72 hour battery calibration window before you will see a more even battery level. After 72 hours your phone should have a good batch of data to help gauge its power levels.
Battery is fantastic on this phone. Coming from an X and Note 2.
I'm still on my 2nd full charge but notice once the phone huta around 60% the percentage drop starts to slow down, I figure this is just calibration getting dialed in and so far I'm very happy with battery life.
fd toggle
Hi there, I am not sure if this is the reason but I used to have Fast dormancy toggle apk on my old lgog to prevent the phone from complete discharge even though I was not actively using the devicd. I installed the fd toggle here, too and I can honestly say that if I am charged 100 % at about midnight, I have the same 100 at about 6:30 when I get up. Of course, no data,no sync,no wifi and no active use of any kind during that time. I do not know if the app is the key but the result is pretty impressive. I have the korean version F320K.
I was using the Snapdragon Battery app on my DNA. Never sure if it did anything. Is it worth using on the G2 as well? Love the phone! Less gimmicky than the S4 and more interesting than the Maxx.

This is dumb. My G2 was at 100% battery for 3 hours! You either have a lemon or your cell reception is poor where you are. The battery life is not horrible.
Yeah, I'm with the rest. I'm coming from a MAXX HD (insane battery) and the battery optimization on the G2 is far superior (albeit smaller battery).
Bought the phone over 24 hours ago and I am still on the charge from the box. Its running great for me with LTE on.

Check the carrierIQ thread in general. Forget where the detailed play services one is, but if you use TB to uninstall the system play services and then reinstall it from the play store you get less wakelocks.
I installed CleanROM 1.1 on Sunday. Battery life on Monday was excellent. Monday evening I went ahead and disabled CarrierIQ because of the excessive wakelocks (but it didn't really kill my battery). What I don't understand is that BBS is reporting that my phone was in deep sleep when I wasn't listening to music through my headphones or bluetooth. So I don't really know what to make of it, because it was sitting in my pocket for most of the day at work.
Normally I'd still be at like 85% at least. I was hoping someone could shed some light because BBS is not reporting any excessive wakelocks that could drop my battery almost 50% in a 10 hour period with only a little over 10 minutes on screen time and an hour of music playback.
Android status can also shed light on run away processed. Outs in the play store.

Haha, even your "bad" battery day is still pretty good compared to me. I kind of think anything over 10 hours is good.
Right now I'm at 86%, that's 5:51 up, 4:03 deep sleep, 1:48 awake, 0:45 screen on. Which, yes, means my phone has spent over an hour awake without the screen on? Very sad.
One odd thing I notice is that it says I spent 42 minutes with No Data or Unknown Signal. I wonder if that's part of it being Awake? it kept searching?
Other than that I've got 11 minutes of NlpCollectorWakeLock for that 5:51 up.
I'm not complaining, those are still very good numbers. But I feel like lowering that off-screen awake time could take it from very good to great.

Yeah, you know what I never really thought about it like that. Though I *do* kind of have fun looking at my location dashboard in Google and seeing where I've gone and other metrics.
But you're right, its a huge hog (I'd say I get an extra 5-8 hours without it) and it isn't adding *that* much value.
I Greenify Facebook Beta and Twitter. And for some reason Google Keep keeps getting stuck in a sync loop, so I Greenify that too.
Think I'll clear data on GNow and see if I really notice the loss.

[Q] Help With Battery Drain

In the past week or so, I've noticed that my battery is draining unusually fast. I will take the phone to bed with me (I use it as an alarm clock) at 100% battery and I can wake up 7 hours later with it at 82%. When I look at my battery information, I see steady, solid drain over that time, with the biggest offender being Google Services. When I look in Wakelock Detector, I see the most usage (though seemingly not a ton) by Android System.
I found some tips on using Wakelock Terminator in Xposed to filter some things from Google Play Services from triggering wakelock, and I was optimistic, but it didn't seem to help.
Any advice?

Are you on a stock rom? Did you try greenify? It's on the play store. It kills the apps background services and the app itself until you start the app or the app is started by another app or service. Soon as the app os no longer needed it is turn back off. This program does not freeze apps it prevents them from running until needed.
Ah, sorry, I should have mentioned my rom and such. I'm running ForceROM, a relatively older version (maybe 2.3?), since I never felt the need to update.
I haven't tried Greenify. Haven't actually heard of that one before. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Try a custom kernel like KToonsez in addition to Greenify. It's amazing what you can end up doing with that kernel
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
ForceROM includes Ktoonsez kernel. For the last 8 months or so, I've had great battery life. This is a sudden and recent change, which I'm assuming to be caused by an update of some Google app (such as Play Services).
How do I use Greenify? Or do I just install it and it does magic?

I believe that installing Greenify might have done it. Battery usage looks much better today. I'll do a real test tonight when I get it charged to 100% before bed.
Well, I'll be...
I think that the problem is wifi. When I'm at home, I'm on wifi, and the battery is constantly draining. When I'm not at home, and on mobile data, the battery is well-behaved.

Some apps can be setup to sync over WiFi only instead of 3G/4G data. but you have to check what apps would be the culprit. I know Google play, dropbox's picture upload feature can be set to download/upload/update over WiFi instead of data. But the only way to know is to see what apps connect over WiFi.
WiFi is suppose to give you better battery life since its signal is usually nearby and your phone doesn't have to use more power to find a better signal like it does with 3g/4g. I know for me it does since there are very few towers in the middle of the dessert.

So, interesting twist to this saga. Leaving wifi off takes away the solid blue bar on the battery screen, but I still see the same level of battery drain (about 18% overnight). Very intriguing.

Sounds like you're losing power to things syncing over wifi. Maybe try just giving it a week and watching it to see if it settles down. Google play sometimes settles down on its own. I also vote to check out greenify. With the donation package you can work wonders at calming down power hungry apps, even system apps.

My situation has suddenly taken a turn for the much worse. I don't know what's going on. I haven't added anything new or changed any settings since installing Greenify a while back. Now, the battery is just tanking. I got up to 100%, ran Battery Calibration and now, about 2.5 hours later, I'm at 82%. Could this just be a problem with the battery itself? Do I need to replace it?

Honestly there are a few days where the battery life suddenly drops dramatically. I've experienced this on unrooted mf9, mk2, and nae. Give it some time and see if battery life comes back up. You can reboot the phone to kill a rouge app that might be the cause.

This is the first I've heard the term MJA, so I don't think I'm on that.
There definitely do seem to be days where battery is worse than others. And I do typically try to reboot when I see it acting too squirrelly. I'll just keep keeping an eye on it. Weird-ass phone...

Battery Life Thread - LS992 Specific

I want to try to work with other Sprint owners and see if anyone else is dealing with something similar.
I have a Titan LS992 that is having some software wakelocks thats causing larger than normal drainage when the phone is supposed to be sleeping.
I saw about 13% over the course of 8 hours last night when phone wasn't used. I even put it in Airplane mode to rule out Wifi/Mobile Data causing problems and it still lost a little over 1% an hour.
In my battery stats, Android System is what is causing the wake lock. It shows CPU total that is pretty high as well as Keep awake number that is high. Using GSAM is a waste w/out root, and there is no app that is showing up in battery stats that is out of the ordinary.
I've performed a full factory reset and still nothing. Prior to this I had used the "pm hide" adb command to hide a bunch of stuff and it seemed to have stopped this behavior than one night I lost 27% overnight and saw this behavior return. So I reset and left everything stock. I only disabled what I was allowed to via the App Info screens.
Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know anyway I can try to track down whats going on w/out root?
I've attached some screen shots of battery stats.
I've not really got any stats for ideas. But I did find that LG Health took a HUGE hit on my battery. Once I retset that it went back to my normal. My phone idle is always pretty high like 30%+
I've been losing 10% an hour on average with LTE/3g, gps and Bluetooth running at all times but I found if I turned on background data restrictions it puts me at 5-6% per hour hope this helps a little. (Edit) I was looking at my cpu usage and found something interesting in over 35 hours worth of stats it shows I only hit deep sleep for 13 min here is a link to my stats that I'm referencing https://plus.google.com/117150330027523842650/posts/MqUWWNDsXbH
Hopefully an update fixes whatever conflict is causing this.
I've tried contacting Sprint and LG about it. Haven't heard back from either.

I have the same issue its breaking my mind i tried everything Lol. Barely 10 min of deep sleep during a Day
I usually can only get 10-12 hours before this phone dies. Its pretty crazy how bad the battery life on this phone can be.
When android os/system is spiked high usually a firmware reload is needed. If theres a corruption in the framework sometimes a hard reset wont correct the issue. Also scouring through settings and turning off things like day dream, always on and other misc features will help. Under network change from global to LTE/CDMA will help. I quit stressing aswith quickchatge 3.0 it takes All of 30 minites to top thw battery off
