Hmm...not sure. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it on 4.3 and above. Not that I've found so far, anyway. One kind of roundabout way might be to make a VPN connection, and then specify the DNS settings for the VPN connection? Not sure about that, but it seems like it might work.
If you have root, use DNS Changer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eddypcz.dnschanger

Does it work? Reviewers say it doesn't work with Android 4.3 (and we can assume 4.4).

Hi, I am the developer of DNSwitch.
I got contradicting reports that on 4.3+ it doesn't do it or does what it's supposed to do and have started looking for info if there is any API change. And ended up here. It could be just trolls (to push the paid competition, for example ) so confirmation would be helpful. So is this a definitive YES that it does work on your device?
Anyone else's info on the subject would be welcome as well, of course.
Thanks.

I don't get that 'OpenDNS filters' thing. Does that mean the dns port is blocked by your ISP? In that case you really only can channel out your DNS requests thru vpn (nice enough by them to allow port 443/https traffic, I suppose? )
Blocking basic internet services is dumb IMHO...

So I have had tehtering for as long as i have had t mobile and all of a sudden today they blocked it. now what?? is it just gone or is there a way to work around it??? my phone is rooted thanks
I haven't tried tethering today but I would think if you're rooted then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Most roms come preinstalled with tethering apps and you can download them.
They CAN block it on a rooted device if they notice. Not much you can do about it.

Same question for me. I use tethering sparingly, but just got blocked today. I'm fully rooted and on cm7 rc3, using the native tethering from cm7 - and this no longer works.
So are there any 3rd party apps that will bypass the block? I tried barnacle and wifi tether for root users, but couldn't seem to get either to even connect to the computer correctly.

A quick and dirty fix that works in a pinch for t-mobile is to create a new APN and make it epc.tmobile.com, then switch to it. I tried it the other day after they started sending me to that site where they tell you to add tethering to your plan. It worked.

Hi,
Has anyone who has updated to 4.2 tried connecting to a wifi network protected by leap, I am unable to connect since the update, I know my credentials are still correct and valid as my sensation on 4.03 are connecting still.
Thanks Andi
About to find out.
EDIT: I'm on my work network right now and LEAP is working fine. I used the factory image to update after the ota borked maps and the network location provider.

Hi!
same issue has been seen on my Nexus 7 since OTA update to 4.2.
Ii is also same that my credentials are still collect because my another device, Galaxy-S, is working fine thru leap authentication.
I used "Leap WiFi" from Google Play to set credentials.
Looking forward hearing some hints to solve this.

Thanks for letting me know, I wonder if we have slightly different implementations on our networks as I can see someone else is having the same issue as me.
Just discovered the same issue, will probably put off updating my Gnex to 4.2 at this rate.
My N7 now won't connect to my work's network. I've reached out the developer of LEAP Wifi Free to see if they will investigate.
same here
i'm also trying to connect to the company network after updating to 4.2 using the incremental zip file via adb
the credentials are correct, as I could log in with them using my old Atrix 4G and my collegue's Nexus 7 still on 4.1.2
I'll try to get into our office tomorrow and perform a factory reset (however I doubt it would help)
I've been getting some problems too, when connecting to college network. My best guess would be the new file structure on 4.2 is the problem why many things are broken...

a factory reset won't solve it.authenticating with a network needing LEAP credentials is still failing
I can confirm LEAP being broken on Nexus 7 with stock 4.2
How about pimping the gui whilst your on this google ? We have to use custom apps to achieve basic functionality for years now...
Confirm my N7 3G on stock 4.2.1 has LEAP wifi broken. Tried Leap Wifi, still no luck.
Why is Google so reluctant to officially support Cisco Leap? Before 4.2 update, you have to hack config file to get connection, meanwhile LEAP has been supported very well day back to my still owning iphone 3G. And in IOS you just don't care what kind of technology is used (WPA, WEP, how can normal user understand such terms?), just enter necessary information, normally just pwd, or user+pwd for LEAP, and that's all.
Broken also on S3, 4.1.2 official firmware. Weird, anybody got a workaround?

Looks like only 4.1 support there...
The other link is a patch script - it extracts your existing email client, patches, re-packages and pushes it back to the device. Clever stuff and, so far, has worked across multiple Android versions without problem. Better than a static, patched .apk I reckons...
It works fine on 4.2, been using it for a while now.

"Obviously requires root access and working adb." - so, needs a computer. When I do this it takes around 60s to complete and then I can re-add the Exchange account, which is removed as part of the process.

Activities? It is too level under Settings. You won't confirm whether it is locked to Sprint or not, but it would seem so. Mine isn't. If you can't add a new APN by clicking the + icon then probably not.

Probably not, but I'd think you'd know whether it was before you bought it. I can't begin to guess what the issue is since you can't directly access APN settings by going to settings, and I've never seen 'Activities' or whatever it was you used to access your settings. Normally you'd go to settings and get to mobile networks from there.
I don't know anything about Sprint but if you do a little research online, I think you'll find that if Sprint users on non-LTE networks or using project Fi don't have access to edit APNs normally. You probably need to go to a Sprint forum or contact them. Good luck.
