I've been having lag issues when my device wakes up. I think it has to do with some apps auto-updating in the Play store.
Anyways, I've noticed that either Rebooting into Safe Mode will get rid of the lag or I can also Power Down and then turn it back on. I was hoping for something in the middle where I can just restart the Nexus 10 without going into Safe Mode. Is there a way to do this?
There are several apps that will create shortcuts for rebooting or fast reboot. I use ROM Toolbox Pro, but there are others.
You can also just type "reboot" at a command prompt (might need to su first).

Hi everyone,
I have an original N7 (Tilapia) and ever since updating to the 4.3 update, my Nexus has been stuck in safe mode.
I've tried shutting down and restarting the device several times. In the end I gave up and did a full stock image install, erasing everything (I have a Nandroid backup, so not too worried). Literally, the Nexus is back to full factory conditions (no root, no unlock, no custom recovery).
However, even that does not seem to have achieved anything. I am still stuck in safe mode. Is there any way of getting out of this or working out what is causing the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, safe mode is caused by holding both volume buttons while starting, so I'd try to boot in to safe mode again to possibly get out of it.

If you’re experiencing issues - such as apps crashing, reboots, or fast battery drain - on your device, they could be caused by a third-party app. To check if this is the case, you can start up your device in safe mode, which temporarily disables third-party apps that you’ve installed.
Ensure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.
Touch & hold the Power off option in the dialog box.
Touch OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.
Try using your device in safe mode to see if the problem persists. If it doesn’t, restart your device to get it out of safe mode and uninstall recently installed apps to see if you can pinpoint the one that’s causing the problem.

My Nexus 7 has recently begun a reboot-load OS-load apps-reboot cycle that I'm at wits end to fix.
I've tried uninstalling some apps that I thought might be the cause (AutoShare and Tablified HD Market), but whenever I remove them, the next time the tablet boots up, they are still there.
I've also tried to get into safe boot mode while the tablet is booting. The dialog pops up for the Power Off option, I hold that until it prompts me for a Safe Boot, I tell it OK but still the tablet reboots as normal with the same apps loaded as usual.
Also, I was previously rooted and unlocked, but the last Android update torpedoed that, and because my USB port doesn't work, I have no way to reinstate my root. As a result, I have no Recovery, which eliminates a couple of other options.
Oh, and I also tried to do a Factory Data Reset, but in the same way that it won't recognize the deinstallation of apps, the Factory Data Reset is not working.
Anyone seen anything like this before? Any suggestions?
Is there anyway to reboot the Nexus 10 without going in Safe Mode? Or if you already rebooted into Safe Mode, can you reboot back to Normal Mode?
So far I've had to Power Down to restart Nexus 10 without going into Safe Mode.
The reason I've had to do this is that I've been having a wake up lag issue. Happens every now and then and I think it has something to do with automatic app updates, but not sure. So maybe this is a two part thread.
There's no reboot option on the N10, I'm guessing you're rooted?
Two days ago my wifes 1st generation Nexus 7 refurb started giving the "Unfortunately, NFC service has stopped" error. You click OK and the error instantly pops up again. There is a moment to click on something if you're fast and I've been able to click on settings but when settings opens it's nothing but a black screen with no options. This means that I can not enable usb debugging. I have tried quite a few different processes, ADB sideload, going through the bootloader, but they all seem to require usb debugging and the tablet is never recognized. The tablet is stock but I have no way of knowing what version of android it is currently running with the blank settings window (unless you can give me a tip on that). Have done two wipe/factory restores on it and the error comes up right at the first boot screen. I am willing to pursue any option to get this tablet in working order. Rooting, flashing, whatever but I am a novice in the world of android rooting. It was purchased off groupon (won't make that mistake again) and the 14 days are past so If I have to send it in, it's cash money out of our pockets.
Do I have any options? Thank you for your time!
Most frustrating of all is that everything else about the tablet seems to be functioning normally. I can install apps from google play. I can't really run many of them though.

If the tablet has never been rooted, and the factory reset procedure seemed to complete successfully, then your symptoms suggest that something is wrong with the /system filesystem - which, for stock devices is never modified (always mounted read-only).
So that in turn suggests *perhaps* flaky hardware - probably the flash memory chip - that has gone awry and is the root cause of the problem.
It is conceivable that you could go through the process of unlocking the bootloader and re-flash a Google-provided "factory image", and that the problem will go away. But if the root cause is really a flaky flash memory chip, it will very likely return with a vengeance, and your efforts will be for naught.
There is something missing in your narrative, however - if the appearance of the "NFC Service has stopped" dialog on-screen prevents you from interacting with your (intended) foreground apps, how were you able to perform a factory reset and then follow that up with a tablet configuration? (e.g. to get Google credentials on the tablet so you could push apps to it by using a PC Web browser from the Google Play market).
If you are unfamiliar with rooting but still want to proceed with reloading the factory images, you will have to follow the Stock Recovery tutorial threads. Many users - especially those with Windows machines - seem to get stuck at this step, although truth be told that has nothing to do with Android, and everything to do with Windows Driver Installation Hell.
Note - specific to your situation.. You do not need to enable USB debugging to re-flash factory stock images. You only need to communicate with the device (booted into bootloader mode) with the "fastboot" program. For this you only need working USB hardware - not "adb".

BTW, note that you can perform a factory reset in the stock recovery without launching it from the O/S. The sequence is:
1) Turn the tablet off (not screen off, but powered completely off)
2) Boot into bootloader mode by holding Power+Vol-Down together (hold them down until android lying on its' back shows up - about 4 seconds)
3) Using the vol-up/vol-down button, select "Recovery Mode" on screen and press the power button
At this point the screen will go black. Wait about 10-13 seconds. The screen will remain black even though the stock recovery is now running. To get the screen to show the (stock) recovery menu,
4) press and release the Power & Vol-Up keys simultaneously.
The stock recovery menu should show now up. If it doesn't, try again. (After 60 seconds if you have done nothing, the tablet will reboot to the "normal" OS).
5) Use the on-screen menu to perform a factory reset (follow the directions on-screen for key usage).
Thank you so much for your response! The unanswered question is that I managed to put in the network info and what not during setup by hitting OK on the error and tapping the letter in the moment before the error popped up again. Not a fun task!
I've been trying to flash and after installing the google usb drivers it's still doing the <waiting for device> for infinity. I think I will have to bite the bullet and send it in. You saying that it might be a flash chip is kind of comforting because I think I might have bashed my skull against this issue forever before giving up!

flashed the wifi fix for the TMObile us version (from the X Note rom page)and was able to get out of the loop.
Update: *SOLVED*
I got a strange message that popped up on my phone this morning. It stated "It's gonna rain. Take a umbrella with you". It stayed on top everything else and wouldn't go away. I thought that it could possibly be one of my weather apps and got stuck, so I rebooted. After that point, it gets to the Google loading screen animation and never passes. After subsequent reboots, it does the same thing. I am able to get into TWRP recovery though.
Does anyone know what be causing this and/or how to remedy it? Might it be some type of malware? I have attached a screenshot of it.

Thanks for the link! I do have GO Weather installed, and I have no issue with getting rid of it. Although, I'm unsure how to do that since I can't boot. Any recommendations?

well, since you can boot in twrp you can do a factory reset.
safe mode is a better idea but i dont think you can boot into safe mode without starting the phone.
here are the steps but i dont think it will work so try to delete dalvik and cache from recovery, if that didnt work I think factory reset is the only option unless someone has a better idea

In the box that opens, touch & hold Power off.
You’ll see a “Reboot to safe mode” box. Touch OK.
Your device will start up in safe mode. Try using your device normally. Remember, you won’t be able to use any installed apps

I tried clearing the cache and dalvik earlier, along with deleting the GO Weather app files, but that didn't help. I thought about safe mode, but I don't see a way to do it without already being booted to Android.
What if I dirty flash the same stock 6.0 ROM I'm using? I'd like to keep files and apps intact, so I'd prefer to not perform a factory reset, but will if I exhaust other options.
I just realized that I never came back here to update on what happened. I wound up booting into TWRP recovery, connecting to my PC via USB, backing up any data that I needed, then factory reset. That took care of it. Luckily, that also cleared up some other minor, but annoying, issues I was having. Needless to say, I haven't been and won't be using GO Weather EX any longer.
