Update: *SOLVED*
I got a strange message that popped up on my phone this morning. It stated "It's gonna rain. Take a umbrella with you". It stayed on top everything else and wouldn't go away. I thought that it could possibly be one of my weather apps and got stuck, so I rebooted. After that point, it gets to the Google loading screen animation and never passes. After subsequent reboots, it does the same thing. I am able to get into TWRP recovery though.
Does anyone know what be causing this and/or how to remedy it? Might it be some type of malware? I have attached a screenshot of it.

Thanks for the link! I do have GO Weather installed, and I have no issue with getting rid of it. Although, I'm unsure how to do that since I can't boot. Any recommendations?

well, since you can boot in twrp you can do a factory reset.
safe mode is a better idea but i dont think you can boot into safe mode without starting the phone.
here are the steps but i dont think it will work so try to delete dalvik and cache from recovery, if that didnt work I think factory reset is the only option unless someone has a better idea
Make sure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.
In the box that opens, touch & hold Power off.
You’ll see a “Reboot to safe mode” box. Touch OK.
Your device will start up in safe mode. Try using your device normally. Remember, you won’t be able to use any installed apps

I tried clearing the cache and dalvik earlier, along with deleting the GO Weather app files, but that didn't help. I thought about safe mode, but I don't see a way to do it without already being booted to Android.
What if I dirty flash the same stock 6.0 ROM I'm using? I'd like to keep files and apps intact, so I'd prefer to not perform a factory reset, but will if I exhaust other options.
I just realized that I never came back here to update on what happened. I wound up booting into TWRP recovery, connecting to my PC via USB, backing up any data that I needed, then factory reset. That took care of it. Luckily, that also cleared up some other minor, but annoying, issues I was having. Needless to say, I haven't been and won't be using GO Weather EX any longer.

I installed a software update and it asked me to install it, so i did after that i rebooted and thats when it all happened.
The main reason I do not want to factory reset is because I have photos that I didn't get the chance to backup. So if there is a way to avoid factory resetting or a way I could somehow access photos, backup it up then factory reset.
My phone is stock, it has been rooted before though if that matters. As i turn the phone on LG logo shows up, straight after that i get text on the top left of the screen saying "boot cerfification verify" and other stuff then goes into a black screen and stays like that until I turn it off.
- Not able to get into download mode
- CAN GET INTO RECOVERY BUT I WANT TO AVOID IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

If you can get into recovery, you can export your photos to the computer by using adb pull.
There might be another way but this is how I know

stock recovery, yes.
Did You tried safe mode (search for it)?
Also try pushing buttons at random during boot
So basically my phone was stock but rooted and modded slightly with volume boost, camera mod, and the multi window mod as well. Other than that its all stock and never flashed a Rom on it. The phone ran smooth about 90% of the time but there were little quirks here and there that kind of bugged me. For example, every once in a while the screen wouldnt wake up after being locked via button or double tap. Wifi wouldnt respond randomly unless I reset my phone. Things of that nature, but anyhow I decided maybe hard reseting my phone might clear up some of these issues. I got into TWRP from AutoRec, and checked off everything except internal storage. I believe they were Davlik, Cache, System and obviously it didnt work out for me. I feel like me checking off the system is what did it because it wasnt considered a basic swipe at that point. Anyhow I cant get to recovery, download mode or anything of that sort. Everytime I hold down the power button it just resets and brings me back to the LG logo and just sits there while the led lights keeps rotating colors. Is my phone done for?
edit: Oh yea one last thing, I remember when I went to reboot it I somehow ended up being asked if I wanted to install SuperSU and I said yes. And than at that point it went to restart my phone and got stuck.

You wiped system. That's your rom. Don't wipe system unless you plan on flashing a rom. You should still be able to get back to recovery. From phone powered off state ( hold power and volume up when lg logo is on). Hold power and volume down, when lg comes on, release both, then hold both again. You should now be at the factory reset screen. Press power three times (it's not going to factory reset). You should be in recovery. From here, restore your backup. If you don't have a backup, you just found out the reason why you should always have a backup. If you don't have a backup, you're going to need to install a rom via adb or otg (assuming your recovery is up to date). You can also tot or kdz back to stock (wipes sdcard though).

nexus 7 4.4.4 f2fs
Greetings.
A few hours ago I wanted to install a ROM (Don't even remember which rom it was, so that's great) onto my phone.
I do what everyone should do and open up google and search for a tutorial.
Step 1 was something like "The most important thing you need to do is make sure you have a backup in case your phone soft bricks", so of course that I made a backup.
I download twrp manager, give it permissions and go to backup.
I leave the defaults checked thinking that it's probably good as it is and press backup. After a minute or so I notice that it won't boot up.
So I press the power button. It starts, nothing is wrong, after the loading screen however everything stops.
Everything from the UI app to the bluetooth app, to facebook twitter and youtube. Literally, "unfortunately *EVERYTHING* has stopped"
Even holding down the power button and pressing "emergency" mode brings up a message saying "emergencymodesomething has stopped"
I try getting to the boot menu, holding down power, home and volume up, I see the samsung screen and remove my finger from the volume up button, after a few seconds screen goes black, not responding.
From what I've seen in the "everything has stopped" type of power up, connecting it to my phone through USB does not seem to give any results.
Anything I can do that does not include buying a new phone, or anything at all for that matter?
Oh forgot to say it is a samsung galaxy A5, not the one with the fingerprint and whatever but an older version.
Trying to do a factory reset with adb won't work because it says "device unauthorized"
Anyone?
Well thanks for the help everyone... /s
Turns out my phone didn't just boot from recovery, just that the screen was black for some reason.
Followed a video done the exact thing and managed to factory reset it

Yes, he can also use stock recovery for wiping data
Phone was working fine yesterday. Went to sleep and woke up to the phone booted into recovery. Now I can't get it to reboot past recovery. Anyone know why this happened or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Check and see if system is mounted. Also are you sure that it didn't attempt an update last night?
The EXACT same thing happened to me this morning! Unfortunately I had to get to class before I could figure out how to fix it. When I get back home tonight I will try to get my phone to boot like normal and will tell you how I did it.

I have no way of knowing if it attempted an update last night. I was asleep. I tried restoring a nandroid backup from 8 days ago and it still won't boot past TWRP.
Help please! I'm at the Cleveland Clinic with my wife and just found out that my grandmother died today and have to drive back to Michigan tonight. I need a phone and Waze!

I'm sorry to hear, but glad I'm not alone in this. Hopefully we can figure something out.
Sorry about your lose. But click mount and see if system is checked. That's what happened to me before. Making sure system was checked let me boot back up.
If that doesn't work plug your phone into your comp if possible and check to make sure you still have everything on your phone. Another time I had accidently wiped everything and only way to get back up was using the kdz

I checked system under mount, rebooted and still won't go past TWRP.
Have you tried power on and volume down to go through the factory reset screens.
A bunch of us had this problem and it was because an update downloaded on it's own and the bootloader snoops it out and forces recovery to boot.
Just do the volume down + power button - as soon as you see the lg logo release power only then immediately re-press power and continue holding power and volume down until the factory reset screen pops up. Select yes and yes, (don't worry - if you have twrp recovery it can't reset). It will boot you into TWRP and I'm pretty sure it will delete the update files in fota folder.
In TWRP select reboot - system and it should boot normally like nothing happened.

Dude, I love you. I'm back! Just in time for my 3 hour drive home!
if this dosnt work
use twrp file manager to go find the fota and mis folders,
or boot into fastboot and send these comands
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase fota
data/mis
data/fota
something like this is its path.
data/etc/misc
data/etc/fota
this 2 spots have the update commands that cause twrp loop.
i have a help post in my rom with full walkthrough.
Bootloop into TWRP recovery
Thank you so much, I too was having a panic attack after I flashed a custom rom and it some how altered this and put me in a boot loop into TWRP. I had a couple of questions in regards to ROMS that have native tethering enabled. 1. Is there one that allows Native tethering enabled for sprint? and 2. Is there one that you can update the PRL and profile settings and also one that does use an APN that has DNS issues and a proxy that blocks certain sites? currently I downloaded the ROM that is on the Dirty Santa site its called LS997-deODEXd-signed and it has a hidden proxy that blocks DNS from certain sites also you cannot update.

Download one of my 11 roms ive currently put out.
they all work 100% as far as dns stuff
for tether you need to add the "dun" to your apns. There isnt currently a built in mod.
as well as using shortcut master to add the "dun" to your apns also gets you to where you can change them
prl and profile updates work also as well as fm radio, wifi calling, fingerprint, comfort view etc.

I had to do this again today. This is not good. How can we stop this? I rely on my phone as an alarm clock and this could really screw me if it happens again at night.
Have you frozen or disabled the apps that look for updates?
Supposedly this is what causes it. The bootloader looks for update files in the folders where updates are downloaded and if it finds a file there it reboots recovery.
You have to remove those files, ( I think it automatically deletes them if you go through the factory reset process with the volume down, power button sequence).
And you have to freeze or disable the update apps.
These are the apps I froze. The 3 near the bottom that are blue.
i did this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-access-to-fastboot-t3557328
Most bootloops are caused by an update file residing on the internal memory. It is not necessary to do all of the stuff in that post. You just need to do the volume down / power button trick to go through the 2 factory reset screens.

My HTC U Ultra suddenly froze past nigth, then it rebooted... and never came back, it won't go past the HTC logo over and over. I am not able to enter in recovery mode either, the only thing I can do is, by pressing both volume buttons and power, entering in what seems to be fastboot menu. In that state I can send the phone fastboot commands (no adb commands though) but If i try to wipe it it says "unable to do in s-on" or similar. I was pretty happy with this phone, and spent a few bucks in a new battery not two months ago.... anything I can do?
Thanks.
PS: I failed to state that the phone is stock, not unlocked or rooted.
If it has just happened out of the blue and you haven't been doing anything with your phone, have you tried a simple reset? (Press and hold volume down and power button until your phone vibrates - Usually about 20 seconds for me)
If not, and you are struggling to get into recovery etc, see if you can follow the method in the thread linked below if you are currently on stock rom!?
(Not sure if this would delete all your data or not, so perhaps only use as a last resort....)

Reset doesn't work, and the other procedure didn't work either.
If I leave it plugged to the charger, it will fall into an endless reboot loop. Sometimes (few) it will end up booting, but If i try to do something with the phone it doesn't respond and reboots again.
Thanks.
As you can send fastboot commands, can you flash a recovery.img (i.e. TWRP), and then wipe cache and dalvik/art to see if that helps, but if not, flash corresponding rom to that which you already have?

I tried that, too, but didn't work. If I do a fastboot devices it detects the phone, but if I do a fastboot getvar all it doesn't give me any information, it doesn't admit adb commands, when I try to flash a rom or a recovery, it fails, I suspect it needs to have the USB debugging enabled, but I can't enable it in this state.
As I said before, if I leave it plugged to the charger, It will randomly end up booting (it can happen in the third loop or in the 50th), but it will freeze or reboot again in few seconds.
Ah I see, if you haven't got USB debugging enabled then I am unsure how to help sorry. Have you got your media backed up, or stored on micro sd? If so, might have to bite the bullet and do a factory reset. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Maybe someone else would be able to help you further?

The data is not a problem, every important file has been backed up.
Regarding factory reset, since the device won't go to recovery, I can't see how can I do it.
-- Edit --
I noticed that when the phone is cold, those few times it boots, it lasts a little bit more (a matter of seconds) until it freezes again, so I tried to leave it in the freezer for a few minutes, and tried to boot it, and had enough time to do a factory reset. The factory reset worked, because now, when it boots, it goes straight to the intial setup, but keeps hanging after a few seconds. I suspect that the internal memory was somehow damaged, I don't think there is much left to do...
Is it possible to skip setup in order to get to settings and enable USB debugging so you can install a recovery?
If you can, then it might be an idea to try performing a repair of all the partitions and install a fresh ROM... Just to ensure it isn't a hardware issue!!

I can't see how to skip initial setup... and I don't have time enough to go through it, the phone will hang in 30 seconds or less. At this point, I really needed a working phone, so I bite the bullet and bought a new one... I will deal with the old one later, or I might sell it for parts.
Thanks everybody for the help.
No worries, enjoy your new phone
