Hey everybody,
Just wanted to let you guys know that I was messing around with the GPS setting trying to get my location to be correct on the first try with Google Maps. After tinkering, I found that if I unchecked the Google location Services box in menu>settings>location my location was read almost instantly and accurately! Bidding me farewell to Google Maps saying I was 50 miles away from where I really was.
Hope this helps for everyone, I know it did for some friends.
Let me know if it works, and good luck!
Cool. My Google maps tracked exactly where I was. Even the corner of the intersection(where is my house is located on the street)

I installed the zip file, after it took about a minute to lock on, and after it locks almost instantly. Is this normal to take so long first time locking on?
If you are using a custom ROM then yes it is. I know that from my experience, even after installing the zip I was getting a little lag and even getting the wrong location for about 3 second then it would lock on correctly. Doing what is mentioned in the original post fixed that problem for me entirely. Hope this answers your question!

This is the greatest info I have read regarding the GPS issues with the Thunderbolt! Such a simple fix but one that doesn't make sense at all. Regardless thanks a heap OP! A mod should sticky this information for all to see!
Seems to break location altogether for me when I disable Google location services. Can't get a fix in maps or the sense flip clock weather.

Great bud! Glad I could help!! I would love for a mod to sticky this, it is such an easy (odd but easy, lol) fix yet so many people absolutely hate that the gps won't work right. Hope more will see it and get their GPS working the way it should. Again glad I could help. That's the beauty of a community like this, between all of us, we can make so damn phenomenal phones! lol

Sorry about that, i figured it would be safe to call it that since there is clearly no true fix to this issue anywhere as far as i know at least. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. It worked for quite a few people I know so I thought i would try to help some people out.
Thanks. At least its more accurate now.

I think what we are seeing here is that the gps is not using agps at all. Proper operation would be the agps actually assisting the quicker lock. Instead the agps and gps are working separately and by disabling agps....the locks should still be slow no matter what.
It is for me anyway.
That said, standalone gps will always be more accurate.

Funny thing is, standalone how isn't even working, since when you turn off Google location services it shuts off completely. Also for me it seems to be attached to WiFi so if its off it says I'm within a 2 mile wide area...

No...that's how agps works. It will be within a few miles.
WiFi triangulation will always give quick locks.
Standalone gps does work, its just slooow.

I too was having the lag in getting a gps fix. My solution was:
1. Download GPS Status from the market
2. Under menu/tools select Manage A-GPS state
3. Press reset
4. back to menu/tools Manage A-GPS state
5. Press download
I now get instant fix.
Hope it works as well for you.

This just proves ephemeris data is not being downloaded, or used by the GPS automatically. I'm sure HTC will fix it in the future.
I hope, anyway.

Worked for me. Going from no lock to lock in under three seconds.
why is this in Development, nothing was developed, just a simple suggestion of changing settings which doesnt work for everyone.

See the other (long) thread about this ... it does NOT work, sadly, and nobody can say why it doesn't, nor is there a fix.
I have issues with Google maps navigation. It's stuck at the "looking for location".
I tried it on my 16GB and my wifes 8GB and got the same.
When I tried to navigate on Copilot it worked well so I don't think it's the GPS issue.
Anyone else has similar problem?
This may or may not help, I am just tossing it out as something for you to try. My google navigation app was doing the same thing. It turns out because I switched off location access (to see if that conserved power) it stopped google navigation from working properly. So check your location access settings and make sure you have them turned on.

GPS test locks onto a satellite with no problem.
Check Settings->Accounts->Google->Location Settings and make sure the "Let Google apps access your location" is ON.
Mine did the same thing, when I tried to re-plot the course whilst in a call.
It appears to only do it when in a call, too.
A reboot resolves the problem. Slightly annoying.

Lol. Thought so! It clears that setting.
It took some Ninja Googling to find out what was going on. Don't know why all the Location settings aren't located in the one place, it would make life a bit easier.

So I just jumped in to google search since updating to KK, spoke out OK GOOGLE, and nothing. Checked all my settings, made sure voice is english US, hotword detection is ON, but nothing....if you hit the microphone it wakes up and works, but it no longer has hotword detection any more for me.
Any one else?

It does not work like that, if you are on the goggle search app and say ok google it activates the voice command but if you grab the google launcher apk from here (http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-and-gpe-devices-apk-mirrored-for-all-others/ ) it might work (haven't tried it so don't know)

Sorry, I updated my last post with that info, yes I downgraded the app, didnt help. I cleared cache/data, didnt help, updated again, nothing.
I don't know what's wrong maybe someone else running 4.4.2 on t-mo can offer some help
It does work under googles 'voice search' app, but not the google search app.

Also running 4.4.2 on T-Mobile LG G2 (D801) and having the same issue. Worked before the 4.4.2 upgrade, now it doesn't. Still works if you click the mic icon and talk, but doesn't recognize "OK google" as a hotword anymore. Hopefully there will be a patch soon, as the update was only just released 5 days ago (not even OTA yet). If anyone knows how to fix, let me know as well. I have tried the same steps (uninstalling updates, clear cache, re-install updates). Checked settings and hotword is enabled. Thanks!
Make sure to enable Google Now and Hotword Detection.
Also make sure your system language is English (US).
Already checked that. Turned Google Now off and back on as well as hotword detection to see if it fixed it which it did not. I sent feedback to Google that is was not working via the send feedback button. Hopefully it is just a bug and will be patched soon.
Fix for hotword detection!
Go to system settings/General/Accessibility,
Turn off On-Screen Phone,
Google Hotword detection will work again.

And I thought on-screen phone was a really cool feature. Was looking forward to using it. Until they work together I guess I will just have to make sure I turn off on-screen phone when not in use. Thanks for the tip! You are a gem to the community.

Let me guess, you aren't using the nexus launcher, which is the only launcher that allows you to use 'OK Google' from main screen.

No, I'm not I was using the LG launcher that came with the rooted kitkat I just installed... I like the LG UI, so if it requires changing that, I'll pass. Thanks for the info.
However, I'm still confused as to why "on screen phone" doesn't show up in my settings/general/accessibility. That doesn't have anything to do with a launcher.

You know on screen phone doesn't come preinstalled for non-factory 4.4.2 t mobile G2s, right? You would have to install it yourself.

Probably sounds stupid here, but what do you mean non-factory 4.4.2?
I'm using the current OTA 4.4.2 that was just modified to allow rooting, other than that it's the same as anyone that updated OTA.
But again, if it's a required install to get, why would not having it stop the "okay google" from working on the google mic ribbon on the home page? If I click the mic it works fine.
Hey guys,
After updating my phone to NAE it sporadically looks for its gps coordinates even when I am not running any apps. When I click on App Info when its searching for the gps it is SystemUI. Also Google Plus is taking up the majority of my battery now.. 31%
Does anyone know why this is happening and if you guys have found a fix?
Thanks

You might check your gps settings. See what option is selected. I know you can use certain network settings. Some apps check for gps periodically. My guess with gplus is its checking for updates constantly. You might look at those settings.
