Ok I dont get what I am doing wrong when I flash a custom rom. Its seems the only rom I can flash is the original one toast had with the Super user permission. When i try to flash other roms they just loop on the boot screen. I dont know what I am doing wrong I wipe the cache like it says to do.
Am I missing a step or what someone anyone let me know.
this happens to alot of people. you are not alone!
Wiped cache and user data?
I have tried that I have wiped the first three options on the wipe screen and still loops with every rom but one
Clockwork recovery doesn't wipe dalvik properly from what I hear and that would cause a loo.
I have tried clockwork and and just rebooted my phone into recovery the manual way and that still doesn't do it.
Please put the topic of the thread in the Title. That's what it is for.
Question, you said the Rom that toast first supplied. Have you done nand unlock? Most roms now require the second part to obtain full root. Fresh, damage, etc all require both steps of toasts root.
Wipe cache and data...i use tom manager to get in recovery mode then I wipe everything from there..i don't use rom recovery to wipe...just to get in recovery...

Yeah did all that too. idk what to do maybe blow up and start over.
Starting fresh does work wonders sometimes. Do you have a custom recovery flashed to the partition? And have you also double checked to make sure you can successfully remount the system? (just to ensure your name is unlocked, not entirely sure what the problem could be)
So, how do I start from stratch??
Hmmm. Well you could flash a stock Rom with no root and start back at toast's part 1 of rooting..... but I am quite sure you could just repeat part 2 of toasts rooting method. thats what i'd do. Start at part two and redo all of that. Keep that recovery flashed, then do all the wiping and just drop a Rom on your card and install it through reboot recovery command.
Just an update I did the rootinng over this time i used the Simple Root .2. Thats the 1 2 3 click method and that worked for me so now i can flash roms thanks guys
Congratis if you need Rom help let me know. I'm not a dev but I'm a advance user since mytouch 3g came out

Thanks I am just looking for a good Rom to install. Is there anyway to save apps you download from the market place when switching to a new Rom? Tired of re installing all my apps when I switch roms.
titanium backup
Thanks, do you guys recommend any roms?
thats like asking someone what kind of pants they like
lol. best bet is to go to the dev forum and see which ones you like. Try one try em all
True I am stuck on one for now I really like the Fresh 0.5.3. Its trimmed down and seems fast. There where a couple out there that seemed to bogged down with all the graphics and apps they left on there.
Hi everyone!
I've had my X for about a month now and finally have some time to really play with it. You know, themes and such. But I have a bunch of stuff installed and want to start fresh for all this work.
I guess this is a bit like that itch when working with Windows that you want to reinstall every few months and start from scratch. I'm used to it for the PC, but this is the first time with a real smart phone, so I'm a bit lost.
What I'm looking for is maybe a step by step how to return to 'just out of box' stock, like after activation but before any real use. This way I can get a fresh Nandroid backup of that state in case anything goes to hell.
What would be the best way to accomplish this? Flashing the SBF and formatting the SDcard or wiping everything using the system options? I really haven't seen anyone describe this, so maybe this would help others by getting the steps written up.
Thanks for the help in advance!
Dan
yes man use the sbf and flash back and you can reformat ur sdcard to wipe everything. but why do you want to wipe everything?? if you need help send me a PM and i'll give u some links!
I think you want a factory reset, settings, privacy, factory reset. Be sure you sync your data with gmail in the accounts section of settings

Want a real refresh? Next time back it up. This phone is pretty much a computer. Make an image of your hard drive, before you do things to it.
Won't have to rely on SBF's, after that.

ITS GETTING ANNOYING!!,, The internet wont work, The market wont load and if im lucky i might be able to download an app,, Some of my widgets say "problem loading" I have to trash them and reload,, Some apps tend to force close,, And also the delay after turn on the screen is bout 2sec or so..

I would say to do a full wipe (cache, dalvik cache, data, and reset to factory setting) and reflash the rom & kernel combo of your choice. Also update your radios to the latest and then update your profile under menu\settings\system updates. This should get the phone up and running better and stop the need for constant reboots. As for the widgets saying "problem loading", I get that as well and I think it is due to moving the widgets in question to your sd card. If you put them back on the internal memory of the phone that shouldnt happen anymore. If you are worried about taking up to much internal memory with widgets just set up the aps2sd and you will be able to put more of your apps on the partioned portion of your sd card and save more internal memory. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps. I would like to save your EVO and not make it a chew toy for anyone!
I agree with adam, try a complete wipe, even flash calkulin's format all.zip (search for it) and flash the latest radios and re flash cyanogen. You'd be amazed at what horrors can come from not wiping the dalvik and cache. Speaking of which, try out amon ra recovery if you already haven't.
Sent from my hand.
I agree with Adam1422. It sounds like you need to do a full wipe and clean install. Do not use Titanium/Launcher/ADW/anyotherprogram backups. Save files like pictures, music, documents off your SD and format the card. Do not reuse settings or data from programs. Go into it like you just bought the phone. That will probably clear up all of your issues.
Are u using any custom kernels. Could be a more have or less have issue

Not if you do your due diligence, read up on how to do it and then perform the steps carefully without rushing. We were all n00bs once, my friend. Sure there's some tension when rooting for the first time, but there's one hell of a rush when it works. You'll be fine.

Not that I can think of, man. Good luck. Come back if you need help.
you are in the right forum to fix your phone...
it is not the phone.. but I agree with others.. you need a fresh setup done.
or even try a different ROM...
the hard part has been done for you.. ROOTing...
you need to go learn about the ROM you like... and how to install it.
learn about: wipe, recovery, nandroid backup, ROM, ...
this needs to be learned anyways for your life with EVO, because you wanted it rooted.
ps.. to fix this.. you are going to loose all your data and put your phone almost back to stock form. dont worry.. contacts and calendar should be backed up to google if you told evo to do so.

Where can i direction to do the procedure?? whats the first step??
here is a good place to start reading:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html
I would like for you to try a new ROM... that is Sense ... so that you are able to use it more to what the EVO was.
this ROM is stable and has everything working:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
once you have done one Flashing of a ROM.. and working..
you can easily do others as you find interest in them.
more side reading for afterwards:
there is the rooting procedure that I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
since you are already rooted.. this not needed.
but you should read the first page.. for your knowledge
here is the main forum for evo on xda.. for development. lots for you to research on new things for evo:

Definitely make sure before you go flashing ROMs and stuff you do a nandroid backup.
Step-by-step instructions for how to do this, plus flash ROMs and stuff, can be found here:
http://htcevorooting.x10.mx/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
Ask your friend what method he used to root your phone, plus check which recovery manager you're using (reboot your phone into recovery, it should say which manager it is. If you're still running CyanogenMod there should be an option to do this if you choose reboot instead of shutdown when holding the power button.)
So I have been trying to get multiple roms to work and it seems as only the TouchWiz roms worked for me (getting LTE) Jellybean wouldn't let me connect to any LTE but gave me data.
So I tried to do a few wipes, I deleted my backups (like an idiot) and now I'm stuck with just being able to get into TWRP.
I get into TWRP factory reset and wipe everything then do a internal wipe and install a rom the rom installs but when i go to reboot the rom it gets stuck at the Samsung Galaxy s4 screen and won't move.
What do I do?
I just want to have a jellybean rom...
I can get into TWRP
How long have you let it boot? The first boot can take a long time.

You need to read about TWRP before using it. You should not be wiping "everything" with it.

yeah i can i never used odin before.
if i do this will i be able to re-root? or will it update me to mf3?
EDIT: i just let it sit there and got my old recovery back. im on tw 4.2.2 goldeneye. let me check if i can reboot it without it getting stuck.
EDIT2: ok i just let it reboot and it now reboots fine..
I have read 3 of your posts, you really need to start reading before you go any further...if your phone boots on 4.2.2 GoldenEye, stop there until you find more information on what you are trying to do. If you don't you will for sure be using Odin soon, may want to read up on that also...
Good luck.
BTW, you do not need to make a different thread for every question, go back to one of the threads you started, and ask ALL of your questions there...
Guys,
This is driving me nuts. I want to update from PAC 4.3 rom to custom 4.4 (probably purity rom). I have been looking aroung for a tutorial to ensure i dont miss any steps and bugger up the phone (call me a newb) but i just cant, for the life of me, find a tut for that.
The devOP suggests your normal Wipe Data> wipe cache> wipe dalvik> Flash ROM> flash Gapps> flash Kernel and reboot.
Whats confusing me is
1. whether i also need to flash radios?
2. whether I need to be on CWM (coz some threads saying TWRP wont work)
3. whether i need to do do anything else out of the ordinary.
Im not one to start a thread unnecessarily, believe me I have searched the forums, and gotten answers too, but I just cant seem to reach a unanimously agreed way to do it. Would love to have a Tutorial, but for the meantime if someone could please help me by just clearing up my doubts.
Thanks a lot.:good:
P.S. i really didnt know where to put this. Moderators, hope its okay.
Just try it out. if you flash it like any other ROM, there is nothing to worry about. If your signal is acting up. Fastboot flash the new radio. If it doesn't flash, use CWM instead of TWRP.

If you make one beforehand that is.
That's actually a valid point there, since I don't know if the 2 backup types are compatible (although I would suspect that they are) make a backup after you flashed the new recovery as well. Just to be safe.
Good luck, and enjoy 4.4!
