Windows 8.1 won't recognize my rooted sgs4 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have Sacs v6, i plug my phone in via USB, and the computer beeps for a second, then icon disappears...ive been able to open the folder to the phone for like 15 seconds, then it disappears again. brand new dell, with 8.1 already installed. any thoughts, its really frustrating...dell was useless, as was geek squad from best buy...come on guys, i know you all are smarter than them folks...

Have you tried downloading the usb drivers from the samsung support site and installing them?

to be honest, i cant seem to find them, either im terribly ignorant, or maybe someone could point me in the right direction
im chatting with windows now on livechat, he cant seem to help either

Try this: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SPH-L720ZKASPR
GS4 Stock Rooted MJA 4.3,Philz Touch CWM,HotSpot Mod,Transparent Weather Widget,8SMS(Stock Messaging,KitKat)

Thats weird that it doesn't recognize it. Mine would always pick up my rooted gs4 on windows 8 and 8.1

I'm about to sell my Epic and get an Evo

My HTC Hero was a dream to mod. I plugged it in, ran some ADB, and it worked like a charm. I flashed whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, and it worked fine with my computer which is running 64bit Win7.
Now the Samsung Epic... this is disappointing. ADB doesn't work any more. It says there are no devices attached and I can't mount my SD Card through the phone to my computer. I can't get the drivers to work properly. I've tried reinstalling the "proper" ones from the clockwork mod thread and also reinstalling the ones that windows update wants to install.
Nothing works. Modding this phone is a nightmare and now it doesn't work with my computer at all. ADB used to work, kind of. Now it doesn't even detect the phone.
Samsung did a bad job. I love the screen and the blazing fast hardware, but the difficulty with modding is ridiculous.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm game. But if I can't get full control over my phone via command prompt like I could with my Hero, I'm going back to HTC before next week.

Every time someone on here says that ADB doesn't work it has ended up being their computer that is the problem. Either they didn't install the drivers correctly or there is something else wrong. I suggest you try it on a different computer. The majority of us have never had a problem with ADB and as an ex-Hero user I think the epic works just as well over command line.

I'm working on getting a fresh install of 32bit WinXP, but I don't see why it doesn't just work on my Win7 install. I've tried it on XP before with similar (non-working) results, but I'll give it a foolproof trial and try to troubleshoot if it's the computer end or the phone end.

ADB worked on my Win 7 64bit laptop when I was rooting my Epic. Had 0 problems.
PEBKAC imo.

Ahh.. Why blame Samsung for having a phone that that is "difficult to mod". They never wanted you mod it, funny how you mentioned the awesome screen and "blazing fast hardware" in the same paragraph though, but still call it a bad phone.
ADB works just fine if you install the correct drivers.
Not insulting your decision to choose the Evo, they are both awesome, but the Evo won't save you from not knowing what you're doing.
PEBCAK.
First google search of the day = pebkac; good one!

But maybe the Evo will save me from this driver fiasco. I've tested the phone on WinXP and Ubuntu now, and ADB works on both. But for whatever reason, the drivers on Windows 7 are not working. I've uninstalled them and reinstalled drivers from three or four different venues now.

Install PDAnet.. pick the appropriate device, then you can have full control over your "blazing fast hardware" P.O.S.

It did with the Hero. My experience with HTC drivers has been much better than Sammy drivers so far.

I get that now, I was in the process of installing a new OS to test this. I blamed the phone at first, before I got around to testing it properly, but now I know where the problem lies.
I'm not blaming the phone anymore. It seems to work fine (besides the sd card mount, that will only work on linux). I'm blaming Samsung for their Windows 7 drivers. You can throw acronyms around all you want, but I think the problem is actually somewhere in how Samsung develops for 64 bit.
Also, I can praise the phone's hardware and curse the software. That's perfectly logical, by the way.

Thanks for your anecdote. Unfortunately, my setup is not working the same as yours. If you'd like to be helpful and tell me how you installed the working drivers, I'd appreciate it.
to OP, what you should know is, that even without any modding, and running on 2.1 , my epic will always be WAY faster than any evo.
now imagine how fast it is for me now, with my Quantum froyo...
I had the same problem with my phone not showing up on the computer, i know this may sound stupid but it works. I have 2 usb ports in the front of my computer and thats what i tired using for the phone it wouldn't work, so i plugged it in the back of the computer and now it works fine shows up everytime on my computer.. So i just bought a extra usb cord off ebay and have it constantly plugged in the back of the computer.

I agree, that's why I bought the Epic in the first place. I just wish I could ADB into it with my Windows 7 machine that I'm using 99% of the time. The posters in this thread don't seem to understand that I like the phone, I just don't like the way it interacts with my computer.
Maybe their installation of 64 bit windows 7 can ADB fine, but that doesn't help me any. I wish I could get some help instead of being called an idiot. From my experiences, these Samsung drivers are worthless.
Phone good, drivers bad.
my intention was not to insult, just to convince you to keep it, and try to find the solution, which is what youre doing. wish i could help

Haha, not to worry, you've been one of the most helpful in this thread. It's nice to be reaffirmed that my choice to go with a Samsung phone for the first time wasn't a mistake.
I'm just put off by all of the suggestions in this thread that the problem lies between the chair and keyboard instead of anything helpful about how to get these absurd drivers ironed out. Never had problems with HTC drivers, just sayin'.
You can get drivers to install better with one of 2 ways:
1) Use device manager to go to manually load the drivers in the 16_Shrewberry folder
2) Install Kies..even if it doesnt work it seems to install the drivers better
-------------
also if your using a desktop..back ports are more efficient.

That's what I'm talking about. Awesome information, I'll do some driver wiping and see how these methods work out from a clean slate. Thanks a lot.

Good point! My 2 front USB ports are useless for connecting my Epic as well.
I installed the Samsung drivers for win 7 x64 from Sammys site and no driver issues here. Maybe try uninstalling the drivers you already installed and start from scratch?

I just got that step done through the driver program that Samsung installed, next I'm going to delete every trace in the Device Manager and try again with gTen's new methods.

[Q] Can't get Nexus 4 (broken digitizer) to control on my computer

Hello guys,
This is my first post in here although I come to the forum from time to time to stay updated about new stuff. I hate to post this but I'm quite desperate now.
I own a Nexus 4 which I rooted and unlocked with no problem at all, a few days ago it fell off of my pocket and the screen is smashed now. Although it's still working: I can see what's going on in it, the digitizer isn't working so I can't really do anything with the device.
I really need to control the Nexus 4 on my computer (through a VNC I guess) to do some last things with it, but I can't get it to work. I'm running TeamWin Recovery (touch version) and last stock ROM if I remember correctly.
So the thing is: all I can do is reboot in recovery (in where I can't do anything, since it's a touch version) or turn on the phone as usual. If I'm in recovery, I can connect with ADB and use Android Screen Monitor to connect and explore my files (but since the device is OFF, just in recovery, I can't see the screen or control it). If I turn the device on, I can't ADB anymore, I always get a device not found error.
I tried with several drivers and different VNCs with no luck at all. I managed to install some VNC-servers apps pushed to my Nexus 4 using Google Play on the computer, but I can't open them (obviously).
I don't care how to do it, I just need to see and control my Nexus 4 on the computer knowing that I can't use the screen on the phone at all.
I've read for hours and tested stuff for days, with no luck at all, I hope you can help me on this.
PS: The device is connected to my WiFi network and also by USB, but I can't open any of the vnc-server apps with the phone and can't get adb to work so I'm a bit clueless here. Probably there is a very easy way to do this and I'm just messing around.
Well, thanks in advance.
1. Since your phone is rooted, use the tool kit and make a full backup to your Computer.

[Q] Broken screen - best way to get pics?

Howdy folks! I broke the touch screen on my totally stock, non-rooted G2 (Sprint). Touch no longer works, so I got a replacement through insurance. I would really like to get the pics off the broken one so I don't lose them. I've never plugged it into my PC (windows 7) before, so don't have any drivers etc installed. Everything about the phone is stock, including recovery. What's the easiest way to get to the pics? I really appreciate your help.
You can try to download the lg pc suite software (can be found on lg's site) and see if it will be able to back up your phone. This will work if your phone still had the lg software selected by default when plugged in. This way will only work if there was no lock on the lock screen.
If not then plug it into a computer and see if it recognizes it as a removable media device. There you can navigate using explorer to find your pics in the "DCIM" folder.
Those are your best two options. You could also try going to your local corporate Sprint store and see if they are of any help if you aren't able to do any of this. They will probably be of no help, but maybe you'll get someone there who knows what they're doing.
It's always a good idea to back up your files. Check Google plus and see if your pictures maybe got uploaded. I know there was a bug going on that would upload pictures to the cloud without some people knowing/understanding why.
I lost all my pictures a couple years back from a defective sd card. Since then I have everything backed up on my laptop, external hard drive, thumb drive, and the cloud. Sometime it's just better to be safe than sorry.
All the best.

Thanks! I should I have mentioned that I actually already tried all 3 of your suggestions. LG's software doesn't connect successfully to the broken phone, though there is no password for the lock screen. When I plug in the USB, the phone seems to be in "charge only" mode and I can't change that since the screen is broken. And the Sprint store was, as you predicted, not very helpful. I'm actually out of town right now, so I will try my normal Sprint store when I get back home to see if they are more helpful. It also appears that LG's software allows you to connect to the phone via wifi, so when I get home and my phone connects to my home wifi network, maybe that will work.
Thanks!
It only works when you have turned on wifi storage...
Only way you can recover pics is that you replace screen on the phone
Give it to me and i'll send your pics once i repair it : )

I'd gladly take you up on that except that the insurance company will charge me $900 for the replacement they sent if I don't send them the broken one within the next few days
Ouch that's bad... Wth they need broken one? It's weird.
What if you ask them to leave it with you, because you have important data on phone?
Don't really know any other way to help you. I'll try to search some info in google , but...
I know how bad it is to lost some important "memories", thats why i always back up them in my pc

PROBLEM - iropro® 8 Table Windows 10

Hi All
Has anyone had any luck updating this device to windows 10.
I have it installed, got every driver installed but the touch screen is a mess clicks seem to be a mile away from your press, rotation is the reverse (screen upside down), plus the windows button doesnt work and just clicks the centre of the screen.
IRO PRO 8-inch-windows-8-tablet
Cheap and cheerful device for my son, which I cant roll back to windows 8.1 (deleted recovery to install).
Can anyone help me out, so close to getting this working, and it must work because IROPRO 8-windows-10-tablet
But I've had no luck contacting them for drivers, and Silead who produce the screen are just as quite.
Does anyone have this device and can share there drivers?
Long shot but this felt like the best place to ask.
I already made it
Installed win 10, and everything works exept both cameras.
If the thread is still actual I will tell you how (where to take the appropriate drivers).

Bricked..Where to send for jtag service.. or does anyone wanna give it a shot?

D801 bricked... I know I could spend days and nights and possilby get it figured out but I think it's pretty bad this time and I'd like to send it for service, I googled it and found a few places at around $40 for jtag service. I know the LG G2 isn't worth a great deal these days but I like to keep my old phones for sentimental value for some reason. ANYWAY.. if anyone can recommend a good place to send it in the US .. or if anyone is an lG G2 pro I'll likely be spending $40 ish plus shipping. I'd like it just back to stock 5.0 preferably rooted, ideally a nice reliable marshmallow though. >>>>>>> So the details on what I did. Rooted back in '14 .. installed pacman rom(5.0).. used for 2 years as my office phone without issue.. a few days ago I thought I'd get Marshmallow on it .. downloaded a MM rom and a bootstack(which I think was the problem).. after it rebooted it showed the LG boot screen then goes to a black screen and sits indefinitely. I can boot into recovery but it's stock recovery not twrp... just a white screen that says it's gonna delete everything if I continue.. when I do continue it just goes back to that black screen. Also it will boot into download mode but just for a few seconds then proceeds back to that black screen. Computer recognizes it as a bunch of hard drives and wants me to format them. Thats about it.
If anyones interested in trying to repair or can recommend somewhere to send let me know... I'll only send to someone on XDA that's been a member for a while.
thanks
