[Q] How to install Cyanogen Mod on the LG G2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, i got my G2 today and have spent hours upon hours trying to get this to work.
This is where im at so far,
I have the international version of the G2-d802
I have used the ioroot10 file to root the phone.
Downloaded ROM manager from the play store and attempted to flash clockwork recovery mod.
It says it is complete, but then when I select reboot to recovery I just receive the dead android with the red exclamation mark, with the words " No Command " written underneath.
What am I doing wrong?
It all seemed straight forwards until I tried to attempt it myself, I've looked everywhere for answers and have come up with nothing.
P.S: I am a complete noob when it comes to this. I have seen some methods involving adb or something, seemed too complex, and I figured using some apps and a simple batch file would be enough to get this to work, apparently I was wrong.

Try the recovery images in the dev. section. I don't think the ROM Manager version is loki-fied.

download Flashify from Play Store to push custom recovery ... i've done it that way ... fast n efficient

No offence, but. I have no idea what you just told me to do or how to even go about doing it. Could you please elaborate?

Download flashify From play store
Find twrp or cwm recovery from the developer section of xda.
Use flashify to flash this recovery

I thank you guys for trying to help me, but literally all the stuff you are linking and the things you are saying dont make any sense to me.
I need a step by step, simplified guide on what I am supposed to be doing,
I downloaded flashify, downloaded some sort of recovery-clockwork.img file and used flashify on it, rebooted then just got some small text in the top left corner :/
please help me, because I honestly think the lg's varient of andoid is utter ****e.

I haven't used flashify so I can't help you there, but the second link I posted is an auto installer for recovery.

Whats Wrong with my fone? someone please help

i hope im posting this in the right place, ive never really messed with forums before, but anyways
ive done everything there is to do to get a custom rom on my streak (StreakDroid) including the whole flash recovery, when i do that it all seems like its working, but when i go to where you are supposed to install the streakdroid (when you turn your phone on with both volumes ect) soo when i get the screen with the blue letters, its tottally different it says something like "insert a SD card containing an update file(/sdcard/update.pkg and the only choice it gives me is press up on the volume to turn device off. BTW i did already had the streakdroid on my sd card. someone please HELP me
if this helps i have a Dell Streak from AT&T
V 2.2
Baseband Ver. 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Ver. GAUSB1A135331
Build 15697
Thanks
Sounds like this might help.
You may also want to read this.
i already know all of this, but thanks for trying, i cant root it eather, i forgot to mention, it keeps failing, and ive tryed all versions of oneclick
Do this - you do not need root to use that method and is you read the previous links I posted you will figure out how to use StreakMod Recovery even if you aren't rooted.
I got same problem when I installed custom rom at very first time from stock 2.2.
Do this if still can boot to stock rom..
1) Rooting with Gingerbreak.apk , this will work..
2) After rooting done, use R.E and change one file in the system as this file automatically blocked custom recovery when reboot so your problem happened... your DS5 still booted on stock recovery even already flashed StreakMod recovery...
Read this.
3) After modifying one system file then flash StreakMod recovery then you can continue....
Hope this can help you.
i tried that too, but like ive said when i first made this post, when i go into streakmode (when i turn it on with both volume bottons ect) and go into mode after that all i get is something like for an emergency restore blah blah , idk whats wrong, ive done the streakmod right and still,
i have att 2.2 rom it wont allow me to install other source apks
Regarding the issues faced by the OP on this thread:
1. If you are seeing mention of an update file when trying to access StreakMod Recovery, then you let the Streak boot regularly once you installed StreakMod, rather than immediately booting into StreakMod Recovery. If you let the Streak boot normally, StreakMod Recovery gets overwritten. If you're trying to install StreakDroid, then you need to hold down volume down and up as soon as you finish flashing StreakMod Recovery via Fastboot to use it.
Custom ROMs do not have the problem with recovery images being overwritten.
2. The recommended method of rooting a Streak is to flash StreakMod Recovery and then flashing Superuser.zip through it. One click rooting methods are not 100% reliable. The OP is attempting to flash a custom ROM, which doesn't require flashing Superuser.zip. It DOES require flashing StreakMod Recovery.
3. AT&T was supposed to permit sideloading on newer AT&T ROMs. Go to Settings>Applications and make sure "Unknown Sources" is checked. If the option is not present in the ROM, then either the ROM must be changed or a PC application such as the Sideload Wonder Machine must be used.
OP, you were attempting to change the ROM to StreakDroid. Did you change your mind?

[Q] New to putting roms on phones

Hey guys I am new to the whole idea of putting a rom on my phone I am using the Sprint Galaxy S4 and I am not the most tech savy person in they world. I have tried installing Goomanager and following the instructions of pressing install open recovery script. When ever I do that i get a message saying "No Recoveries were found for your device" I have seen some other posts about this but like I mentioned I am new to this whole process and the other posts were a little over my head. Any suggestions on how I can fix this easily? Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, another noob so be nice I followed all the directions on how to use GooManager, but it says "no recoveries were found for my device". I recently got the OTA 4.3 update, so I wonder if that is what is causing it to not recognize my device?
I saw on one of the links that I can use Odin to install it as well? I used that to root my Sprint Galaxy S4 originally. Do I just use the same PDA button to select the twrp file that I downloaded to my laptop? And then I just follow the same directions as rooting (to plug it in, wait for it to turn yellow, hit start)? After Odin is done, do I just click on the reboot recovery (so I can install CM)? Any and all help is MUCH appreciated! Really don't want to brick my device so want to be careful and follow ALL directions. However, I've been googling this for the last 2 hours and having found any posts that speak to why GooManager doesn't recognize my device like all the posts and videos say it should

i had this same problem. what I did was download ROM manager from play store and have it install the newest clockwork mod. Then i looked for the flashable version of TWRP (its on this site somewhere, if i could find it i would link it) and then boot into clockwork mod recovery and flashed the TWRP from there which will overwrite CWM. Im sure the more experience guys will have an easier answer but i ran into this same problem like 10 times in the past few days and this worked every time.

Stuck in Recovery with Unauthorized ADB Device

For some reason I downloaded OTA KK while rooted on Digital Dream. I am currently stuck in CM v6.0.4.4 Recovery. I have tried everything that I can personally think of and everything I can think of googling. Before someone says to check USB Debugging, I cannot as I am in recovery and can't get to that setting. When ever I get in the ADB command prompt it tells me that my device is Unauthorized, I can't get into download mode, can't fastboot because whenever I restart phone it goes straight to LG Logo for a min then recovery.
I did a backup right before I did the OTA and when I went back to it and restored it brought me right back to recovery. No matter what I do I get back in recovery. The only thing I can do is Sideload, I don't think sideloading ROMS will work since my backup didn't. Would it be possible to sideload TWRP over my CM so I can do the command from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 thread?
I am totally stuck and can't think of anything else. If I could do the step above I know it would work but I just can't get it to do it.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I think I perma-bricked my G2. ;(
Next step I guess will be to let the power drain? I read somewhere that might help, not sure how though.
Hi i had the same problem this helped me and found a file called cmw_bootloop_fix.zip and i sideloaded it and it worked great hope it helps not sure if it is carrier specific.

There are a couple things you can do here.
1. Try re-downloading the boot.img and reflashing with flashify
2. Try flashing the boot.img with Odin3
3. Restoring your phone with Kies http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61977268&postcount=14
I rooted my phone and had to restore with kies three times before i got my wifi working. This is only if I switched to SuperSU, if you stay with kingroot, you wont have the wifi issue.
Help help help!
I did this and now my wifi won't turn on!! AT ALL
so the root metod its safe??? now there is another metod done from between Android using terminal emulator to switch from kingroot to chains fire super su! you have to be fully rooted to be able to work on terminal emulator.
but the root metod for sm g530az its safe?
flashing the stock kernel, do you click boot image or recovery image?

I got the root to work with kingroot, but didn't do the 'optional' SU part, but now I want to.
Can anyone tell me what the step is with that zip file? do I download it directly to the phone? use Flashify? if I'm using flashify, do I flash it as a "boot image", a "recovery image" or a "zip file" ?

Going to try to blow the dust off my builduntu box and see if I cant get us a recovery going for the cricket version, I usually like twrp but now that cwm has touch as well could go that route....is their a custom recovery built for the other variants at all yet....if so then forking those repos would be a good starting point, should only take minor edits to get it working proper for us.

I already built twrp for this phone, but as you found out, the damn security checks prevent the use of it. This is my device tree, can't remember if I pushed my last commits and I dont have what I had, due to a hdd failure.

So can you get a custom recovery working for this device? I have tried many ways but they all ended with my flashing stock img. twrp or cwm would be fine by me. Okay I think we should put our heads together to try and kick this lockdown to the curb, things I have tried so far...I found that on some other variants they have the option within their settings/developer settings menu to enable oem unlock which is what we are needing to be able to flash custom recovery, I have replaced my settings.jar and settings.odex with theirs with no luck the option is still not showing up for me, but I think it may be the right direction into getting that to show up, the question i am now posing is this. Are the checks in place simply reading carrier info to allow/disallow this option? If so would we possibly be able to change the build.prop or other settings with our newly found root access to trick the device into giving this option? If that is the case then we need to get as much info from the stock devices that have that option as possible and maybe try swapping certain files out with theirs to get the option back and/or editing certain files on our own device to get it to show up. It only takes one g530AZ with unlocked bootloader to share the boot.img i would think. I had thought about flashing another boot.img or aboot.img from another variant but I am pretty concerned about brickage although I think it could be recoverable as long as one can get back into download mode. Has anyone zeroed out the download partition to see if a fastboot is hidden behind it?

Only thing I have done Is zeroed out the sec partition which caused non problem however it did no good either....also playing around with the databases and able to change some options just not the one in wanting yet...I work a ton son my freetime is limited but if anyone that has a different variant that could share their system apps primarily their settings all and databases and xml associated with it is really like to look through them.

Assuming that the ROM is still there, you can dirty flash the ROM zip over it, and see if it works. There's no harm in trying that.
But "No OS Installed" simply means that your /system or /boot parition are not detected (means, they are empty). Now of course, the last resort is to flash the ROM all over again.

You need to provide more information. Are you on the stock ROM or a custom ROM? Stock recovery or TWRP? Had you made any changes to the device recently?
Someone please help. I just rooted my 6P. Did a little bit of doing. Phone would never boot just the round circles. So went into TWRP and tried to wipe to start fresh, not it says no OS installed. I have no ROMS's on the phone. No boot images. Been a while since I've done this. Really need help on this one. Thanks.
Download the dp3 , boot into bootloader, connect to PC run installer script after you unzip the factory image " flash all" sit back and wait for phone to reboot.

It's that simple.
Hey thanks a lot. Couple things, and I apologize in advance for not knowing this already.
1) what's dp3
2) how do I run installer script?
I know I shift right click and open a cmd window within fastest - where I'll unzip the file - and I know how to get the phone into Bootloader.
Again, sorry for asking for simple explanations.

Download any ROM ( like pure Nexus) and gapps
You can use USB otg to flash the ROM using twrp or transfer the ROM file from your PC to your phone in twrp (it supports mtp)
Simply flash ROM and gapps and viola

Download the required ROM and gapps, connect your phone to pc , type in google, Mini adb and fastboot, a page on XDA itself will come, download it, its small and install.
Then copy the ROM and gapps package to the location of the installation of the application.
Now open your recovery and tap on adb sideload, and swipe(twrp)
Go to your PC, open adb application a cmd will appear, type adb devices, it will start a daemon then will give you your device number, a number should appear. Then type
Adb sideload """"name of your ROM package""".zip
It will start installing, wait for few minutes.
Do the same for gapps
Adb sideload " name of gapps package ".zip
Then reboot
Its fixed

It's that simple.

Why are you telling him to install the Developer Preview? He wouldn't want that unless he's actually asking for it, which he isn't.

Ok, I'm gonna tackle this tomorrow. Any recommendations on a good ROM and Kernel (Verizon). I made nice donations long ago to Franco and ROM Manager.
Thank again, everyone!

Please continue the discussion in the other thread that you posted this question in, as I said, let's not create duplicate discussions.

Developer preview 3 is a Android N preview and it is very fluid, battery life is good on stock and reason I recommend this because it is simple to do, gives you good options within the ROM and is good overall but that's just my opinion.

Dude, I'm trying to help. Beats what you said, you going detective mode on him while I'm just giving him an easy solution. Read a book or something

Lol. Maybe you missed the title under my name.
The dev preview isn't what he asked for, it isn't an easy solution, it isn't easy to come back from if he doesn't like it, it isn't even remotely what he needs. What he's looking for is a simple way to get his phone booted up and working again (a very simple request), and what you're suggesting is he install a beta OS (a complicated "solution").
If you really have a problem with a moderator requesting that a member posts in one place at a time (as per our rules), then I'm gobsmacked. If you'd care to look at the advice I gave him in the guide thread where he also posted you'd notice that I gave two solutions that:
A) Actually address the simplicity of his problem.
B) Give two simple, easy to execute, solutions that are the most common solutions you'll ever see anyone give a member in his situation. Solutions that don't involve having to install a developer preview that he never asked for.
I get that you're trying to help him, but the "solution" you provided him isn't right for his situation at all. There was no need to become defensive and aggressive when this was pointed out.

Then reboot
Its fixed

I'm copying files over to my Nexus now using MTP from TWRP. Can't I just copy evrything over and flash that way? Man, this seems so much more complicated than back in the day. Thanks.
Crap, wrong thread! Sorry! Got confused.
