I'm not asking for an ETA, but does anyone know if developers are working on a KitKat ROM for the Verizon G2? I'm looking at the Moto X because 4.4 is already confirmed, but if the G2 gets a KitKat ROM, I might have to rethink my decision.

Lol. Yeah, I've counted a grand total of 1 ROM made for the (non Dev Edition) Verizon X.

Development has been at a stand still since 4.4 was announced and thats a good thing, it means 4.4 roms are on the way for the G2. This always happens when there is a new version of android on the way and the fact that we have seen very little activity lately is a positive sign :good:

It was accidentally leaked by a French telecom that 4.4 would rollout Nov-Dec. LG denied it and it was removed from the telecom's upgrade list. Currently, LG is taking a stance that there is no date yet.

The official Motorola Android Update page has been updated and it lists the VZW Xoom's Jelly Bean update as Q4 2012. It claims it'll be an upgrade to "Android 4.1.1" but I highly doubt that. I guarantee it'll be 4.1.2/JZO54K.
Owning a Verizon Xoom and a Verizon Galaxy Nexus is so frustrating from an update standpoint. Even though updates come directly from Google, Verizon's testing and approval requirement takes forever. We know Verizon had been testing the JRO03H ROM (the same 4.1.1 ROM that the WiFi-only model got) as far back as early August. Obviously they couldn't get it approved before 4.1.2 came out, so I'm sure now they're testing 4.1.2 instead. Regardless, assuming Verizon can't find anything to ***** about with the update, we should have it soon.
Once the update rolls out, I'll update the first post here with a link to the OTA file so we can all flash it manually and not have to wait.

I don't like any of the custom ROMs available for the Xoom. They are all full of customization and features that I don't need or want. Plus I get squeamish about custom kernels written by people who have little to no documentation on the hardware. The stock ROM is simple, clean, and stable. As a daily driver, it's perfect for me. Less is more.

well, your opinion is yours opinion I prefer custom ROMS over the Stock (just don't know if will keep thinking like this after I get a HTC One X). Even Brazilian Stock ROM coming with some apps very useful (like the best file manager I used, quick office HD for free...), I think Stock ROMs are too slow and don't satisfy my personal needs of development

Yeah see I am a developer in my day job so I have no interest in doing it outside of work. I have my Android devices to use them in my day-to-day life and for me, the stock ROMs work best for that.

I am with you on ROM preference, Custom ROM run out of system space and stock don't. I turn my verizon 3g into a WiFi only for a pure jb experience. When the mood hit me I use cm10 for a custom feel.
On the bright side, we are already in the fourth quarter, so it could be any day.

We are moving directly to 4.4. I dont like to discuss timing. It just puts a lot of stress on the team, and there is always a chance we find something which delays us a bit.
Rest assured, we are on it. You have seen the speed with which we are moving as a Google company, that shall continue.

I'm somewhat optimistic about it because they were relatively prompt in sending out an update for the camera. Not their fault that some of the carriers dragged ass.

They have broken the applications apart from the os and put them in the play store. Consistently updated their applications. Reached out to the developers in the community for suggestions. Have addressed a new concern of mine with the announcement of skipping 4.3. Saying that they haven't done anything is a bit of a stretch.

I went from an OG Droid (amazing, started my love for android), Droid 2 (meh), Droid 3 (meh), Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S4, now the Moto X. I kind of feel the way I did about the OG Droid with the Moto X. If Moto keeps pushing out quality phones like the X, with fairly timely updates, I'm going to stick with them. Hopefully Google and Motorola don't let us down
This is great news... May keep from buying a nexus 5....but I'm still gonna handle one just to see it and see how it performs and feels. I've been very pleased with my moto X though, more than I have with any other device.

i dont mind this at all.
i mean i don't get caught up in the version numbers per se, but the features.
i honestly am not really sure what is so different about 4.2 and even 4.1 other than it hink some stuff in the settings bar is slightly different. 4.3 added trim support natively but from the anandtech review i know moto backported that to their version of 4.2.2. so that doesnt matter either.
4.4 at least i figure is a big enough jump. before the moto x i was using a razr M on 4.1.2 and honestly i can barely tell the difference OS wise between any of these (and i had 4.3 on a nexus 7 for a while, honestly all the jelly bean labeled 4.1-4.3 variants are basically the same)

What the? Verizon first? Come on tmobile..
I just switched to sprint for free and sold my us cellular moto x to pay the early termination, im now the proud owner of a moto x on sprint with unlimited data, I was paying so many overages with data as I use it to tether my surface pro. When sprint gets the update can I just unlock bootloader and flash su.zip since the sprint version is available for bootloader unlock?

There is no direct causative evidence pointing to the fact that the NDA was broken and if that was why the soak test was cancelled. However, yes, the soak seems to have been cancelled.
It is plausible that the test was cancelled so that they could begin the general rollout instead; which, if true, is actually a good move by Motorola. I don't see why anyone should be angry that the soak is cancelled in light of the news of the general rollout. Once we have our hands on the update file, we can ADB sideload and profit!

VERY little, in my opinion. I was coming from the Samsung Galaxy S III, and was also trying to choose between the N5 and the MotoX. I chose the Moto, and so far I'm really pleased.

Not directed at me but if I chose moto i'll only be on it until my contract is up in June. I have good Sprint service but I want to go to a GSM carrier and buy unlocked since i'm done with contracts. The intriguing part about Nexus 5 is i could use it on Sprint and then take it elsewhere when my contract is up. Moto X brings innovation though. The X2 would definitely be my next phone.

Is it? I asked the sales rep about that and they said an update would be released when SPARK went live in the area. If that's incorrect, then I suppose the N5 might be a better bet if you're looking to acquire SPARK functionality sooner.

I will defer to those with more insider information than I. I've found the Moto X to be speedier than my GS3 in the Houston area, so while SPARK would be nice, I can't say it makes me regret purchasing this phone if it will not be compatible. So far I've been very pleasantly surprised at how much I'm liking it.

on sprint, chose the MotoX because it feels much better in hand. Hardware and software working VERY well together in this little device. The nexus 5 looked great, but I am not one to do any or much flashing or tinkering with phones. I wanted a phone that worked, and the MotoX fits that bill the best IMO. I also got it for 1 cent on Amazon for upgrade, so that was awesome.

I just tried to flash that but it said an error about it was meant for ghost devices.
How is everyone liking the screen size with the soft keys? I was messing around with a co-workers and I didn't love the screen size. I have a N5 and was thinking about getting my wife the Moto X, she currently has the Sprint SII and I don't want to downgrade her screen size. I know I am used to the N5 screen so maybe her going from SII to Moto X won't be so bad.
