Hi,
The title says it all.
I've recently flashed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507021
and was planning to convert from dalvik into ART.
Now the thing is that I was able to convert it into ART, but found out that my phone wasn't booting after 30mins or so, so i figured my phone wouldn't boot after all.
I've returned to dalvik and configured everything into what I wanted other than ART.
Would like to ask if anyone has got this problem, and how to fix this?
And if anything else, would anyone be kind enough to explain in brief whats the difference of ART and dalvik?
Thanks in advance.
Why don't you flash factory stock nexus 4 image instead of using a port, and make sure you factory reset.
This video is decent to explain it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5oliXcOqxg
Or http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-in-secret-for-over-2-years-debuts-in-kitkat/
sent from nexus 4
Thanks!
Thanks for your reply!
I've seen the video just as you linked it here. Got a pretty good idea of what ART can do.
And it makes me wanna convert into ART even more.
And thanks too for your advice. I don't quite like stock as I felt a little ''caged'' in, and the urge to just flash new ROMs always kicks in.
Anyway, do you have any idea of what's the problem in not being able to reboot into ART? Could it be that I have to wait longer for it to boot into ART?
Thanks in advanced!
Like I said, flash factory stock for the nexus 4 instead, it'll have less bugs, and make sure you factory reset in the recovery first. If you need instruction, link in my sig with adb/fastboot and drivers.
When you first boot switch to ART right away. Normally it take as much as twice longer on first boot compared to Dalvik, but not more.
If you want to try other roms, do what I do, after installing stock, install MultiRom and multiboot into as many roms as you want.

I've heard of the multiROM being a good alternative. I'll check that out.
Thanks for your reply!
Anyway, solved the problem by flashing the latest bootloader.

Hey guys!
This is my first post on the Nexus 7 forum so if this is the incorrect place to ask such a question, please tell me!
Basically, I wanted to make sure that I'm flashing my roms correctly. Specifically, I've been on a flashing binge and installed Smooth Rom, Paranoid Android and Liquid Smooth all after one another in the same sitting. My flashing process, using clockwork mod, begins by wiping all of my data and cache -> Rewiping the cache (this probably isn't needed) -> Flashing the Rom -> and lastly flashing gapps. I'd be very thankful if someone could tell me if this is a clean flash.
Also, I've noticed from other users on the boards for these roms that they're getting much higher benchmarks. For example, Smooth Rom with the Motley Kernel, one user mentioned that he got around 4800 on the quadrant benchmark which is much higher than what I've gotten even by fully overclocking. That's one of the reasons I wanted to make sure I was flashing correctly. Incidentally, I also seem to create a new set of folders on the Nexus 7 after flashing each Rom. For example, I have on my internal storage the usual set of folders (Alarm, Android, DCIM, etc...) but then I also have folders named legacy and 0. Within 0, there is a whole new set of Alarm, Android, DCIM, Downloads, etc... And within that subset of folders is another 0 folder with more of the same folders. So you get the picture. That doesn't seem right to me since eventually I'll have an outrageous amount of folders, haha.
So yeah! If anyone could tell me whether I flashed correctly and maybe why I seem to have those problems, I'd very much appreciate it!
Also, I'd like to note that coming from the HTC Vivid forums, it's a breath of fresh air to see such a dedicated and organized forum! Thank you!

if your roms are flashing, then youre flashing correctly. generally you want to wipe data only if going from one rom to a different rom. but if only updating the same rom, just flash your rom without wiping anything. no need to wipe dalvik as it gets wiped when you flash the rom.
what recovery are you using? i thonk its only cwm recovery that keeps adding a 0 folder every time, no such issue with twrp recovery.
benchmarks, its about how you set up your device, and how you actually benchmark. you should benchmark at highest cpu/highest cpu, as to not allow your device to scale. if you allow your device to scale, you dont actually know what cpu speed is being benchmarked. btw, 4800 on a quadrant is low. anyways, benchmarks shouldnt matter to you(to a developer they might matter though), what should matter is how it feels and runs for you.
I follow that same routine, but have only been successful in one flash, and after trying to go to P.A., now I can't get any to boot correctly. I have maybe 4 ROMs to try from, but all day, only the one worked. LiquidJB , I think. I really wanted PA though, cause thats whats on my phone.

did you wipe data before flashing the new rom?
Yes. I always wipe cache and dalvik, before flashing, and I flash the rom then gapps using twrp. At this point, I'm stuck at the Google screen with one, and PA says setup stopped when I load it.

Man I had at least a half dozen good responses to this topic - but my better judgement stopped me.

not cache and dalvik, did you wipe data(factory reset)?

Yes. Factory reset. Unfortunately, I've now wiped the sd card (internal) so I'm trying to flash AP using a zip on my laptop with Nexus Root Toolkit v.1.5.5, but now that I tried, iss that the rom I managed to boot still has an error that the setup program stopped, and the error keeps coming up, keeping me from entering debugging mode... guess i have to do a flash stock + unroot and start fresh....

Well, mean, I had downloaded something like 5 Roms. Might it be that rooting changed my boot version or something? Not sure what the boot version changes with the N7, on my phone it's pretty important.

So, is there any fix for this strange folders "legacy" ans "0"?
Hey!
Sorry for not responding sooner. University applications can be so time consuming. Thanks a lot Simms22! You've been a great help. Since then, I've cared less about benchmarks and more on the fact that the Nexus is freakishly fast with SmoothRom.
I haven't fixed the legacy problem but I'm assuming (and I could definitely be wrong with this) I could just delete the extra folders seeing as they technically don't have anything inside of them and afterwards just switch to TWRP. Shouldn't be that difficult.
Hey guys,
i noticed something weird after ugrading to android 4.3 (official images).
After the upgrade and setting up my n4 i noticed that my available storagespace was only 6gb, but i have a 16gb model so it must be around 12gb user available space(????) at minimum i guess.
Somebody noticed this too or is there some explaination for this??
I clean flashed the sh*t out of it so that shouldn't be the problem i think.
Cheers

I don't recall the exact cause of this. But if you flash the factory images with the bat file it will be back to normal.
That will also wipe your phone though so keep that in mind.

THNX m8,
gonna try asap!! Will report back.
Really??? So flashing the img one by one isn't the best way to do it, tought it was the right way.
Cheers.

I'm sure it can be done no problem flashing them one by one. Just can't recall what causes it. Whether you need to fastboot erase things or what. Maybe don't flash the userdata. Img Had it happen to me on the original nexus 7.
I'm pretty sure if you look around in the how to threads its probably mentioned and explained. Or a Google search. I just don't care. Since the flashing script fixes it / doesn't cause it.
I think it mostly comes up from erasing cache instead of formatting it. I ran into it the other day too when going back to stock. You can try wiping cache if you installed a custom recovery, otherwise a factory reset (formatting data/cache) cleared out up for me

Sgace,
I have the same problem.
Did you manage to solve it?
albundy2010,
Do you mean the file named flash-all.bat?
If yes, what should I do with it? enter the bootloader and double click on the file? I mostly used toolkits by now...
Thanks!
Edit: Nevermind, it seems a factory reset (from the phone settings, not recovery) fixed the problem. Wierd.
It will return to phone to a clean full stock 4.3. It will be exactly like how a device would ship from Google with 4.3 on it. Except that the boot loader will still be unlocked.
To use the bat file its fairly simple.
1. Unpack the file you get from Google. Do not extract the files you end up with any further.
2. Depending on how your system is set up it can vary. So just do this to make to be sure. Move everything that was extracted to whatever directory has the fastboot executable ( fastboot exe)in it. Toolkit folder maybe ( I don't use those awful things so no idea where it puts things.). Or the platform tools folder in the SDK if that's installed.
3. Yes the phone needs to be in the bootlader. Once you're in the boot loader just click on the bat from within the folder with the fastboot.exe from step 2.
All this is assuming your computer has the proper drivers / working fastboot etc.
Still lost or can't figure it out, follow the flash factory images guide.
For me also a factoryreset from settings did the job.
Thnx for the help Guys!!
Cheers

hey guys!
my N4 is annoying the crap out of me, multiple stuff "not responding" constantly, only fixable by a restart.
im running slimbean, which i probably won't anymore, but im not sure if that is the issue.
i want to format my machine 100%, just leave the bootloader unlocked, and install a totally new install of a different rom,
i heavent decided yet but i know that if i just flash a new rom (and also do the 2 wipe cach things) the issues continue because i already
did that before.
so what exactly do i have to do in order to clean the machine, and than have a reallly fresh new install?
ty!
Well... I'm coming from Optimus 2X so I have no idea what I'm talking about, but when I want to do a complete format I go to recovery and in "mounts and storage" I choose format /sdcard.
I guess that also exists in nexus 4?
Oh wait... just realized that there is no external sdcard in nexus 4
So... I guess if you do that you would have to use "adb" to push recovery and a flashable ROM... does that make sense to you?
Or you could try to just format /system!
I would recommend following this guide on how to install the factory image. It will restore everything, including the bootloader, but you can just unlock it again afterwards. Or just not flash the bootloader image.

anyone would like to recommend a good stable mod? (besides CM maybe?) im sick of all these non responding crashes
Guys,
This is driving me nuts. I want to update from PAC 4.3 rom to custom 4.4 (probably purity rom). I have been looking aroung for a tutorial to ensure i dont miss any steps and bugger up the phone (call me a newb) but i just cant, for the life of me, find a tut for that.
The devOP suggests your normal Wipe Data> wipe cache> wipe dalvik> Flash ROM> flash Gapps> flash Kernel and reboot.
Whats confusing me is
1. whether i also need to flash radios?
2. whether I need to be on CWM (coz some threads saying TWRP wont work)
3. whether i need to do do anything else out of the ordinary.
Im not one to start a thread unnecessarily, believe me I have searched the forums, and gotten answers too, but I just cant seem to reach a unanimously agreed way to do it. Would love to have a Tutorial, but for the meantime if someone could please help me by just clearing up my doubts.
Thanks a lot.:good:
P.S. i really didnt know where to put this. Moderators, hope its okay.
Just try it out. if you flash it like any other ROM, there is nothing to worry about. If your signal is acting up. Fastboot flash the new radio. If it doesn't flash, use CWM instead of TWRP.

If you make one beforehand that is.
That's actually a valid point there, since I don't know if the 2 backup types are compatible (although I would suspect that they are) make a backup after you flashed the new recovery as well. Just to be safe.
Good luck, and enjoy 4.4!

Well, hello there! So I recently came across this issue with my Google Nexus 4 and I am pretty sure it's a simple answer but I still want to double check before I screw this up. This is my first phone to actually root successfully, I am running an up to date version of purity rom, have a custom kernal to go with it,and on top of that I also have TWRP as my custom recovery. I recently bought the Nexus 5 and I want sell this one to one of my friends with the actual purity rom in the phone and dont know how to do a clean install without it having my personal data in it, should I factory data reset all the phone and reinstall the purity rom and gapps , or a friend of mine told me to just format the data and itll be fine. Like I said this is my first rooted phone and Im basically new to this. My friend wants the phone rooted with purity and I want to give him a like new experience to the phone. Also to start from the very beginning of the rom, like signing in to the google accounts and what not (like a new phone or like the very first time when you install a custom rom). Rather than just making it complicated for myself, I want to ask you, the experts. How would you solve this issue? And also what would be the best option for this problem that I am having? I just want to thank you guys in advance for not only your time and patience, but also for the future advice that you're giving me.
