Negalite rom &ota updater. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Rooted my Sprint s4 about a week ago with negalite rom r10 and every time I reboot for whatever reason I get a ota update for that rom so I go to install and it takes me to twrp where it looks like it may update but reboots after a few sec. Nothing gets updated and I get the ota date again. Any ideas? And is negalite r10 the latest?

Disable the update in the settings of the ota program. All of negamanns newest m ja based roms also require Philz recovery.

Dead Android bot on update install

SO my N7 is rooted through Wugs tool, it has been great so far!
Now though, when I try to install the system update, my little android bot dies with an exclamation mark above him and I have to hard reboot.
Any ideas?
Probably because you now have a custom recovery instead of stock.

So what would be the best route to fix this, I am overly tired of getting prompted to install my system update.
Thanks
Freeze the update apk.

My goal would be to update my N7, if for no other reason, than to stop getting pop ups every 10mins asking to install the update.
I am running WugFresh's toolkit 1.5.2, My tablet is running Jellybean 4.1.1 RO03C
An OTA update will not install or will not install correctly on a device that has been modified from stock.
But if your device has a custom recovery installed (flashed via Wugs) you can install a custom 4.2 ROM and you will have everything you would get from the OTA. The 4.2 stock rooted rom from scrosler is a good ROM to start with. Or use wugs to return to stock and take the OTA. Then from there you can root/ flash whatever you want to do.

thanks for this thread,
im in exactly the same position except havent clicked accept update yet and glad i havent lol
asked many times but always get mixed answer's about updating my rooted nexy with twrp recovery, i did use goo manager to update to the latest twrp recovery
so im not sure if i need to un-root to update as the new twrp is supposed to work with 4.2?

Flashed wrong twrp...

Ok... I have been reading way to much today, to the point i did something rather noobish.
Was in the dev section TWRP thread specifically looking to downgrade fron 2.6 to 2.5, saw the last post where someone posted a dropbox link of 2.5. Thought "how convenient" and flashed. But the zip was for another model number, now i cant get into my recovery.
Odin flash of the stock image is always an option. But one that I would prefer to avoid it if at all possible. I was hoping that someone else out there was well... as stupid as I am, and maybe had some advice?
Is there any possibility that goo manager will simply over right the wrong recovery image with the proper?
Or is it by any chance possible to simply flash the TWRP ZIP with Odin?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, and I already know that I'm a burnout lol.

Just flash the 2.5 twrp zip in twrp. It'll down grade
Goo should over write it, and just to make sure ..you have the i337m -Non att variant. Youll have to see if anybody has a non loki version if twrp 2.5

Yeah, just finished a backup/restore after goo re installed 2.6.
Everything seems fine. Just with so many "brick" threads on here wanted to be careful.
The bricks revolve mostly around the newest update that locks the boot loader on the at&t s4. On the m non at&ti believe you just need a non Loki kernel but I am not positive.

If it's I337m or M919, Loki or not, it doesn't matter...
My phone is bootloader unlocked from the start from what i understand its the Canadian Rogers varient.
Im just now after reading countless threads wraping my head round this device. Its way more complex of a situation then the note 2 (previous phone).
My understanding is that we stay away from anything loki'd.
2 days in and im still not comfortable flashing any rom 4.2 or 4.3 lol. Another day or two of reading :-\

Ponder that, a canuck is less subject to tyranny? Your bootloader isn't locked? NICE! AT&T has degenerated from American Telephone and Telegraph into a globalized melting pot of greed and required upgrade costs and technical support that uses broken English spoken by people in India. You Canadians luck out this time!
I jumped in with motochopper to get root back in May and had the AT&T Software update service frozen with Titanium Backup back in June, I was so lucky to be "on top of it" by reading this forum. I used "Casual" to obtain TWRP 2.5.0.2 a custom recovery. I've never seen it so easy. After burning an image 3.56 GB of my stock firmware, I have since deleted it from my handset and replaced it with a nandroid of my daily driver here because GoldenEye is flawless. I saved a copy of the stock firmware on my desktop computer just in case, but I doubt I'll ever flash it and all of it's horrendous bloatware.
So I'm a happy camper, that only suffers the jone'sen for a fix as a "flash junkie". I will try CyanogenMod on this S4 after they iron the kinks out.
Looks like you're ok now?
FYI for anyone else in similar situation, ROM Toolbox Pro can download and install recoveries as well. It can access TWRP as well as CWM recoveries. A bonus for TWRP, it detects 2.5.0.2 as latest (avoid the occasional Teamwin splash screen hang with 2.6)!
I used this method to downgrade from 2.6 to 2.5.0.2. :good:
Word of warning, why upgrade from a working twrp 2.5.0.2, when it works flawless? Sometimes upgrading to a newer, is not always the best...look at the XDA app....yikes...

You're very welcome! I initially had TWRP 2.6 installed via rooting procedure (one-click method) and recently had ROM Toolbox flash TWRP 2.5.0.2 over it. No probs. Did full nandroid after it.

Wrong twrp flashed
Dear friend wrong twrp for my device I'm not able to go to the boot menu, how can i get rid of this, help me please. I've my stack memory and kernel already backup in my device memory.
The phone is an att i337? If it is, I assume the bootloader is unlocked since you were able like to flash a custom recovery.
i have no twrp AND I am stuck in boot loop...............................what will I do
Boot into download mode and confirm the phone's model number. Then flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com with Odin to get the phone back to stock.

What am I doing wrong? Sprint S4 WILL NOT root.

I've always used Teamepic root and then flashed my rom, that didn't work with the S4, at least for me.... I couldn't get into recovery.
So I tried many other ways, every way I have found on the internet and if it's not one thing it's another. SSU will either say binary not available or when I am installing from recovery (cfroot) it says install aborted. I've flashed to the stock rom so many times since yesterday I'm about to go nuts, but nothing will get this phone rooted, please help!

Can't flash twrp with the new OTA update. You will have to flash back to the firmware 80010d. Hopefully the dev's figure it out soon.
Questions should be in Q&A, but, try this suggestion..

I also took the OTA from stock and ended up in the same boat w/o being able to flash a custom recovery.
I just reverted to stock and installed TWRP, after a lot of useless troubleshooting and wasted time.
I intended to use stock OS, but, I couldn't help myself and installed Aeon V3 rom for AT&T, you really must try it, it is SO choice.
Of course you must flash back to stock and TWRP/CWM yourself b4 installing Aeon v3 should you choose.
How did you go back to stock? Before the OTA? Mind to enlighten this lad.

How to install M once it drops on rooted Phone?

So, I'm rooted, but haven't installed any custom roms yet since they all seem to have lots of bugs.
Basically, once M drops, I won't be able to install an OTA update, right? So how will I be able to just run rooted stock, like I am now?
Realize I should probably just cross that bridge when I get to it, but thanks in advance

You will get the OTA but it will not get installed on your phone as you have modified system. I was also on Stock Rooted but i had the Nandroid backup of my unmodified system i.e. the backup before i flashed the SuperSU zip. If you also have the backup of you system that you can restore it and flash the stock recovery , then you will be good to go for MM update.
Hmmm... What if I didn't save the backup of my stock unrooted?

There will be a stock rooted rom posted once OTA is released, you flash it just like any other rom. You might need to flash updated firmware as well.

You can use the restore to stock tool.
If you have flashed TWRP just restore stock recovery and ota should work then. The reason it would fail other wise is because it is detecting the non-stock recovery. Having an unlocked bootloader shouldn't matter though don't take my word on that.

OP says that he has rooted his stock ROM. So i guess he has to restore whole system.
are you sure its not going to take the OTA, in my past experience which dates way back ( been a nexus warrior for years now) you can apply the update as long as you haven't modified anything with the stock apps, so if you removed any of the google office like apps then it would fail. but if you just rooted and just did stuff like greenify or titanium backup it would work

No, you won't be able to install an OTA update, because you're rooted (and have a custom recovery, like TWRP).
When Marshmallow becomes available, you'll either flash an update like any other ROM. Or, you can restore your phone to stock condition (using Restore to Stock tool), and then get an OTA update from there.
In either case, always assume worst-case scenario where you'll lose all your data; and will need to reload applications + data after the update, however you choose to get it done.
Seems like it would be easiest to just flash a zip file. Will there be an official one?

Sure there will be one sooner than later. Just probably not same day as it might come out. Just takes devs a couple days and I can bet they will have a stock rooted rom to flash. I am in same boat. I don't want to take the jump to the early indian build. Just seems to buggy atm. Just have to have patience. Devs work wonders and for that I thank them.
Full unroot with supersu will it work?
On my 2013 X I was able to take the OTA. There are two main concerns:
Xposed will need to be removed if it is installed. There used to be a zip you could flash, but here are manual instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58964632&postcount=2262
TWRP will need to be replaced with the stock recovery, else the update will put you into a boot loop.
I did not have to remove the SuperSU binaries or re-flash system, but if you have the time it is the safest option.
OK, so now its real... What have you all been doing?
