Issues with YouTube since Kitkat update? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey gang. I've noticed a weird issue with my YouTube app since the update. I've attached screenshots for reference. Basically when I start to play a video in portrait mode is fine, when I go to landscape mode something happens and there is an overlay over the screen with some weird icon (RSS Feed?). It makes the screen very dark in the video area. Then when I go back into portrait mode it's still there. Then subsequent videos have the overlay whether in portrait or landscape. I have to exit the app and restart it to fix it. But if I put the app into landscape it happens every time. Never had this before the 4.4 update. Completely stock with ART enabled. Thanks for any input or advice.

Figured it out. It's a known bug that affects the new YouTube app. When you turn on bluetooth even if YouTube it off this overlay appears. The only way to fix it is to turn out blue tooth and reboot.

Locking youtube screen orientation

When i watch videos on youtube while laying on my side, youtube automatically rotates the screen even when i use the lock on the notifications bar. How do i go about locking it without youtube messing with what it thinks is the right orientation?
Anyone?
Ultimate Rotation tool has the ability to change settings on an app by app basis. You could have Globally Force Rotate which will allow all screens to rotate and then go to YouTube, select App Only and set the mode to Landscape.
From that point on, when you enter YouTube, the screen will force to Landscape but everything else will still rotate (even the home screen).
NO Root needed... and it is not free, but you got $25 free bucks from Google to use for stuff like that.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate
There is a 7 day trial so you can see if it works for you. There may be other non-fee or lower cost apps that do the same thing as well... this just what I use.
When you are watching a video there is a toggle for landscape or portrait if you tap on the video

anyone having screen flickering issue. it happens when you calls up the keyboard on stock browser, dolphin browser, gmail app, play store, mainly app with white background. it happens for very short period of time but only noticeable on white background.
what do you think is it software issue or hardware.
edit: turn the brightness down then on stock browser get a white page then try to get keyboard by touching search bar you won't miss it.

I have it too on i9500.. Ive been wondering why no one reported this.
It's software. I have read the I9500/I9505 aren't the only phones it happens on.

happens to mine too, im from tmobile forums. Def a software issue
Not only that but the hue of the screen changes too.
It's very subtle and most people probably won't recognise it but the screen goes from having a magenta cast to a green cast and back again when keyboard is toggled.
I only noticed this when I was watching a black and white you tube clip, I touched the screen to bring up the pause button and as the menu came up the screen changed hue then when I clicked it again and the menu went the screen hue changed back.
Very weird!
agree..
I noticed the same thing after a couple of days. Really annoying and I'm hoping for a quick fix!

Video Orientation issue

Hi guys
I have searched and not seen this issue much and no fixes for it.
I recently shot some video with my S4, when I try and play it back the orientation is flipped. I shot the video in landscape but when I play it back, it flips it portrait so you kinda have to tilt your head to watch it.
Has anybody come across this before, better yet, anybody know how to remedy this?? It's driving me nuts.
By the way, phone is still standard, not yet even rooted.
Thanks for any suggestions...
Which application are you using to play your recorded videos?
Have you switched on auto Screen Rotation?
If i switched off Screen Rotation, the recoded videos(landscape) plays back in portrait on stock video player. You can turn the video to landscape by pressing the rotate icon on top right hand corner of the app.
If i have Screen Rotation on, the video app will automatically start in landscape mode.

I'm using the std video app, I have now turned off auto rotation and I can indeed switch to landscape. Any idea why it records in the wrong orientation in the first place, maybe auto rotation enabled is the cause??
Thanks for your help mate.
Its recorded wrong in the first place because Auto Rotation was off. Switch on auto rotation before recording.

[Q] Camera auto-rotating some pictures, how do i fix it?

Using stock android on my Galaxy Note 3, the camera app is rotating pictures that i do not want it to.
The best example i can give is the following:
The two pictures here are screenshots of them in the gallery. They are the exact same picture, one taken a little bit closer to the page than the other one, yet one of them was rotated in landscape mode.
Picture 1 is how i want the pictures to turn out (fill the screen)
Picture 2 is how i do not want them to turn up (so much black on the screen)
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Dion.

I probably should have said i tried with auto rotate off and auto rotate on.
It makes no difference, it seems like the camera does it at random.

Perhaps using a different camera app? Camera FV-5 is a daily driver for me.

Weird problem in the browser and stock video player, please help.

I have the Note 3 9005 version and in the stock browser I have the option for full screen ticked. But when I scroll down the page the address bar doesn't disappear, so no true full screen mode. The status bar is hidden though.
Also in the stock video player when I touch the screen to bring up the controls, it doesn't auto hide after a few seconds like it should and doesn't disappear even when I tap the middle of the screen. I have to press the rotate button to change the orientation and then once again to go back to landscape mode.
Could these 2 issues be related? Any solutions will be appreciated.
I have the same problem with the video player. Only workaround is to rotate it portrait then back to landscape, controls disappear ...

Do you have the browser problem too? The address bar doesn't auto hide on mine like it should.
Anyone else facing these issues? Possible fix?

Yup, just tested. Address bar stays on persistent even though full screen option checked under browser settings ....
Though this one isnt as irritating as the video playback due to the large screen..
Any fix or workaround ?
Did the rotate workaround work for you as well for the video playback ?

Edit: wrong thread sorry.
Yep, that's the only way to rotate the screen for me too.
So can we assume the browser and the video player issues are linked?
Even though it's a large screen i still wanna utilise all of it...
Anyone else with this problem? I'm so used to full screen browsing on my note 2 but I can't get it to work on the note 3.
Are there any other browsers that have a proper full screen mode?

i am having this problem. on android 4.3. when in video playback, the controls doesn't auto hide. i have to rotate the screen in order to do so.... maybe there is a bug? or a bad program that affects this?
Full screen browser is only meant to hide the status bar. It says so in the settings!
