Well one day I was using my nexus like usual.
I was using an app and after i got done i set the n7 down on my bed.
I picked it up because I was gonna take a pic but the tablet was shut off.
I thought that the battery might of died but I remembered the battery was like around 80% full
so it couldn't be that. I turned it on and I was now stuck on the "Google" logo screen.
I went into recovery mode and i tried factory wipe and I get errors about mounting cache and other commands..
(E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log) <-- like so.
So I can't do anything form this point past that. I never tried rooting/unlocking so that's out the question.
Is there anything I can do?
I heard about ODIN but it looks like it's only for phones :/

You need wugfresh nexus toolkit (Google it)
It can help you restore bricked devices, install custom recovery, install stock recovery, and so much more!

Odin will only work on Samsung devices. That's a Samsung flash tool. Is your bootloader unlocked?

Toolkit works fine
I don't know if i am taking the right steps.
I did try to unlock the bootloader manually and with the toolkit but it just stays stuck in
"erasing userdata" and that's where it sits.. even left it overnight and still in the same spot.
Also tried diff USB cables and nothing :/

--- If you have bricked your HTC Desire Z or G2. I have a method that is sure to work! In the past I bricked the same device and I have found a way around it. Follow these steps and post and thank if it has worked for you! ---
How To Unbrick A HTC Desire Z or G2!
Step 1: If your device is rooted and flashed with "ClockworkMod Recovery" and "S-Off"you want to start by holding down the Volume Down Button and holding the Power Button for about 7 seconds.
Step 2: You will suddenly be welcomed with the HBOOT Menu. Scroll down and select Recovery.
Step 3A: You will then be showed the "ClockworkMod Recovery" Menu. (Read the message below!)
Step 3B: First you will need to Factory Reset and Clear Cache Partition!
**If you have a backup or restore point continue to Step 4A if not you will need to install an alternate ROM and proceed to Step 5 or Factory Reset which will only reset for that ROM. For another possible solution a read end of post!**
Step 4A: Now from here you will of course scroll down to Backup and Restore, select restore and select your point of restore!
Step 5: Now if you have another ROM located on the SD Card of your phone you can scroll down to install zip from sdcard and find the zip file (gapps if required) and install all of the following and reboot!
Step 6: Enjoy your UnBricked device!
---Alternate Solutions----- Fix Permissions and reboot.
-- Factory Reset and Reboot
... lol I had to do this method long ago. Bad thing is I had to find out on my own but is good that you posted this. I think it will help out.

I have tried this method, but I cannot reach the CWM menu, all I can do is try the standard HBoot recovery from PC10IMG.zip, but it dies at RADIO_V2 step after many Fail-PU on all other steps: what can I do?
My DZ was rooted, flashed with CWM and Virtuous ROM. I have a nandroid backup on the SD. It died today with "can't mount" error messages after a freeze and reboot.
Also tried Factory Reset from HBoot, but it hanged at the "androids on skate" screen forever..
These instructions are just "how to flash a ROM" or at best, what to do after a failed flash.
I don't want to sound like a jerk, I think it's great whenever someone takes the time to help others, but these instructions will not work for a bricked phone.
Allright, I'll keep following the other thread then.

radio: 26.02.01.15_m2
I can't pass the boot
I can't any radio
I can't downgrade radio version
I can't use misc.img
After I select recover the phone just froze at HTC white screen. Clockwork recovery was installed and flashed.
I think this is called "soft-bricked"
hard-bricked is when none of this stuff is possible and you have to send your phone and $40 to that famous dude here in the forum who un-bricks anything.
Hi, I have an unrooted Desire Z on Bell. I recently experienced a hard lock and upon battery pull, discovered that my phone would not boot up (frozen at the htc screen). I can hold volume - and the power button to get into the boot menu, but can't seem to perform a factory reset or enter recovery mode. Recovery brings me to the screen it should initially (with the green circle/arrow symbol) and then the screen goes blank and the phone vibrates a total of seven times before...nothing happens. Selecting factory reset just hangs up the Hboot menu.
All I can really do is go into Fastboot or IMAGE CRC, but don't see any options there. Any one have any ideas?
Before this, i also experience half brick. My DZ already s off. So i just flash the stock rom & gain the root again. Flash the custom rom & my DZ back to normal until now.

I was using CM7 for about a month, without any reboots at all. Recently i got greedy and wanted to try out MIUI, so i downloaded the latest ROM and copied it onto the SD card and ofcourse flashed the system with it. After rebooting i only get to see the lockscreen and after that the phone just reboots. I have tried everything there is, but with no luck.
It seems i can not revert the phone back to stock reco, rom etc. either, because first i need a working system to do that.
Any ideas, people?
Thank You in advance,
a worried Android fan from Estonia.

I'd get your money back if you could. It sounds like this jerk knowingly sold you a bricked phone. When you get those cache errors in recovery, it's essentially bricked. Try searching for restoring by flashing PD15IMG.zip through the boatloader. It's basically unrooting and flashing the stock image, but it does not always work.

What tj said. One way you can try is flashing a clockworkmod 2.x.x recovery from fastboot and fixing the catches. However, if the recovery partition is too far gone you will truly brick the phone. If you can't get your money back try his way then try my way. If neither work you got jacked for $80 sorry bud.

Update your findings, I'd be interested to know if it worked
Well I tried to set up SDK to use ADB to push the CWM 2.x.x.x. img and its not working properly. It will not detect my device. Ill have to check when i have more time tonight. So far not so good.
"It will not detect my device."
Did you install the HTC driver?
Did you do an "adb devices" first? ( when i do it it says daemon not found starting daemon etc etc or something to that effect, then it shows the device ID -- so in other words, it may have to start some services on your pc first with the devices command before you launch in to pushing files onto an unidentified device -- this last part is just my observation, not gospel)
You can't use ADB for pushing the recovery, unless you have a rooted phone and it boots far enough to use ADB. Otherwise you need to use fastboot, and if you don't have the engineering bootloader - you won't be able to.

im going to try it in a sec, but just two questions. one, isn't this just to change your boot logo? and do i need the continuum pit.pit file?
Yes, it does give the ability to change the boot logo... But when doing it, i noticed that after flashing, the stock recovery does this weird thing where it wipes everything, even when normally it won't... after that, it worked again...... Just know you will loose your data But whatev's
and no, not necessarily..
If that doesn't work, which is probably won't, then reflash the stock recovery, then try the cwm v4 adryn recovery, then try the stock kernel, and then the system image, all in Odin... In that order
oh, and cobitts15... Your dumb... always do a nandroid backup, even if its something simple...
and you are using the wrong Odin... try doing a wipe from within the stock recovery, and if that doesn't work, then download the RIGHT ODIN and flash that file... then go through the steps easily found within the development thread and get cwm working...
can i use heimdall instead of odin? i have a mac

Define "doing stuff". That could be anything, like constantly tapping the volume button scrolling through one screen, or playing with the mounts and formatting options. The more detail you can give about what you were doing, the easier it will be to solve the problem.

can you go to settings, about phone, and tell me what is says for baseband?
si400.0.6v.dl17
Hmm... I would've thought that was going to be blank....
Well, all I can say is to try flashing the clean rom in cwm, and do a user wipe...
And it wouldn't hurt to first try to reactivate... Go to dialer and type in *228 then when you hear the lady's options choose 1...
Try that first xD

I'm getting a replacement handset sent to me for free but I wanna try and see if I can fix this before I send it back just for experience sake so at this point if I brick it trying new things I don't care because I got a new phone.
So if anyone has any experimental ideas let me know
I had the same thing happen to me a month ago, but it hung on the verizon screen instead of the samsung screen. Seems our stock dumps don't contain the information to do DNS resolving. If you notice, the WiFi and 3G are both out, because you can't get DNS to work properly. I feel like if we bindiff the dumps with the actual phone we could get an idea of where we can't get, but i guess our problem is actually accessing the part we aren't getting.

Ok, here's the deal. I was turned on to heimdall by our beloved Trailblazer101, so I tried to flash a rom via that. Something got borked in it, and now i have no download mode(when i try to boot into dl mode, either via vol down or cwm, it takes me right back to stock recovery), and I'm getting error
E:can't mount dev/block/st111 (invalid arguement) in stock recovery, and
E: Can't mount dev/block/st111 (File still exists)
E: Can't mount recovery/log
E: Can't open recovery/log
in CWM.
I can still flash successfully, but flashing kernel and a known good rom has no effect.
I'm thinking, even though I never did anything with the bootloaders, and it never got tp factory.rfs before heimdall crashed, there might have been something that got screwed up in the boot.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Maybe one of the experts could find a way to get something in a flashable zip?
OK, i do have adb in cwm... so I can push via adb. As soon as I figure out what to push, where
and you really asked this in the wrong section...

That, or its CWM. I had it on my other mt4g and I got errors flashing LeeDroid. So I switched to 4ext and it flashed perfectly. I just feel there is something wrong with cwm touch. I'm not stating that as fact, just my opinion as a former user. As a matter of fact, I've never has an error using 4ext.

I agree, try flashing 4ext. Worst case scenario, try flashing back to stock with a pd15.Img in most cases it will set everything back to normal. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad emmc on your hands. Exhaust every option, before giving up! We've all been there!
