I was in stock I9500UBUBMG1, then I used auto-root and after that I flashed cwm recovery via odin. Everything worked fine in despite of Custom Binary and custom system status in dowload mode. So tried miui rom, but after 2 months I decided to come back to stock I9500UBUBMG1.
curiously, all status are Official again.
Is that normal? since I just use stock 4.2.2 (old bootloader) or custom roms I can always return to official?
If I update via OTA will still official and show knox 0x0? (not that I would update).
If I install a 4.3 or 4.4 based rom I can return to MG1 with offical? or just if isn't TW based?
Thanks
I too have a question relevant to Knox behaviour: I am on Stock 4.2.2 MG1 firmware. I would like to Root and use Custom firmware. Any possible way not to trip Knox Counter? Anyway to save or backup my current modem / firmware, so that I can flash back to it if Knox is tripped?

if you update your phone to a rom with knox bootloader, then you can't root and install custom recovery without tripping knox flag.. otherwise, on 4.2.2 you can root and return to stock rom(only 4.2.2) to get fully official status.. consider flashing latest roms modified to support old bootloaders.. so you can keep away all knox things... press thanks if it helps..

As we are in the old bootloader, we don't need to complain about knox, since we can flash stock MG1 back. You just need to pay attention because some custom firmware are imcompatible with old bootlader (or modem, idk) and if i'm not wrong, some custom roms can update your bootloader. There are some methods that will not turn your status to custom, but I think that auto-root and flash custom recovery is the best way to install a custom rom.
Thanks so much for that info!
I've Rooted using Ryebread76's method:
If you plan to flash custom firmware, as in a ROM, your going to trip KNOX. If you just want root, I used saferoot. It's for the VZW version, but it works just fine for the i337M.
Any suggestions on Custom Recovery / Firmware that will not change 4.2.2 MG1 bootloader?

It will not trip knox, since it is not activated in MG1.

When you flash the odex or deodexed 4.4.2 leak by Beanstown you will use JB Safestrap. Stable 3.65 is recommended. After you flash the rom and Odin the firmware by following the instructions here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726558
★ [ROM/ROOT][N900VVRUCNC2][4.4.2] Stock Root Odex/DeOdex [04/23/14]★
Once on 4.4.2 you will use Safestrap v3.72 for flashing roms.
Stock slot is the only thing available right now.
No rom slots can be used yet.
We are not able to flash AOSP roms with a locked bootloader unless you have a DevEd. @nitroglycerine33 is going to have a sweet 4.4.2 AOSP rom out soon but it's using the stock kernel so it's not full AOSP but it's gonna be the next best thing for our Note3.

First, if you have the retail Note 3 you can't use CM11. The only ROM slot that we can use with SS 3.72 on KK is the stock slot for now. If you want to flash another ROM just make a backup in SS then flash the new ROM in the stock slot. If you want to go back to the previous ROM just make a new backup and restore your previous (first ROM) backup into the stock slot.

Verizon Note 3, can a custom rom be put on 4.4.2?
RomsWell said:
Just odin the nc2 kernel. Safestrap. Make a backup in ss of your current stock rooted setup.
Wipe dalvik data and system under advance wipe in ss and then flash your rom. Rinse and repeat for your next rom. You do not need to re-odin the kernel when switching roms. And always flash to the stock slot. Multi slot setups have been problematic since the kk update.

Does this odin of the nckernel.tar.md5.zip work on 4.4.2? And can a custom rom be added with or after?
I have Verizon Note 3 with 4.4.2 on it. I have safestrap 3.75. What I want to do is put Nitroglycerine's Note 3 Eclipse ROM on it. Can anyone give me a step by step guide. I've searched the forums, but it is like finding a needle in a haystack. I recall seeing a video guide by droid modder x which showed replacing the stock rom slot with a custom rom in its place, but I think that was for 4.3 note 3's. Is it possible to get Eclipse TW Note3 v.2.01 on a 4.4.2. I have a house full of rooted phones via Odin, never used safestrap much, and a bit concerned since Hash looks like he has to work on other things besides safestrap.
So can we get a custom rom on note 3 verizon with 4.4.2?
I'm with ya
So... who is taking over for hash?
SS 3.72
I'm using safestrap 3.72. Can i flash using this version?
Had to replace my note and got a stock NC4 device now. I rooted it and got busybox and root access working. I then got safe strap installed and it boots up just fine. Now for the issue, when i try to install any rom it fails every time. Has anyone run into this issue and if so can you point me in the right direction to get back to flashing and moding

PMFJI, dumb question, but have you installed SuperSU?
safestrap/jasmine rom question
Hi I have a Verizon note 3 with jasmine rom v2.0. Rooted, flashed NC4 over NC2, on 4.2.2. used safestrap 3.75 but this was a little while ago. Done some poking around and havn't really seen anything as far as if there is a version of safestrap where the rom slots work. Or do I still need to install my rom to the stock slot? Looking to upgrade to the newer jasmine rom. Would the instructions be the same as the old ones for installing? If someone could help me out or point me to the right thread I would appreciate it thanks!
Flashing NC2 Kernel
Im currently on NC4 OTA with Safestrap installed and working. Custom roms do not work, however. Most threads all say to flash the NC2 kernel, which will allow me to install custom roms to other rom slots.
Is this correct? Do i only need to flash the NC2 Kernel? And if I do, will my NC4 stock rom slot still boot?
If I remember right you'll need to Odin nc2 over nc4 so that your roms will work. Also with using safe strap on the note 3 I think you will have to flash to stock slot none of the other rom slots were workin at the time when I was flashing mine over so make a good backup through SS before you do anything. It's been a while since I've messed with mine still running jasmine 2.0. Just find a good set of instructions or video and go with it
Cannot save or install ROMs - Rooted, SafeStrap installed, Knox OK
Howdy, folks!
I understand there is no more support for SafeStrap. Posting anyway, hoping an unofficial reply may be helpful... Thanks.
As I understand it, in order to save or install ROMs I *must* use SafeStrap. Is this so?
I see 3 different SafeStraps at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=1481#downloads
3.75 b03 / 3.65 / 3.75 b04
Maybe using a version other than the one I already tried (3.75 b04) will fix my issue?
My Verizon Note 3 details: SM-N900V / Android 4.4.2 / Kernel 3.4.0-1487472 / build version NC4 / bootloader NC4 / Knox = 0x0 / Build date 4/28/14.
Device is rooted (via TowelRoot and confirmed with Titanium Backup). Safestrap 3.75 is "Installed". BusyBox 1.232 is installed.
When I run SafeStrap the screen shows "State: Installed" and "Safe System: Not Active".
Tapping "Reboot to Recovery" does reboot the phone but I do NOT get any options to save or install any ROMs. The phone just reboots.
I thought I read somewhere I may need to (somehow) roll back to NC2... Or try something called ODIN? I dunno...
Any ideas, folks?
Thanks much!
Hi,
I'm new to the custom roms and would like to see advice on the recommended method to install a custom rom onto my untouched I9505. It's currently running Lollipop 5.0.1, I9505XXUHOE4 with KNOX 2.3
Thank you
This would belong into the Q&A section.
Anyway, the first thing you will need to do is to install a custom recovery. I recommed TWRP.
Just google twrp s4.
Optional: if you want to backup any apps or data, you will have to root first. Use odin and cf auto root.
After you installed a custom recovery, just look for a rom that interests you and flash it. Every rom has flash instructions.
Also check to make sure your phone doesn't have a locked bootloader. If it does, things are going to get complicated. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. AT&T and Verizon lock the bootloaders.
Thanks for info GDReaper.
My concern here is KNOX. Will the new bootloader affect anything on the custom roms as compared to a pre KNOX bootloader. Do I need to downgrade the firmware first?
Thanks
Hi @elus,
Installing any custom firmware will trip Knox. You can't downgrade it to pre-Knox bootloader.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Knox will not affect anything. Flashing custom firmware will only trip knox. This means that you lose your warranty. But the warranty is crap anyway, so it doesn't matter.
You won't see any trace of knox in custom roms. You might as well forget you ever had something called knox.
An easy way to root the ROM with TWRP is to flash supersu.zip from TWRP. Upon first boot, open supersu and let it disable knox and update binary files if necessary. You should be fine from that point forward.
Great! Thanks guys for the guide. Let the custom rom mods begin! Happy New Year Everybody!
So I got my father's old Note 3 after I lost a Z5 in Disneyland, I updated from JB to KK through OTA and installed SuperSU with Towelroot (Knox is still 0x0). I want to clear up some confusions before I go ahead and trip Knox:
AFAIK 4.4+ boot.imgs are not compatible with 4.3 aboot (and vice versa) and you can't downgrade the bootloader once it's updated (you can't odin a older firmware as a result). Will MM roms work with my current BL (rev counter 2)? I wasn't happy with the performance of stock 5.0 the last time I used a N3 and I don't want to risk losing the ability to revert to 4.4.2 if something went wrong with 6.0.
I'm probably sounding stupid but I never tinkered with a Samsung before.
MM is worser than LP so stay with KK.
I like my AryaMod 6.0.1 ROM, but no clue about BL. I always use newest. Why is tripping KNOX a problem? Warranty is no more anyways.
