[Q] Unlocked N7 2013 LTE on Ting - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Has anyone been able to do this? I was thinking of getting a tablet but Verizon makes you switch to a share plan and that would end my unlimited data. I don't like any of their tablets either. So I was looking around and saw someone had gotten the N7 to use the Verizon LTE so I was curious if someone has got it working on Ting which uses the Sprint network.

No. The N7 is not capable of using Sprint's LTE network at all. The end.

Thank you for the quick reply. That just shows how little I know. I thought since both were CMDA networks they would be compatible. My mistake. This sucks since Verizon's data is way too expensive.

I'd recommend just finding a GSM network. The N7 works on AT&T and T-Mobile as well, and by extension works on prepaid networks which utilize AT&T or T-Mobile (Straight Talk, Aio, etc.)

Well, it won't work on Sprint and you said Verizon is too expensive. Why wouldn't you consider using AT&T or T-mobile?

AT&T service is just horrible in my area. I could give T-mobile a shot I guess.

[Q] Candian Nexus S on AT&T ?

Is it possible that I can use the Canadian Nexus S Rogers/Fido on AT&T with the cheap "dumbphone" $15 data plan? The reason I'm asking this is because it's the only unlimited data plan ATT still has and I have been using a Motorola Milestone on AT&T with the cheaper dataplan for about a year now. Anyone who's running it on AT&T please reply with some insight. Thank You!

I don't see why it wouldn't work...just pop in the sim card from your milestone into your nexus s. Not sure how it works in the US though.

It will work, but with the nexus one some people were getting auto upgraded due to smartphone use. I don't know if the same as seen on the Nexus s .

Make sure the Canadian Nexus S supports AT&T's 3G. I have a Nexus S on AT&T network and I am stuck with only 2G...
hmm.. it seems that the Canadian Nexus S will work fine on AT&T but I'm mostly worried about being upgraded to the smartphone plan like krohnjw said. If anyone else can elaborate that would be great because I'm looking to buy one within an hour. Again thank you all for your input!

Make sure the canadian nexus s isn't the wind/mobilicity version. Rogers/Fido will perfect on att. If don't inform att on the phone you're currently using there shouldn't be any reason for them to suspect that you're using a smartphone. If you happen to be racking up some crazy data per month, only then would they suspect you to have some sort of smartphone. Hope it works out for you.

Sure they can - they know your IMEI when you register on the network. Quite a few Nexus One owners got the dreaded SMS message indicating they were being switched to a Smart phone plan and losing their old data plans due to usage alone.

Can anybody else's use data and voice simotaneously

I just tried it and it works. Did not work on my 4s.

Would help if you mentioned carrier. I am assuming you're referring to Verizon LTE as ATT and T-Mobile support this since they are GSM.

I know on Verizon this is only possible when on LTE. On 3G it's still impossible due to the nature of CDMA.
Yeah know that. But it's still working on 3g in Memphis Tn.

Works on my htc rezound on lte and i'm fairly certain it's the only phone save the thunderbolt that can also do it on cdma.
EDIT: Yup, works like a champ!
On SIII on vzw 3g also works when on calls
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Read somewhere that this was possible due to the dual radios in the phone...
And I just tried it... and it worked, so yes, it can do voice and data simultaneously!
data and calls work on sprint simultaneously 3g and LTE (in theory LTE anyway)

Both rezound and thunderbolt can do data and voice over 3G cdma as they both have dual 3G radios.
I didn't think the GSIII could though. Am I reading right that people with sprint and this phone can?
That'd be nice if the Verizon version can. One thing I love about my rezound.

it's not actually a limitation of cdma, it's a limitation of Verizon, and i actually believe it's an artificial limitation, likely to "protect their network and users", as they like to claim for everything....
i have done it a few times on my Sprint gs3, on 3g, since I'm stuck without lte in my city right now.

As in, be on a phone call and browse the net at the same time? Yep....but I've been able to do that since my Atrix 2....dont remember if my x10 could.

I was just doing some WiFi tethering and I received a phone call... Noticed I was still getting emails. My first thought was that my laptop automatically reconnected to my work's wireless connection. NOPE! I verified again with an outbound call... Data works on the phone and over tether DURING the phone call. Supposedly this was going to be a feature of EVDO Rev. A, but Sprint had not initiated it yet. This is freaking fantastic. I guess our phones started using 3G for voice
Sprint SGSIII blue
Sprint enabled this under their network as part of Sprint Vision. It is basically an advanced 1X data network that allows data while on phone calls. Only the newer phones with certain frequencies support it. Doesn't force us to use 4G or Wi-Fi if we want data and phone calls together. IPhones do not support this unless you're on a GSM network which Sprint isn't. Sprint is CDMA like Verizon.

I noticed this during a call yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. When I was reading about this earlier, I thought it would be a feature supported only by towers that had eHRPD support but this is pretty awesome in itself.

Internation Version N7100 unlocked

Does any one know if the N7100 unlocked version will work with AT&T 4G daga? I know LTE is impossible. I broke my Galaxy S3, trying to figure out should I buy the AT&T one or the unlocked version.
N7100 unlocked works fine on ATT network. I am using it now on Straight talk which is using ATT. Of course no LTE, but Im averaging between 5 and 6 mbps.
Thanks, do you think it is close to 4g or hspa?
Just want to make sure its not like 3G lol.

I will be coming over to the US next month (specifically LA), and I am carrying international Note 2 N700 unlocked.
Would AT&T Straight Talk be the best bet for me in terms of speeds and call rates? Where do I pick up the Straight talk SIM from?
Thanks!
Mybwifes s3 gets about 7-8 meg down speeds while I average between 2 to 4. For some its OK. We are on the other side of the US in MD. Speeds could be faster in CA.

I'd imagine any corporate store would have them, but I dunno how they'll handle it. They may try to upsell you all sorts of stuff or tell you you need a special plan if you tell them it's going in a Note 2. I'd just ask for a prepaid micro-SIM.
Thanks, but can I buy Straightalk SIM in an AT&T store? I thought it was a different company!

Nope. Even if you're just going to use hsdpa the n7105 is better as it has dc-hsdpa capability so it'll be up to twice as fast in areas att have rolled out dc-hsdpa.

As far as data speeds go, you will get hspa+ and nothing more. Varies from place to place but for me averages around 5mb

Simultaneous voice and data over 3g on Sprint?

No, it won't. SVDO isn't supported on any U.S. carrier that operates via CDMA.
Here are the FCC documents for the Sprint variant. Open RF Exposure Info 1 and scroll down to page 8 of the .PDF (1.6 in the document). The hardware isn't there for SVDO.

Turbo on other US networks, (T-Mobile and AT&T)

Has anyone had the chance to test it on other networks? I know it should work on T-Mobile with lte, but I'm debating whether to hold out a month for a international model, in hopes of it having the right lte bands for T-Mobile and no vzw bloat. Or a dev edition. Anyone else on the same boat?

It is impossible to purchase this phone without activating it on the Verizon network, which means you will need a contract or someone on a Verizon contract willing to activate it for you.
They will not let you buy the phone at retail and walk out of the store without activation. I have already tried, multiple ways. I do, however, have an active AT&T SIM and could perhaps try it. But I'd rather not.
Rumor is that Motorola has AT&T and T-Mobile versions on the way, be patient.
Yes I put my ATT sim in the phone.
It comes up with a warning that the sim card you're using is not from Verizon.
You can dismiss it and notice that you will see AT&T instead of Verizon Wireless at the bottom of the home screen.
The data icon shows 3G but speeds are more like HSPA+ speeds.
Voice and SMS not a problem.
I did not try sending a video in a text though.
APNs can be set and even after I did I did not see a 4GLTE icon.
Interestingly enough when I was done and put the Verizon SIM back in, the AT&T APN settings I put in earlier were completely gone, only the Verizon one was showing.
If TMO has a version that would be the one to get as they most likely will NOT have a locked bootloader AND you can walk out without activating at all, just pay cash or charge it, etc.
I have a friend with a TMO and give the associate that number and name on the account and tell the associate it's a gift.

You must be in an area that only has band 17 LTE for AT&T. This phone has band 2 and 4 LTE for AT&T and they are unlocked straight from verizon.
I am very interested in this phone but i will wait for the GSM version that will include band 17.
Since it is a Snapdragon phone I'm sure you can QPST unlock all the band. I did it on my G3 pretty painless but you can really mess some things up if you are not careful

Since it is a Snapdragon phone I'm sure you can QPST unlock all the band. I did it on my G3 pretty painless but you can really mess some things up if you are not careful

Can't unlock if there's not root or unlocked bootloader....

Ok, that makes sense. the icons I have seen are G, 3G, and 4GLTE. I am on LTE most of the time and gotten download speeds of 46Mbs on LTE. When it is on 3G, the network type says UMTS.

Yes, HSPA+ is really 3G+ same difference. 3G=HSPA .'4G' = HSPA+
But in reality LTE is really the 4th Gen. In the states here they f'ed the naming so they can sound like it's blazing fast....

I just bought the phone today and swapped in my Tmobile Nano Sim. Its working perfectly with full LTE in Chicago. I had to add the Apn settings under mobike network to get it to work. Whenever I reboot the phone a notification reminds me that i'm not using a verizon sim. Its easily dismissed. I cant be happier, this is the "Nexus" I wanted all along.
