[Q] Gummy Android 4.4 - [11/14/13] - Root access - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi,
I installed this rom from Nov 14th, and I couldn't get root.
I tried flashing it from CWM, but still, no root access.
SuperSU says it couldn't install the binaries.
Does anyone has the same problem, or better yet, a solution?
This rom is really fast, the only thing stopping me from using it as a daily driver is not having root access.
I appreciate your help in advance.

Why not download the CM rom from their site. If you are i337 thinks is already loki'd
I run the 11/13 one no issues
Not sure on your root issue as haven't flashed Gummy. A little too aosp for me atm.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/unofficial-cm/files/Nightlies/jflteatt/20131113/
use the 208mb one under parent folder

nightlies are going to work ok one night and not ok the next as they are changing things around alot with the builds till they get a stable release

Thank you for your reply rugmankc.
Does CM comes rooted? or is it a method to root it? Does everything works? I read about some broken features, like bluetooth, IRDA, WIFI and Camera.
My only issue with gummy, is that I can't get root. Everything else works fine.

[ROM] CM11 for Otter

Not my work, but I found this when looking for rastakat for my manta.
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm11&device=otter
TWRP WILL NOT WORK, AS IT FAILS WHEN FLASHING KITKAT BASED ROMS. TRY COTR INSTEAD, BUT THAT IS STILL NOT GUARANTEED.
The only recovery that worked on manta was CWM, but that's out for the otter obviously...
I would also assume to use Paranoid Android's odexed Gapps(so ART compiler works, and doesn't FC Gapps all the time)
Gapps: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/gxxxpkbcke4yi/PA_GApps_-_Official_Releases
And finally, CM11 might be pre-rooted, but if it isn't here's SuperSU
http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
Can anyone confirm if it works? I haven't had time to flash yet.
Trying now
---------- Post added at 01:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 AM ----------
It won't install with COTR or TWRP. So close ...
Actually, it is saying it is for Blaze devices and not Otter, but it says otter in the build.prop and it looks like a 1st gen to me.

Okay, that's what I feared. Either TWRP or COTR have to be updated before they can flash KitKat ROMS. I am not sure why, but until that happens we can only look on and wait...

Here you go. I zipped up all 3 files you will need
Do Not flash my zip.
extract the 3 zips out to sd first and then flash.
flash twrp 2.6.3.1 first
Reboot recovery
then rom
then gapps.
no wifi.. Very fast

Awesome, thanks. Did you mess with the flashing/installer script? Let's try to get this thread moved to the dev section. Someone might be able to figure out the wifi issue and it might be a good base for others who might be working on a KitKat rom.

Yes i removed the blaze references on the updater script. Flashes and boots fine.
Just installed it. Wifi Doesn't work for now and its some graphical glitches but It hasn't been posted yet so its acceptable.
Just downloaded cm11 for otter from loosethisskin on goo.im. Only been playing with it for an hour. Wifi does work but it does have some graphic hiccups. Seems much faster than 4.3

The ROM over at fitsnugly.euroskank. [com] /?rom=cm11&device=otter has been updated to cm-11-20131117.1708-otter and it is very nice. Just make sure to update latest Recovery version or it won't flash.
Was loving the 20131116 build, wifi worked and everything seemed stable enough to run my apps after I got it all setup. Unfortunately, after updating to the 20131117 build, wifi no longer works (dirty flashed for the 1117 update). And reverting back I still have no wifi. The off/on is disabled. Maybe I will try a factory reset and reinstall...
___
Update: I did a Factory Reset and then flashed both versions, still no wifi. It is still disabled/greyed out. After several attempts I realized I wiped everything but system and sd... *sigh*
Wiped system, all is good...
Anyone know how to get those nifty transparent bars with our build?

No data and poor signal on ANY ROM except stock.

Hey guys.
Im having a problem connecting to the Verizon mobile network when Im on ANY ROM besides Stock 4.1.2.
Im guessing this is a radio/baseband problem?
Any help on the subject is MUCH appreciated.
I've seen various posts where folks on non-stock ROMs have signal issues. On my previous RAZR and now RAZR M only on stock do I get a solid signal. Non-stock gives me only fair 4G and drops to nothing when venture into 3G. Argggh's kernel based off stock I believe did help some but not give me as good a connection as stock. Suspect Moto propriety source would be needed. So for a solid connection and best battery life I stay on stock.
Maybe try MIUI?

Although this may be true, I have experienced great battery life and few signal issues with the MIUI v5 ROM for our device.

No matter what custom rom you flash you must restore the stock partition first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641
Don't know if it's placebo or not, but I've found the.4.4 bases Roms seem to be a bit better than 4.2 and 4.3 or CM 10.1 or CM 10.2.
As a matter of fact, I just went back to a DST stock ROM to rule that out as a problem. Back on CM11 and there's virtually no difference.

Thanks for the fast response aviwdoowks! I ended up using Matts Util to flash back to stock rom. Then re flashed CWM recovery. 4g is back, wifi works great. All is working perfect !!!!! Backup has been made, so this time I will not get into trouble and can just flash back to stock if anything happens.
When I have some time I will try loading CM10.1 on it again and see If I can get the phone to work with a custom rom and maintain good 4g reception. If not, then I guess there is more to do... Thanks again!

Twrp & cwmr both do not restore all of the partitions.
That is why I made my restore thread.
You can be on a custom ROM & have no data you still have to go back to Rsd to fix!!!!!
But data must be wiped before Rsd.
BTW
Rant
I am on bone stock to fix my SD swap...
Does it ever suck! Aosp keyboard & my favorite browser maxthon HD. Day & night.
Advice: get mhous33's DST at least, smart keyboard & maxthon hd !!
Tapatalk & xda app are not as good.
I cannot edit the last line!

End rant.
...the op may have your same problem.
More rant : the aosp KB sucks, bone stock rom sucks, WiFi is better on mhous33's DST
OK I will post a new thread bout it...

[Q] Root Iconia A500

Can someone please help me. I have an Acer iconia a500 that I want to install a custom ROM onto. When I follow the instructions to find the cpuid and sbk. I am told the file doesn't exist. Holding down the power and volume up buttons end in an android graphic with a triangle error. I have tried every tool I could find to help with no result. A lot of the links now link you to malware. I have a galaxy s2 which I have rooted numerous times. My aim is to install omnirom KitKat final version with root access. I have also done a factory reset and I have ICS 4.0.3
I am starting to think that there might be a fault with my tablet.
Sad to say development stopped shortly after it started on this device

I have found that omni ROM still supports this device. My main problem seems to be that I can't boot into recovery mode. It just comes up with an error graphic. I am happy with the tablet for what I use it for but am finding more apps are incompatible. Hence why I want to upgrade the ROM.
I too am looking to root an A500 for a friend and I am running into walls.
When you see the android laying down and has a punctuation mark on top.....it means your using stock recovery!

No tool that I have come across is working or downloading. I am only getting malware junk like "EZ Downloader". I have the CPUID and SBK but can't find any software tool that still downloads properly.

Negative Effects / Problems with Rooting Nexus 6P

Have ANY of you who rooted your Nexus 6P experienced any negative effects or problems in the months afterwards? Meaning slower speeds, response, battery draining faster, crashes, freezes, etc....? I am just trying to see if there is a pattern anywhere from those who are rooted. I am sure it cant be but it'll be for my own peace of mind if anything in the future if I am to keep this phone for another while.
I also know of many apps that CAN be used only after you root, but are there also things you can NOT do after you root that annoyed any of you?
No problems after rooting here. The 6P is way more responsive and battery friendly after root. The only crashes I ever got was caused by myself and easily fixed because of root. The only negative is the tail chase with safety net. As of right now though rooting with Magisk will pass safety net. There might be a few apps that Magisk can't hide from root but none that I use.
Is anyone else having trouble keeping root? I have the NRD90U and I rooted via Nexus toolkit and installed pure Nexus. I go to download SuperSU and it said it couldn't find root access. Did I do something wrong besides using the toolkit to root?
I'm having issues finding a Rom that works on my 8.1 nexus 6p. Every Rom I like and Install their is always a issue. I installed the DU 8.1 Rom and Gapps and vender and the Rom and vender did nice, but once I installed the 8.1 arm gapp it said their was a issue. I figured I didn't do the wipe which, I did all except internal storage. This time it was both vender and gapps. Any advice? Should I just forget the DU vender and flash the stock image back?

Did you use the Nexus toolkit? I experienced the same thing until I did the adb route.

Looking for the most recent stock rom to flash using TWRP so i can keep root.

so I'm running RR Unofficial and it's nice to use but the phone just can't keep up with it all performance wise. I was thinking of going back to stock moto x rom but I want to keep root so to do this I was thinking I would just flash a rom using TWRP containing the stock rom from moto. But i'm having a hard time finding a download for it. Anyone able to link me to one?? By the way my moto x is my backup phone from my Pixel, it's why i'm using it over my Pixel right now since I need to wait for my replacement device ever since google screwed up with their latest patch.
You can't keep root.
You have to flash boot(kernel). @silvernirvash
