[Q] How to extract a ROM - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i want to extarct the ROM from my moms S4 any way to do that? and i preffer a way that wont damage the device or any data on it i just need a copy of the ROM

What exactly are you wanting to achieve by doing that ?

The only way I know is to make a backup on her phone in CWM and then restore it on yours.
Pointless though.

What's the point in doing that?
If your mom's phone has a stock rom in it right now, why not just download the stock rom
from SamMobile.com ?
If your mom's phone has some custom rom in it, why not simply download the same
custom rom which you can find here in xda ?
Or perhaps you just want to spy on your mom and see all her texting, email and phone numbers? LOL

My moms S4 has a modem that works well in israel the i9505 works badly if its bought not from sanny ( a i9505 supplier ) and my is a T mobile from the states so yes getting her rom would work best for me and i couldnt get to copy her modem to the PC always stops before starting like its blocked or something

Ummmm you should make sure that its not an i9500 if it is that will explain why it doesn't seam to be as good I think.

Hers is a different model than yours. The ROMs are interchangeable but the modems are not. You cannot use a 9505 modem on a t mobile 919. Besides, the modem isn't part of the ROM so backing up her ROM wouldn't let you move the modem to your phone.

Yeah but extracting/flashing a ROM on the s4 will not change the modem. Modem can only be changed with Odin or heimdall and flashing the wrong modem=bad news. If you're asking how to extract a ROM to fix modem issues you probably shouldn't be playing with your modem... but here you go.

Dude i live in israel why give me T mobile antenas?

Well, there are a plethora of modems in there. Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada for a few different firmwares. I don't know what exact phone or baseband you have but I linked that for the reading about modems.

There is history to show that this may work, but no one will know for sure until the bootloader is unlocked/there is a custom recovery.
I'm waiting on this answer as well.

A German version of the I9505 firmware is available via Kies according to SamMobile. However, I'm not sure if Kies will install it on the AT&T i337 or if it would even make a difference. Someone in a different thread said they installed it, but gave no detail. I don't know if it is bootlocked or not or if it includes a different baseband or not. It is still better to wait until a recovery method can be found for the i337 just in case.
Ok i'm going to wait for it
Is Kies the safeist method to go with when restore the device?

Mexican phones have unlocked bootloader, I rooted using motochopper and used the GooManager to install the TWRP for recovery so you should be safe to do that.
As for the ROM I think a best bet is to install a i337M Canadian rom, I saw a post earlier that I'm trying to find again saying they flashed a canadian version that had less bloatware without issues.
Also in case you want to go back to telcel's rom you can follow the following steps prior so you can get Telcel's rom from kies since its not available on sammobile or other sites yet.

It's already been done and it works fine, except for the radios/modem, so there is not signal or wifi.
Once we have a modem to flash separately for the I337M everything should work.

Hey so I used 7-zip and opened up the stock telus firmware I got off sammobile and I was able to pull out the modem.bin file. Not to sure if I can just flash it through odin but im hoping I can so I can install omega rom. If anyone know what to do next let me know please
Wondering if you can flash a full I9505 firmware package and then boot straight to download mode and flash the telus modem file with Odin. If yes, that would make my month, at least.

[Q] Turning the i9505 into i9505G : because of the bootloader ?

I'm wondering why we cannot flash directly the I9505GUEUBMFP (4.3) - U.S.A (XAR) firmware on "standard" i9505 as Faryaab told us here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342377
After reading some posts in dev section (Aerys is trying to bypass the problem, but I have no news since yesterday...), it seems that the bootloader won't allow complete flash of the i9505G firmware, as it has a "write protection enabled". Is this the main problem that avoid flashing ?
So, are we forced to use only unofficial ports of i9505G firmwares ? There is another way to unlock/bypass such protection to flash the original i9505G firmware ? And what do we really miss when we flash/use ported ROMs than the original one made by Google ?
Thanks for your answers !
Yea we cant flash the .pit/modem/bootloader from I9505G on our I9505. Maybe it can be bypassed but idk how.
Write protection: Enabled (in Downloadmode) is our main issue. THis prevents us from flashing other devices odin files.
One reason: Modem.

This flash might be possible on S4 of the same carrier but not on our international edition.

It is possible to flash part of the odin files of the leaked 4.3 firmware, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342377&page=14
When the i9505g is available we can see how it differs from the original. Im sure we can then flash the bootloader etc to our i9505 completely.

[Q] How to: Official Update to XXUBMEA?

Can someone tell me why again XXUBMF8 is better than XXUBMEA?
I mean what are the differences compared to one another,
the only thing I know is that they both support App-2-Sd.
Which is actually ofcourse the most important thing to know,
but what other <better improved> features does the XXUBMF8 (DBT) have than XXUBMEA (DBT)?
And how are overall user experiences with both versions?

Good modem for Philippines(Globe)

I'm running Golden eye rom. And my baseband is I9505DXUAMDM. The problem is, i'm having trouble with the network. Are you on att? Or do you have an i337m? The mk2 firmware on that link isn't going to work for you.
Edit, try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43851818

I337 is the AT&T, but since you said MG1 and that firmware never existed for us it's I337m (Canadian like you said). In any case, go to sammobile.com and you should be able to find your firmware.

So I guess go to sammob find firmware and then follow the link posted above
You might have to odin the firmware a couple of times. I usually odin the first time, reset the CSC code back to what ever carrier you are using, then odin again and then setup your accounts and such. If the new firmware has a new radio, it might take two times for it to grab.
