This.
AOSP would require a different kernel which we can not flash/install. Dev edition Note 3 , most likely no issues since the BL is unlocked, but not our retail versions.

This^ and even with an unlocked bootloader it still takes a lot of work to port it

I saw Beans Rom and Hyper Drive Rom and thought it was as easy as removing all the samsung junk from the Rom. Looks like thats not the case.
Anyway, thanks for replying guys.:good:

Galaxy s4 to Google Edition S4

Hello
is there anyway you can flash the stock image and recovery from a GE s4 onto to standard s4? so will pick up updaes etc..?
see this done on HTC One... wondered if it can be done? or does it have to be via a Rom?
thanks
would like to know the same
Not yet. Bootloader needs to be unlocked to transform S4 in S4G
Not possible at the moment, you can have the google edition roms though but again no OTA's and same partition sizes

Really a little confused about this answers...
We all can flash a custom recover on the S4's, previously rooted, so this by reading some explanations on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212992
Means that the bootloader is already unlocked. Or not?
F.
Bootloader does nothing. Janjan 4.2.2 ge rom ftw

wow, are you sure htc one can transform into htc one google edition?
if thats true then i think s4 can do it too... just need it time

Confused on rooting

First off sorry if I have missed something but I have been doing some reading but am slightly confused.
I am looking at a Verizon Note 3 on ebay to keep unlimited data since I just sold my Note 2 which was rooted and running a custom rom which is kinda a must for me. Where I am confused is I see tutorials on how to root the note 3 but I also see a petition to have verizon unlock the bootloader. When I hear locked bootloader I think no rooting and custom roms. So did verizon just recently lock the note 3 down like they did with the note 2 4.3 update? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Basically I just want to be able to root my Note 3 but am not worried about voiding any warranties with verizon since I'm buying it on ebay or something. Feel free to post links to this answer since I'm not opposed to reading just kinda overwhelmed right now.
Thanks for answering my stupid question and have a great weekend!!!

Oh I don't doubt it for a second!! That's why I was confused saw plenty of custom ROMs but didn't really pay attention to tw or not. Not really an issue since I've been having crazy battery draining issues on everything I put 4.4.2 on. Haven't done my research but I'm sure it won't be long till 4.4 tw hits the note 3 anyways.

Ya, Sprints already getting it.

What is "locked" on the retail device is the recovery and boot partitions. They are crypto-signed and verified early in the boot sequence. Until the phone is hacked, it means it is impossible to boot a non-Samsung kernel or non-Samsung recovery. Even if you intentionally blow the Warranty flag on the phone, this behavior will not change.
So, while you can root, whatever "ROM" you want to try and use must play nice with a STOCK kernel (& ramdisk). So, no CM for example.
Also - because of "version upgrade locking", if you upgrade a stock kernel (let's say MJ7 -> MJE), you might not be able to use Nandroid restores of previous ROMs you formerly used any longer... depending on how tightly the ROM depends on kernel & ramdisk behaviors.
And one more thing - the Safestrap "psuedo-recovery" actually boots the beginning of a stock ROM (or whatever you have in the "stock slot"). One consequence of this is that you no longer have a separately bootable recovery to fix up mistakes or restore backups from. If you wedge the primary OS somehow, the consequence of that will be a loss of all data on the phone which is not backed up, and a trip to Odin to restore a pure stock firmware ... and starting all over from square 1.
(If you buy a Note 3, you might want to consider a BIG removable SD card - then you will have room for media/backups/etc that is not vulnerable to an Odin flash)
So basically, you have a limited form of rooting available.

Note 3 asokp roms?

Will we ever be able to flash asokp roms like paranoid android on the note 3 on boot strap or anything?
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
There is no way to flash a kernel and asop will not work with stock n3 kernel. So untill there is a way to flash a kernel on a locked bootloader, no.

If you have a dev edition then you might have but you certainly didn't flash that on the Verizon Note 3.

Samsung apps on custom roms

Is there anyways to get Samsung apps on a custom ROM? I find that while the 4.4.2 Roms generally work great, that lack of SApps and especially the one hand functionality, really reduce how great these Roms can be.
Or is the best bet just to root Samsung's Roms?
Thanks in advance.
Never heard of the leaked 4.4.2 kitkat Samsung rom? ???

I think he is referring to AOSP 4.4.2 ROMS.
For the OP, I don't think it is possible, and believe me, I am in the same position as you are, whether use the boring Samsung ROM with all those features or to use nice looking 4.4.2 ROMs with no Samsung features
Why wouldn't it be possible? Aren't the Samsung apps just apks that can be extracted? Or is it all based only on touch wiz?
Sent from my SM-N900W8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its based on the touchwiz framework. Yeah, it's apks and you might be able to install them but they might either not start up, work properly or not be able to install.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Apks require TWiz framework to work which is impossible to get in AOSP ROMs. AFAIK, MIUI is the only custom ROM which supports SApps.

Can I flash nc4, nc8, nc9, etc. Roms over a nb1 ROM?

In the Att all thing mk2 nb1 section it has all this ROMs that are all 4.4.2 based but I wasn't sure if they would work and could be flashed over a nb1 ROM in another slot

To be on this forum and understand your phone you got to do some reading. This question has been made hundred of times. When i join this forum they would be really nasty for asking the same question over and over.
I will give you an answer anyway.
Since you have one of the latest builds. AT&T has locked the bootloader which makes very hard the process of rooting and installing custom roms. In other words you can only flash TW roms.

Yes i knew that nb1, mk2, and mf3, all have lock bootloaders which mean i can only flash tw based roms. I was asking if the others like nc8 nc9 build numbers are like variants of nb1 or something like that since they are listed under 4.4.2 tw based roms. now im thinking that those are for people who had what ever build came before mf3 that can use loki to flash the latest roms.lease tell me if im wrong.

You can flash any build that is the same android version. The only thing that people with Loki get are AOSP ROMs. Other bases like nc9 and others are still Touchwiz.

Yes. Any Touchwiz ROM from any S4 except the 8 core I9500 will work.
