Why is 4.3 extremely laggy? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've been using CM 10.2 for a while and decided to go back to the stable build of CM 10.1. It's way faster. Does anyone know why this is?

Are you talking about the M1 release? or a nightly build?

They both exhibit the same stutter. All the CM 10.2 builds have just a touch of lag, and the latest nightly has a lot of it. The stable 10.1 ROM, though, is incredible without needing to overclock. It's a stark difference, and I'm curious about what's going on under the hood.

Not really sure of the exact reason but I know it's kernel related. The 4.2 kernel is better. That and 4.3 probably is a bit bigger RAM wise and all. 4.4 is insanely fast though lol

If you were running 7.1 stable, there are many enhancements. Worth doing. If you were running one of the later nightlies, fixes some bugs.

I couldn't get 1200 mhz overclocking or Volume+ to work with my old version of 7.1. They work fine now.
Also the icons in the notification bar changed from green to teal... uhh... sweet.
I upgraded to 7.2 from nightly 253 and am liking it. It seems to be running a bit smoother, battery life is a bit better and haven't had any sleep of death issues (which were occurring with 253). I think it is all due to the power of teal!
Oh, yes, 7.2.0-RC1-encore is definitely worth your while.
While you're at it, try out the CM9 nightlies for fun and then follow that up with installing 7.2.0-RC1 on your Nook.
I don't experience sleeps-of-death like I did on all official and hacked and KANG builds of 7.1.X.
It's faster. It's snappy. It really does have the right DPI support.
It has iptables.
Give it a try.

CM10 stable?

Will there, like, ever, be a CM10 stable release to our device?

Well, think about your question...
The TF devs work hard to port ROMs and try to fix all the bugs. Once/if JB firmware and source is released for the Transformer, then things will get a lot smoother. Until then, just be glad there are people willing to make great ROMs when ASUS loses interest.

Try RaymanFX's (currently @ V6) CM10-based ROM.
You'll be happy, as long as your WiFi signal is strong enough (WiFi has been working fine for us). There are a few minor things that don't work, like Google Talk, but it's a pretty solid ROM. RaymanFX supports it well.

I tried RaymanFX V6 rom, it is fine but has some issues, no deep sleep, some RR, but the CM10 is great on the TF101.... let's hope the kernel he uses gets a bit more stable...
I want to give Team EOS a try too today...
i have CM 10 V 7 nightly from the 25th. its pretty stable accept it doesnt wake up sometimes. other than that its great.

I agree, CM10 V7 is working really well for me so far.
Give the eos rom a try. Feels much cleaner/smoother then cm10.
OK, but how I can install cyan on my tf101 on Stock Rom? I have never done it.

I have had good stability with the various CM10 jellybean variants I have tried lately, were stable and even Talk worked with the right Gapps package. As far as Jellybean itself goes, the EOS3 Jellybean builds were my favorites (mainly for wifi solidity), and the latest EOS4 4.2 prelim build (preview 69 IIRC?) seems to work great now too. Takes an epoch to run quadrant, but still smooth and seemingly solid in my seat of pants assessment.

Recommendations for a fast, stable Rom?

My Asus Transformer seems very slow. It lags up all the time, I often lose responsiveness to programs, ect. Right now, I basically just use the tablet+keyboard to type notes during class, but I'd prefer it if it was a little faster.
Anyone know of a good, stable, relatively bug free ROM that would boost performance?
Android 4.0, I recommend Megatron. I ran that until 4.1 came out.
Android 4.1, I recommend TeamEOS 3 build 81 or MattmanWRX CM10 Paranoid Android hybrid.
Android 4.2, I recommend TeamEOS 4 build 91
I really like cm 10 gierdo's nightly (JB 4.1) with the kat kernel. There's a link around here somewhere for a great, easily flashable, TWRP tablet recovery.
The EOS 4.2 works great, but the tablet UI in 4.1 is so much better. I think google has unofficially "fragmented" these last two jelly bean releases, 4.1 is amazing on tablet, 4.2 is amazing on phone.

I'd personally been using CM10 4.1 Gierdo's nightlies over a month and it's pretty stable for daily use. But I'd since move on to Team EOS JB 4.2 with Timburu latest B136 released and it's even smoother and faster. Very stable and reliable too. 4.2 is definitely way better than 4.1 on my TF101.. You'll see the different..

EOS 4 with Kat kernel. Stable builds with all the updates come out about every 4 or 5 days. Preview releases come out almost daily.
It's the only JB 4.2.1 ROM/Kernel combo I've tried that is almost 100% perfect.

With all the awesome development of ROMs that is going on in here, i still recommend Revolver or ARHD.
I;ve tried all of the JB ROMs, and still the "stock-like" ICS ROMs are the most stable and imo have the best battery life.

CM10 sirkorro's build
I have tried quite a number of ROMS, most recently using EOS4 trying many updates. I always had different issues, most recently laging badly. Finally gave up and moved to korro's build of CM10. I really like it. Also using the recommended KAT.
My TF101 has never been happier.
Smooth, fast and just works. So far (4days now).

If you stick to the "nightly" builds of EOS4 (which actually get released about once a week now) instead of the previews, and use a proven version of the KAT Kernel (85 had issues including lag, but is fixed in 92), EOS4 runs perfectly. Even most of the previews are great, but they come untested and can have issues.

I only started messing with my tf101 recently, and the first rom I used was RaymanFX's cm10, which was great and stable. Later switched to EOS4 latest preview, just for the fun of flashing, and it turned out to be stable, too. Never had any serious issue.
IMO, the latest EOS4 build with the latest KAT kernel is better than anything ASUS ever released, and I had no issues with most of the ASUS stock releases.

I also flashed EOS4 a week ago but I had some issues.
1. Lag when opening recent apps
2. Very big lag when outputting to a TV screen using HDMI
3. Overclocked at 1,6 Ghz I obtained only 2300 benchmark points using Quadrant and 6300 using Antutu
Do you have the same issues?
I am curious what score you have.

1) I only had this issue running KAT kernel version 85. Every other kernel/combo has worked fine for me.
2) Never tried, so I don't know.
3) My Antutu scores are much higher. I can get over 6300 running at 1.2GHz. At 1.6GHz which I normally don't do, I've gotten around 8000. I haven't run Quadrant in a long time, but I know it was much higher than 2300.

[Q] Scroll stuttering and kernel question.

Hello world! My brother recently bought a Nexus 7. He unlocked it and did all sort of nasty things to it.
First of all, he installed latest CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly and changed the kernel to latest M-kernel.
When he slowly scrolls, there is stuttering (sometimes if you focus) and it's annoying. Is there any way to fix it?
Now for the kernel question. I want to show him a kernel like Siyah on Galaxy S 2 9100(I'm an S 2 owner) because this particular one provides stability and performance. Is there such kernel for the Nexus 7? (If you know about Siyah)
Thanks in advance guys!
P.S: The Google search I did was saying something about Google Currents, but it's not installed here.
BUMP! Come on guys, you can do better than that!
Both Franco kernel and Faux kernel are great. Franco's does not support overclocking, Faux does. The one I use is clocked at 1.4 - not too high, but it does make a difference. Smooth and stable.
Well, which one do you use? Care to mention?

M-Kernel mr1 easily seems like the best choice to me. Greatly improved performance with just slightly worse battery life (because of OC).
Any stability issues you encounter are likely a cause of the ROM you're using. Especially if you're using a nightly build.
The "stuttering" is either because of the hardware in the Nexus 7 or because of Android itself. I'm pretty sure you won't find a ROM or Kernel that removes that.
It's because there's a minimum scroll distance, that makes it look stuttery when you move your finger very small distances.
Scrolling with what app? Some always stutter.

Nook stable release that performs adequately

What is the most stable release for nook color with good performance these days? I am finding some lag in at least two of the CM 10.1 roms that I have tried. Any comments appreciated.

I've tried all the CM9, CM10 and CD10.1 ROMs, and they all lag too much for this old gear and my tastes. CM7.2 (Gingerbread) is still my favorite. My advice... start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873

I tried the various CM 10.1 roms, but eventually went back to MiRaGe 7.2. The lag on 10.1 was annoying but tolerable, but on 10.1 I would have to recharge every night, while with 7.2 I can get a few days use out of my tablet without finding it dead if I forget to plug it in at night.
Personally, mateorod's aosp is amazing. Good battery life, Zero lag. No serious bugs.

I would have to concur with going back to 7.2 and Mirage in particular. 10.x all seemed sluggish, which is a shame because they've done some beautiful work on the roms and getting them to work. If only we could have the 10.x look and functions with the 7.2 speed.
