Unpacking / Extracting OTA UPDATE.ZIP? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is it somehow possible to extract the downloaded OTA update.zip? In my case it's the MJ7. I got it on my Note 3 but can't extract / unpack the simple zip archive. Maybe it's encrypted? I wanna do it for a few testings. Did anybody else try that before and is having similar issues? How can I unpack it?
Thanks in advance.

Yes it is crypted. someone told me to repair the zip with disk repair utility before unziping it. I dit it and was able to see the major part of the zip.

I came across the Sony Tablet S tool as well as some kind of an "Acer OTA unpacker". Why not such a tool for Samsung OTA files? What are they encrypted with - the release key(s) from the OTACerts.zip archive which resides in /etc/security?
The header of the archive looks equal to the one of a simple zip file. But the device downloads the file from a server where this zip file resides as a binary (BIN) file. Looks like it's being downloaded and then just renamed.
I just figured out yesterday what the server address and it's folder structure to the related binary file of the MJ7 OTA update is.

Ok, at least i was able to use the following utility to get (create) a zip archive i was then able to investigate:
DiskInternals ZIP Repair
I just downloaded the DBT MJ3 to MJ7 OTA binary file from this URL:
Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 DBT OTA Update MJ3 to MJ7
Then i renamed the BIN file to update.zip and loaded it into the tool which then generated another zip archive which i was able to open. But as you said before: Not everything within the newly created archive is as it should be (a shame).

[Q] upgrading the Firmware from V9.2.1.11 to V9.2.1.27

Hi, I cannot upgrade the Firmware from V9.2.1.11 to V9.2.1.27. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I downloaded the zip file firmware into a SD as instructed and I had it extracted it before inserting to the Transformer but the files are not recognized as executable files by the Transformer.

The zip file you downloaded off the Asus website needs to be extracted. It is a zip file within a zip file.
I have done that as well.

Need INU India gt-9500 original MEA sys file

Can anybody provide me with the original sysytemui file found in system/apps as I have replaced with the modified without the backup and it is continuosly showing the message that sysui has stopped
Plz
If nobody provides the single systemui.apk you can try to extract it from original firmware by using [WINDOWS][TOOL]Android ICS JB EXT4 ImageFile Unpacker!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921399
Make a copy from your extracted i9500MEA firmware and rename .tar.md5 into zip.
Then extract system.img.ext4 an unpack with above-mentioned tool.

Thanks @Jozinek for first release
Is this for the Compact?
Edit: I've just seen the file name
doesn't show under Flashtool
Seems to have been packaged or compressed incorrectly. I have extracted the FTF, which appears to be an ordinary zip, and am making a bundle with the files from the zip with FlashTool, which I'll then try to flash on top of 2085...

file 6.0_concept_Z3compact_2099.ftf
6.0_concept_Z3compact_2099.ftf: Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract
right you are
missing meta-inf/manifest.mf file that's why flashtool won't recognize as ftf
Thanks, i can make a zip flashable prerooted whit prf creator?
I'm repackaging same as @LadFromWales85. Let's see how it goes
Yes i upload wrong file sorry
Open ftf files with 7zip file manager
Open attached meta-inf.zip, extraxt meta-inf folder and copy to ftf files on 7zip.
Flashed now, without your META-INF, though I need to factory reset as I haven't done it since Lollipop and Google Play Services randomly force closes, as does Album.
I really don't want to though, as without USB mass storage access to the internal memory I can't correct the file modify time for pictures and they get sorted wrong in galleries. That and I'll have a Z5p soon so don't want to invest too much time fiddling with this!

Any available mirror op? just download the file via mega and it got stuck on 99%
After adding the missing Meta-File everything worked like a charm THANK You.
Fix file uploading mega and mirror, when done i will add first post.
how to add the meta-file. I opened in 7zip the ftf file and extracted the meta.zip file but i don't get any option to paste file inside the opened 7zip program
Still waiting for the Ota to arrive. Don't understand why it takes so long...

no clue how reputable samsony.net is, but sammobile.com/firmwares is THE legit place to get tar.md5's. Slow as all hell, but its the source from whence they came

md5-error and extracting/installation error
re-downloading didn't work, so i don't think it's corrupted
I think the downloaded file is incomplete.
Try to extract the downloaded file with Winrar or 7zip.
If you see any error during extracting the firmware, your zip file has an error.
If you flash the firmware with odin, the program will check the md5-checksum of the file.
If you do not see any error message, the firmware file will be error free.
If the firmware zip file is t corrupt, download it again with another internet browser or CLEAN the internet browser cache first!
Sometimes the browser does not download the whole file again, because parts of it are in the browser cash!
Good luck!

[Discussion][ZE552KL] How could I extract just the firmware update of the .zip file ?

Hi,
So I'm actually running LineageOS 16, and I wish to keep it simple and just make the necessary firmware update (for security reasons). I wanted to directly attach the zip file with the correct SKU but the file is too large. And I suppose it can apply for any of Asus' manual update, so.
Here is the link : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-3-ZE552KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Could I extract the Firmware-update folder from the zip (I reckon it is the one thing I need, in my case) and somehow make an update out of it? I'm not too sure about how to do that, since Asus make it complicated in my opinion.
Thanks for your collaboration!
