[Q] help please!! need a backup NST with GL!! - Nook Touch General

Hello,
I was resizing and deleting partitions of my NSTGL with "mini tool partition wizard" on Windows 7, trying to decrease size of reserved B&N partition and increase others.
But i did something wrong and now my device is bricked!!! I haven´t a backup..... I´ve tried with Nookmanager selecting "Factory reset" but is also lost....
I have another NST witouth glowlight and backup but this backup doesn´t match on the NSTGL.
Where can I find a backup of NSTGL to restore on my device? It doesn´t mind rooted or not and is the UK version of Nook.
I hope with a backup and Nookmanager should work, no?
Any other idea??
EDIT: SOLVED!!! It works with the NST backup from my other device in NSTGL and light works well. Both have same firmware!!!
Thanks you very much!!!

Hi,
I have found a backup on internet and installed it, but is American version of NSTGL not the UK.
If someone could share me me an UK versión backup I'll be very grateful... Thanks!!
I have a problem with NOOK partition even with backup installed.
In device información settings appears "no data Storage available" and I even can't use this memory conected to the pc, as you can see at the image attached.
Do you know any solution??
EDIT: SOLVED
Thanks!!

Lost data, tried do restore from backup =>not working!!

Hi, I am new in this forum, sorry in advance for my english.
Today the battery from my QTEK 2020 went empty and the backup battery also. The device restarted itself and all the data were lost.
I am regurarly backing up all the data each time I connect to the USB cradle, so I thought.. Hmm no problem, I will restore it from the backup file. Then came the problem...
The device ID from the activesync and from the Qtek doesnt match anymore, so I cant restore the backup file.
How/where can I find this data in activesync so that it thinks that this is the same device like before?
P.S. I am only sure that the device name was "Pocket_PC" on QTEK, but the description I dont remember.
Hi Pipi,
Please see whether the below steps can help:
1) Open Activesync (do not put your PPC into the cradle). Select 'File' > 'Delete Partnership' > 'Yes' (repeat until all the partnerships are deleted)
2) Hardset your PPC (hold power button and soft-reset at the same time)
3) After hard reset, put your PPC in the cradle and let it form a new partnership with Activesync (your should get the default PPC name as Pocket_PC)
4) In Activesync, select 'Tools' > 'Backup/Restore'. Select the backup file you want to restore. Go to the Restore tab, press restore and everything will come back.
Remarks: Please make sure the Regional setting of the PPC after hard reset is the same when you do the backup.
Hope it can help ......
THX I will try, but after i have searched the forum for solutions, i found out that, if you do progressive backup, it is impossible to restore the data, except the full backup.
Is it true?
Yes, you need to use a full backup image to restore as incremental backup does not contain the full image of the PPC and cannot be restored.
i restore inc backup's all the time on my device
if it could not be restored why have the inc backup option at all ?
There are three types of backups -
Full backup - backs up everything
Incremental - backs up everything changed since the last full or incremental
Differential - backs up everything changed since the last full.
So - when you restore with incremental you must restore the last full backup and then all of the incrementals since that last full (in order).
When you restore with a differential you need to restore the last full and then the last differental . . . at most 2 restores.
Incremental backups take up less space and time but require more time to restore the system, whereas differentials take more space and time to backup, but take less time to restore the system.
HTH
Different device type
After installing NYDITOT virtual display, my Himalaya crashed bigtime!
Only a hard reset would work.
The problem is, that when I try to restore the backup I get this error saying that the backup was made on a different device type..
Thus rendering me helpless!
I've allready lost 300+ e-mails this way, so I don't trust the backup function any more.
I use newest version of Activesync...
This has happened twice in two days now..
I don't use NYDITOT any more..
hi bonzo,
it's not a big problem: just set the device name AND the regional setting (probably Norwegian for you) to what it was at the time of your backup.
ym
Aha!
So THAT'S why I didn't make it work..
Those darned regional settings!
Thanks a million!
I had the device name down, but didn't know about the regional settings..
yeah it's in the help in activesync
i had that problem once but activesync's help
gave the solution
one of the first time ever windows help help'd me
It was in the help file?
I swear, I read that file five times...
Desperate for a solution...
Oh well.. At least I've got it now..

SPB BACKUP - Problem- Please HELP

Hi everyone, I have a problem restoring my Vogue from the exe back up created with Spb Back up.
Here is the situation:
after a hard reset I restored my PPC from the back up file. Seamed like everything was fine until it rebooted (did it twice.. ??) and after it restarted the second time I noticed I could not use the phone function (could not bring up the phone screen from the hardware button or from start-phone) and I could not use the internet...no connection.
Also some programs like..ContactManager are not running properly.
did the restore couple of times same result.
any suggestions please ?
I tried taking the storage card out while doing the restore...still no luck.
maybe I should do a customized restore and uncheck some system items ?
can anyone help please ?
PS: if I just hard reset the phone to factory settings everything works fine, so the problem is clearly somewhere in the backup file.

Are you running any apps off the storage card? Or is an app pulling something from the storage card? I had recently done a full backup but my backup file is stored on the card and I have not run into any problems so far. Also have you tried restoring from a older backup file? I have mine set to the default keep 3.
update
well, I tried a customized restore and I unchecked "emals"...so it looks like that solved the problem. can use the phone and the internet just fine now.
everything seams fine as of yet
will let you know if anything else goes wrong.
I must say this SPB BACKUP is pretty sweet ! A+++++

Restore Failure

Hello,
I would appreciate ANY help on this matter. Yesterday i had no choice but to hard reset my phone. I always backup my phone every night, and thought (at the time) thank god! However, when i went into my sd card and clicked on the .exe file to restore the backup....it came up with an error message saying:
"The file Backup.exe cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
Isnt this type of file meant to self restore without the original program....seeing as i dont have the copy of sprite backup after hard resetting?
ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
If it helps the version of sprite backup i had before everything went haywire was Sprite Backup, HTC edition V6.2.3, Build 2330 (my paranoia makes me write these type of things down elsewhere)
THANKYOU again!
as far as i experience backup procedure
hi..
.. as far as i have experience ....sprite backup procedure ( there might be alternatives ...that i am not aware of but..) on my kaizer... for past 2 yrs and now ..blackstone..(hd ) you can only restore backup through sprite program..(installed on storage card or from sprite progam that should also be installed automatic with original installation on pc..?)i have found that i could also not click on.. backup .exe directly with stylus (i wanted to move .exe to another file...as it would freeze phone..but had to do it with pc...(cut and paste..etc..)i had to also ,when doing restores in the past ..open sprite program and select restore from within ....etc...
thus..i suggest..
if you do not have software any more on phone...is it not possible to get copy and re install it again ..and then try to do restore... selecting your original.exe you still have on sd card ...( i have done this once or twice ..and it worked for me ..but also .. failed a few times ..!! why i dont know...?)
...also as a safety measure i would copy backup.exe to pc.(temporary also.)..and work from there..?
what about checking sprite website mabe for clues or answers...??
hope it works for you..
good luck..
unfortunately i went to their website and downloaded the latest and only version they have which is higher than my old one and it could still not read the backup file. It must only work for the version i originally had.
Thank you anyway

[Tutor][HD2][CWR] Backup and Restore for CMR

Easy Guide for Backup and Restore using ClockWorkMod Recovery
Advanced Restore of Data for installing after a Rom upgrade
Very detailed with Pictures You can follow
I love the fact I can reliably and precisely backup and restore a ROM flashed through CWR. It will backup every minute detail and restore it back to the exact condition it was in at backup...not even a single icon missing or different. Even the exact point in a song that was playing when the ROM shut down and I backed it up is restored. And I have been doing these a lot without a hitch.
I like to check out new and other ROMs and I'll backup my current ROM and then do Task 29 and flash the new ROM. I take the backed-up ROM, which is saved on the SD card in one single, specifically named, folder and archive it on my PC. Then I flash the new ROM. If I like that new ROM, I back it up and save the backup on my PC. If I don't like it, I do Task 29, reinstall magldr and the specific recovery file for the backed-up ROM and then copy the archived backup back to the SD card and flash it. Super simple and it puts it back like it never was removed. It's a helluva lot better than Titanium Backup. CWR backup is more akin to a Star Trek transporter where it puts it back exactly like it was before...lol...And it has been so perfectly reliable. Not even a hiccup has been noticed and I've done it a bunch of times.

Hi,
Great idea.
However, people being people, and noobs being noobs, you might want to change picture 11 on MS WORD sheet to "restore"and "restore" rather than "restore"and "backup".

They're stored in a folder on your SD card. If I'm not mistaken it's /clockworkmod/backup
Hello everyone. I have been testin a rom called miui, and now I found it great and I am going to keep it. The problem is that the test I made were with a borrowed 16GB SD card, and now I would like to replace it with my definitive 16 GB class 6 SD card. How can I do this without having to reinstall and configure everything?
This procedure seems to be the right one, but I have a question, does it save everything you have in your SD card?, if this is afirmative, then I have a problem, because I won´t have enough space in the SD to make the backup file.. what can you recomend me to do?.
Best regards and thank you very much for all your support

please help recover from factory reset

Hey guys,
I'm glad to discover you!
I have a friend of mine has a Motorola MB525 and her kid made her a Christmas present early this year: factory reset.
The problem is that she didn't create a google account, so the contacts were not synced with google. And no backup to the external SD was made, unfortunately.
I don't use android devices so this is a bit new for me, and I don't want to make any mistakes.
There must be a way to recover it. I mean, a factory reset deletes the data, as a (quick) format does on a hard disk, but there are applications like get data back for NTFS or FAT to recover it (and R-STUDIO - there are a lot).
Now I have the welcome/first set-up screen. I didn't go with the set-up process, so I won't override any data.
How can I get those contacts back? Should I go woth the set-up process, install a file explorer and search the device for the files? Are they still there? Any ideas? PLEASE there were 900+ contacts and she can't get them back.
Don't get me as a noob, I work in IT, so I can do it with just a hint, but as I told you, android is a foreign OS for me, so I don't want to make any wrong step. Those contacts are crucial!
Thank you so much in advance!
Merry Christmas! Or Happy Holidays!
Best Regards,
Andrei
i don´t know any method that can help you, i really don´t know what is the precess that the phone follow to reset, but if is a format your posibilities to recover your data are so little
possibility?
Maybe if I create an entire image of the system? A .img, .imc or .vim so I can bring it to a data recovery software such as getdataback?
Any idea how to create this image file of the system?
Thanks in advance!

L.E.: Guys!
I found some apps that REALLY get data back if it is recently deleted and not over written. Now I just need to mount the system partition so I can access it from windows or to clone it to PC or SD card and access the Card.
How can I do that please? I need to CLONE it not to copy the files, because the copy and paste will only copy the visible files. The clone or mount will give access to the deleted files also.
L.E.2: Can this help? h ttp:/ / w ww.softpanorama. o rg/Tools/DD/recovery_of_lost_files_using_dd.sh t ml
Thanks!
Andrei
