Success with Korean version in UK - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
My partner is looking to get a G2 as my Xperia Z1 is a bit big for them, has there been much success with people importing the Korean version?
will 3g/4g will work and will software updates come through as normal?
Thanks in advance

I have the Korean 320L and have tried everything to get 4G working but to no avail. Used Vodafone and EE sims with various Roms. Would be grateful if someone could advise.

Did you manage to get it to work yet?
I'm considering the d802 but I don't know if this would work with 4g in the UK either, why are we so behind with 4g

Guys have you tried putting in the test code in and changing the bands to lte that's what I did with my hong kong version and it's all good.
Go to Phone, just enter following command,
*#*#4636#*#* (no need to press Green Dial Button after this).
2) Once you enter last *, Testing menu will appear. From that menu, select "Phone Information"
3) Scoll down little and you will see "Set Preferred network type". There is dropdown at this location which shows all the networks.
Just note,This is testing menu. It will show all the options like CDMA/WCDMA, GSM, LTE etc. It does not mean that all the networks are supported.
Just insert LTE sim and change option of preferred network from above list to LTE only and check if that works.

The Verizon version come SIM unlocked but you can't get LTE with any Non-Verizon SIM card. Could the other versions have something similar that's preventing you from getting LTE with another SIM card?

Go to Phone, just enter following command,
*#*#4636#*#* (no need to press Green Dial Button after this).

[GUIDE][No Root][5.0][4.X] Enabling LTE Without Root

EDIT: Clearly now that there are custom ROMs, this will be less likely an issue. But @icheyne pointed out a good method that will work on most ROMs I believe, since it uses Android's default testing menu.
For those seeking a permanent solution, you WILL need root.
Currently no permanent solution on LG Stock Lollipop.
Here is some information about my situation:
-Currently on Fido Network in Canada (LTE Band 7 [2600 MHz])
-I have achieved LTE speeds of 31mbps (Down) and 25mbps (Up).
-I am rooted, but it should work without root access.
-Firmware is stock V10h-TWN-XX
-Network mode only shows GSM / WCDMA
Before you begin, this is what you need:
-An LTE micro sim.
-Do some research on which LTE bands your network uses and if your variant has the ability to use that band.
-Correct LTE APN settings for your mobile carrier. Make sure it is LTE APN, my carrier has two separate ones (Regular, LTE).
-Mobile Network does NOT have to be turned off (You can keep data on during all of this).
-With Mobile Network on, go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and remember what is written under "Mobile network type".
-Make sure you are in a location that has decent LTE connection.
METHOD FOR LG STOCK LOLLIPOP
1) Open up your Dialer, and type in the following to enter LG's Hidden Menu: "3845*#855#" for D855 (If your model is not listed, please do Google it!)
"3845*#850#" for D850
"3845*#851#" for D851
"3845*#852#" for D852
2) Go down and select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
3) Now select "RAT Selection" and click on "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
4) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
5) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
Currently no permanent solution, each time you reboot, switch to 2G/3G, or go into "Mobile Networks" menu, you will lose LTE
But it's okay, redoing steps 1 to 3 will get LTE back once again. Tedious, but at least it works
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK METHOD (Working for all Jelly Bean ROMs & some Lollipop ROMs) (Thanks to @icheyne)
1) Go into Dialer -> Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information
2) Scroll down to "Set preferred network type:" and click on the pull-down menu
3) Select what type of setting you want, I personally keep it on "LTE/GSM/WCDMA"
4) Select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
5) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
6) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
7) [ROOT][Permanent LTE] For myself, I used a root explorer (ES File Explorer) and go into "/system/app" and delete (or move) LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex. Now you should be able to go into the "Mobile network" menu and it should have the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" setting. Thus making LTE a permanent option.
Those without root access will lose LTE if they restart, switch to 2G/3G, or try to go into the "Mobile network" menu.
If you have any questions, please leave a reply. Hope this helped.
If anyone who cannot get this to work, please post with your details (firmware, carrier, LTE band, etc...).
i have heard some reports that updating some settings in the hidden menu will work, but after restart, it will just go back...hmmm.. this one retains the LTE option?
Yes, after having it on for a few days, restarts, as well as going to an area of weak reception will not affect it. It will sometimes jump back to 3g in weak signal spots (underground), but after I go outside, it will switch to LTE automatically. I should probably update the title since I've learned that this applies to other models as well.
EDIT: @chacho_2me So I found out what breaks the LTE, but it's not major unless you manually switch from LTE to 2g or something like that. Step 11 should say it all, just don't go into the mobile network menu, and you should be fine.
thanks dude..currently im roaming....will try this one when im at home
thank you so much sir.. hope i could help you sometime
I really dont know why LG didnt notice not having the LTE option on othe releases
anyhow...thanks again dude
@chacho_2me Very sorry, I don't know what happened, but unfortunately restarts reverts it back to 2G/3G. But I'll look around to see what I can do to get it to retain, will most likely need root.
If it already states LTE under Settings > About Phone > Network, would you still recommend going ahead with this tweak?
@Curleyyy Are you getting LTE reception though? If you are, then you don't need to do this. This isn't really that much of a tweak, more like just some hidden settings, that's all.
If I'm not mistaken > 2G > 3G >4G > 4G LTE ?? Reception around my place is usually 3G with a bit of 4G occasionally.
@Curleyyy In terms of speed, LTE is currently the fastest. But reception wise, it might not be the best choice. If you are in an area with poor 4G/LTE reception, it is best to go with 3G connection. If you like to find out exactly which regions have 4G/LTE, I'm sure your carrier will have that information on their website.
Thank you so much
It's working fine on Fido. A heartfelt Thank you
Cheers
I found a solution that doesn't require knowledge of the network's LTE bands:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Click Phone Information
Scroll down the page to the GSM/WCDMA dropdown.
Select LTE/GSM/WCDMA - the data icon should switch from H or 3G to 4G.
[ROOT ONLY] Using a root file manager (ES File Explorer) go into "/system/app" and rename LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex to LteConfigs.apk.bak and LteConfigs.odex.bak
Reboot
Go to Settings -> Tethering & networks -> Mobile Networks → Network Mode and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
@icheyne I confirm that works, I will change the post.

Oh dear, that's inconvenient. I don't have lollipop installed yet, since it's been quite busy for me and I need my phone. I will try to update the guide for Lollipop.
When I can test it personally, but for now, if you could try to surf the forums. I am short on time lately, I do apologize.

On mine, only the .apk file was present, not the .odex file. I have flashed a stock-based lollipop rom. I renamed the .apk file and the lte was added to the mobile networks menu, but my phone is still not connecting to lte .
It is correct, the "phone information" menu loads on lollipop, but an error message pops up overtop and you can't get to the settings due to this.
I sure hope I can get this working or I'm going to have to get a different device!
@vinistois Thank you for reminding me about this. I do apologize in advance for not keeping up with this as I am still sticking with JB for the time being. I just flashed L to try to clear things up. Are you currently rooted? And do you have the D855 model?

Does your mobile operator has LTE? Usually you don't see LTE option when your network doesn't support LTE.

Try this way (ROOT is required):
- Install ES File Explorer, open the menu and enable Root Explorer option.
- Locate the file /data/property/persist.radio.lteon
- Open that file, and change its content from false to true
- Reboot the phone.
Hey Jusho,
I'm having the exact same issue with your issue, no LTE option with TELKOMSEL. Have you fixed your issue? If so, how?
Did you purchase 910G in Singapore?
I went to Singapore recently and was able to go to Samsung Service Center... we tried a couple of things :
- Use M1 USIM card in MY Note 4==> LTE option appears
- Put my TELKOMSEL USIM in THEIR Note 4 ==> LTE option disappear from THEIR phone
- Put OPTUS (Australia) USIM in MY NOTE 4 ==> LTE option appears
Today, I went to Grapari and asked them to replace the USIM and tried with the local Samsung Store :
- Put TELKOMSEL USIM in their Samsung EDGE ==> LTE appears
Any idea?
Hey guys, I had that same problem on my galaxy S4 before. I used a Straightalk sim card running on Tmobile. I called straighttalk and they replaced the sim card and everything worked.
Call your providers and ask them to change your sim for LTE compatibility. That is if your providers support it, and your phone supports the LTE bands.
Good luck

Band Setup Problem South America (select band GSM and UMTS menu)

Good day
I am currently in Venezuela and I just received a Moto X pure literally just get it out of the box. When I plug the SIM on the device recognized it I could receive SMS and Calls but no data, no 3G no H+, no 4g. I double checked the APN and nothing. So I look some Info and found this app from the store called "Network" which i think its just a shortcut to the *#*#numbers#*#* anyway below there was an option "lte/gsm/cdma auto (prl)" i change this to other options to try to force LTE but nothing worked. So going desperated press the three dots menu on top and click "select radio band" and by mistake selected USA Band. Inmediatly lost signal and now the decvice doesnt recognize the sim card anymore. I tried to go back to this menu (select radio band) but the only options i see are "USA Band Cellular and PCS" none of this working for me. I ll really appreciate any help you could bring me cause i dont have a phone to replace this one. I also ask the moderator to move this post if this is not the right place for it, I ve been seaching for help but there is just too much information concerning radios, modem, and bands that i can really understand.
My carrier here is Digitel working with this bands
LTE 1800
3G 900
Hopefully you unlocked the bootloader and made a backup before messing with such things. If not, factory reset is probably your best bet.
thanks for the reply
I just did a factory reset and still the same... could flashing a stock rom help with this?
Likely reflashing the firmware will put it back to where you originally had it. If it asks you for a password for anything, it should be all 0's (00000).

Unlocked Sprint G6 on TMUS

Got through the Sprint process and had the G6 unlocked for TMUS. Got the APN set up. Issue is the phone is generally in 3G. I can see under the mobile networks settings, I have the following options:
Automatic (current setting)
CDMA/LTE (LTE yes, calling no)
CDMA
GSM/UMTS
Any idea if there is a way to get a GSM/LTE option. Newbie here, but the phone seems to have the right bands, just the CDMA centric Network settings.
Ideas?

Any ideas. I saw the secret menu on YouTube and it does seem to have the gsm/umts /lte setting I would need.

How to force 'LTE only' on LG V20

This is a guide for those who want to force 'LTE only' on LG V20 Global dual sim version.
As anyone knows, *#*#4636#*#* WILL NOT work with LG V20 and all LG phones starting with Lollipop and later Android versions except for the LG-Nexus releases. LG has locked this menu. Samsung and Huawei are also notorious for locking this menu. These phones will show 'access denied' when you try to force 'LTE only' using the *#*#4636#*#* service menu.
There are however phone manufacturers who do not lock this menu. These include Sony, Asus, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google Pixel, and Nexus phones (various manufacturers). I don't know why manufacturers lock this menu when it is very helpful to users in areas with weak but consistently available LTE signal. By being able to force 'LTE only', you get dramatically better speeds as compared to 3G only.
Anyway, the good news for LG V20 H990 (dual sim version) users is there's a way to force 'LTE only' despite LG locking out the *#*#4636#*#* service menu:
I've outlined here the steps for the workaround:
Note: For LG V20 (H990 dual sim model) only
How to set ‘LTE only’ data mode for SIM1 slot on
LG V20 H990 dual sim version:
Important:
1. When on ‘LTE only’ – you cannot receive calls but you can receive texts. If you go out of an LTE area, your SIM1 (on ‘LTE only’) will be off or will not have any network signal; it will not do automatic switching to 3G or 2G under ‘LTE only’ so you lose the ability to send/receive text messages as there is no LTE signal.
2. This setting only applies to SIM1 slot of the dual SIM model of LG V20 H990. This will not work on SIM2 slot so be sure to place your ‘data-only’ sim to SIM1 tray while placing your ‘call and text’ sim to SIM2 tray (so it won’t be affected by the ‘LTE only’ setting).
Here’s the code to input on your dialer:
*#546368#*990#
Field Test
Modem Settings
RAT Selection
Choose LTE only
If you want to revert back to auto network settings, you can follow the same procedure but choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto' or other settings instead.
It works, but sometimes it makes the signal to no signal.
Great
I trie many things to changing roms...None of them worked. I'm very thankfull to this simple solution. I chose LTE/GSM and now network problems completetely finished.
APK
The app LTESwitch will work. I uncheck all options in the program, and just use the dropdown setting from the status bar to select (L)TE or (A)uto.
A side benefit for me is that if I set it to LTE Only, the phone rejects all incoming calls. That way, if I'm downloading something, a phone call won't interrupt the download.
The unfortunate issue is that it breaks my ability to make/receive calls if I select "(G)SM Only". I'm sure that is because my market is almost exclusively HSPA/HSPA+ for calls.
However, if I need to force LTE, it does it immediately.
I then set to "Auto" for normal operation.
HTH
Looking for a solution for my new used H800K that is now rooted. Sadly *#546368#*990# does work on my old Hong kong model that I am leaving yet *#546368#*800# menu does not show Field Test, although my H990N can do it in the menu so I always had it on 3G only because radiation is very low compared to 4G, and even 2G is higher then 3G as testing. 4G is nearly always in the RED!!! Whereas 3G is in the GREEN nearly always.
Also helps not downloading to fast to burn up the mobile and make it slow.
So... Looking for a way to get only 3G on my H800K... Sad with all the nonsense they do to phones and waste so much time of ours. Tyrants is what they are, coding Tyrants!
