I never remember seeing the transparency options on any of my previous devices, but lately I've been reading there is one for the status bar and nag bar. I have the latest beta and prime and I don't see these options on my G2, are these options device specific? (S4, Nexus..) Am I not looking in the right place? Thanks
I'm thinking they are device specific. I was very excited to see they will have those options and many of the new beta options are on there but not the transparent bars. I can't wait for that!

I think transparency is only available on Nova if you are running KitKat.
According to DL, it looks like it device-specific for the moment.
I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts, but it's one of the newer stories on Droid-Life
As mentioned its device specific..ive run nova on 5 diff devices this year alone and some it works on some it doesnt.
sent from my S4,Note 3,G2 or Nexus 5
I have a transparent nav bar and status bar thanks to Carbon settings. It looks incredible but I'm having issues with the notification bar pulling down now. Setting a gesture in Nova is far from ideal and only works occasionally.

India got a new ota update this morning with a LJ3 build
Here's my change log/what's new in this update from Sammy boys beast galaxy note 2 N7100 build XXALJ3
1.The led on charging has been fixed from low dim red to bright red ( but this issue still exists in leaked jelly rom for s3 glad sammy fixed this on the note 2)
2. The battery life has been increased also noticed that Android or android os test in battery usage is missing. After 2 hours I lost about 2 % on battery with 8 % on screen and device idel.
3. Smart rotation for YouTube has been fixed and smart stay seems to pick my face within a sec without the indication on status bar
4. Opening an app from multi view/multi window animation has been improved.. It doesn't feel a bit laggy like before.
5. Im not sure about this but on camera if your choosing between front and back there's a new animation icon
6. The web browser tab zooms in instead of side cha cha step
7. The keywords on stock keyboard predictions have been improved and accurate.
Things that haven't changed
1. The apex transparency issue in touchwiz hasn't been fixed ( I doubt samsung will provide a fix but hopefully the apex dev comes up with something)
2. The air view doesn't work on Google chrome like on web browser I can scroll down while hovering the screen.
3. Screen recorder hasn't been added yet.
Next wishlist for 4.1.2 ( if a samsung dev happens to see this post *Fingers crossed*)
1 . Please include Google + and Facebook messenger on multi window (if a power hungry apps like chrome or YouTube works I don't see why these apps didn't make the list)
2. Please do fix the transparency issue on apex and nova launcher.
3.please include an option to wake the screen using flip covers.
4. 5x5 icons on the Homescreen
5. Ability to hide the side bar on the picture Gallery.
6. FONT size issue
7. Auto keywords after a space bar press from stock keyboard
8. Status bar fix (we prefer the black status bar from ics(S3) the grey status bar on jelly might be a huge problem in the future and it looks odd on full brightness).

nova fixed the transparency issue 3 betas ago.
Oops my bad I used the older version of nova to see if they fixed the issue but sad the apex hasn't fixed it like when I scroll from page to page using apex the widget transparency still exists.. a huge boner for guys like me who depends on widgets..

If you use the latest stable official version from nova launcher then yes the problem still exists. But the transparency thing is fixed when you upgrade to a beta version (you can do that within the nova launcher settings).
We need also in the next update :-
(1) 5x5 icons on the Homescreen
(2) Ability to hide the side bar on the picture Gallery.

My wishlist....
- They need to fix the font bug -. If you set the font size to Tiny in either the system or the email client it doesnt set to tiny in the list of emails. (before anyone asks this worked on the old note 1)
- It would be great if they set the status bar color to black black and not some greyish black.
- 5x5 on the home screen plus reduce the margins and wasted space on the home screen.
Just got my Note 2, 3 hours ago. I got 3 updates in a row. And you what I love it. My god the screen is absolutely stunning.

Why limits to 5x5 home screen ? Just gives us the choice like on Nova launcher, i'm using 6 rows x 5 colmuns, perfect for using apps and widgets on home screen

Any custom rom that can re-size the navigation buttons, so we can have more screen?
I want to keep them in the same place but make them smaller. They take up to much of the sceen.
search dev forums and if they have it, they'll say it under the list of the many features

I have tweaked the necessary files so you can update the stock ROM with a thinner nav bar, however you need a rooted device and unlocked boot loader, so you might as well go the full custom ROM which will give you more options over the nav bar, such as choosing your own size.

Phil

Hey Phil, how did you go about making your nav bar thinner? I want to stick to stock and am just adding small mods and the thickness of the nav bar really gets to me.
Liquidsmooth has nav bar resizing.
PA has navbar sizing, you can scale it down to zero if you want
tablet UI (statusbar and navbar are one) +phablet +per app dpi and UI control overall
expanded desktop
and expanded desktop on per app basis where is basically shifts into that mode for apps you define that way

It's a custom ROM, and you have to be rooted to install any custom ROM.
I highly recommend PA over other custom ROMs. I just recently decided to see the status of CM10.1 and immediately restored my backup of PA. There are some nice things about other ROMs (AOKP retains the old 2.x behavior of selecting which app to launch such that you don't have to make 2 presses to open with an app only once), but all of them are pretty early in their development. PA can be modified the same way the other ROMs can, but the underlying ability to select both the dpi and layout of an app is invaluable.
I'm stuck with PA, and glad for it!
I'd throw my hat in for AOKP, it's got more customisation than any of the other ROM's and to be fair is now on milestone stable releases.
It depends on what you call customization. Apps are where you hopefully spend 95% of your time using your device, they are what makes your phone worthwhile. Curiously here you have virtually zero customization although the potential is the largest that android has to offer. Buttons and tweaks pale if you could see what's hidden in your everyday apps, if you have a way to tap into it that is.
ps. here's an example
this is how a normal rom uses the screen: http://www.abload.de/img/2013-01-04-15.02g2z5f.jpg
this is how pa can use the screen (and the hidden capabilities in any app): http://www.abload.de/img/n4-product-heroe5z5z.jpg
pa does that optionally. you can switch between UI's app per app. also tab-UI is optional and separate. you could run gtalk like that in any interface UI.
now literally hundreds of apps can do that, pretty much all google apps, tons of apps coming out everyday making good use of the screen now where nexus7 and 10 have established a market for bigger displays.
Hey. I have the latest paranoid android. I have also grown tired of the black bar at the bottom of my screen... I'm using tablet mode and I know you can make the navbar transparent, but I haven't seen it in PA.... I've tried searching quite a bit and really haven't found any solutions... Do you guys know of any? Also, I used to have CM10.1 and I loved the circle percentage for battery... Is there any where I can get that on PA? I already tried the kitchen but I just get errors for it.

The transparency question was recently (within the past 24 hours) addressed in the PA thread, IIRC. Battery percentage is on their to-do list after they hit the stable release milestone, but for now is a low priority. Looking through the new framework-res, battery indication is limited to only a handful of states, so it's not a simple matter of copying and pasting new .png images over. As an alternative though, you can use a theme such as Nexified, which has percent indication.
I'll have to see if I can find an answer about it.. Its supposed to be in hybrid settings but it's not there for me.

Hi all,
Has anyone successfully obtained the tablet UI on 4.3 yet.
I have just updated from PA and gone back to stock but really miss the tablet layout
I am also interested in tablet ui. I know custom Roms will be eventually updated and provide tablet ui but it is nice if we can have a workaround for stock ROM.

With these two apps you do not need any black bars and their wasted space:
Full!screen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tsorn.FullScreen&hl=en
> removes both bars and provides a notification pop-up
LMT (PIE): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
> The PIE feature allows you to customize two semi-circles sets of buttons which usually replaces navigation buttons plus a lot more.
They both work with Android 4.3 but not perfectly. I suspect these minor issues will be fixed soon.
> Both add an unwanted notification that their perspective app is running. Clicking on them leads to the apps settings page.
> Full!screen will not autostart but can be launched manually and works fine from there. Its configuration page app states that it is incompatible with 4.3 but works anyway.
I have been using both apps for several months now and cannot imagine going back to having the wasted screen space.

I just wish Google would put in an option to scoot the buttons over to the left. I'm fine with the top bar, but I don't like the buttons in the middle.
Logically, the tablet UI made so much sense. I do miss being able to see important information like the clock and battery when an app or a game goes to full screen.

Tablet ui code was removed by Google in version 4.2.2 as they wanted a single unified interface, in previous versions some devices on stock could be tricked into one mode or other by tweaking the build.prop values. Since 4.2.2 the code for the (old) tablet mode needs to be put back into the ROM (As in P.A for example) this means it's not a simple quick task, Once the 4.3 code has been merged with the 4.2.2 sources I am sure we will see all the ROM's on xda updated soon.
Hey. I have always wondered, why is it not possible when having transparent navbar in the apps? Just look at LG G2, its transparent in the camera and on the homescreen, so why isnt it possible? Or is it to hard to code?

Ahaa yea i have also seen it in chrome browser with paranoid, but as you say not on purpuse, more a bug.. I had that feature once, don't remember the Rom but when I enabled it, it made it somewhat harder to navigate because very often the background is white or a very light color. Another option is to change the height of your nav bar in settings, other than that try PIE.
Fwiw, I prefer the lack of transparency on the nav bar in apps.

Okey. Yea i guess that feature is not ment to be working.
I have carbon now, but it hasnt the PIE, so i guess i have to go with the regular bar.
The reason is because most apps do not draw behind the status bar. So even if it is transparent. It will still show as black because there is nothing behind it.
That is why for those with the transparent notification it only works on the launcher, lock screen & a few apps.
On previous phones I have had some modifications include stretching apps out so that they are behind the status bar resulting in a transparent bar always working however I'm not sure I've seen any such mod for the nexus 4
