[Q] Notification bar became darker on it's own? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all! New to the LG G2...had it about 20 hours now. I'm 99.9% certain that up until a couple of hours ago, the notification bar at the top used to be almost completely transparent when on the home screen. I haven't changed anything that I know would have affected it, but now it's literally a much darker gray color. I can still see through it, but it has a black tint to it. I've googled pics and seen ones where the bar was as mine used to be when it was mostly transparent. Then I've seen some like mine is now with the darker MORE defined bar. Am I already getting a burn in on the display from Chrome (for example) changing the notification bar color to gray? Took my old G'nex 2 years to get screen burn-in...I would be disappointed if the G2 gets it after a day. I'd rather not have to install a mod to get a transparent bar...I LOVED it the way it was earlier today. I just have no idea what could have happened. Anyone else notice their notification bar become less transparent on it's own?

Probably changed the launcher theme. Different themes have different levels of transparency. Some have them totally see through, while others are mostly dark.
And this is not an Amoled screen like the GNex. You won't get burn ins. It's your eyes playing tricks.
Relax.

Because u changed the default wallpaper. Try choosing a wallpaper from the default ones.
Choosing a picture from your gallery to be ur wallpaper will diaable the transparent notif bar.

For some reason my G2 did this as well but later "fixed" itself. What I mean is I noticed that all of a sudden my own wallpapers did keep the transparent notification bar. But no idea why it suddenly worked. Doesn't work at all though with 3rd party launchers as others have said.

Mine does it occasionally then returns to transperent. I'm guessing some sort of bug

Transparency always worked with different wallpaper sources

Screen changes tint when you swipe

Somewhat hard to describe, but fairly basic.
When I swipe over to another home page, the screen will tint darker for a second, and then tint lighter again immediately.
Has anyone else noticed this?
FWIW I'm rooted and running Eugene's vanilla 2.1 Vibrant9.
Yea I know what you're talking about... never paid too much attention to it though. All of my Android phones have done that (G1, MyTouch, Cliq, and now Vibrant) in wondering if it is an illussion.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Its definitely not an illusion.
I owned a Incredible, EVO and now this and I've never even noticed it until tonight.
I didn't even notice the first few days I had the phone.
So is this a general thing across Android that I never noticed, because its seriously bothering me now.
Using ADW launcher now? Coz I've noticed the widget goes a little blurry for a split second when I swipe the screen. I think it has something to do with the tweaks of the launcher.
It may be the "power save mode" readjusting the brightness levels for the change in screen content.
Sent from Samsung Vibrant
Yeah I turned off the power save feature and it still does it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
When I go to contacts, I noticed if I leave the page idle for just 2 seconds it has a green tine to it but once I swipe down it goes back to normal.
I never noticed it until I started using ADW on my Vibrant.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Are you guys talking about swiping the notification bar? This DOES adjust the brightness so long you have auto brightness turned off!
Nah not the notification bar, simply going either left or right on the home screen to another home screen.

Unless there's an issue with your touchscreen calibration, that shouldn't be happening.
Swiping across the notification bar adjusts the screen's brightness. I think you're accidentally swiping it by mistake and not realizing it.
I noticed this in the web browser when I first purchased the phone. It's very noticeable on a site like XDA with a light background. The screen's tint changes while holding down the screen and dragging it around. No idea why.
It's not a bug. It's built into TouchWIZ. Heres an example. Go into your contacts and just look at the tint. Now scroll down, the tint changes. The tint changes as you scroll because the little letters on the right side are activated.
I never noticed it doing that in the browser but I probably could liken it to the scroll bar on your CPU browser. Perhaps as you scroll, it changes because of that.
Like I said. In contacts, it's a feature. If you have it done in the browser- I don't. Maybe your phone has a bug.
It does it on every screen on the phone, not just contacts, not just browser.
Hopefully my g2 wont be doing this.

No problem here. Running stock from the factory.

What do I do??

Long story short....Im in love with this phone.
But my first one had vertical lines that ran down the screen and I thought it was just the color scheme but I found out that it is Screen Burn in =(
I returened it and my second has screen burn in too!!
What's with Samsung giving this phone recycled or defected amoled screens
Should I return it and rebuy it in a month or send it into Samsung??
If there are alternatives please share .......

Damn it sucks but I don't have a camera buttttt if you pull your notification bar down look at the grey area.....you should see some sort of grid lines that are light
Mine has that but also there are a couple of dark lines that can be seen on everything including pictures.....

screen burn in. 4 months old. should i do something about it ?

i have the nexus S for like 3 or 4 monthjs now. i noticed that if i hide for example the notification bar on top. a slight burn in on the screen appears for like 2 seconds then it dissapears.
i wonder. will it get any worse ? what are my options here ?
if i put a live wallpaper, will it go still effect the screen?
honestly this is the only screen after like 5 nexus that doesnt have grid pattern, doesnt have dead pixels. doesnt have pink or yellow ugly colors.

what else would it be ? if i hide the status bar. i can see marks of the clock and the line " where the statusbar is available " for like 2 seconds before it dissapear.
I think you might be seeing some lag on your screen and just think you see a burn effect. Samoled can not get burned in.
Also, when pulling down the notification over things like android keyboard it shows through a little. It as if it was a screen burn effect.

If its there for 2 seconds and then it disappears then its definitely not a screen burn effect. It would have been permanent.
How are you hiding the status bar?

burn in has to be permanent. if it is just for 2 seconds, it might be the pixels readjusting to return back to normal.... i can't think of anything else.

You know, it is possible that its your own eye getting the burn. I mean if you have the screen brightness all the way up and switch that part of the screen to all black your eyes will get that burn effect and slowly fade out. Get a camera and record it. Watch the video and if its not in video then I'm correct in assuming its your eyes.

I think it is normal. For example I can see the status bar when XDA app is loading, throught the brown/orange full screen splash.
But that is not burn in, or it would always be there, like someone already said.

This is not true. At bestbuy they have a nexus s on display. You can see a slighty faded android with an exclamation symbol burned into the screen. It becomes VERY noticable when youre viewing a webpage since its all white.
My hypothesis is that the samoled pixel colors all age differently. since the status bar pixels are almost never lit up, they would show a slightly different color. But thats just an hypothesis. Its not a fact.

haha!!! at last we find a flaw in your super super nexus s
anyway, on topic, i had it too on the n1 but that was comprehensible as froyo had a whitish statusbar. this one is black ( pixels are not being lit up). i can imagine burn in with the clock or some of the green icons but the statusbar itself ??

Colors changing on s4, not adapt display

So yeah does anyone else have this issue? My s4 colors tend to get warmer and like have a green tint when the keyboard is pulled up any keyboard for that matter in any app with adapt display on or off and auto brightness off or on. Like the status bar turns greenish too. It's so strange.

Nope. It like changes the
Saturation a little when the keyboard tray is displayed.

interesting.
I want to see if someone else can test this. Open up or even reply and look at the status bar and tell me if the black becomes like a greenish tint as well as the whole screen. Then close the keyboard and watch it change back to normal.

I have exactly the same problem on Verizon S4. It really bothers my eyes as it seems to be changing the white balance / tint simply based on what's on the screen all the time. I have of course turned off all options that have anything to do with automatically adjusting the display.
I have the exact same problem with my GS4 international version. The problem gets even worst when playing a youtube video. The colour of the youtube video and the whole screen changes when the status bar is present and when it is not. The whole screen becomes reddish when the status bar is present and greenish when the status bar is not present. Any help on how to disable or fix this?

No but people seem to not realize it's even there. It's built into touchwiz. Only goes away in like cyanogenmod or something. But I'm sure it can be fixed if a dev wants to help so let's all keep this rolling. Anyone else notice it?

I noticed all the Hues are screwed up, even with out a keyboard being displayed. Internet surfing, playing games, Navigation.
I miss my Galaxy S2 because it didnt have this issue.
Edit:

I don't see a change. ..

I have the same issue but mine happens very rarely. It's super annoying. Has anyone tried deleting colorblind.apk?

After I noticed it a few days ago, I think it is ok now, at least not as bad as the first time i saw it. Youtube video seems to be ok now with very very tiny bit of change in colours and contrast compared to yesterday with the same video. I think it might just be some bugs in the software. I did try restarting it many times yesterday and also disabling auto brightness, auto adjust screen tone and adapt display and that didn't help at all but now it's just kind of fixed itself
I just realised that this only happen when the brightness is set at a very low level. The effect is less noticeable when the brightness is high.
Yes so it's throttling the display to save battery and such
Does flashing cm10.1 fix the issue?

(Q) Dark UI option?

So most ROMS now have an option to enable a Dark UI. On Xylon it's Dark Xylon, Pac is Pac is black, etc.
I'm just curious, does it only change menus to black? And is that it? It just seems a bit pointless having a whole option, just to change the menu background.
Sorry but that's just my opinion. Or is there more to this toggle that I'm missing? Thank you vet much!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Looking forward to someone answering this..
Well the name of the toggle is quite self explanatory...it makes the ui dark. This includes most menus, as well as other general parts of the interface (quicksettings, notification drawer, etc). I really dont see how its pointless...what more are you expecting it to do. If you dont like it, ignore it and continue on with your life.
It saves battery on devices with AMOLED screens
No it is not just the menus and backgrounds. It is also text colors and images.

Its a little more than just backgrounds. For example their is a reason slim ROMs tells you to download their gapps over say the official gapps. It colors anything that is coded to react to the dark ui or inverted mode. In my case the play store and the gmail widgets/app

Black offers battery improvements for oled only...This is IPS+ so you're doing yourself a disfavor by using inverted gapps and those real black black themes some ROMs offer. You can Google lg IPS+ tech docs and white is the only color that uses less pwr on IPS than oled.

I see better with black text on a white bg, so I can also have a lower brightness. When using black bg on n4 I can't see as well so I raise brightness to like half outdoors.

I know mostly others are like that, seeing better black on white. Bright white is displeasing to my eyes, like bright lights. I actually suffer from a bit of night blindness. A lot of bright white makes it hard for me to read tiny black letters. Turning the brightness down only seems to blur the black letters for me. Plus, when my eyes tire, it only gets worse. I actually prefer white letters on dark gray vs black.
