So most ROMS now have an option to enable a Dark UI. On Xylon it's Dark Xylon, Pac is Pac is black, etc.
I'm just curious, does it only change menus to black? And is that it? It just seems a bit pointless having a whole option, just to change the menu background.
Sorry but that's just my opinion. Or is there more to this toggle that I'm missing? Thank you vet much!

Looking forward to someone answering this..
Well the name of the toggle is quite self explanatory...it makes the ui dark. This includes most menus, as well as other general parts of the interface (quicksettings, notification drawer, etc). I really dont see how its pointless...what more are you expecting it to do. If you dont like it, ignore it and continue on with your life.
It saves battery on devices with AMOLED screens
No it is not just the menus and backgrounds. It is also text colors and images.

Its a little more than just backgrounds. For example their is a reason slim ROMs tells you to download their gapps over say the official gapps. It colors anything that is coded to react to the dark ui or inverted mode. In my case the play store and the gmail widgets/app

So it does not offer any other benifits other than a dark look for non AMOLED devices? More or less like a dark theme.. ?

Black offers battery improvements for oled only...This is IPS+ so you're doing yourself a disfavor by using inverted gapps and those real black black themes some ROMs offer. You can Google lg IPS+ tech docs and white is the only color that uses less pwr on IPS than oled.

I find having white letters on a dark background shows better, allowing me to turn the backlight lower, so there is some benefit.

I see better with black text on a white bg, so I can also have a lower brightness. When using black bg on n4 I can't see as well so I raise brightness to like half outdoors.

I know mostly others are like that, seeing better black on white. Bright white is displeasing to my eyes, like bright lights. I actually suffer from a bit of night blindness. A lot of bright white makes it hard for me to read tiny black letters. Turning the brightness down only seems to blur the black letters for me. Plus, when my eyes tire, it only gets worse. I actually prefer white letters on dark gray vs black.

Mother of GOD ! there are other icon imprints as well if I look closely !!
Hope it doesn't get darker than this ...
You won't find away around it unfortunately.
These screens are both fantastic and both sh*t at the same time. It's good technology but it isn't perfected. My original SGS went terrible. After nearly 2 years on it I could see perfectly the alarm icon and almost every icon I had on my home screen on light and dark backgrounds - It's a nice screen but it will only get worse within time.
As others have said only real solution is to keep altering your backgrounds and home screens but tbh I wouldn't bother, you'll still get burn from the time and other icons in the status bar.
Until Samsung sort them out and improve how they work it's just the way it's going to be
Whoa!! That is scary!
I have heard that there is no solution for a burn-in..? Thanks for the advice though. I'll keep changing the layout constantly.
Sorry, on a black background you can see the glow of the light bulb as to form a stain?
I would not be just my problemi

It looks the same as every IPS monitor ever.
Great color, great brightness, but mediocre blacks when viewed from the side
If you mean light bleeding or bad panel uniformity, yes most (if not all) have that.
R: Question on display, please
And so the infiltration of light from the top of display is normal?

Yes it's normal on IPS screens. The degree that it "infiltrates" varies between devices. my First Nexus 4 had backlight bleeding that was more obvious then the replacement device I have now. The replacement's back light bleeding is barely noticeable.
I've owned various devices with IPS screens
Asus Transformer TF101 (I've handled about 5 different devices)
Asus Transformer Prime (handled about 3 devices)
Asus Transformer Infinity(handled just the one I owned)
LG G2X (Had multiple replacments)
Nexus 4
Nexus 7(handled 3: 2 32gb HSPA+ and 1 16gb Wifi)
All had some light bleeding to a certain extent or another. Some being much worse than others.
I have a RMA for a 3rd Nexus 4 (The one I have now I love, hardly any backlight bleeding and everything is great except there is this one dark vertical line from top to bottom of the screen that you can see on white/gray backgrounds. My original Nexus 4 didn't have any of that)
If my 3rd has worse backlight bleeding than the one I currently have I might just deal with the dark line on the screen on white/gray backgrounds on my current device as that's the ONLY thing that bugs me about it.

It does, but not that much. Watch the video in this post. Towards the end, the reviewer does a crush comparison with the s3
I tested my own display with the same gradient chart shes using and it looks the same I can see to 3 on that chart. Ive also ome across some netflix movies where the shadows clip on the S4, but not on my LCD. Again, nothing major, but its still there.....atleast on my device.
A little here, has been a thing on every OLED/AMOLED device I've ever owned.
No biggie.

There are some of us, me included, who see a red tint to blacks in a dark room. The red subpixels seem to stay on. Some folks say they have pure blacks even in the dark.
Now I dont see pink text when scrolling, but maybe your eyes are sensitive enough to see the red from blacks bleed into the text.
Do you see a red tint in blacks in low light? If so, that might explain the pink text
Sad to say, the S4 actually clips more than my galaxy nexus. A clear indication of this is in Phase Beam live wallpaper. The S4 has a trouble doing a smooth gradient on the purple shadow on the lower right hand of the wallpaper. It just shows a blocky purple shape in this area. The Gnex shows a nice gradient. Bit of a disappointment
Made a video of it. Went into AT&T today and checked the display models and both did the same thing. Might be s big problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL5TV8kuxac&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I'm currently on my second N3 (the first one had vertical lines in photos) and looks like this one has a bad display. When using Tapatalk with the dark theme, the bottom left corner/edge of the display is brighter than the rest. When testing with Screen Adjuster, the difference is very noticeable. The issue can be seen even with just Thumb Keyboard with WP7 theme.
Has anyone else noticed this kind of problem?

Check it with the stock messaging app, it should have a uniform brightness. Mine is glowing on the left edge and especially on the bottom left corner.

You may notice that the black screen when you open the settings. Not symmetric Colors.
There is a difference in the backlight. Increase in the left of the screen.
AMOLED has no backlight! the issue is due to the production process (basically: the more of the center of the wafer your particular screen has been cut out, the more uniform it will be)!

If you want to get rid of display brightness issues, just switch to Dynamic, as the 'blacks' in Settings would be even blacker, to the point where it doesn't really light up as it uses the OLED technique of showing true black.
I'm rooted on the i9505g and I'm having no luck finding a way to adjust the rgb color calibration of the display. The display appears too warm to my eyes and I would like to match the cooler display of my nexus 4. It's especially noticeable when I have a white background like in Google plus. Whites appear more yellow than pure white and it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance for any help
