I just rooted my Note 3, first time ever doing that. I've seen lots of screen shots of people using 4 windows in multi window mode. How do they do it? I'm most interested in being able to use the apps I want in multi window and not just the apps Touchwiz wants me to
Now that you are rooted, download the "Pen Window Manager" app from the play store. It is easy to understand and use how to add apps to the pen window. Then you can use programs that matter all on one screen.

I really like the look and feel of Ubuntu tablet. Specifically the large desktop. I hate the limited space on my nexus 10. It makes sense on a phone but I wish I could scroll like on a PC or Ubuntu when using a larger screen.
Anyone know if there's anything out there that resembles the Ubuntu desktop. I like stock jelly bean. This is just one of a couple of things that bugs me.

I haven't heard of any projects like this, which is I think why Ubuntu started developing Ubuntu Mobile.

I also like a full desktop and use the following products to acheive that and also keep quick access to notifications and menu bar functionality.
full!screen - Hides both the notification and menu bars. You set a button (can be invisible), in one of the four screen corners, which has the ability to pop-up the notifications and other functions with a long press such as a last apps list. I liked this app so much that purchased fullscreen+ eventhough I do not use any of the enhanced features.
LMT - The PIE feature adds an autohide user definable menu where I have the menu bar navigation actions and a number of quick launch apps plus other functionality. This is a free app on XDA. Make sure to read the post's "Commands" documentation as it will help you understand how to get the most out of PIE . You access PIE on one side pf the screen or the other.
You need to be rooted but those apps work very well on Stock 4.2.2.

Sidebar pro, lmt launcher, and a ROM that can hide the status bar or an app like the one the user above told you. You can find all those apks on the googleplay or on the forum of xda.
Greetings.
Glovebox is an app that adds a shortcut bar that pops out from the side of your screen like Ubuntu Touch has.
If you have rooted device you can now hide soft keys (and keep notification bar) without modifications and reboots. Just try my new app:
GMD Hide Soft Keys
It also adds Quick NavBar - soft keys that can be opened with simple swipe from bottom and then autohide when not needed.
Every time I swipe up from home it would launch the My magazine app. This totally freak me out.
I really want to stay in TW launcher but this swipe up just really pissed me off.
Disable the magazine app or delete it or freeze it would still bring your to play store and told you " item not found"
I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510102
I am wondering since one could use tasker to change the swipe up function, could we just modified some where of the system to disable this annoying function?
Or could we just use something like Pullup but just Pull up none thing?
Thank you.
( I know I could install third party launcher but Personally I like note 3 launcher a lot except the stupid My magazine )
Hi,
Is it possible to add applications on the side bar as per your choices in note 3?
Thanks.
I don't think its possible.. Only compatible apps would be listed and could be added..

Actually you can, there's an app MW Enabler that can modify the app so it supports multiwindow and then it shows up in the "Sidebar".
The app works like this :
1 - start the app
2 - select the application you want to modify to support MultiWindow or SPen Window
3 - select what you want to enable (the checkboxes)
4 - press the "Process button"
5 - press the "Uninstall" to remove the original app and "Install" to install the modified version
6 - test your app to see if it works correctly
Note : you might need to restart the phone before the app actually shows up in the MultiWindow/SPen Window list
Note : that not all apps like running in multiwindow mode, some display in weird way, others simply crash. For those just uninstall them and reinstall from the Play Store.
Some custom ROMs also have support to add any app to the multiwindow sidebar (or add all the apps to that list).
P.S. i'm not the developer of the app, i'm only trying to help fellow Note users.

Is their anyway to change from having apps on main screen and having to slid across to browse apps installed. Is their a way to make a apps button and then go into this and browse though apps and have shortcuts to them on home screen instead of just having to slid and swipe though screens?

Install other launchers that support app drawer. To name few Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher, etc..
Sent from my ALE-L21 using XDA-Developers mobile app
As amageek pointed out, you have to install a 3rd party launcher software to get the desired layout, you mentioned.
By personal experience, I recommend Nova. I bought the Prime version(there is a free version as well), wich removes all sorts of ADs, give some extra functionality, and makes the phone a bit more like an AOSP ROM, at least launcher-wise.
An other solution is to make folders in the Huawei Launcher, which almost works as the app drawer in any launcher. The back-side of this is, that you have to make it manually to fit your needs.
Hi - I've been looking to replace my launcher from touchwiz as I need landscape orientation for the home page.
Do any of the alternative launchers support split screen? Doesn't look like Nova, Action Launcher or Google Launcher do, and I cant find Samsung's Good Lock for some reason as I thought that might.
Any ideas? Thanks
Samsung doesn't want launchers to work in split screen. That is a design decision which makes sense when you think about it. The same reason that the launcher does not show in "Recent apps".
Fear not, there might be a solution.
A simple trick would be to get the apk that you want to try in split screen and then edit its AndroidManifest.xml file so that the app doesn't know that it's a launcher. (Not sure if you can do that directly but most probably you'll have to Decompile the app -> edit manifest -> Recompile the app.
If you have spare free time you can google how to do all this. And see if its possible. (Most probably it is.)
I found a great solution! I force landscape mode using an app and Nova in split screen - ie I have music on touchwiz one side, and nova on the other. That way I can run any apps split screen. Inside nova I can run maps which wont run on it's own in split screen.
Touchwiz allows this with launcher apps which are not set as the default home.
In fact it works fantastic. I use it along with a floating app launcher so I can press home and it wont take the whole homescreen home, just the nova launcher.

I recently downloaded the GalaxyS8_Dark_clock_noframe.apk and it is WOW! Although I only got to try out the trial version on a Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 with android v6.0 (marshmellow) I noticed that in the gallery app the title for each album is white against a background of white and not black against a background of white or white text against a black background? See attached image.
Is there a freeware theme that is similar with the dark menus, notification window, etc as I don't have that much data so I can't google that much....
Thanks
