Okay, I rooted my N1 with Universal Androot and removed the stock Froyo Twitter app without backing it up. (Shame on me.) Now, I can't update to 2.2.1 because of it (a status 7 error complaining about not finding /system/app/Twitter.apk)
I have, at the advice of some other forum posts I've read, installed Twitter from Android Market and backed it up to the sd. Renamed it Twitter.apk and used the Terminal Emulator to copy it to /system/app. That worked and the file is there, but the update still will not apply. Do I also need a .odex file? Is there any way to update at this point?
Any help would be super appreciated. THANKS!
if this is the new twitter app would you be kindly enough to share it..lol
Sent from my Nexus One
grab it from an older update like from frf91 update.. then do adb push /system/app
if you cant do that...
put the twitter app in sdcard then go to terminal and do
cp /sdcard/twitter /system/app
reboot then apply it.. i had trouble with amazon and i did it that way and it worked well

That's exactly what I did. It didn't work.
I'd love to pull the app from a FRF91 build but I have no idea how that's done.

It looks as though I can't flash the GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader and installing a new recovery, correct? I'm really not that motivated if that's the case. I appreciate the information.
OK, just download the GAPPS, then use something like estrongs file manager to unzip to a folder of choice (with estrongs, longpress and select extract).
The Twitter apk will be in the extract folder/system/app. Just click the apk to install...

BTW, if you have root, you may as well install a custom recovery (without touching the bootloader).
Easy way with ROM Manager (has Clockworkmod and Amon-Ra), or use adb if you wanna learn something...

Thanks for the tips. I'll check it out tomorrow when I can make a data transfer. I am doubtful that installing from the zip will solve much since I already loaded the app and its already in the system folder.
could someone verify whether or not the Twitter app has a corresponding odex file that I might need?
I ran into the same problem when I removed Amazon Mp3, but I was impatient so I ended up reflashing the stock rom and then updating.
There is a thread that has all n1 updates look for it and download froyo fr91 update then unzip it go to system app and look for twitter apk then put in sdcard and do commands again .. I tried to do with market twitter and it failed so I did it the way I'm explained andnworkd

You sir, have saved my life. I swear I used that same exact Twitter.apk but I must not have. I used 3 different apks all with the same result but the one in the zip I found somewhere in this forum worked perfectly. I appreciate all the help and feel like such a 'tard for not trying something so seemingly simple earlier.

Followed the instructions and seems to be activated properly on my N7100 with credit card linked. I left the build.prop as Galaxy Nexus for now.
I'll try it out later at a 7-11 to see if works or not and report back
It works! Went to 7-11 and bought my first purchase using Google Wallet. Everyone in line was surprised and shocked that it was possible to just tap the phone on the credit pad. Amazing!
Not working for me. It killed my nfc. Will play with it more later. Running pa

I got wallet installed in my international note 2 using the following simple procedure. all seems to be fine. But it is late, have not had chance to actually use it make payment yet.
1. change build.prop to Galaxy Nexus (remember to make a copy to backup)
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
2. reboot
3. install official google wallet app from play store
4. run it and set it up. It allowed me to add credit card and etc. but since my device is rooted, it says unsupported
5. make sure all runs well, then delete the wallet apk from /data/app
6. download the zip file from the link above, and get the wallet apk out of it -- DO NOT flash it in recovery
7. copy the extracted wallet.apk file from to /system/app and set the permission
8. reboot and run wallet to make sure it runs fine
9. change build.prop back to original one
10. reboot

Yea no problem. But I'm a flash freak and this take to much time to reset up each day with a new nightly 10.1,or a new PA. Would be great if this could be made in a flash zip.

is it okay to leave the prop value as nexus? what will happen if i leave it at that? i could not open wallet when i change the prop value back to what it was.
You will lose some spen and touchwiz features and nexus apps will show up in the market.

Yes you can do that, all you need is a "terminal emulator" app, there are plenty available just search for them. Depending on the custom ROM some already provide updated gapps so be sure to use the right one and not just the one given in tools like goomanager.
I would recommend the following.
1. Backup your apps + data using Titanium Backup
2. Boot into recovery and create a backup of your system
3. Wipe cache/davlik/data + system
4. be aware of the right "flashing order" FIRST the ROM file, then add more zips and choose gapps
5. enjoy your custom ROM

Something tells me he hasnt rooted yet. If im not mistaken, he can't use a terminal app with the dd command if he isnt rooted. I know you can root using adb though with debugging enabled but im not sure he can root without a pc.

Just so you know if you remove Google Play services from your computer, the PlayStore will auto install it, which is a newer version than the PrebuiltGsmCore in the recent gapps package.
I also find that its actually not required to run Google's launcher.
Hey everyone! I seem to have found put together 3 methods of installing/bypassing the V4A App on android. These methods include:
Regular Installation, and 2 Error bypasses/fixes.
If you get the error "superuser manager doesn't allow app to access su or you don't have root at all. fix this to use this selinuxmodechanger!", then you've come to the right place.
Requirements: ROOT, (maybe) TWRP (or anything you can flash the zip onto your phone with. With this tutorial I'll be using TWRP.)
If you don't have TWRP, here's the link to that \\ https://twrp.me/Devices/
Type in/select your device, click download, and flash it to your phone.
====================================================================================
Regular installation:
1.) Download V4A from Google Play Store \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
2.) Open, and grant root permission.
3.) Install drivers, and reboot phone. DONE!
==================================================================================================
V4A SuperSU Manager Error:
1.) Download V4A from Google Play Store (the newest one) \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
Open it, grant permissions, click "install drivers" <- just get through the driver menu. This is a troubleshoot test. If it fails, keep going on with the tutorial. If not, You're A-Okay.
2.) Download V4A Flashable ZIP from here \\ https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By-5wpCgi7OHMjFZRU1PYXljbDQ/view
Drag and drop from your computer onto your phone in your "Downloads" folder.
3.) Open TWRP and click "Install" and navigate to your "Downloads" folder where you Installed the V4A Flashable ZIP (Viper4AndroidMM_v2.4.0.1.zip)
Install the ZIP in TWRP, and reboot.
4.) Open your apps/app menu, navigate to the new (it's an older version, but it's newly installed) V4A. It should be a purple logo instead of a blue logo. At this point in the tutorial, you should have both the Google Play Store APK, and the TWRP Flashed APK. Open the PURPLE V4A, and Install drivers now.
5.) Reboot phone, go to the NEW (blue logo) V4A, and install drivers on that one too.
The rest is clean-up. You may now delete the older version of V4A (purple logo).
========================================================
Bypass/fix #2, The SELinuxModeChanger issue:
1.) Download V4A (newest version) from \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
2.) (Grant root access) Attempt to install drivers. If this succeeds, then Idk why you're still here.
3.) Download SELinuxModeChanger APK from \\ http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=12506
4.) Open it, grant root access, and click "Permissive".
5.) Re-boot phone, and open V4A when done.
6.) Install drivers!

my head unit doesn't have vendor/etc or the audio effects configuration file....
Thanks
I had the Viper.apk from their website and the Google play version loaded also and I was getting the I/O error when trying to load the driver and the Google Play version didn't work at all. I did try to load SuperSU and busybox before attempting to load the driver again and it still didn't work. I don't know about permissive kernel, I'm running Resurrection ROM on a Rooted Note 3. The way I got this to work was to uninstalled the V4A Viper APK version that I had retrieved and loaded from their website. Next I booted into TWRP recovery and installed the V4A Flashable ZIP from the link that I found here. Next I ran the flashed version and granted SU permissions when asked during the install driver process. The driver finally loaded and bingo it works now.
