[Q] TWRP = only flash roms that are based on the Asus OTA?

I've had my TF300 for a few weeks now and am disappointed with the sluggishness of the offical JB ROM when compared to my GS2 on AOKP or even my wife's Tablet S with stock ICS. I'd like to try some of the modified official ROMs or CM10.
After searching these forums for a while and reading the various guides, it seems like the easiest way to unlock and root the tablet is to use the Asus unlocker apk then use fastboot to install TWRP. When I downloaded TWRP I noticed it said:
"If you have taken the official Asus Jellybean OTA then be sure to install the '-JB' version of the recovery for your device - and only flash roms that are based on the Asus OTA."
Does this really mean I'm restricted to ROMs based on the official JB? If I go with CWM will I be able to install any ROM? Am I stuck no matter what because I already have the OTA JB? Thanks for the help if anyone can answer, I just couldn't cobble together a clear answer from the threads I read.
You can flash any Rom you like with Twrp. You just have to dl the right version for the bootloader.
I am using Twrp from the beginning and never had any problems with it.

Thanks for the reply. So is the caution on the TWRP site just superfluous? I have to admit that it makes me nervous going forward.
It means you need to flash roms that support the JB bootloader. So no ICS roms.
there are a few CM roms that are based on JB that will flash fine. Just today I tried 2 CM roms and one hybrid CM+AOKP port on my TF300t that was running the OTA JB update (unlocked and TWRP'd).
Just be for sure anything you flash says for JB bootloader. There are a few 4.1 cm based roms for the old ics bootloader. The warning you saw on the website is just trying to warn because so many people just flash **** without reading.

Got it. Thanks guys.
I'll be unlocking and putting TWRP on tonight to see what kind of ROM I like. Appreciate the clarification.

Care to make a how-to video? Joking of course... Just bemoaning my incompetence... I get the Asus bootloader apk, and I know how to flash roms using twrp (I have used it for about a year on my S2 and S3) but from what I read, installing twrp on the tf300 looks more challenging than on my phone. I will keep searching, but I may be forced to throw on my flame suit and start a thread if I cant get this resolved soon!
go the the video thread and look for the video titled
"How to Flash ClockWorksMod Recovery + ROOT ( Works on ALL Fimrware )"
just use the twrp.blob instead of the CM one and you're good to go.

[Q] Factory Google Image?

Hey guys n gals,
I should receive my Nexus 4 today and first thing Im going to do is flash the stock Google Android 4.2.1 ROM.
I am just wondering if the ROM (occam 4.2.1 JOP40D) on this website is the latest official Google 4.2.1 ROM that will receive future OTA's?
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware
Thanks in advance!
Your phone will come with the latest Google software, or it might prompt you to do the so called "December bug" update. No need to flash a stock image. If you want to stay stock then just leave it at that.
Or I'm totally misunderstanding your question..
Yes that is the latest.

Yes to both questions
Thanks for the reply everyone I appreciate it. Just wanted to know if it was the stock ROM incase the phone came with a carrier specific firmware like the Galaxy Nexus did.
i guess it's time for you to change your avatar to the colorful nexus's X

[Q] how long will it take for custom roms to update to 4.3 when it drops?

DISCLAIMER: this is not another generic speculation thread just to throw around guesses about dates for the 4.3 release. yes, i am asking you to speculate, but i have a legitimate reason for posing this question, so please, do not troll and/or flame. thank you.
so my nexus 4 arrived today. i'm eagerly awaiting getting out of work so i can get home and get to playing with it. i absolutely intend to unlock, root and flash a custom recovery/rom/kernel. however, word is that 4.3 is set to release on june 10th (or thereabouts) which is this monday. i'd hate to take the time to do all of the aforementioned things, only to have to reflash stock shortly thereafter in order to grab the OTA.
do you think 4.3 will actually drop this week, and as such, i should wait before going flash crazy?
or i guess an even better question is the one posed in the thread title. if i flash a custom rom now, how long before the rom will update to 4.3? i'm going with PA and probably the latest franco. can't wait to play around with halo!
as soon as the source is out.... they'll be out with custom roms with the very basic stuff like deodexed, superuser and such
no go flash crazy, enjoy it while you can. even when 4.3 is out, it'll take time to backport all the existing customization and features to 4.3
Do this unlock the bootloader flash custom recovery flash SU zip then make a nandroid backup then flash any ROM kernel or mod you want. If the ota comes out then you can just flash your backup and install ota with no problems.
Roms will be updated usually with in a few days after the source is released just because the ota is released doesn't mean the source is out
Sent from my Nexus 4
I would'nt bother waiting.. since google editions of other phones have been launched it means the wait will be longer, since they will have to all get the update together so as not to advantage one phone over the other... now i hear sony is have a google editon too, the wait will be even longer still.

[Q] Cyanogenmod11...

Forgive me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that Cyanogenmod 11 could only be flashed on the Developers Edition because of the Kitkat Kernal and me the unfortunate that was chomping at the bit to get the Note 3 completely forgot about The DE...sigh...bought the retail version instead !!! Curse double curse! But now that I'm on Kitkat (THANKS BEANS!!) is it safe to flash CM11 in Safestrap? (THANKS HASHCODE!!)

No. You can only flash ROMs based on Touchwiz kernel. Sorry about that. You could return your retail device and purchase a second hand DE.

Thanks for the fast response. I bought it outright which would probably help me in the long run...but I'm going to wait a bit and see if we get a bootloader unlock! Hopefully our brilliant Dev's will hit the Jackpot soon! Thanks.
I read on the kit kat rom thread that getting aosp is possible now but with a lot of work, a lot.

[SAFETY INFO]Things not to do with your newly unlocked RAZR HD/M/atrix HD on KITKAT

1. DO NOT Flash CM11 or any ROM without the 3.4 kernel, official cm11 is now based on the 3.4 kernel , @epinter 's are not.
2. DO NOT flash an old recovery not for the kit kat boot loader.
3. DON'T NOT make a backup before flashing roms so you can easily go back.
everyone please add your suggestions i will update the op with them.

dhacker29 has some cm11 builds with a 3.4 as well as a working recovery for our updated phones. I just flashed his latest cm11 build with 3.4 kernel and so far so good. Only been running a couple hours while at work so it hasn't been put through the paces yet either. If you go to the Android Dev section and go to the CM11 Official thread you can a link to the 3.4 builds at the bottom of the 1st post. Good luck

That link in his post is a direct link to the correct cm11 if you are updated and unlocked on stock 4.4.2. It's dhacker29's test builds with a 3.4 kernel.

I can confirm Apollo doesn't work. Play music works with bugs however. When I choose a song it says can't stream but when I choose the same song again it plays.
So I can play

Ok so Im going on a road trip in a few days. Pandora doesnt even work with CM11. I guess my only option is to RSD back to VZW_XT926_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10_1FF.xml. The stock kit kat bootloader ONLY works with these 2 ROMs and only 1 is stable enough to not be near a PC for a week. If I'm missing any other options feel free to chime in...
Thanks!!

New to installing mods
I'm pretty new to modding, so I was just wondering how beneficial it is to install for example cyanogen mod vs the latest kit kat on the razr hd. I hear people praising how good mods are, but then I constantly read about the bugs and glitches to the most common things people use such as music or camera. Is there a mod out there that is 100% better than the current kitkat build no matter how you slice it, or are there always going to be trade offs?

If you are on the KK bootloader i would use the stock KK ROM for now just because all the devs are going to have to port there ROMs to work on the new bootloader. The only one you can use right now other then stock is CM11 only by Dhacker29. The Epinter CM11 build is still only for use on JB bootloader. So RIGHT NOW the ONLY stable ROM in STOCK KK. You can not downgrade the KK bootloader to JB no matter if you are unlocked or not.
In a week or 2 i am very sure we will have more options, but remember this phone is almost 2 years old. None of us thought in a million years MOTO would release an update with an open exploit that was closed last year on the 9.16 build.

Ok pretty much what I expected. Just testing the waters. I'm updated to kitkat, rooted, bootloader unlocked, and replaced stock BL with CWM 6.0.4.4. Ive already made a backup of my stock rom, so I'm pretty much ready to go. Just need to wait for something that will surely benefit me

I would have my phone on CWM 6.0.4.9 recovery. That one is specific for the KK bootloader. The version you have is pretty much useless for flash KK roms.

After unlocking I downgraded to jb and am running the 3.0 builds lots of options for unlocked bootloaders ?
