[Q] Flashify without custom recovery? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is flashify or other 3rd party apps dependent on custom roms like CWM or TWRP? Or will work (flashing zips like rom, xposed etc.) even without custom recoveries?

anyone?

not sure i understand what youre asking. are you asking if you can flash ROMs via flashify?

Yes i was asking if flashify will work even you dont have TWRP or CWM?

Flashify is an app that flashes TWRP or CWM whichever image you point it at. You download flashify from the market, the TWRP and CWM images are downloaded from XDA.

How about other 3rd party apps? Like goo manager, rom manager these apps flashes zips right? Will it work even i dont have cwm/twrp? For example, i want to flash some xposed module, i will use goo manager even i dont have twrp. Will it work?

Do anyone know the answers to @marshygeek questions?
Do Flashify or other tools let flash mods without installing a custom recovery on the phone?
Thanks!

I do not know for sure but 99.9% it won't work that way.

I don't think so. Flashify only pushes files to a specific partition. You need a custom recovery in order to flash mods.

[Q] help installing CWM on GRAND PRIME

so I have ROOTED my Grand Prime already. I want to flash mods into my phone. eg, im planning to install audio mods that are flashed from the recovery. So I think I need a custom Recovery like CWM or TWRP.
then I found a video to install CWM on youtube
they use the odin software to install this recovery.
so my question is..
Will anything Happen to the root if I install CWM using this method?
or will any other problem wil happen?

You will not gonna lose the root, but you surely will trip knox counter by flashing custom recovery.
I have disabled knox after I root the phone. When opening SuperSu they asked to disable the knox. So i clicked yes.
Model of Your prime?
I was read about CWM on GP and some of people have a problem like bootloop or it shows that CWM is installed but after reboot all disappear and back to stock recovery
I'm still wating for any info about root my GP and for now....nothing useful yet keep wating

New to posting on xda, so I don't know if this where I should ask this, but need help

Ok, so I got an AT&T Galaxy S4 running OC3, and I want to put a custom ROM on. I've been reading so many threads over the past few days, and want to make sure that I have everything ready to go before I brick my phone (the volume up button is stuck so I can't get into download mode if I brick it, will that be a problem?)
1. I have rooted using Kingroot. Root check app says I have root
2. I installed busybox
3. I installed safestrap 3.72 (I tried uninstalling 3.72, and installing 3.75, but it says old version installed. Will this be a problem?)
4. Downloaded and installed the NC1 flasher spk, but have not flashed yet because I want to make sure I'm doing everything ok
5. This is where I really want to make sure I have everything in order... I'm going to list the zip I have that I think I need to flash, in the order that I think I need to flash them:
a. Goldeneye ROM v.53 (unless someone has a better ROM they think I should use)
b. 5.0 nano Gapps
c. SuperSU (unless I don't need to)
d. OC3 Stock Kernel
e. OC3 modules
f. 0C3 Modem
g. xposed
6. Reboot (then install xposed installer apk, reinstall busybox/safestrap apk/nc1 flasher apk, other apps, etc)
Please let me know if this is the right path. And is not being able to get into download mode going to be a problem?
I don't know where you got the 5.0 nano Gapps step from, but you shouldn't need those. SuperSU never hurts to flash so that's fine. Just make sure you have the recovery flashable zip for the OC3 kernel since you can't get into download, but you should be able to reboot to download from Safestrap anyway if necessary. You may also want to boot into the ROM once before flashing xposed.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'm just used to flashing gapps from every other device I have flashed haha. So you don't need to in this method?
And does it matter that I can't update to safestrap 3.75? Will 3.72 work?
And thanks for the heads up on flashing xposed. When I boot the ROM, do I need to reinstall safestrap/NC1 flasher to get back so I can flash xposed?
One more question (sorry for all the questions ), do you have any opinion on the Goldeneye ROM vs any other compatible lollipop ROMs? And are there any Marshmallow ROMs that would be compatible?

Apologies for being away from XDA for a bit. You don't need Gapps since it's not an AOSP ROM. Either Safestrap should work once you flash the NC1 kernel I believe. You will need NC1 Flasher, Safestrap should still be installed though (the recovery, not the app though) or you should also be able to use Flashfire if you have it. No MM Roms are compatible, and Goldeneye was a good ROM when I used it. Personally I just rooted stock and customized it myself, but Goldeneye is good.
If you've already gone and flashed, then I hope all has gone well and whatnot.

Unfortunately no it won't work with the bootloader being locked, that's why when have to use flashfire to flash zip files.

root without custom recovery

Guys is that possible to root without flashing twrp recovery? Some says it's possible with magisk manager app which does not require custom recovery. I tried with kingroot but failed... Kindly help on this because I don't want to flash custom roms but I need root.

It's impossible as you can see kingroot was also failed. You need an unlocked device with a custom installed.

1. its impossible to root without custom recovery
2. Magisk needs custom recovery
3. I have never had any luck in rooting any of my phones using king-root. it will not work on Xiaomi Rn3 or Rn4. not sure about other device
4. Custom ROM is different and Custom recovery is different, - To root you NEED custom recovery. Custom ROM can only be installed after rooting and its purely your choice.
Hope my answer helped. Feel free to get back if any doubts
You can temporarily boot into twrp and install root if you have unlocked bootloader

Indeed. With fastboot, you can boot into a local (ie, on your PC) copy of TWRP
Code:
fastboot boot mytwrp.img

1. Go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re.../official-orangefox-recovery-project-t3807479
2. Follow the steps in numbers 1, 5, 6, and 8, in the "B. INSTALLATION - if you have stock miui Recovery" section (if you only want to boot, but not to flash TWRP).

i tried flashing the magisk 16.0,the magisk gets flashed but the phone does not boot up to system,
i dont get what mistake i am doing,
i want to use the 'CAMERA2 API' on my moto g4 plus,
and nothing else
But they say you need to root for that,
so i am trying
Please help me with this...
You need to flash a custom kernel (ElementalX) before rooting your device when using stock firmware.
In addition to thorin0815's message, you cannot root on the stock Motorola kernel - attempting to root on the hudsoncm kernel causes bootloops. You may be able to reboot to TWRP, restore your TWRP backup (you did make a backup, right?) then flash ElementalX, then magisk. If you're still bootlooping, you may have to re-flash the stock ROM then try again.

I'm not sure if king root or the one click root would work, if they don't flash the custom kernel first you'd be back with a non booting device. Best to flash root yourself, that way you'll also learn the process too
