Multi click on build number - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

You all know how if you multi click on the android version in 4.3 you come to the jelly bean screen. I was messing around on the about phone screen and I started to multi click on the build number and a notification popped up saying "you are 2 clicks away from being a developer". Anyone know what that is all about?

You click on the build number 7 times, Android enables the Developer Menu item in settings. Inside you can do a host of things - take bug reports, enable USB debugging etc.
Get the developer menu, get into it and explore further.

Thanks for the info

I think you would need to flash the ROM back to stock.

From the sounds of it he already know something about android. Just leave it alone. He probably knows enough not to use it. Besides, the settings there are not dangerous.

Why does it matter if they are there or not? They aren't hurting anything just being there and if you don't know anything about android you are better off just living with it.

Thanks guys, I hope he will learn to use them reading what you guys do,

Go and open developer options. On the top right corner there should be a switch to turn it off. I'm on a custom rom and I can't remember if this option is on stock rom. Worth a look.
If he wants the screen full Jelly Beans he needs to tap the Android Version.

Entering developer menu, top right corner has toggle to turn off on stock rom.
You can switch it of in the developer option but the option to reopen remains I wanted to know how to remove the option from settings list as if it hadn't been opened at all?

It's generally harmless.
Just thought I'd point out that the hidden developer options thing is kinda new to android, previous versions (ICS and below I believe) all had the developer options menu there right from the start, it's only since jellybean that they decided that you need to tap the build thing a couple of times to make it show.
Don't worry about it

Actually it started at 4.2. Everything up through 4.1.2 had it showing.
Thanx for all your help, there's a lot of decent people on xda.

Can't Access Dev Settings.

I don't have an option for developer settings at all. I went into "about tablet" and tapped the build number 7 times, it said I was a developer. Hit the back button, no option for Developer settings above "about tablet". Running 4.2.2, Nexus 7 16GB Wifi only.
Either I am really really dumb, or my Nexus is being weird.
Any help is welcome.
Go in the about menu. Tap the build number until it say "you are now a developper".

Did they hide that menu for any particular reason in the update? I wonder why custom roms don't have it automatically enabled...

Its hidden to keep those who have no business messing with those options from inadvertantly doing so.

How to access hidden menu

Does anyone know how to access the hiddenmenu.apk it looks useful but im not sure how to open this app any help would be nice
Sent from my SPH-L720
there are codes to access it... such as ##3424# and ##3282# and ##786# and so on... but if you don't know what you are doing then don't use them
Go to about phone screen inside the phones settings where the build number is and tap the build number and a count down begins, continue tapping build number and developer options menu will be unlocked.

Because for the majority of people have no use for the development options and they don't want people messing around with things they have no idea about.
Anyone who has use for them could easily find out to access them with a quick search.

[Q] A few questions before rooting gs4

Hello Everyone I have a few quick questions. I searched the web for answers but none turned up. I am very new to rooting phones but I love stock android so bad, I must have it. So here are my questions concerning rooting my SGs4.
I have rooted my nexus 4 and put Cyanogenmod on it in the past, is the process the same for the sgs4?
The sgs4 has many features iv never seen on Cyanogenmod, I could be wrong so will all my s4 features still work?
Finally whats this Build MF9 mean? iv recently bought my s4 does this build apply to me?
MF9 is the text code for the date the software was released. Go to settings - more - about device and look at your build number to see which version you are on. If not mf9 do the software update.
None of the touchwiz apps will work natively on an AOSP based rom but many of them (not all) have alternatives in the play store market
We should be getting an upadate to android 4.3 starting tomorrow so you may want to hold off and see how you like that first.

Yeah and all of the fancy gestures like the smart stay, smart scroll, air view and air gestures will not work on AOSP from my understanding. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As these people stated are true but to be honest if you plan to root do not update to 4.3 unless some devs says is a go for rooting. And if you do decide to upgrade, you might stay without root for awhile.
A rooted verson will be out before the OTA goes out.. The source is already available

Thank you all I read everyone's post, very helpful. I do have build number ending in mf9 so I think I'm good to root.
I don't think update will be cool and I don't need Samsungs bloat ware, truthfully I haven't used not one of their features.
I have had an amazing experience on cyanogen mod with my nexus 4.
Also I hear battery is amazing on Cm on gs4
