Bricked At Yellow Sprint Screen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Im in bad shape... any help would be awesome. I updated from stock rooted mf9 to MJA last night and all was good until I tried to fix native tether and accidentally selected the MF9 hack instead of the new one.... From that point forward I cant get the system to boot. It sits at the yellow sprint splash screen. I tried going back to MF9 and found that was a bad idea and got me nowhere. Still stuck at the yellow Sprint splash. Many thanks if anyone can help.

[Q] I bricked my Galaxy S4

I was trying to root my S4 using the video and downloads provided by QBking77. That did not work so I tried to update Samsung software.
I got a message saying the software has been downloaded and will be installed. Clicked yes and now all I get is a black screen with recover booting on the upper left hand side corner.
Please help.
Go do some research on Odin. I'm not very knowledgeable in this, I came from HTC, but I think Odin can help you.

First try pulling the battery and starting again. If you are still stuck you are going to want to Odin the stock tar back on.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I dunno what I did but somehow its working again. Pulled out the battery and still the screen with Samsung Galaxy S4 and recovery booting showing on the screen. Pressed the power off + volume down + home screen button and was somehow able to restart the phone which seems to be working fine now.
The problem is I dont know what happened there? And if its safe to go ahead and update the samsung software or not?
Any clue? Any advice is appreciated.
Sounds like a typical update fail to me. It will most likely do the same thing if you try again.

I need help

Hello!
I had my S4 rooted and nandroid back up. I was trying to install this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316308
I installed it and gapp installed too and rebooted. I got this message appears
"System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone"
upper corner in orange says "kernel Failed"
That means I did something wrong?
I read about odin. Does Stock rom get you back to fully stock?
Thanks
Did you run loki doki? see.your on at&t..locked bootloader and i dont think that rom is autolokied. Boot back into recovery flash ld.and see if it boots.
Yes odin will put your phone back to.stock, been there done that lol.

Ok, I been reading some threads about recovery, I didn't relieze, i was away from s3 so long. I just restored from backup data and it boots into this stuck Samsung screen with custom unlocked logo. Bootloop?
Havent seen that particular screen but yeah sounds like your bootlooped. If.you can three finger back into recovery and have a nandroid i would full wipe then Restore your back up (even though people.say restoring wipes anyway..id wipe.if u.are using twrp do not format data!).if.your still looped you may have to try and odin back to stock.firmware can be found on sammobile.com had to do this the other night due to a bad nandroid..lots of fun lol.

Thank you!:victory:
My heart dropped like fainting ghost after I see the at&t software showed up. I wiped factory reset and goes past the samsung with unlocked logo into at&t boot up like new phone. It took 5 mins to get into welcome screen. All is working.
Now, I begun to wondering why my logo says it bootloader unlocked and I download correct at&t rom is in? I use this causal download from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297900
I am trying to understand and pick my first rom. Was thinking downloading pure google rom. Had to read again
That mod.will loki your kernel, prolly why it says unlocked. I.have the.canadian. version..unlocked already thank.god lol.
A.simple wipe can work wonders..if you can get into.recovery and have something.to.flash most times your gona be okay.
Glad your back in.business!

Flash another kernel made for your device, or go thru the ODIN thing, your choice. this is for anyone who have that triangle.
Yes, I read some thread and the roms need kernel, without kernel installed which was has leaded me into that warning att screen. I tried again with roms above link with ktoon kernel and made it through. I was probably be dumb. Pardon me, lots to relearn here.
I own iPhone 4s but I went back to android.

You should be able to get rid of that boot screen with the lock on it by using triangle away. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

delete em (un-install), junk, are you getting spam and such? Did you install those? Do you have any protection on your device? Just curious.

BRICKED? Can you help?

So I have had AOKP and CM being flashed back and forth for months now, but I am headed out of town tomorrow on a long trip and want the stock experience for roaming/reception/mms/etc...
I used Rwilco12's Stock Restore Automatic ODIN from here - http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...H-L720)/Stock ROMs/MF9/No Data Restore/Rooted
Now when I went to download mode to run this bad boy and erase TWRP and AOKP and go back to stock, it randomly failed (not once, not twice but three times). SInce the first failed attempt it has been giving me a KIES error message about emergency firmware yadada. KIES won't recognize my phone tho, there was never any upgrades using KIES ever to my phone so I dont even have it setup and when I tried it wouldnt work.
What can I do to get any firmware working on my phone again? Right now I can access download mode and then any attempt to get into recovery/normal boot gives me that KIES error message.
PLEASE! I've got to get this fixed ASAP I'm leaving did not have time for this complication =[
Thank you in advance

Big question?
Did you take MJA update?
If so you can ONLY get to an MJA ROM. There is a thread for that.
You're in luck If your firmware is still on MF9 check this out. Make sure to run PC Odin 'As administrator'

I have no taken any updates in SOOOO long, since like I got the phone I immediately put TWRP and then just been flashing ROMs. I have no clue which it is in I would have to say older than MF9 even? I'll try the MF9 one tho this reallllly sucks. I've found guides for fixing it via KIES but you need the serial number which STUPIDLY is not located on the battery backing sticker =[
Thanks for your help
I think it might have been on MDL when I switched to AOSP? Trying to find a MDL ODIN restore do you think that would work?

Well if you don't have MJA (4.3) the mf9 method will work.
Kies blows a** in my opinion.
Things to keep in mind:
Start PC Odin as admin
put phone into Download before pluging it into PC.
Make sure you have a GOOD or BRAND NEW USB cable. [probably 20 times I've seen this be an issue too!].
If phone shows up on COM port then flash away.
First boot takes about five earth minutes. If it doesn't move past the yellow sprint bootscreen to 'update applications' after that time try a batter pull and restart. Then another five minutes. [sometimes flashing another kernel (back to downlaod mode, pc odin kernel in PDA slot) will resolve issue if batter pull didn't work after full .tar flash.
I
Kies definitely blows, I've never used it. Just since that's the only thing I can see is the KIES error message or download mode I figured I might be able to recover via KIES.
I tried a MF9 one click one nodata one no-root/deletes data, a couple times on both with two different cords and having no luck. My last shot is this MDL stock file I'm flashing via regular odin prayin it will work..
Waiting waiting waiting it's been on boot.img flashing part for ages now -_- I hope it didnt freeze.

Like I mentioned (and others in the followups to my linked post) said, might have to do it a couple times or do battery pull. Maybe flash a custom kernel (KToonz etc) then try and boot.
Also you mentioned you think y were on mdc or mdl, you could grab one of those one clicks and give that a go too.

Couldn't find a one click for MDL but I found the tar file which I'm flashing in the PDA section. Trying on my 3rd go now but it keeps freezing on the boot. I waited a good 20 minutes its just stuck there. I will keep trying, already pulled battery many times. I will look into a kernel because the one click/pda in odin is getting me no where =[
Sucks had the GS, GS2 and GS4 and never had a fail with ODIN until the one time I desperately need a freakig phone!

Thought of something that saved me from taking a hammer to one of my phones. Take the battery out for at least twenty minutes to clear any residual stuff. Put it back in, boot to download mode try flashing again

Will leave it out now while I look for a kernel or MDL one click.
I just don't get it, it keeps failing when it tries to flash the boot.img part of the md5. This is just ridiculous ODIN always fixes the problem and now it just hates the **** out of me. So frustrated :crying:
OHHH UPDATE::: I just tried ODIN 3.04 after trying the three versions released since 3.04 and it made it past BOOT! It's flashing the system as I type. Fingers freaking crossed!!!
WELL! I'm getting somewhere. The ODIN was successful with 3.04 and an MDL tar file!
However I'm stuck on the yellow logo big time, took battery out after waiting 7 minutes and again when booting stuck on the yellow sprint screen. Should I try one of the MF9 one clicks again now that I'm free from the Kies error?

Two things that have helped me out. 1) upgrade the samsung drivers to the latest. Or 2) Whenever Im stuck in a bottloop or The Yellow Sprint screen after flashing to a stock rom is to go into stock recovery and do a factory reset. It usually works for me..
GS4 Stock Rooted MJA 4.3,Philz Touch CWM,HotSpot Mod,Transparent Weather Widget,8SMS(Stock Messaging,KitKat)

Stuck in Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen

Hey all, in need of a little assistance. I was running the tri-force 5.3 rom. loved it, but saw that 5.4 came out. I tried downloading it and got stuck at a screen where it said it had failed. i then tried to follow the steps by reflashing the stock rom and now i am stuck at the spash screen with the red and yellow words at the top. or it pops up saying System software not authorized by samsung has been found on your phone. with yellow triangle in the middle. Anyone know what i need to get past this screen? I believe i was running an MDL prior to this if it helps. I also can still get into the download screen (power + vol down)
If you were still in mdl then just odin back to mdl and start fresh again.

which files am i going to need to do this? if you could just point me in the right direction ill be able to figure it out. I appreciate it
We need to know what firmware you were on before you installed the custom rom. If you were on MF9 or older you can download the MF9 tar file and odin it to your phone. If you were on MJA or MK2, then you need to download the MK2 tar file and odin that.

im pretty sure it was MDL. i bought the phone in early january. is their a way to check without being able to go past the splash screen?
Alright I figured it out. All i was doing wrong was not installing the firmware in odin. got my phone back up and running. Now my problem is installing triforce 5.4. loved the rom, but everytime i flash it, it gets stuck at the splash screen. any suggestions?

[Q] Is there anyway to get the Sprint boot animation back?

I have flashed a few roms since I have had this phone and have lost the stock boot animation for sprint (yellow splash) along the way. This never really bothered me but now the time has come to upgrade to a new phone. I was planning on giving my old phone to my mother and wanted to get it back to practically 100% stock. This is the only thing I am missing. I have looked around the forums and Google for a few days now with my free time but all to no avail. So the question is is there a way to get it back and if so how. Thanks all!

Just flash the stock NAE tar file and it will return your phone to out of the box stock.
I have flashed it to go back to stock but I only get the Samsung logo and am still missing the Sprint splash screen on boot and power off.
Sent from my SPH-L720
I have solved the problem after flashing the stock tar again I found an app by Samsung called Refresh Customization by Samsung on the app store and by using that I manged to get the Sprint splash screen back and everything is now where it should be.
