i don't see why not but most places use a DTV box..I haven't been able to get this working at home yet, can't find the right brand for my cable box in watchon
I done it at a hospital while waiting around during my mom's surgery. Nobody was waiting around so no pranking there, but it was nice to watch something other than talk shows.
Definitely works
I've done this at a sports bar after the waitress made me angry because he wanted to watch some stupid tennis match so I took it on my self to change it. I love watch on.

Ok. So the media hub is out. Looks like you can rent and/or own movies depending on title. The renting is 2.99. I've found own for 9.99 and 12.99. I'm a little worried about paying DVD prices (or somewhat less for some titles) and not getting the DVD, or getting the ability to transfer to another viewing device, ie. dvd, computer. Anyone know what the lowdown is on transfers, etc? I know I've had a hard time trying to find a movie that I can actually put on this phone via dvd ripping from my own dvd library (if that's even legal) or for download from any legal source online. At least the media hub has that going for it.
Anyone know if there are other avenues to actually use the awesome power of this device to watch movies in my palm? Is Media Hub better than?
Ps. I think it is funny that Forrest Gump is listed as comedy. Nice job classifying that one guys.

Nope, just Vibrant as far as I can tell.
Does it bill to your Sprint bill or is there separate payment information?
probably have to stop by the store so they can take a melon baller to your seat cushion.
I'm not really sure how the payment works. I exchanged my phone today due to the back button issue. Now I haven't received the new update yet.
Media hub payments
Ok. So I broke down and bought the latest star trek. Basically, you enter your credit card information into Media Hub the app stores it there (actually, I think it stores it on Samsung's server). I don't think there are any alternatives. Now, based on the current download rate and percentage, I should be able to watch it sometime next week.

3G? 4G? Wifi? On 4G, the previews always played for me instantly. Even the 2 and a half minute trailers.
I watched a few previews over 4g. I have to admit the video quality was excellent and playback smooth. This might be good for an occasional rental, but once netflix comes out for Android they can kiss this goodbye.

download speed and AllShare
Well it looks like there is no AllShare support. Can't push this thing to my TV (actually PS3) for viewing. The movie doesn't show up in the AllShare list. I'm not surprised I guess, just disappointed. My guess is that the movie is not being stored in any meaningful format so AllShare couldn't read it if it wanted to. Of course, there could be a way around or some setting I'm missing. I don't think it's a setting at this point though. Media Hub has no settings anywhere that I can find.
The video quality is pretty awesome, no skips, studders, sloops, woops, or whillips. The sounds wasn't *bad*. It's a decent movie viewing experience - even for a big screen action blockbuster. Would be awesome during a long flight, or similar, without having to drag along extra electronics.
However, combined with there currently being no mini-usb to hdmi cable means no support to watch Media Hub movies on a bigger screen. Looks like I'm back to looking for another solution to watching movies on my phone. 12 bucks isn't really a good investment vs. the actual DVD/Blueray (3 dollars more on Amazon). If I was wealthier, maybe. I think this means I won't be using Media Hub, except for the one movie I already paid for.
About the download speed:
I didn't bother trying to watch it before the download was finished so I don't know if that is possible. I think it was a 1-2 hour download but I didn't keep track, maybe I could have started it sooner. Not to bad I guess (over wifi). I couldn't imagine doing this over 3g...definitely an overnight thing.
I know I'm requesting this in the wrong place but I have an idea for something to add to smartphones. An infrared transmitter/receiver.
I'm sitting here on the patio, looking at the TV in the living room that is on while the person who was watching it is asleep. I was just thinking of how I could continue to be lazy yet get something done that needs to be done without getting off my lazy fat ass. I wish my phone had infrared so I could point the phone towards the tv and turn it off. I'm probably the only person that thinks that would be cool. Remember those Casio remote control watches? Boy the fun you could have at a mall, electronics store, or a bar or restaurant with an incognito remote!

Got it working?
Has any one tried to view sky go via hdmi cable to a larger tv screen ? i know sky have blocked this feature on the official app but i wondered if any of the hacked apks had disabled that ?
Keeping an eye on youtube to see if someone does that. I haven't got the cable to do it but I will be trying this out when I get a chance. Official cable is needed for hdmi output afaik. The picture quality takes a while to get to an acceptable standard but after a few minutes it's not bad. I'm interested to see if it watchable on a 40 inch lcd tv. Sky seriously needs to get the finger out on this one, 720p/480p would be awesome on the S3. A work around for a browser on the S3 would be one possible way of getting a higher resolution closer to how it performs on a laptop. A better official app is enevitable at somestage though, I'm surprised Samsung didn't partner with Sky instead of just Eurosport for the S3. Probably not worth the hassle for them. Stupidity in my opinion on sky's part though as it makes their services a whole lot more marketable to support more android devices. Wouldn't be too surprised if apple were paying sky to drag their feet on their android rollout.

There are checks that could be ignored, or made to return false, edited in a similar way as 'cracking' the version so it works on all version.

Downloaded cracked .apk and hiding root but when trying to use it the app tells me it needs to be updated and when you click to update it it takes you to Play Store and says "Your device isn't compatible with this version"
Is there an updated version of the cracked .apk?

Hi ,
Just noticed this thread and thought some of you might appreciate this tip i posted in transformer Prime forum few months back regarding Sky go.
Long story short i love F1 hate sky so friend gave me one of his sky device keys and i installed on to PC (hooked up to 42" Bravia) rather than Prime as you can stream Sky go from the Pc to tab/phone using Splashtop.
So basically 2 devices only having 1 registered obviously not full functionality of 2 devices but multiple screens and add more by installing Splashtop on more of your devices .

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Strange, I was also surprised by that 4.0 rather then 4.x reference. And I think you are right about headphone 3.5mm jack as the only way to listen to the music. Would have been great if they would include a camera in there.

Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

We're fully aware. It's just between recent offerings like the Omate Truesmart and previous offerings like every chinese watch phone out there, this one seems like too little too late to really make sense right now.

Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! First of all I just got to say the fact that I don't have simple apps such as ABC, Fox or HBO Go is a letdown. I still have to switch between my NP and ATV. I don't understand why the NP is so restrictive. I wish I can run full android with the android TV interface. Not this walled garden without many good apps.
What I really like about the NP is the recommendations feature of Android TV. It is well done and pulls in the videos from various apps. I like this curation.
I use the sideloader app and cloud to side load apps. I was able to side load the MSG Go app on the NP. Noticed that it was in portrait mode so I had to download another app to force landscape on all apps. When I watch the video on the msg go app it isn't crisp. I see the scan lines on the movement from the basketball games and the quality isn't HD. On my iPad the same app looks great. Both run off the same wifi so I don't know why the quality is bad on the NP. Maybe there is a setting I need to toggle but the other videos are fine.
What really is frustrating is that apps like Netflix don't work when updated, I have to turn off auto updates for apps to not break anything. It is difficult to know when an update will improve or break an app. It is also difficult to know when an app is compatible or a great android app can be side loaded without compromise.
If anyone has any advise please lay it on me.

You can sideload and install whatever you like onto it. But developers have to say they support Android TV in order for it to appear on the Nexus Player through the store because a lot of them don't work with just a remote control, and devs don't want to get emails or bad reviews for not supporting it. You wanna complain about this, go moan at the devs for not making their app suitable for a TV interface.

Well thats a risk you're gonna have to live with. If its deemed compatible by the developers, it'll be in the Play Store to install on the Nexus Player. If its not, its your risk. There's endless apps, and a very small market for Android TV so a lot of devs just won't bother yet.
Exactly my point. Great experience horrible development
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Maybe the point is that you DON'T sideload. Just because it can be done doesn't mean you'll get a good experience when you do it.
The way Google intended it to be is as a heavily curated selection.....or so they say.
I used to side load but now I don't. I'm not going to use an air mouse or keyboard to control my TV. Usually if there isn't an official app like HBO Go, you can still cast. I would much rather do this than hack my way through some side loaded app.
Sent from my XT1096 using Tapatalk
I think we are still in a transitional period. Small developers are trying to get the most from their work so they go different places. But some of this stuff is simply politics. Fox, ABC, HBO, Amazon make political choices not based on hardware or software limitations. Why does Watch ESPN work on Fire TV with the controller but on the Nexus Player you need to sideload and use a mouse? Politics at play. Why do I have to sideload Kodi onto the Fire TV? More politics.

Side loading is the only way to get the apps that I use regularly on the device I want it on. My point is that it shouldn't be a walled garden and Google should make it so apps like abc, ESPN etc are already on the system. No reason for those basic ones not to be.

It isn't a walled garden if you can sideload. However you are expecting all sideloaded apps to run as they are on a TV when they are made to be used on a touchscreen in the first place.
What you should be ranting is why not more companies or devs release apps that are remote optimized, instead of barking up the wrong tree. Google isn't stopping those companies from releasing TV compatible apps - those companies are the ones not doing so.
