Hello guys, I currenly have i9505 android 4.2.2 I9505XXUDMGG

I would really like to upgrade to 4.3 but I am not sure which version should I download, I would like to root after.
so basicaly
1. Which version should I download? which country? I have no idea what country-region is currently installed
2. How should I flash the new rom if my knox flag is triggered? still ODIN as usual?
3. I have titanium backup installed, after I install a clean rom will i be able to transfer all apps from titanium?
Thanks guys !

[Q] knox normal behaviour?

I was in stock I9500UBUBMG1, then I used auto-root and after that I flashed cwm recovery via odin. Everything worked fine in despite of Custom Binary and custom system status in dowload mode. So tried miui rom, but after 2 months I decided to come back to stock I9500UBUBMG1.
curiously, all status are Official again.
Is that normal? since I just use stock 4.2.2 (old bootloader) or custom roms I can always return to official?
If I update via OTA will still official and show knox 0x0? (not that I would update).
If I install a 4.3 or 4.4 based rom I can return to MG1 with offical? or just if isn't TW based?
Thanks
I too have a question relevant to Knox behaviour: I am on Stock 4.2.2 MG1 firmware. I would like to Root and use Custom firmware. Any possible way not to trip Knox Counter? Anyway to save or backup my current modem / firmware, so that I can flash back to it if Knox is tripped?

if you update your phone to a rom with knox bootloader, then you can't root and install custom recovery without tripping knox flag.. otherwise, on 4.2.2 you can root and return to stock rom(only 4.2.2) to get fully official status.. consider flashing latest roms modified to support old bootloaders.. so you can keep away all knox things... press thanks if it helps..

As we are in the old bootloader, we don't need to complain about knox, since we can flash stock MG1 back. You just need to pay attention because some custom firmware are imcompatible with old bootlader (or modem, idk) and if i'm not wrong, some custom roms can update your bootloader. There are some methods that will not turn your status to custom, but I think that auto-root and flash custom recovery is the best way to install a custom rom.
Thanks so much for that info!
I've Rooted using Ryebread76's method:
If you plan to flash custom firmware, as in a ROM, your going to trip KNOX. If you just want root, I used saferoot. It's for the VZW version, but it works just fine for the i337M.
Any suggestions on Custom Recovery / Firmware that will not change 4.2.2 MG1 bootloader?

It will not trip knox, since it is not activated in MG1.

[Q] [I9505] Custom rom on KN0X tripped phone?

Hey all, I'd like to install this rom, but my phone (S4 international GT-i9505) is KN0X tripped on 4.3. I currently run 4.3 stock. Is it safe to install this rom, and is it possible to downgrade back to 4.3 stock after?

Yup you can flash any custom rom via custom recovery and Yes you can still downgrade your phone into 4.3 stock rom but remember not to flash a Stock 4.4.2 Kitkat firmware because flashing 4.4.2 firmware can no longer downgrade to 4.3 stock rom. Flashing any custom rom/root will trigger your knox and If you wanna know more about knox , check this thread Have a nice day.

[Q] What do I need before upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4.2?

Ok for one I know I have Knox Bootloader as I have the 0x1 on the bootloader.
Other than that I am currently running 4.3 and not even sure what bootloader I have or how to check it anymore.
Samsung Galaxy S4 SPH-L720
Baseband: L720VPUFNAE (so NAE modem)
So what steps do I need to do to upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4.2?
With NAE do I need to go back to Stock first or can I just update to NG2 Radio?
Is my Bootloader compatible all I know is it's Knox but not what version it is and not sure how to check.
I have made a full Titanium Backup and Online Nandroid Backup so I have all my backups prepared.
Here you go, just follow everything on the link and you should be up to date.

[Q] is it safe to downgrade from lollipop to katkat?

hi guys!
i am having samsung s5 g900h, i updated it to lollipop few months back n now i want to downgrade it to kitkat(too much battery drain issue), so i want to know is it safe to downgrade? any problems after downgrading? and what about knox it is 0x0 now will it get affected?
please give me procedure for downgrading and method to root it on kitkat (towelroot will work on kk?)
you should be fine, I updated to lollipop then downgraded back to kitkat easily, you just need to find the file you need for your model and odin that and it should work, for the knox, im not sure about it, but there might be a chance it will be reverted back to 0x0, but you will need to wipe your data in the recovery, or it might not boot at all, and for downgrade/root i use skipsoft android toolbox, it has all the items you would need to downgrade or install root if you want.

Installing custom roms onto untouched I9505 (5.0.1, I9505XXUHOE4 KNOX 2.3)

Hi,
I'm new to the custom roms and would like to see advice on the recommended method to install a custom rom onto my untouched I9505. It's currently running Lollipop 5.0.1, I9505XXUHOE4 with KNOX 2.3
Thank you
This would belong into the Q&A section.
Anyway, the first thing you will need to do is to install a custom recovery. I recommed TWRP.
Just google twrp s4.
Optional: if you want to backup any apps or data, you will have to root first. Use odin and cf auto root.
After you installed a custom recovery, just look for a rom that interests you and flash it. Every rom has flash instructions.
Also check to make sure your phone doesn't have a locked bootloader. If it does, things are going to get complicated. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. AT&T and Verizon lock the bootloaders.
Thanks for info GDReaper.
My concern here is KNOX. Will the new bootloader affect anything on the custom roms as compared to a pre KNOX bootloader. Do I need to downgrade the firmware first?
Thanks
Hi @elus,
Installing any custom firmware will trip Knox. You can't downgrade it to pre-Knox bootloader.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Knox will not affect anything. Flashing custom firmware will only trip knox. This means that you lose your warranty. But the warranty is crap anyway, so it doesn't matter.
You won't see any trace of knox in custom roms. You might as well forget you ever had something called knox.
An easy way to root the ROM with TWRP is to flash supersu.zip from TWRP. Upon first boot, open supersu and let it disable knox and update binary files if necessary. You should be fine from that point forward.
Great! Thanks guys for the guide. Let the custom rom mods begin! Happy New Year Everybody!
