new update battery drain???? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i think there is a problem with the new update. it is draining the battery alot faster then it did before. i fully charged it and did 10 min of browsing on wifi in my home and it went from 100% to 93% in about 10 min. anyone else having draining issues.?

UPDATE......i did a factory reset and i think that might of fixed my issues. ill give it a little more time and report back

Check and see if Nearby Devices is draining most of that battery. In my experience, that was the culprit for rapid battery drain after a reboot.

Please let us know.. I did the update today, and I noticed exactly the same thing, from 100% to 93% in about 10 minutes

So after resetting the phone with the factory reset it did help a little. I also debloated the apps but I should give it a couple of days to settle in. I'm currently at 80% with 1hr and 30 min of screen on time.

I have 8 hours on time with 3 hours screen on. At 50%
However it was on charger for about 20 minutes while watching YouTube.

This is my battery stats for today after the update.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2

so its seems a factory reset did help. i didn't lose root or anything. just had to download my apps and setup the settings. hope this helps guys

So the battery still seems to be draining more. Usually by 50% I usually have at least 3 hrs and 15 min screen on time and now I am at 2 hrs and 50 min at 48%. Something is Def draining more then it should. Nothing special shows up under wake clocks and I'm doing the same stuff as before the update

Prior to update. Was down to 33% then tried to update but it failed. I'm actually happy with mine and nervous about updating.

I had the same issues after my update. I then went and froze mobeam, all Knox services, enterprise.knox, knoxs.eventmanager, and a Security wipe apk. Let my note drain all the way until it powered down. Let it charge full cycle while turned off. So far with 1hr and 45 mins of on screen on time I'm down 15%. I feel like that's decent. Been on xda app pretty heavy and 2 different games straight with no screen timeouts. Seems about right to me.

i just feel like i had better battery life before the update. they must of raised the power usage to get the better wifi signal or something. but its def using more power the before.

I have had a time where by battery dropped 15% within 1-2 hours, but then I was stuck on a certain percentage for hours.
Hello, I started a thread 2 weeks ago and it has some good info there. Take a look.
I update the OP regularly adding post made by others. No one has posted anything in a week. If you find how to fix your problems please post it there and I will add it to the OP. Its up to everyone to keep that thread alive.

I've had issues as well. Mine are related to GPS wakelock. Every fresh boot I will consistently get a partial wakelock of 100% because of the GPS. Simply opening Maps and closing it will force the wakelock to release.
I'm curious as to why others aren't having this issue, yet some of us are?
I've tried the EB01 modem as well as the DL09 modem and its the same results. Aside from this, battery life is great...

When you say 'idle' do you mean like zero apps running (like stopping everything running via a task killer). Then what,, like keep the phone's screen lit up by not letting it sleep and monitor the battery drain over a period of time? I'll have to try that and see how mine does. I'm guessing mine will prolly drop 15-20% as well if I have the screen lit for a solid hour.. hmm
I didnt really think mine was working 'bad' though, I just figured thats about what these batteries in these could do. I can make it though a day without a re-charge but I admit I have to budget my usage of the phone thoughout the day.. not using it for long solid periods of time and such.. If 15-20% an hour drain would be considered 'bad', how much should it drop in an hour to be considered working 'well' in your opinions?
Well I spent all day charging, using and then recharging my phone. it died in about 5:45 hrs of med to heavy use. I used the method outlined in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987529
I lost 5% battery in 45 min this morning which would have been nice but it was idle in my pocket. :-(
I gave up... reflashed 2.92nv and im checking to make sure its not having same issue.
If anyone has more suggestions there are now 2 pages i found for this problem specific to the facinate.
My battery is pretty decent after clearing battstats. Heavy use I'll lose about 13% per hour. Idle is decent, 3-5% per hour.
2.9.2 ec10voodoo
Ok I did a little test with mine - I set my LCD screen timeout setting to 10 minutes, turned my wifi and gps off (left the cell radio on), killed all apps that were running in task manager. Then I sat the phone down on my desk with the screen lit up and tapped the screen every 8-9 minutes or so just to keep it from going to sleep for one solid hour. I didnt do anything else with or use the phone in any way during this time. My battery dropped 18% in one hour. Think I'll try the batt stat clear procedure and redo the same test and see if its any different.
Mine is horrible. For some reason, it drains in proportion to my use. If I use it constantly, and hardly put it down, I'm lucky to only get 6 hours out of it.
I don't get decent life unless I put it in airplane mode, turn off rotation, and don't use it. Then I'm good for
16 - 18 hours.
WTF¿
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I can understand getting 6 to 8 hours if your a heavy user. but Im only concerned with my idle battery use. Juicedefender help some what. you can get it on the marketplace.
I'm still having the same issue with the nonvoodoo version. I'm still not sure how some users are getting over 40 hours of battery life.
as far as I can tell recalibrating my battery had no effect on the battery life. I plan on trying to recalibrate 1 more time in case I messed up the process. I will post my results in a day or 2. good luck to the rest of you. if you find anything out that may help me or anyone else please post it here

Atrix not charging past 88%

As of Saturday evening, my phone will no longer charge past 88%. Earlier on Saturday, the phone was charged to 100% in my car. We lost power and the phone ran down to 3% before I was able to charge it again.
After charging over 8 hours, the phone would not go past 88%. Any ideas?

I have not tried that. Weird thing is, the battery calibration app reads 4196mV at 70% while charging and ~4200 while at 88%.
Just go to CWM recovery and wipe battery stats. Do a few charge recharge cycle. It should be OK.

Charge to 88% or until you notice it not going any further. Turn off the phone. Plug in the charger and wait until the battery display shows. While the phone is still plugged in, remove the battery. Wait for it to boot up and show a no battery icon (or something like that). Once it does, put the battery back in and leave it for about 30 mins. When you hit the volume buttons, the display will show between 5-10% charged. Anyway, after about 30 mins, turn the phone one and it should show 100%. Re-calibrate the battery after that using the app or recovery.
Are all android batteries like this? I've never had a device with such finicky battery stats. I too have the 88% problem and i feel like im recalibrating every week. I will try again.

I don't think they're all like this..but I know its as annoying as F***. Every morning almost i'm doing the "battery pop out" trick just so that it'll read full. It would be different if it read 95% or something and stuck there for awhile until the battery caught up to the actual reading..but it doesn't. The battery continues to drain at a normal rate, so you basically lose however many % you had initially.
Definately annoying..

do you have the same battery issues on your galaxy?
So I've been sitting at 1% for the past hour. Been playing games, have wifi, bluetooth, GPS all turned on.
Thing will just not turn off!
EDIT: Right as soon as I post this, it turns off. Over 1 hour on 1%.
Will recharge tonight and hopefully it works right.
I had this problem for a while but you should know that it will fix itself eventually. The phone is fully capable of re-learning the limits of the battery and after several days will begin to display the correct charging status. Mine took about a week to start displaying 99% in the morning.
This happened after I did the complete discharge, charge, pull battery, charge again, then boot procedure. It was fine for a couple of days then started displaying 82% as a full charge then slowly got better. I'm fairly confident that I'm not leaving anything on the table in terms of capacity either since with moderate use and turning off wifi when I leave the house I'm getting about two days of charge.
Sounds like a jumping battery problem to me.

It sound like you have a faulty battery if it only lasts three hours, I think you would have to be gaming to flatten a good battery in that time.
John.
Mine is the same. If I'm browsing the web, using instagram, Facebook and receiving email my battery will go from full to empt in easily 3 to 4 hours.
Backup, factory reset, reinstall apps from market (try to install only the ones you use a lot at first), restore the data you need. If you're still seeing the same things happening, install a battery logger / system logger. Use this guide to see if there's a rogue app that's causing the trouble: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
If it's still acting up and you cannot identify any unusual drain, I'd ask for a replacement.
After you get things sorted, you can use apps like Juice Defender from the Market to prolong your battery life even more.

thanks guys for the sincere contribution.... i hope your advices help me...
my top battery consuming activities are:
temple run
google play
msging
go launcher
and nothing else
gaming and browsing certainly make the battery drain almost visibly..
things above and beyond the above to try include..
1. reduce screen brightness
2. reduce frequency of or disable background updates by apps
3. no vibrate notifications
4. work more, play less!..lol
the battery life of the Note is great, unless you use it .. a battery monitor will allow you to see the battery drain over time..this will help when you address item #2 above.. if you accept default refresh times, and have lots of social apps your battery can die in 6-7 hrs without even using the Note at all!..

some hints for better battery life
Got mine the other day. First charge battery was fine. Second charge went down 7% in about 5-10 mins. Then it restarted :/ Came back on, down to 88%. Turned the phone off as was frustrating me as it restarted 3 times yesterday. But when I turned it back on I was at 83%?
Hasn't last me the day, it's on charge now. When it pops up telling me to charge it tells me to shut all apps and that using while charging may effect it charging. Is this correct? I didn't think it would have anything to do with it?
3 to the 4 hours continuous use is normal... Only if your phone is standby and then depletes in that time You should be worried. I recommend researching wakelocks in that case.
There are many variables that can atribute to batterylife depletion. Eliminate those first and you will have your answer.
I had best results on stunner version 19. To bad it has the death kernel (leaked ics)

Sudden, horrible battery drain. Story inside

I usually leave my phone on a charger for 80% of the day (I know, it's bad) but yesterday I decided not to for once. I was getting good battery life, I was down to about 70% in 12 hrs. Well, in the evening it started to suddenly drop, and I I'd isn't think much of it. An hour went by, went from 50ish% to 30%. I figured I was using it too much, another hour went by, and I get an alert that my battery is less than 10%. I picked up my phone that was playing Spotify at the time, to find it nice and warm to the touch. My instinct told me to restart it since I was on the road and no where near near a charger. It quickly cooled down and I made it to a changer in time.
Is there anyway to figure out what could have drained it, or should I just try and replicate what happened and be prepared with a wake lock detector?

I am experiencing the same crazy battery drain after upgrading to 4.4. On my Batt use, "Android System" is by far and away the highest batt drainer right now and normally its quite low. Something is amiss. I'm gonna do a factory reset. I assume its on of my apps or something not cooperating with 4.4
My phone runs quite a bit hotter after the NB1 update too. Battery life is all over the place with sometimes being good and sometimes draining way fast. I tried factory resetting and also reloading the software with the Odin version and no change.

Battery Drain on LMY48M

Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed high battery drain on LMY48M?
Since the update my battery doesn't seem to be lasting the day if I have mobile data on and I use it occasionally. Basically unplug at 7:30am and by 3pm I need to start charging it. There's no obvious process draining it.
I did replace the battery 5 weeks ago and was working fine. Well into 20+ hours with use. Then not long after the update I noticed this issue.
Any thoughts on what could do?
Edit: Should have used the search (noob mistake I know) it's obviously an issue most are seeing on this build.
Are there any recommendations on Kernels to switch to, seraphore (sic) I've seen mentioned.
I'm always wary of updates in case something detrimental happens, but I recently updated to 48M and have seen no adverse effects. Phone on since 6:30 and still at 60%. Definitely no battery drain here.
