what is their source ?
According to a sales rep in Sweden that has yet to be wrong, the G2 is getting 4.4 indeed. We'll see if it pans out, but he's been right every time before.

Would love a source before I get all giddy
I know it will eventually gets updates to 4.4. But soon? I am still skeptical. I would love nothing more than to be prove wrong in this matter.
-LG G2
I really hope LG make a change and get better with updates! I would hope 4.4 is out this year for the G2, and I personally expect them to release 4.5 or 5.0 and maybe 1 update past that if the hardware can still handle it...

...... the G2 launched with 4.2.2 even though 4.3 was already out. I don't see LG releasing an official 4.4 any time soon. As much as I would like it, I just don't see it happening.

Maybe they'll just skip 4.3 and go right to 4.4!
they are making Nexus 5 for Google, who know, just enjoy your G2 now , awesome phone for me
I'd be happy just knowing what 4.4 has to offer. We know very little about it and everyone is going crazy to get it. We will see what they do, If LG wants to compete they will have no choice but to keep up with updates
I don't see any major benefits of getting new android version soon. Better is to fix small issues that G2 have now. I noticed that some companies skip android versions to deliver "latest and greatest". That's good until they do not delay issues to be fixed.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Yeah, its not uncommon to skip versions.
I'm pretty happy with my 4.2.2 though. What I would really prefer at this point is an AOKP 4.3 or something along the lines of it.
I think the issues with 4.3 will probably make most companies wait for 4.3. I will have to look at my son's phone to see what version Verizon has him on.

Don't worry, those of us with Verizon are surely going to have to wait a long time (for the official one, anyway.)

"Soon" is relative. LG has historically been slow at updating, I hope they break that mold because the G2 is a pretty awesome device.
LG needs to be faster with these updates. They made 2 nexus devices now so they need ti get their act together.

hoping for a 4.4 or 4.3 by holiday season
LGs update reputation is not very good. Yet G2s good hardware

[Q] Flashing Nexus 5 firmware on G2? (when N5 is released)

Hey guys,
Just a quick question. When the Nexus 4 was released, it was pretty much identical to the Optimus G. People figured out how to flash the Nexus 4 stock firmware onto the G, and inturn the G turned into a Nexus 4, and received all Nexus 4 updates. Do you guys think this will be possible with the Nexus 5 and G2? I've just bought a G2 because I am too impatient to wait for the Nexus 5, and I'm hoping I'll be able to do it
no, n5 has different hardware

How so? Same CPU, same amount of ram, same res screen, pretty much everything is the same except the camera and the G2 has an IR blaster...

The main board, kernel and other smaller parts such as sensors and memory will be different chips (most likely) so although the N5 software should be a, relatively, easy port to the G2 I would strongly recommend you don't try flashing your G2 with any software for the N5 unless it is specifically advised to do so.
You can't ever flash anything without modification or porting of some kind. Will it boot likely but not everything is likely top work either.

Im not entirely sure it would even boot. Either way you have a very high chance of causing some kind of software brick which although is fixable can be a long and annoying process.
I still having figured out why people are drooling over boring aosp...it doesn't even out bench stock but maybe 4.4 will be light and fluffy as promised

There's just something about AOSP that I love, but not entirely sure what it is. I've had every Nexus device except the Nexus One, and I've loved them all, and they always seem to be the devices I keep the longest
There's high resemblance between CM and the stock Nexus 4, with CM having the upper hand with features the stock roms are lacking (e.g. the latest added call blocking). So, we're in good hands don't worry.

You can have AOSP on the G2 without needing the nexus firmware. And for the Nexus 5 firmware to work on the G2... it needs pretty much every inch of hardware to be the same... not just the main parts. Look at the development forums... theres already AOSP based ROMs

Only for the American variants. Unfortunately us in Europe are stuck with very little choice in that department at the moment. And all because stupid American carriers require different hardware variants. :crying:

Plenty of AOSP Roms for the D802. D800 just got CM and D803 just got Carbon. It's just a snowball effect, well be getting even more as time goes on.

I hope so, at the moment it seems all the American G2s are having a party while us here in Europe are a little high and dry.
I don't wish to be hypocritical, if i were intelligent enough I would develop my own ROMS but i find all that way to complex for me xD

LG makes good phones but I likes samsung. Both are great phones. It would be a personal preference.

I would take the G2, biggee battery and faster cpu I believe. ..but no storage slot for sdcards, so make sure it has enough storage for your needs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
your gonna get 100 posts of different views, always happens. print out the specs on both. list what you like don't like with the s4. and see which phone will work best for the way you use it. neither is a bad phone. also, if possible you have to get that phone in your hands to play with. :good:
assume you also are checking the lg forum
If you thinking about LG phone why don't you buy Nexus 5?
I've had bad experiences with lg android phones in the past..but it looks like they've stepped up their game lately

I had the LG G and absolutely love it. I wanted the LG G2 during my upgrade, but they're out of it so settled for the HTC One. Wife has the S4.
I personally liked the G2, but I just couldnt get used to the buttons on the back so I stuck with my S4.

How is LG when it comes to SW updates?

Hi guys, just a new LG user here. How is LG when it comes to SW update? Are the updates through OTA only or any PC or laptop application like Sony's PC Companion or Sony Update Service? And does LG carry the newest UI and apps they have on their latest phone like G3's flat UI carrying over to let's say G2 on a SW update like how Sony and Samsung are doing? Sorry really have no ideas when it comes to LG. Please bear with my noob questions.

Well the update to kit Kat actually came pretty quickly so that gets thumbs up from me.
Problem is LG release an update then that is shipped to your carrier who then has to test it and then release to it a customers and that is what takes the time.
This means that when LG release the update to when you actually get it can take many months and sometimes you never get it.
None if this applies to carrier free or rooted phones.

Ah yeah, I've read lots of SW update concerns re locked units and mine is is also locked with a network here in the Philippines. Hopefully my network is fast in pushing SW updates as well as LG as I like the G3's UI.

That would be great if they would follow HTC on the release updateof Android L. Actually guys I'm a G2 mini user. I just posted here on G2 section as there are only few members that are in the G2 mini section. Guess the mini isn't that popular at all.

as I posted HTC or anyone could release an update days after official Google release it could and probably will take months to filter down to consumers.
it's one thing that temped me to the nexus but needed up with the g2.

I bought this until I saw how quickly the Moto X got updated. Hell the Samsung phones got KK well before the G2.
Hopefully the pressure from the other OEMs drives LG to get their software updates sooner.

LG did get the update out in reasonable time scale.
New devices do get updates faster to keep them competitive and as I said more goes into an update other than any manufacturer releasing it.
