[Q] Messaging App - no notification sound - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running CM 10.2 (snapshot) on my Verizon LG G2. I'm having trouble getting notifications to make sound when the phone is locked/sleeping.
I noticed that in the Messaging app, the sound is stuck on "Silent" (see attached screenshot), and I'm not able to change it. When I tap on that option, it brings up a list menu with a default sound checked.
Any ideas? I've checked to make sure I'm not in Quiet Hours or have the volume off.

Figured it out. Turns out I had a Cyanogen profile "Night" enabled. :silly:

SMS Notifications don't Vibrate

For some reason, none of my SMS programs will vibrate even when I tell them to... SMS Pop-up, CHOMPSMS and the default messaging won't vibrate. The Missing Call app in the market will vibrate though so anyone have an idea as to what the problem is?
mine is the same way. don't understand it. seems to have started with the update
I have noticed with the newest (5.0.1 and 5.0.2) update from cyanogen whenever I flash either his ROM (or my theme which uses his ROM as a base) that I have to go into the messaging app and re-check the vibrate option.
Weird - this occurs on mine also on all messaging apps. I have rooted with the new update (not the newest one that isn't OTA yet). Any advice?
Anyone have any fixes? I noticed that notifications for other apps don't vibrate as well; Gmail and mobile package tracker specifically.
i found a solution by trolling other forums. install 'sound manager' from the market. open it, hit the menu soft key, and select the vibration settings option. when that opens, set it up however you want. tested it, and now i have vibration with sms again! sounds like it is some extra work, but whatever. it works
You are my hero! that fixed it!

it happened to me once .. I did a Clear Storage (aka Hard Reset) via fastboot (hold down volume + power) and it WORKED.

oooo crap that's true... oo wait, IT DOESN'T WORK...
no, it didn't work for me, and doesn't for several people. the sound manager app fixed it. trust me. try it out.
Use handcent lol, Vibrate works great for me lol.
Confirmed - issue occurs on ANY rom as soon as Handcent is installed. Sound board or wipe is only way to resolve.
sound manager app fixes. see my post above

[Q] Notification Issue

Hey I am new to these forums and the CM7 ROM for the shift. I put it on last night and I am having some trouble with the notification settings. On the stock sense ROM I was able to set my notifications to vibrate when I got one, mainly a text message. On the CM7 ROM for notifications I can only put it to "no noise" at all or a ringtone, like a beep. I would like to have a vibrate option but I cannot seem to find one. I appreciate all the help. Let me know if you need any more information, thanks.
try this: go into settings then sound setting, then under general tap on vibrate and set it to always..
or u can open up ur messages then hit menu and then settings the scroll down to notifications make sure notifications are checked then go to notification settings and tap vibrate and set it to always

That worked! Thank you, I didnt even think about going about it that way.
I had this problem too...
Go to Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>Interface>Notification Power Widget
Now check "Notification Power Widget" and then go into widget buttons.
Pick whatever tickles your fancy, but make sure toggle sound is on. You can also change the types of sound in the bottom "Sound Modes" Category and you caan change the order if you hit "Back" then "Widget Button Order".
Now reboot your device and when it turns back on, slide down the notification bar and at the top there should be a toggle which looks like Vibrate/Sound/Silent and that's how you change the sound!
I am also having this issue. i have no vibrate on any text messaging or even gmail .
I have the newest cm7, have tried turning vibrate on where ever i could. Wiped and re flashed but have the same problem .
phone will only vibrate on call and when i change from silent to vibrate.

Still no vibration on sms notification (HyperDroid CM7)

I originally posted this in the HyperDroid CM7 thread but I think it might be better here.
I have little problem with my install and I'm not even sure if it's related to that rom or CM7 or me... When I put my phone on vibrate, it will only vibrate when I get a call, it won't vibrate for SMS and notifications in general.
I have set Messaging > Settings > Notification Settings > Vibrate > Always
I also set Settings > Sounds > Vibrate > Always
Still no dice. Any ideas?
the Profiles maybe?... last time I tried, I ended up getting a notification sound from SetCPU notification on Screen On/Off and it was extremely annoying lol
I'll try again and report but feel free to chime in if you have a suggestion

Note that I have played with the default profile since that post and set every app group to Vibrate 'On' but it still doesn't work.
I keep looking online but the 2 answers that seem to fix the problem don't work for me (the Messaging app settings and the Profile settings)
I also remember reading that the vibrate pattern had to be set to a particular pattern to work but I can't find that info again.
Any ideas?

Edit:
Workaround: I grabbed Sound Manager v2 from the market > Vibrate settings and it works
I have the same issue... Have you resolved it??
Cheers
It works now that I used Sound Manager from the market.

[Q&A] Silent mode missing after 5.0 lollipop update on Galaxy S5? Now priority mode.

[Q&A] Silent mode missing after 5.0 lollipop update on Galaxy S5? Now priority mode.
Edit: solution below (4th post). But be cerful for disabling your alarms.
<rant>
I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. As a power user i need to factory reset my phone every half year to keep it running smooth. Since it was time for that anyway, i combined a fresh start with flashing the official polish 5.0 lollipop S5 rom (the updated one
PDA: G900FXXU1BNL7 ). It looks and works great. Ok, more blacks would work better with the amoled screen and it can easily take 2-3 seconds to open the task switcher, which is extra annoying if you have to also use it to jump to another browser tab. But i didn't find any major bugs and i generally love it. But one thing is driving me so crazy I'm considering going back to 4.x and staying there.
WHERE IS THE FRACKIN SILENT MODE?????
Sorry for the caps but that's kind of how i feel. Apparently it's not a bug but a feature. In vanilla, stock android on the nexus and moto g, you have to assign priority people or apps that can disturb you in priority mode. And then there's the "none" mode where your phone is completely silent. But those modes are not there in touchwiz. And people can't get their phones silent on other hardware too. Apparently Google will do a reintroduction of the feature in 5.1. But i don't know what that's worth. It will take ages for Samsung to incorporate and I'm starting to distrust google. With Google maps I'm still missing some features they cut out, such as measuring the direct distance between two points in the app. And they brought back writing to microsd cards with a special api, but i still can't edit word documents in any of the seven office apps I've tried (including several purchased ones).
</rant>
Anyway, I've tried everything i could think of to find silent mode:
* tap the vibrate/sound button in the quick toggles, it only switches between sound and vibrate, silent is gone
* long press power button: sound settings are removed from this menu
* go to settings - sounds and notifications: again there's only sound and vibrate mode. Silent mode is missing.
Please help me. The only workaround i found is to manually set all vibrates to really soft. But where is the silent mode? This is a feature that has been present in phones since before the wheel was invented. Did they really forget it? Or leave it out in purpose?
Silent mode is implemented in priority mode (stupid move by sammy)

Thank you for replying but where can i find this priority mode?
remove me again sorry
Solution
Ok, found it. You mute your phone with priority mode, but that's rather hidden...
WARNING: your alarms will not go off of you set priority mode to none.
open the all toggles: swipe down from the top of your screen with two fingers (or swipe down once and tap the icon in the upper right with three squares and two arrows)
here you see a toggle called all. Set it to none for silent mode
tap the pen icon to edit the layout, long press the all/none toggle and drag it up to put it in your directly accessible toggles
you can go to the settings for priority mode by long pressing the toggle. You can also find it under sound&notifications - interruptions (not called priority mode!!!)

This is not something implemented by Sammy, this is a Lollipop Google feature and sucks.
I had a widget for doing this and the App developer says that there is Nothing he can do
why they did this God Knows
what the heck is wrong with android developers nowadays? I hated this option.
At least silent mode will be back in 5.1
I am on EE and when I upgraded to Lollipop I lost this silient mode like everyone else did. My mate on Virgin also lost it but about a week later he received an update and he gained back this functionality.
There's now an XPOSED module for enabling native silent mode in lollipop
Sent from my SM-G900F
Silent mode is back in BOB7
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm very confused by this "priority mode" thing. I would really like it simple....I can put my phone on silent at night and have my alarm go off, and still receive ALL notifications while I'm sleeping, but they're silent. Then during the day while I'm at work, leave it on silent, but receive all notifications. I really really don't like that no matter what, silent mode mutes all notifications and alarms. It seems like I have to have it on vibrate in order to have the alarm work. I've googled this so many times and read so many articles, but it still doesn't make sense. Also I couldn't care less what order the notifications are.
who install and active XPOSED module in Rom 5 ?please help me....

Separate notification volume from ringtone?

This is the main thing that annoys me on this phone, there is no separation of the notification volume from the ringtone. I tried multiple apps on the play store, none of which worked correctly.
1. Set all notification sounds to none
2. Lots of apps still play sounds, wtf
3. Go into each app and turn sounds and vibrate off
4. Google apps still play sounds, wtf
5. Go into each google account, per app, and turn off sounds and vibrate off
6. Sounds still play from "system" events like plugging in the phone, unplugging it, turning mute off, etc
I would like no notification sounds ever anywhere anytime.
When you get any notification from this application that annoy you, pull down notification bar, hold long press on notification and chose more options, and you have many with options to:
Turn off on sound
Turn on off vibrate
Change sounds..
I cant remember what else have, I took a screenshot shot when I get first notification..
For every app you can set how ever you want

Thanks immensely. That was really helpful. Just continuing my phone setup and tried all kinds of settings but couldn't lose the notification sound. Now it's silent. Ahhhhhhh peace at last. :good:
