Separate notification volume from ringtone? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

This is the main thing that annoys me on this phone, there is no separation of the notification volume from the ringtone. I tried multiple apps on the play store, none of which worked correctly.
1. Set all notification sounds to none
2. Lots of apps still play sounds, wtf
3. Go into each app and turn sounds and vibrate off
4. Google apps still play sounds, wtf
5. Go into each google account, per app, and turn off sounds and vibrate off
6. Sounds still play from "system" events like plugging in the phone, unplugging it, turning mute off, etc
I would like no notification sounds ever anywhere anytime.

When you get any notification from this application that annoy you, pull down notification bar, hold long press on notification and chose more options, and you have many with options to:
Turn off on sound
Turn on off vibrate
Change sounds..
I cant remember what else have, I took a screenshot shot when I get first notification..
For every app you can set how ever you want

Thanks immensely. That was really helpful. Just continuing my phone setup and tried all kinds of settings but couldn't lose the notification sound. Now it's silent. Ahhhhhhh peace at last. :good:

A way to have alarm sound when on silent/vibrate?

Maybe there is a way to do this, but I'm not aware - does anyone know of a way to enable alarm even when teh phoen is on vibrate or on silent? (this came to me because I set the phone to silent and forgot to turn I was late for work today)
enAlarmPPC
When you mean an application for alarms, then you should really take a look at enAlarmPPC. You can simply force a volume, and it will play sound even if in "vibrate" or "mute".
awesome... I think that's exactly what I need. Thanks
i use vibrate mode all the time, but don't like the fact that it silences your phone. But this is what i have found:
Instead of going into vibrate mode through comm manager or through a "profile" (like from the HTC Touch Today plugin), go to settings and then select Sounds and Notifications. Select Notification tab, and from the drop down menu select Phone: Incoming call and select vibrate. When you do this, your phone vibrate when there is an incoming call but is not silenced for other functions of the phone like alarms, music, etc.
Disadvantage is that it is not 1 simple step, so if you back and forth between ring and vibrate it is not ideal, but if you set it on vibrate all the time like me, it is ideal.

You could probably Mortscript it...
yea, the thing is I always change to vibrate when I'm at work/quiet areas and I'd liek to have a simple profile change button that changes it to a vibrate + ringer.

Give PhoneAlarm a try! Then you can create profiles.
I agree, PhonaAlarm solves it all!!

[Q] Notification Issue

Hey I am new to these forums and the CM7 ROM for the shift. I put it on last night and I am having some trouble with the notification settings. On the stock sense ROM I was able to set my notifications to vibrate when I got one, mainly a text message. On the CM7 ROM for notifications I can only put it to "no noise" at all or a ringtone, like a beep. I would like to have a vibrate option but I cannot seem to find one. I appreciate all the help. Let me know if you need any more information, thanks.
try this: go into settings then sound setting, then under general tap on vibrate and set it to always..
or u can open up ur messages then hit menu and then settings the scroll down to notifications make sure notifications are checked then go to notification settings and tap vibrate and set it to always

That worked! Thank you, I didnt even think about going about it that way.
I had this problem too...
Go to Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>Interface>Notification Power Widget
Now check "Notification Power Widget" and then go into widget buttons.
Pick whatever tickles your fancy, but make sure toggle sound is on. You can also change the types of sound in the bottom "Sound Modes" Category and you caan change the order if you hit "Back" then "Widget Button Order".
Now reboot your device and when it turns back on, slide down the notification bar and at the top there should be a toggle which looks like Vibrate/Sound/Silent and that's how you change the sound!
I am also having this issue. i have no vibrate on any text messaging or even gmail .
I have the newest cm7, have tried turning vibrate on where ever i could. Wiped and re flashed but have the same problem .
phone will only vibrate on call and when i change from silent to vibrate.

Silent mode on Nexus 6 workaround

Hi there!
I know there are a few threads about it, BUT I thought as no one obviously knows about the workaround for putting the Nexus 6 in silent mode without the need of an app, I decided to make a seperate thread. It's working on Stock ROM, you don't have to be rooted.
This is how it works:
- Put the phone all the way down to vibrate with the volume down key
- Then tap once on the volume up key so you are on - lets call it "volume step one"
- Now reboot your phone
Congrats, silent mode is back! Unfortunately, you have to do it all over again, if you change the volume once...
Regards

Wait, am I missing something here?
Why not hit the volume button then select "none" from the options of "none, priority, all"?
Enters silent mode pretty easily for me!

I think what people liked about silent mode was it allowed Alarms through. "None" means no sounds or alarms. Priority mode with just Alarms set as priority isn't a workaround because some Apps can still emit sounds. The main problem with this new notification system aside from the fact that it eliminated a couple of real world use case scenarios is it is just flat out not intuitive.

I use Tasker, set media and ringtone to 0 alarms stay at 4, start at 7:00 workdays, end at 4:30 (silent mode except alarms) then volumes return to normal. Works like a charm, this way I don't have to remember to change the volumes when I get to work, or turn them up when I go home....

I use Tasker a lot too, and for many things. And I can't remember now, but what about vibration? I mean in "real" silent mode, vibration is off. If you only set media and ringtone to 0, does your phone still vibrate? I mean in Lollipop you can't even turn vibration off, right?
So my phone is on silent without vibration, so that only my G Watch R vibrates on calls and notifications, with alarms going off on the phone as usual...

That's correct, there currently is no silent, I did read that they were doing something with the sound settings in 5.1 but not exactly sure what that will look like. I am pretty sure you could get silent back some how if you were to root the phone but I am not ready to go there yet. Other than using a little battery I don't mind the vibration, as is I can get 2 days on a charge without too much effort.

Specifically for apps, you have to flag them as priority for their notifications to go through. Otherwise, in Sounds & Notifications settings you can specify "Priority Interruptions" which you can select system Events and reminders (alarms), Calls and Messages you want to go through.
I use it for meetings and class... so far it has yet to allow a notification that I haven't set to priority.

Still they all vibrate, right?
If your turn on priority mode, no apps will push notifications to you, unless you prioritize them.
None disabled everything.

Nope, no notifications even vibrate lol. Priority mode means, no notifications will wake the device or vibrate unless you prioritize them.

What the other poster probably meant is that apps can bypass Priority mode. This has been thoroughly documented, and according to Google it's "working as intended". Some apps have already fixed it, like Whatsapp, and very recently, FB messenger, but other big ones like Viber and Skype are yet to do it. It's a big nuisance that one has to depend on app developers to conform in order for such an important OS function to work correctly.

You can get the app Nights Keeper, it will do the old silent mode and more. The free version should be enough for simple silent mode, but the premium is only a couple bucks. The actionable notification and the widget are awesome. No root required.

Anyone having notification tone issues?

I haven't added or changed any apps recently. But today, my phone has started sounding the default notification tone about every 3 minutes or so, any time I have a notification icon on my phone. Sometimes even when there's no icon displayed. The only way I've been able to get it to stop is to turn off ALL notifications in ALL apps.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before, or have any idea what I might look at?
Thanks.

You can try to silent the sound settings/sound/silent
um....why not restart .-. could just be a glitch what are your installed apps if u dont mind me asking.....
I've restarted multiple times. I'm not exactly new at this. Restarting did nothing. As I said, the only way to stop it is to turn off all notifications.
However, after trying lots of things, I used the "Reset settings" option in the Backup and Restore menu. That seems to have resolved it. I still have no idea what triggered it, as I haven't change any settings in weeks.

Yeah, that might have worked, but I didn't want to silence all notifications, just the meaningless, repeated sound that didn't appear to be tied to anything specific.

Constant notification tone when up/downloading

Recently started using the 8pro, first time with a OnePlus so just working my way around its peculiarities.
One thing I've noticed which is incredibly annoying is that when uploading or downloading anything at all, I get a constant repeating notification tone until it is complete.
This happens when sending vids on WhatsApp and downloading files on Google so it doesn't seem to be one particular app responsible.
Anybody else experiencing this and know how to fix it?
I don't really want to individually switch notifications off for WhatsApp everytime I want to up/download something, etc.
I also have this issue, also everytime I use Whatsapp on my computer, the phone beeps.
Everytime a notification refresh, ding.
It's very annoying and only thing I found is to mute the phone .
1. Longpress the downloading notification.
2. Click the gear in the top right.
3. Click on downloads.
4. Click advanced.
5. Click sound.
6. Change sound to "none".
