I've posted this on GENERAL but I think it makes more sense here.
I have a second BlueAngel which I'm selling:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250190007066
I also have spare parts, PM me for more info.
Thanks!
Wow, how did you manage to put a camera on SX66?
Wouldn't mind to put one on mine too.
simple. order a camera for 9090, open teh pda, plug the camera in teh place, and order one dirrefent back cover, with the camera hole for the lens.

Really? It's that easy? No soldering? So what about exchanging it for that 1.3 Megapixel model? I'd even consider buying a second BA just to try it ...
(I remember there was a thread about that here a few months ago ... I just tried to search for it but the forum's search function seems to be broken)
But probably, when you say "plug it in place", you are talking about a daugthercard module that is BA-specific?
Typing 'qtek 9090 camera' yields no result on ebay.
Is there some other camera either better or more powerful but compatible camera available?
I tried the 1.3mp but the connectors don't match.
So... anyone interested on the BA I'm selling?

I am looking for a motherboard or an entire unit for parts, to include a usable motherboard. Let me know what you want and if we can use paypal.
Thanks,
[email protected]
Camera, Camera, whos got the Camera?
I have several Camera units for the SX-66 available. Each comes with the torx driver required, the board standoff and the camera unit. Let me know if your interested. The sale would need to be done through paypal.

I would be interested if the price is right. Do you also have the back case cover with the hole in it for the lens? Also, how do I know that my SX66 is compatible with this camera? I have no problems opening it up to check part #'s, but I don't want to buy if it can't connect.
Adding Camera modules to SX66
I've done this mod to two units with parts from the cheaper CDMA Blue Angels.
On one rebuild, I used the back plate from the CDMA phone as it had the camera lens hole, and just had to cut out an opening for the sim card. I didn't really bother making the cut very pretty, as you can't see the mod when the battery is in place.
On the second one, I drilled a 1/8th inch hole the back of the original SX66 cover, Location for the hole being the only tricky part.
Added bonus to this second aproach,, twice I have taken it to shows where cameras were strickly prohibited, and security personal inspected my phone, and let me into the venues.
Camera modules are a snap to install, but be aware the camera's flash module is not supported on the SX66 motherboard (someone correct me if I am wrong)
When shopping or scrounging for parts, don't overlook the the poor, retarded CDMA's. They just want to be loved, too.
It's Camera time!
Moti; all,
These units are compatable with, and designed to fit the connector and ribbon layout for, the Siemans SX66 model and the below listed as well.
Dopod 700
Verizon XV6600
O2 Xda IIs
Qtek 9090
T-Mobile MDA III
i-Mate PDA2k
Orange SPV M2000
Sprint PPC-6601 PPC-6600
If you are replaceing a camera on one of those listed above remember that these units are the camera only and have no flash module. For the SX66 that is what you want as the board makes no provision for flash at all.
I do have some flash capable units from the PPC6600 available for anyone who needs those, let me know.
The eBay item for these is 170218372271. There are 3 available on that item, but if you needed more we can work that out off auction. Paypal is a must though, sorry. The item comes with general instructions, a torx, and the template for the camera hole placement.
I also have complete upgraded SX66 units available (170216839140), I usually post only one at a time on eBay as they sell pretty well here at home!
Moti, as far as finding the elusive GSM prepped rear cover with camera hole, I gave up on that early in the SX66 camera upgrade project. It is much simpler for me to create the camera hole myself using a heated philips driver of the right diameter for the lens exposure.
I developed a template that allows me to tape it on and make the starter hole, then run the heated driver through, making a perfect opening. A picture of the result is shown in the eBay item 170216839140, and below, which shows how well this method works and looks.

I like very much the look of Warhawk, at&t version of D2... I haven't find that housing on internet. Do you know anything about it?
You'll probably have to wait a couple of months after the release of the device to see housings appearing on ebay
Can I ask why are you looking for the housing ? - according to pdadb, topaz and warhawk are not the same, not in dimensions and not in harware - so it would seem that topaz hardware won't fit in warhawk's housing.

What makes you think the hardware isn't the same...a look down the specs suggests that aside from a few minor points like leaving out the FM radio receiver and a higher capacity battery the hardware is identical. The dimension differences are small enough to just be due to the different housing I would have thought - seems a fair chance the two housings would be interchangeable?
I saw that there are two major differences, one the camera, which is 3.2MP (but that is not a problem for the housing), second the upper led near the speaker - our Topaz has two and the Warhawk has only one - that might be a problem for the housing, not the led itself, but the fact that this area is different.
I sure hope you can still do switch, the Warhawk looks nicer.
Hi,
Not had alot of luck with this this thing!.

Screen is an unfortunate description. Most people use this to describe the exterior Gorilla glass. But it is sometimes used to refer to the AMOLED LCD or digitizer as well or even all three together as a module. If you are using screen in the common parlance, yes. If you really meant the LCD, then no.

Why wouldn't it fit? Display assembly should have the same measures even if they are sourced from different providers.

The differences are not necessarily physical. They may be electrical differences. Why do that? Ask Samsung, but it could be cost control - leaving out parts not used by a specific carrier or country. Or it might be an effort to prevent using a lower priced grey market part in countries where they price a variant part higher.
Whatever the reason Samsung did the same thing for the S3 /S4. For example there are at least three physical S3 layouts. Sprint, the remainder of the NA modules and the international version. The Sprint version is electrically, but not physically interchangeable with the other NA modules. And neither is electrically compatible with the international variants. I have direct experience with this on the S3. I'm told by Samsung parts that the same situation exists for the S5 and have little reason to doubt that this is the case as it is what they have done in the past.
So I ended up buying a 2nd hand Xperia Z with defect motherboard, screen was fine so I changed over the hardware from my cracked screen phone to the new one. Noticed that the back camera part looked different from the 2 phones. So was wondering if anyone know if there is 2 different cameras in Xperia Z? And if so which is the better one
One looked like this: http://img.tvc-mall.com/uploads/details/SONO-C6603-04-1.jpg
The other one like this: http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server5...camera_01__64883.1380359600.1024.1024.jpg?c=2

I'm not sure but at least they will be both 13MP.
If the connector is the same you can try, it should be compatible both.
To know which is the better one, I would bet, the one with the latest revision stamp on the lower end of the phone.
For example mine says "made in China C6603 35576205-555029-3 13W11 AAC"
"13W11" is the revision stamp where "13" stands for year 2013 and "W11" stands for week 11.
So mine is from week 11 2013.
You could compare both phones and put the camera lens from latest revision.
I think Sony would only try to improve each revision and don't put a less lens in newer model.
Good luck!
The second one looks basically the same, its just missing the padding around the assembly and has a different colour flex...? OEM's can change in between production batches, so materials and dyes also change, but they'd be functionally identical.
With that said, my device is 14W07 and mine is definitely like the first one. So perhaps that is a "revision" - whether thats good or bad (cost cutting?) I can not say. Try both [emoji14]

Yea the first one got like a hexagon shape around while the second one got some other weird shape. The first one hexagon shape was sitting in my original phone made 13W10 while the other one was in a phone made 13W34. Strange if your phone was made early 2014 it looks like they went back to the first design. Interesting.
Ah right I didn't even notice the hexagon bit.
Yes that is strange. They are probably identical, just different factories or something.

Heya,
I was going to say in Zombie thread that it seems to actually have have, somehow, lost it's effect. I get throttling now at about ~50 seconds of a StabilityTest run, just like before I even did the heatsink mod. I don't know how it changed, but it was a waste of time in the end lol....

I've edited the whole post to simplify it:
Dropped nine-day-old Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE551KL). My heart shattered, as did the display.
Asus Canada wants $124 to repair it (Canadian dollars; estimate provided by telephone representative), and the only location to repair it is 3388 km (2105 mi) away and apparently takes walk-ins only, but I'm quite comfortable repairing it myself if the repair process is similar in ease to the Zenfone 2 walkthrough.
Searching for ZE551KL LCD modules returns only two or three matches. Since I can't post links because I'm too new at xda, I'll just post the search terms: "90AZ00T1-R20010"* and "90AZ00T1-R20020"* (I don't know what the difference is, but they're both unavailable anyway), as well as "B90AZ00T1-R20010" (which I would need to e-mail about availability, compatibility, and pricing). (Note the leading B on the Czech website part number, which makes searching for the module a bit difficult, since searching for either of the part numbers only ends up returning the original pages).
Update: I heard back from AsusParts.eu (where I found the asterisked parts above), and they said that they can't get the parts and that I'd need to get it serviced through Asus. The phone was only released in November, though, so I'm wondering if part availability will change (not just with them, but in terms of the lack of availability anywhere online).
The rest of the search results are for:
ZD551KL (Zenfone Selfie), which has essentially identical components and size, but the front display has a larger, better, centred 13 MP camera (compared to the ZE551KL smaller, offset 5 MP camera), but specifically mentions "ZD551KL ZE551ML" along the ribbon cable, and the AliExpress sellers say that it's compatible with both, while the eBay sellers only mention ZD551KL.
ZE551ML, which has different internal components, but the display and device dimensions appear to be identical.
If the ZD551KL display also supposedly works for the ZE551KL but the cameras are markedly different, it appears that I'd have to replace the camera module, too, and that's when I become particularly concerned about compatibility (both physical and firmware). Does anyone know if it actually would work?
The ZE551ML screen looks identical, but I'm not sure if it actually is. Does anyone know about this?
Any thoughts on other places to try finding the actual specific display?
I contacted Asus, and (no surprise) they won't give me any part-related information. "Send the phone in" is all that I'm told.
Thank you very much!
Well the smaller resolution might cause problems.

An authentic ZD551KL screen should have the same resolution as the ZE551KL. It's the size of the part, ribbon cable compatibility, and camera that I'm particularly worried about.
Can you buy it from the repair center or ASUS?

Unfortunately not. I figured there was nothing to lose trying to call them and live chat them requesting anything of the sort (part information, available to purchase, etc), but they would give me no information whatsoever and kept referring me back to opening a service ticket for repair. Their lips are sealed; they insist on doing it themselves.

Well you will need to see if the camera is attached to the same board and if you can get a different front plate so that the screen will fit on the different phone. The ribbon cable itself should be fine. Most parts should be rather modular. The only concern would be the front bezel.
Silly question but I just bought the phone on Amazon 32Gb and 3Gb RAM for $199. One of the selling point for me was the Corning Gorilla Glass 4, Its supposed to be pretty durable, so how did yours crack? And have you been able to find a replacement screen you can diy?

Mine was on a desk in a communal laboratory office, attached to a long charging cord. Someone asked where something was, so rather than describe its location, I got up to show her where it is. The long cord was tangled in my chair wheels, so when I backed my chair up, it pulled the phone off of the desk, making it land face down onto a slightly gritty laminate tile floor.
I found a screen from a place in Germany. They say that they get their parts directly from Asus. Both of those statements should make you expect that it won't be cheap, and indeed it is not: €80. That's within a few dollars of what Asus Canada was wanting to charge me.
I would like to clear one thing to you dear,
ZE551KL & ZD551KL have different screens.
ZE551KL has 401PPI but ZD551KL have 403PPI.
my working twrp for ZE551KL does not work with ZD551KL due to this issue ( same twrp with full working touch for ze551kl does not work with zd551kl touch)
decide yourself.
for confirmation you may read my twrp 2.8.6.0/2.8.7.0 thread.

Do you have any thoughts as to why the Selfie LCD (even direct from Asus) has "ZD551KL/ZE551KL" written on it, if that's the case? Just curious.
In the same boat
I dropped mine on New Year's eve
I searched on Aliexpress (tinyurlDOTcom/njtjav2) and found a replacement digitizer for around $35 (free shipping) which is not that expensive.
I'm from Europe btw.
Tomorrow I plan to go to my local Asus representative to see if they can replace it for around the same price, if not Aliexpress it is.

Just be really careful. All of the results that were in your link are screens for the Selfie (look at the top of the screen, and see how it differs from the Zenfone 2 Laser ZE551KL). The speaker and camera holes are in completely different spots.

Thanks for this.
I went to the official Asus representative today and they offered original replacement screen for around €50 with warranty which is a no brainer for me.
I'll wait about a month which would have been the same if I went the Aliexpress route (if they had a screen for my model that is).
To be honest I was surprised that it was that cheap. I guess competition is a good thing

Did you buy the phone using a credit card?
Many credit cards have accidental damage insurance for the first 90 days of purchase.
Usually you have to file a claim and get the work approved so it takes time, but they pay for it once you do all the paperwork stuff.
I checked Aliexpress today and found something that appears to be the right one, at least on the surface: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Orig...tizer-Assembly-Free-Shipping/32620432352.html I still need to call Asus to find out what it will cost in USD for me to get them to fix it.

I want you to know how nearly-completely-psychotically thankful I am for your post. I called by bank earlier to ask about what kind of purchase protection I had, and the answer was disappointing, but after you made your post, I looked up information for my bank, and it suggested that I should indeed have 90 days of accidental damage insurance.
I called them, filled out the form, and received the cheque a few days ago. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
